Corwin announces NRA endorsement

By Howard B. Owens

Press Release:

WILLIAMSVILLE – Jane Corwin, successful businesswoman and candidate for New York’s 26th Congressional District, announced the support of the National Rifle Association (NRA) today. The endorsement and "A" rating is representative of Corwin’s strong stance on protecting the Second Amendment. Corwin is a member of both the NRA and SCOPE, another advocacy organization committed to upholding the Second Amendment.

“I'm proud to be a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and I am grateful for the support shown by the NRA,” Corwin said. “As a member of the Assembly I voted against 14 pieces of legislation designed to restrict Second Amendment rights, and have met with countless fellow members of the organization to discuss protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen. I have a firm understanding of the issues facing the Second Amendment community and will be a strong voice in Congress for one’s constitutional right to bear arms.”

Corwin was also endorsed by the national organization during her past Assembly campaigns and has been a proven leader on the issue during her time as an elected official.

If you dont get out there and vote for her your letting your gun rights erode away! Schumer and his suck up Gillibrand would love to see an unarmed NY State.Wake up NRA members wake up Scope members vote where its gonna count.I remember when gillibrand ran and she claimed she was mrs second amendment and then as soon as she took office might as well have been sleeping with Schumer. Right now as Im writing this there isnt anyone to represent gun owners in congress for NY State or in the senate.Believe me if you write or call Senators Schumer or Gillibrand its falling on deaf ears. We need someone that will represent us.We the little but mighty people of the 26TH District. We need Jane Corwin and Im proud I voted for her!

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who earned a 100 percent rating from the NRA when she was representing the largely rural 20th Congressional District, has become a vocal proponent of late for much-needed laws designed to crack down on illegal gun trafficking.

She fought for stricter controls at gun shows to crack down on illegal gun trafficking.

I've been to many gun shows; we had tables at them for many years. I am considered a liberal Democrat (and I'm on the city and county committees, as John is quick to point out).

Protecting the right to bear arms does not include protecting dealers who skirt reasonable laws designed to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands, or preventing law enforcers from investigating patterns of gun trafficking.

Laws that help law enforcement protect citizens need the support of all lawmakers -- including Senator Gillibrand's.

Do you, Joseph, approve of illegal gun trafficking?
Can you defend unlicensed dealers who are responsible for placing illegal guns in the hands of criminals?

Bea,
Where do you get this "illegal" gun trafficking? Tell me who has a bill supporting it? Which bill or politician supports skirting the law?

Unlicensed dealers? Bea, there called criminals and there are laws on the books against that already.

Bills in the Assembly to restrict ownership have been listed on this site before and not even one of them supported illegal trafficking. But I look forward to you telling us which bills or politicians you think do.

Summary
12/11/2009--Introduced.
Gun Trafficking Prevention Act of 2009 - Amends the federal criminal code to impose a fine and/or 20-year prison term on any person who: (1) knowingly provides or receives from another person two or more firearms if such person knows or has reasonable cause to believe that such transfer would violate a federal, state, or local law punishable by a prison term of more than one year (i.e., a felony); (2) makes materially false statements to a licensed firearm importer, dealer, or manufacturer relating to the purchase, receipt, or acquisition of two or more firearms; or (3) directs, promotes, or facilitates such illegal activity. Increases penalties on licensed firearms importers, dealers, or manufacturers who knowingly violate firearms restrictions under the federal criminal code, including recordkeeping requirements. Expands the authority of the Attorney General to revoke or suspend the license of a firearms dealer for failure to have secure gun storage or safety devices, for transporting armor piercing ammunition, or for violating other federal prohibitions on gun trafficking. Requires the Attorney General to identify licensed firearms dealers who have a heightened risk of firearms being diverted to criminal use. Requires the Comptroller General to study and report to Congress on firearms that are lost or stolen during commercial shipping. Authorizes the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to hire additional personnel to enable inspections of gun dealers on a three-year cycle and requires the Director to hire additional investigators and special agents to address trafficking in firearms.

Bea,
You were asked for examples of any bill that would weaken the above, and or name a legislator (in the above case, a federal one) who submitted a bill to weaken it.

I know lots of people who wish it was easier to buy a gun in New York, but never met one who wanted it easier to buy an illegal one from an illegal dealer, who was not in Attica. Do you?

I try see both sides and have voted for both parties. The problem is that they're all crooks! Sooner or later all politicians do something to piss people off.
I can't believe how people get sucked in to all of the Campaign Promises(lies).

At gun shows, you do not have to be a licensed dealer to sell or buy a gun (long gun). This bill was to close that loophole.
An inconvenience? Yes, for law abiding citizens who may casually dabble at gun shows.
Can I see the NRA point of view? Yes, for the above reason.
Do I understand that gun shows provide the perfect venue to obtain firearms without going through the rigors of an investigation? Yes.

Bea,
Illegal gun dealers are not usually found at gun shows. But you asked if Jeff approved of illegal gun trafficking. How does this stop illegal sales?

I can also sell a long gun I own to you at a garage sale. Are you suggesting that anyone who owns a shotgun and wants to sell it now needs to be licensed by the government?

Are you suggesting that if I want a long gun to go hunting, I have to pass an investigation?

Dear Bea, Above you asked me do I approve of illegal gun trafficking? My reply NO! But obviousley the BATFE does just type in the words project gun runner and you will find alot of information about how the same BATFE that says Don't Lie for the other guy in reference to straw purchases. Allowed over 3,000 military grade weapons over the Mexican border as cheese on a mouse trap to catch the bigger mouse but it backfired and a U.S. Border Patrol Agent was killed with our governments own hardware! Perhaps you werent aware of that.Knowing the truth is half of the battle. Your 2nd question was can I defend unlicensed dealers whom are responsible for placing illegal guns in the hands of criminals. My heartfelt answer is NO!I am a Federally Licensed Collector with a C&R FFL.I have been to alot of gun shows down south and out west where the gun laws are loose!I have seen people there walk out with hand guns that I wouldnt sell a BB gun too.But I have never seen this at any gun shows in NY state not even in the southern tiere.Pistol Permits are mandatory for pistol sales in NY unless they are antique or black powder and they cant be sold with the ammo and if you want to shoot a black powder revolver at the range or single shot .40+caliber black powder pistol for deer hunting you need to have it on your permit in NY state. As for unlicensed dealers selling long guns.If a person has some guns that were left by a deceased family member and pays for a table at a gun show to sell them as long as they are long guns and not something concealable like handguns I personally dont see anything wrong with that. However if this person is unlicensed and showing up" every year "with a pick up load of guns including handguns for sale and claims all of these guns were left to him and starts selling them to any looney that says hes over 21 and is selling pistols to non permit holders at all! He should be arrested and get the maximum time! If your gonna be dealing in firearms as a buisness you better be Licensed as such. I despise the illegal elements that have taken hold in our society including gang bangers from Rochester and Buffalo bringing their drugs and gun violence to urban NY thats one reason I Legally own a 12 gauge shotgun with buckshot.

Joseph, for the most part, we are on the same page. I too have seen purchases that I could only shake my head and wonder how important the dollar was in comparison to the person walking off with a gun that might be used for illegal purposes.

This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police will be more effective, and the world will follow our lead into the future!

The Hitler reference, at last! Congratulations Ricky!

Hitler built roads. We build roads...draw your own conclusions.

By the way, I believe that Hitler quote is bogus. Check it out.
