I cant believe there are this many people who haven’t heard of him I read Grendel and the Sunlight Dialogues and they were great reads and to know he was one of Genesee county's own is a feather in our cap.
109 never read anything by John Gardner and 128 never heard of him?
I read The Sunlight Dialogues and Grendel. He is an acquired reading taste, to be sure. He was home grown and quite a colorful character.
Gardner was killed in a motorcycle accident about 2 mi from his home in Susquehanna County on Tuesday, September 14, 1982. State Police said that at about 2:30 PM, Gardner completed a curve on Route 92 about 3 mi north of Oakland, when he lost control of his 1979 Harley-Davidson and went into the dirt shoulder, and then was thrown from the motorcycle. crash came days before he was to marry Susan Thornton. Gardner is buried next to his brother Gilbert in Batavia's Grandview Cemetery.
Here's a better suggestion:
Who does better in-depth interviews of authors?
A. Dick Cavett
B. Charlie Rose
C. Brian Lamb
D. I never heard of those 3 guys, but Katie Couric sucks 'cause she made fun of Sarah Palin.
I just ordered a new copy of The Sunlight Dialogues, I got a third of the way through the first time and two thirds the second time, lately I have a habit of finishing books. I just finished one today and another one less than a week ago. It cuts into my online time wasting, but what the hell. I have read, in their entirety, Nickel Mountain '73, October Light '76 and Mickelsonn's Ghosts '82, but not in that order. I liked Mickelson's Ghosts best although I didn't realize until today that it was his last book. It's 590 pages long and only twenty or thirty are boring. I loved it and I'll read it again. Nickel Mountian would make a great movie, it sure plays great in my mind. I tried Grendel and read it until I realized I wasn't interested enough in that type of literature. I may have read Resurrection '66, I'm almost sure, but I'll probably read it again to see what I missed the first time. Retirement is bliss.

With all due respect, why not read it before passing judgement.
Many authors, who passed 20+ years ago, are still read.
No one is angry that YOU don't know him (if, in fact, you were one of the 197). Not being from this area, no one would expect you to have any pride in a local author.
Yes because I take no pride in any part of the city in which I live....
I won't read it simply because it doesn't interest me, not to mention the lack of time I have to read the books that do interest me.. Thankfully I can use my phone to read those in the tiny bits of spare time I do have.

For those who never heard of John Gardner, here's a hint: he was never on American Idol, Survivor or Hollywood Squares.

I would have to go with Charlie Rose, although Tavis Smiley is pretty good too.

Tons of people have written about Grendel, what makes his take better?
