Cache of weapons reportedly found in home of Alabama man

By Howard B. Owens

A dozen weapons, including one that was altered in an allegedly illegal manner, were recovered from an Alabama residence in an early morning raid by local law enforcement.

A silencer and large capacity magazine designed to fit the altered gun were also allegedly found at the residence of Christopher Jon Bombard, 31, of 7133 Maple St. Road.

Bombard was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, 2nd, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, 3rd.

The other weapons are being sent to the Monroe County Public Safety Lab for further examination.

Additional charges may be filed.

The 7:15 a.m. raid was carried out the Local Drug Enforcement Task Force, which also recovered $300 cash.

Bombard was jailed on $100,000 bail.

Also participating in the investigation and raid were the District Attorney's Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Genesee County Office of Emergency Management and Mercy EMS.

Just because the local drug task force conducted the investigation doesn't mean they were looking for drugs, per se.

Right now, the only information available is what was in the press release. Hopefully, we can learn a little more today about what this is about.

$300 can be evidence of something. At this point, we don't know.

So the raid was conducted for drugs?? Or what?? Where were the drugs? It's not illegal to own $300......

-They were actually searching for weapons of mass destruction...but it was just an excuse to get in his house.

The task force was displaying its ability to multi task.
Nothing wrong with removing illegal weapons from the streets, if that is in fact the case.

As far as I am concerned all drugs should be legal as well so yes.

But here's my point. Its illegal to kill people, so why do we need separate laws to manage weapons? If using it in a manner that is dangerous to others is already legal, then we are just stopping people who follow the law from having something they want. People who are going to kill people aren't going to stop just there, they are going to get what they want by any means necessary.

I don't want to go to work and there are road blocks in my way. I still go, imagine if I wanted to do something.

And it only prevents people who want to commit murder one, when its a crime of emotional response, they don't care what weapon is around.

I still see what you're saying, but I don't think it's reasonable to think that these laws haven't saved any lives.

In the case where someone is determined to murder another, nothing is going to stop them, but easy access to modified weapons (or weapons in general) makes violence more convenient for a would-be criminal.

Peter, I'm not against law abiding citizens possesing firearms, but when you start modifying weapons, and ignoring the specifications of the weapons intended limitations, or uses, innocent people could be seriously injured or killed by simply discharging the weapon, because it was modified for use outside the parameters of the manufacturer's intended specifications, and safe use of said firearms.

And when they are harmed, that is when you should be held liable, not for the modification themselves. If you have taken the time to learn what you can do safely then why can't you use it?

Peter,
Modifying a gun is at times illegal, like cutting the barrel of a shotgun. You know it's illegal; do it, and you take your chances with the law.

I also don't see the need for a silencer.

When was the last time someone was shot with an illegally modified weapon in Geneses county? These modification are nothing more than toys to make scared boys feel tough as they hide in their homes. I'm not sure they should be illegal but they are truly not needed.

John I'm not arguing that the modifications are illegal, I am saying they shouldn't be.

Maybe you hate wearing ear plugs, that good enough reason for me to want a silencer.

You can't accept that people want something just to want it can you? I want a pair of brass knuckles and butterfly knife because they are cool not because I want to hurt people. Its the same reason I want foul balls and hockey pucks that go over the glass. Owning such things should never be illegal.
