A gas dryer is reportedly on fire at 1325 Broadway, Darien Center.
There is no structure fire at this time.
Darien Fire and Alexander Fire have been dispatched.
UPDATE 4:42 p.m.: It is now a structure fire. Corfu is also responding. Flames reported on the outside of the building.
UPDATE 4:48 p.m.: Broadway and Route 77 are being shut down. Batavia's Fast team is being dispatched.
UPDATE 6:18 p.m.: Firefighters continue to battle hotspots inside the house. The amount of smoking billowing from out of the attic has subsided substantially, but there's clearly still fire burning in the interior. In addition to Darien, Corfu and Alexander, companies from Alexander, Alden and Bennington are on scene. Route 5 remains closed, though 77 is open.
UPDATE 8:39 p.m.: All units back in service.
UPDATE: More pictures after the jump.

Joe as well as myself were probably wondering the relevance of a drum note definition on a story relating to a fire.
Cute comments... However, you
Cute comments... However, you all forgot to recognize and praise all of the volunteer firefighters who responded to this emergency. Each and every one of these people take time out of their personal lives to help people in our communities in times of need. Take a few minutes to look at these pictures and let it sink in that not one person is paid for what they have done. Thank you Howard for such great coverage.

well said michael, however we also need to remember that a family lost their house... maybe temporarily maybe more, but either way they dont get to go home tonight.

Mike, Yes, thank you for clarifying.
Mr. Tost, Cute Comments? Those "Cute Comments" came long before Howard posted the pics and the outcome of the fire. Do not question MY recognition and praise for the Volunteer firefighters and what they do. I spent several years as a highly active volunteer firefighter.
And YES Howard, Great
And YES Howard, Great coverage... As Always.
Not to take anything away
Not to take anything away from our City firefighters, who are great people and as dedicated and unselfish as they come, but volunteers are amazing.
When you see these pictures, this is only the tip of the iceberg.
It's the volunteers who respond when your grandmother has fallen and can't get back up, and when you're in a fender-bender, they make sure the traffic flows smoothly and there's no other problems with your vehicle, and when your CO detector goes off for no reason, or you burn some popcorn -- they respond. Spring, summer, fall and winter, no matter what the call to duty, these men and women stop what they're doing -- playing with their kids, working to bring home the bacon, taking care of customers in their own shop or just getting some much needed rest -- and they respond.
Fires like this are hard, dirty, hot and stressful, but it's only the most visible part of what they do.
I'm grateful that they let me get close enough to get the pictures I do get.
Oh my GOD so sorry to hear
