Sorry, can't choose a favorite. The Beatles were definitely the sum of their parts. They came along when I was about 5 and I loved them for their goofiness and still do. Loved Yellow Submarine both song and movie. After i became a teenager and they were broken up, I started really paying attention to their music, I knew the words and a couple of chords, but had no clue to what it was all about. I found that a lot of their music was about growing up; physically, spiritually and mentally and a lot was just goofing around which was my first impression as a child. I like John's unconventionalism and irreverence for "the norm", I like Paul's easy-going, pot smoking, un pretentiousness and goofy love for sappy love songs, I like George's humanity and quest for God, and who doesn't like Ringo for being Ringo. They weren't perfect or gods or anything, just 4 creative, talented guys who came along at the right time. Thanks, Howard for making me think about them again, the MP3 player will get a work out today.
Right On Dave! I wasn't even a thought when The Beatles were together and broke up, but my mother loved them, so I got intorduced to their music when I was rather young. As a musician, each one is great in their own way. John was a brilliant lyracists who could make you question just about everything and Paul could make any song passionate and rich. George was always the laid back, quiet one, but when he played, you could feel it in your bones. AND Ringo...well how can you not love Ringo!!! I watched a VH1 Special on Ringo that was taped awhile back and the man is a trip!

Here is why:
Ringo was the FIRST one to put his drums up on a riser...
Ringo plays basicly ONE drum solo in the whole Beatles catalogue. It is on Abbey Road in a song called "The End". You can set a metronome to his solo and it will read 126 bpm (if I remember correctly). HE played it with NO metronome!
Ringo never plays the same fill in the same song twice!
Ringo sang "I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends", "Yellow Submarine" among others!
I am SO GLAD that Rock Band worked with the Beatles and came out with the Beatles version of the game. The young kids NEED to learn about their music (hopefully so they stop making the CRAP that is now on the radio).
The Beatles music is the classical music of our time. There are full out college courses for FULL CREDITS offered on The Beatles! There will NEVER be another rock band that will have a class taught about them....NEVER
I had the PURE pleasure of attending Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp in London in 2007. We went to Abbey Road Studios like 3 days in a row and recorded in THE Beatles studio (Studio 2). THEN we went to Liverpool and jammed at the Cavern Club!!! It was a religous experience for me and my life will forever be changed for the better! Just being in that room where all the music I LOVE was created was VERY sureal....and VERY COOL :)
OK, I can talk about the Beatles literally ALL DAY, so I'll shut up now!
BUT, if anyone out there is a HUGE Beatlemaniac, check out Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp! The next camp is in London in May!

I concur with the general position- the Beatles were a true amalgam of unique talents. It would be futile to separate a member from the mix as a favorite, musically. It remains evident, examining the Beatle catalog, just how innovative the Beatles were. From the early covers to the later experimentation, the band explored diverse genres and forms to produce popular music that transcends generations and fashion.
The Beatles (as well as the Beach Boys) redefined music recording, leading the way to multitrack recording and electronic production techniques.
You omit Billy Preston, who was dubbed "the Fifth Beatle," Tony Sheridan (the only other non-Beatle to receive album credit); manager, Brian Epstein and producer, George Martin, together- a lionshare in defining the Beatles.
