They used to hang horse thieves, but what about people who heist classic ponies?
State Police are looking for help in locating a 1965 Ford Mustang that was stolen from a commercial lot in Newstead.
The car was being repainted and had the front bumper, front grill and headlights removed.
Anyone who may have seen this vehicle or with information on this investigation is asked to contact the New York State Police in Clarence at 716-759-6831.
UPDATE, Friday, 10:30 a.m.: Just received this message from the State Police:
Reference the attached press release sent on 09/10/09, this stolen vehicle was recovered at 9:15am in the Town of Newstead after someone read the artice in the Buffalo News and noticed the vehicle sitting unattended. No arrests have been made at this time.

Wow, that's crazy. How do people get away with that? Did they tow it? Put it on a flatbed? How did someone not notice? I hope they find the car (in one piece) & the thieves. I wonder if there's more to this story than we know?
I had a '71 Monte Carlo & it was stolen in the town of Greece (Yep, the "Grease Police") back in 1986. Called the police. Not much help there. My husband (at that time)combed the streets of Rochester for days & nights. He found it abandoned at a gas station 1 week later. When asked about the car, the garage owners said, "oh, someone left it here. He called the cops & they said if no one claimed it within 30 days, you can keep it." The police NEVER called us to say it was found. Thank God HE found it. (I doubt they even tried.) But...broken motor mount & a tail light, plus a few dings in the back qtr. panel.
