I check into as many candidates as I have time for, and I will not vote for some folks, regardless of party. I once knowingly voted for a Dem candidate who was not qualified to be on a local advisory board let alone US Senator, just because he had the D next to his name. I'll not do that again. But for the most part, if I do not know the candidates in a race I'll vote for the Dem - odds are the Dem candidate will reflect my views a whole lot more than the GOP, Green, Libertarian, or other party nominee.
I tend to agree with Howard on this one. Voting for the person over the Party affiliation is quite smart in races, especially on the Local level. I mean for Highway Superintendent, or Coroner, is there really such thing as a Democrat or Republican road or corpse?
However, in a contest for a Congressional seat, where the first vote cast in session is for Speaker of the House, I think one has to vote for the Party. The Speaker sets the agenda and calls the shots. I think I have to go with the Party Line on this one.
Boy, I hope I am in the minority opinion with this thought process. I think there are some good Republicans out there. I hope they prove me wrong and do not pull the lever (touch the screen - I am old) for the corrupt Chris Collins. I guess we shall see on Tuesday!
I always look at the person and not the party. Unfortunately there are to many that play politics like a team game and vote for the team and not the candidate.
Lets take Chris Collins for instance. When he was campaigning he would go out and meet his constituents and was very active. He actually seemed like a decent person at face value. Over time it felt like he simply abandoned everyone. With the latest accusations and his behavior it seems that he is more into protecting himself and avoiding answering for anything over interacting with his constituents. Also, the latest bashing political advertisements on TV and the internet are disgusting. I'm not a fan of negative campaign ads like the ones for him. Especially when these ads are outright lies and misleading to trick people.
Larry Piegza I can't say much about. He seems OK, but he claims to be pro-Trump. I am not a fan of Donald Trump and Trump Policies. That really turns me off from considering him outright.
Nate McMurray is actively campaigning and seems to be a good fit for WNY. He supports a mix of views that agree with a lot of people in this area. The only issue is the party affiliation. If he was Republican I'd almost be willing to bet that he would get most of the vote over Collins.

I ignore party affiliation.
I ignore party affiliation. If I can't find a candidate in a race that I like, I don't vote in that race.
I don't believe in voting for the "lesser of two evils." You're still voting for evil, then.
Voting party line makes it easy for the corrupt and the incompetent to win or retain office.
