The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Genesee County is hosting a film screening on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Stuart Steiner Theatre at Genesee Community College. The docu-film is “Hollywood Beauty Salon” and it is part of a film series about mental illness called the Reel Mind. The film portrays life at an intimate beauty parlor inside the NHS Germantown Recovery Community, a nonprofit mental health program iin Philadelphia, where staff and clients alike are in the process of recovery.

Watch for fireballs, shooting stars and glowing streaks in the sky as the Perseid Meteor Shower approaches its peak on Friday, Aug. 12th from 9:30 to 11 p.m. at the Genesee County Park & Forest Interpretive Nature Center. Learn all about this annual cosmic fireworks show and hear the stories behind summer’s constellations.

Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Alabama and Shelby is hosting its annual Spring Into Nature celebration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. Activities will be at the Refuge Visitor Center on Casey Road with a bald eagle watch located at Cayuga Overlook on Route 77. Join us as we welcome spring back to the swamp with a variety of nature-related exhibits, plus free crafts and games for the kids. Our theme for Spring Into Nature is Migration, in honor of the Migratory Bird Treaty Centennial 1916-2016.

Special Edition of Reel Discussions for Adults Place: Richmond Memorial Library Date & Time: Thursday, Oct. 15th, at 6 p.m. The movie for this Special Edition of Reel Discussion for Adults is “Copperhead.” Come view the movie and then join us as the movie’s screenwriter, local resident Bill Kauffman, leads the group discussion afterward. Copperhead, the great untold aspect of the Civil War, visits the devastation and unimaginable loss of a civil war upon a family and a community. This is the Civil War come home.
