Batavia cops are on the lookout for a loose chicken in the vicinity of 111 Washington Ave. in the city. The caller to dispatch is the owner, who says it made its escape this morning.

UPDATE 1:39 p.m.: "Rooster secured at 127 South Swan," a dispatcher tells a patrol, now en route to that location. The officer says he'll try to speak with the person who captured the fowl.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: No word yet on how the rooster got across busy East Main Street and continued in a southeasterly direction, a trek totaling about a mile -- which Google Maps says is a four-minute drive. Here's a map of the driving route(s); but of course it's most likely the bird hoofed it.

Law enforcement is responding to the Clinton Crossing Apartments on Clinton Street Road in Batavia after a woman called dispatch to report "a male subject is laying on her couch -- unknown who it is."

UPDATE 8:52 a.m.: The male, described as white with blond hair and a blond beard and wearing a "black hood" left the apartment and was walking toward Route 33 (Clinton Street Road). Law enforcement is now out with him.

Le Roy police are responding to a complaint of a dangerous condition at the Royal Apartments, Building #15, at 103 W. Main St. A male is riding around the building on a snowmobile.

An elderly man who lives on Warsaw Road in Le Roy called dispatch stating he "believes his roof is coming off because he can hear it going up and then sliding back down." A sheriff's deputy just arrived to check on the roof and the welfare of the resident.

The deputy says "The roof is starting to come off." Code enforcement will be called to respond.

Also, in Elba, a tree is down and blocking the roadway on Norton Road between Edgerton and Batavia-Elba Townline roads. Elba Fire Police are called to control traffic.

A woman is reportedly walking backward on West Main Street Road, Batavia, in the area of Mancuso Limousine. 

The caller is concerned she might walk out into traffic.

A deputy is responding.

City police are responding to the area of 100-200 Washington Ave. for a woman a caller says "is freaking out because her car has a dead battery." The caller is no longer in the area. "Copy the freak-out," says an officer who will be responding.

UPDATE 12:44 p.m.: The officer tells a dispatcher "I have a female and two small children in my vehicle so they can stay warm until triple A gets here."

A caller complained to dispatch that a female was smoking a cigarette inside a black Dodge Caravan while an infant was in the vehicle. The vehicle, which is registered to an owner who lives in Clarence Center, was last seen near the Peking Buffet and left BJs Wholesale shopping plaza in an unknown direction of travel. Law enforcement is responding.

Law enforcement is asked to be on the lookout for a 2016 gray Honda CR-V traveling southbound on Route 77. The SUV, registered to a female in Tonawanda born in 1933, is reportedly going 20 mph in a 55-mph zone.

"This is one for the books," a dispatcher told an officer before sending him to Target for a complaint about "an individual consuming beer while driving around in a motorized shopping cart in the store."

A car has struck Santino's Pizzeria at 2 Main St. in Oakfied. No injuries are reported. Oakfield Fire Department is responding.

A hit-and-run accident was reported at Jackson and Ellicott Street about 10 minutes ago. No injuries. A black SUV struck a gray For pickup truck and left the scene, headed eastbound on Ellicott, when it turned left on Liberty Street.

The black SUV was located behind Wortzman Furniture store unoccupied and Batavia police are out with it now. 

There was minor passenger-side fender damage to the gray pickup.

The suspect vehicle is missing its front grill, among other damage (see photo above).

The investigation is continuing.

UPDATE 12:11 p.m., Saturday: Det. Eric Hill said officers were able to locate the vehicle last night because he was able to review the video recording from the police department camera at Ellicott and Liberty streets. The vehicle was seen on the video turning from Ellicott onto Liberty and heading into a parking lot off of Liberty. As far as Hill knew, as of this morning, the suspect had not yet been located.

A caller to dispatch reports seeing a small yellow cropduster-like plane appear to go down in a wooded area in Indian Falls. No signs of smoke. The location is described as being on the south side of Phelps Road, about a mile from Route 77, in the area of Houseknecht Road. A Sheriff's deputy is heading there to check it out.

UPDATE 7:31 p.m.: This proved to be unfounded. The plane was flying. 

Traffic is stopped at Richmond Avenue and Oak Street because a Sheriff's deputy is trying to herd kittens across the road.

They kitties are in the roadway and he's trying corral them or move them out of harm's way; no word on momma. 

UPDATE 1:02 p.m.: Traffic is flowly freely. A kitten is now inside the patrol car; the others must have skittered off.

UPDATE 1:11 p.m.: The deputy is en route to the shelter with the kitten.

A portion of the ceiling fell down inside the TA Travel Center. No smoke or flames, but the electricity is live and there was some sparking. The area inside where this occurred was not specified. No injuries reported. Pembroke and Indian Falls fire departments are responding.

UPDATE 12:12 p.m.: A code enforcement officer from the Town of Darien is responding.

A fight was reported outside at Hutchins Place and Lewis Place in the city. A caller to dispatch says the fight broke out after a dog was shot with a BB gun. A black male and female and a white male were involved; they subsequently went into a gray house. City police are on scene at 22 Hutchins Place.

An assault is reported at Tim Hortons at 20 Main St. in the city. Police are on scene. Mercy medics are called to respond in non-emergency mode.

The Batavia City Fire Department's third platoon is called to stand by in headquarters. City firefighters are working an unspecified chemical spill at UMMC.

Lots of manure on the roadway has created a dangerous condition on Creek Road down to East Road in the area of Baskin Farm, Town of Batavia. Dispatch has received multiple calls on this. Sheriff's deputies are responding.

A possible stabbing is reported in the area of 700 Ellicott St. Mercy medics are to stage at Liberty and Ellicott streets. City police are responding.

UPDATE 9:52 a.m.: The injury "was to the wrist"; Mercy medic #1 is called into the scene.

UPDATE 10:01 a.m.: Someone's stitches broke open and the person needs the wound repaired. No one was stabbed.

UPDATE 10:08 a.m.: Mercy medics transported the patient to UMMC.

A caller reports "a black male is shooting a gun into the water" -- Oatka Creek -- "on Mill Street near the school," which a dispatcher says does not make sense. The incident location is possibly near Pleasant Street (and Mill Street) in Le Roy. Law enforcement is responding.
