Proposal for the LeRoy Pool July 13th Village meeting

Let us again well up that effort and pride that got the pool built.

By lucie griffis

As I sit here and keep rereading the Note's from the Mayor's Corner this week in the LeRoy Pennysaver I am thinking how upset his personal opinion is.  I have to remember how biased mine is though.  I am for the pool.

The Mayor Ged Brady started with one key point that we all need to realize though.  " Thirty years ago, when the Village pool was built, there was a welling up of Village and Town effort, funds, and pride."  as stated by Ged Brady.  He is absolutely correct.

THE FUNDING IS BEING PROPOSED AT THE JULY13TH MEETING AT NO COST TO THE TOWN OR VILLAGE UNTIL NEXT YEAR.  THERE ARE GENEROUS DONATIONS FOR ALL NEEDED.

In the past few years and discussion we as a community having been to busy in our own lives.  We have not been filling out the survey or going to the meetings.  Either we were renters who felt we could not do them and send in or just to busy and leaving it up to someone else to determine it's fate..

IT IS NEVER TO LATE TO STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU WANT AND NEED.

This is not just for tax payers.  If you live here or used that pool you have a voice.  Renters pay landlord who use rent to pay taxes.  Other surrounding communities use our pool.  All are encouraged to attend the Village Board meeting on July 13th at 7pm corner of Rt. 5 and Rt 19 at the Village Hall.  It is an open forum where all can be heard.  Even if you just come stand there to hear the proposal and to show you NEED and WANT IT.

LET US NOT NEGLECT IN ALL THE OTHER REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF SIDEWALKS AND ROADS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE HAVE- OUR YOUTH.  THEY NEED AND WANT THE POOL BACK.  WE ARE ALWAYS SAYING THEY ARE LOAFING ALL OVER AND GETTING IN TROUBLE. LET US LEAD BY EXAMPLE AND GIVE THEM SOMEWHERE SAFE TO SWIM.  As a taxpayer the youth are worth that little extra.

The old saying goes that it takes a Village to raise a child.  They are absolutely correct in this situation.  IT IS GONNA TAKE US JUMPING ON THE WAGON RIGHT NOW TO SHOW THAT WELLING OF PRIDE AND EFFORT AS A COMMUNITY TO GIVE OUR YOUTH A VOICE AND A SAFE PLACE TO SWIM.

We as a community can save our pool.

Please come out in support of the proposal for the generous funding that will bring the pool up to and running per state code.

The numbers the mayor produced in the Pennysaver were higher -much higher, than the quoted number I asked at the last meeting.

I was an active pool member every day of those 6-7 weeks the Mayor pointed out the pool is open.  I LEARNED TO SWIM THERE.  I MET LIFE LONG FRIENDS THERE FROM THIS COMMUNITY AND OTHER SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES WHO OUR POOL WAS IMPORTANT TO THEIR YOUTH TOO.

I realize more people are getting pools and all, but I am a check to check person with four kids who need and want this pool.  I again would be family pass members for every season.

I am willing to fundraise annually to offset costs and I know many others who would do that.  We already have parent volunteer obligations for our kids in anything else they participate in.
