Each year Present Tense holds a poetry contest and announces the winners at the end of April, which is National Poetry Month. More than 75 poems were submitted for this year's contest. The 2009 winners and poems are listed here: http://www.presenttensebooks.com/events/contest.php
The publisher is billing this book as fatherhood for dummies, and that about sums up this honest and funny memoir. Lewis decided to keep a written record of what actually happened immediately after the birth of each of his three children. This book is his record; it is an account of ordinary family life recorded from the man’s point of view. Lewis finds himself expected to feel things as a father that he doesn’t feel, and to do things that he can’t see the point of doing. At first he feels guilty but then he realizes that many other fathers share the same feelings. The humor and writing is very similar to a Bill Bryson book complete with brash, witty jokes. A good Father's day gift for Dad!

Author Lorna Bartlett was the guest of Present Tense for a book signing on Saturday, and she left an apparent fan of the charming shop on Washington Avenue.
What a terrific store! Housed in a gorgeous old Victorian home, the shop (inside and out) is painted in wonderful colors. There are several rooms filled with books, a selection of coffee and teas, children's toys (and books!), candles, hand-sewn purses (I was really tempted by those), pretty teacups, a gallery of original photographs, magnetic poetry kits, and lots of other marvelous things. I admit, I did succumb to temptation and bought a package of Who Dunn-Its sticky notes.
If you missed the signing, Bartlett left some signed books at the store.
Check her post for more details about her afternoon at Present Tense and some pictures she took of the store.
