OLD TROOPER TO BE HONORED

I AM LOOKING FOR RELATIVES OF THOMAS LEO CORBETT TO BE PART OF A RECOGNITION CEREMONY THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE SPRING.  akurek@rochester.rr.com 

 
> Several years ago, I wrote an article in my book  (The
> Troopers Are Coming) about  Trooper Thomas Leo Corbett
> from Batavia, New York. In synopsis, Corbett, a 10 year
> veteran was a passenger driven by Trooper William in 
> Silage’s personal automobile enroute to Batavia in the
> early morning hours of January 14, 1931. Nearing Caledonia,
> New York
on Route 5, they were forced off the roadway by an
> unkown vehicle who failed to stop. The Silage car drove over
> an embankment trapping Corbett under the wreckage. When help
> finally arrived and Corbett was taken for medical treatment,
> it was learned that he suffered spinal damage and a crushed
> pelvis.  While he lay in the hospital, his enlistment
> (2 years) had expired and he was place on DISABILITY
> RETIREMENT.  Corbett never left the hospital going to
> his final patrol from complications on October 14, 1933. His
> death was never recognized at the time as being worthy of
> recognition on the Wall of Honor at the Academy.
> Good News -  Sometime during the 2010 calendar year,
> PBA President Tom Mungeer based on my article authored a
> letter to the Superintendent seeking recognition for Corbett
> to be so honored. This led to Sr. Inv. Tim Murphy , Division
> HQ being assigned the task of investigating the merits of
> Corbett being so honored. A collaboration between, Mungeer,
> Murphy and myself  and further intense research led to
> the following conclusion. Corbett was deserving of being
> honored and during the Second week of February, was approved
> by Division for inclusion on the Wall of Honor at the
> Academy. Further, on February 15, 2011, Corbett was also
> approved by DCJS for inclusion to the New York State Wall of
> Fame honoring all  fallen Police Officers.  I
> understand there will some type of ceremony  for this
> induction sometime this spring.  The next effort will
> be to have him recognized Nationally, perhaps in 2012.

> have past & the new breed took enough interest in caring to have this
