Join us at the Holland Land Office Museum for the next edition of our Trivia Night @ the Museum on Thursday, January 9 at 7 p.m. In honor of the presidential inauguration this month, come and test your knowledge of when a President of the United States takes office. The Holland Land Office Museum is proud to welcome back as its first Guest Speaker of 2025, Civil War historian and author Chris Mackowski on Tuesday, January 21 at 7 p.m. In honor of the birthday of Stonewall Jackson, Chris will be presenting on his book, "The Last Days of Stonewall Jackson" of the Emerging Civil War series. The presentation will cover Jackson's military career and the last fateful days during the Battle of Chancellorsville that led to his mortal wounding. Admission is $5 or $3 for museum members. The Holland Land Office Museum’s first Java with Joe of 2025, will be on January 23! Our Executive Director, Ryan Duffy, will be talking about the life and legacy of Batavia’s own Medal of Honor and Order of the First Volunteer of the Civil War from New York recipient, Charles Rand! Holland Land Office Museum welcomes Joyce Thompson-Hovey as July's guest speaker

The Holland Land Office welcomes back as its next presenter in its Guest Speaker Series on Thursday, July 18 at 7 p.m., Joyce Thompson-Hovey. She will be presenting "The Baker Boys of Stafford," about the incredible lives of Colonel Lafayette Baker and his brother Captain Calvin Baker, who were both spies for the Union and heavily involved in the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth. The Bakers lived for a time in Stafford.

HLOM's Guest Speaker Series - Lorna Czarnota

We are welcoming Lorna Czarnota back to the Holland Land Office! If you missed her last year make sure you make this one on your calendar. She will be discussing her book Wicked Niagara. Its sure to be an interesting side of the Niagara Frontier filled with fun discussions. Cost is $3 per person or $2 per museum member.

HOLM'S Guest Speaker Series - Derrick Maxfield

Derrick Maxfield will be visiting the museum on Thursday Aug. 20th at 7 p.m. to talk about "Hellmira." The Elmira, NY fort that would come to be known as “Hellmira” among its prisoners began as a Union training post called Camp Rathbun. The fort was turned into a prison camp in 1864 with almost no notice. That was just the beginning...

HLOM Guest Speaker - Michael L. Hawley talks about his book on Dr. Frances Tumblety, an American suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders

Hawley as he talks about Dr. Frances Tumbelty who was known mostly for being a Jack the Ripper suspect, lived for a brief period with family in Rochester and is buried in a family plot in Rochester, NY. Free Spaghetti Dinner: Pasta for Peace

The second “Pasta for Peace” free spaghetti dinner, will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 6:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main St., in Batavia.  Local author and peace advocate Jim Morasco will be the featured speaker.  90 people attended the first Pasta for Peace in September.
