Public info meeting on proposed $14.5 million Bethany Water District #5 at Bethany Town Hall

There will be a public informational meeting for the proposed Bethany Water District #5 on Monday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Bethany Town Hall. This is to discuss the $14.5 million water project for most of Bethany.

The public is encouraged to attend.

Bethany Town Hall is located at 10510 Bethany Center Road in Bethany.

Corfu, county may be heading to court in water dispute

Neil J. Miller

Neil J. Miller, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday (October 16, 2015) at his home in North Java. He was born January 16, 1927 in Buffalo, New York to the late Louis (Catherine Collier) Miller. He is preceded in death by his wife Marguerite (Marge) Eley; brothers Jerome, Gerald, Carl and Louis Miller and sisters Catherine and Rita Mary.

Neil served in the US Army during WWII in Italy. He retired after working for Ford Motor Co. for 35 years.  Neil also worked for Ortners International Dealership in North Java, Hogans Grocery and as a part time mail carrier.  After retirement Neil was a School Bus Driver for Becker’s Bus Service. He was an avid outdoorsman. Neil enjoyed hunting with his son’s, fishing and camping.  For many years he was the Boy Scout Master for the local troop.  Neil loved music, playing his guitar and singing for family and friends.  In his youth he played in several bands and called square dances. He was an active volunteer. Neil served on the Advisory board for the North Java Fire Department, St Nicholas Church Council and also served as the former North Java Water Commissioner.  He was also a member of the the VFW/American Legion and Pheasants Forever.

He is survived by his children, Neil (Peter) Miller (Debbie) of Corning, NY, Sharon Pierce of Attica, Daniel (Suzanne) Miller of Attica, Thomas (Sue Ann) Miller of North Java, Louis (Mary) Miller of East Bethany, Christopher (Karen) Miller of Strykersville, Patrick (Christie) Miller of Spencerport; brother Herman (Esther) Miller of North Java and sister Grace (Peter D’Amico)Tuller of Syracuse; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and special Friend Donna Fraser of Eden.

Friends and family are invited to call on Sunday October 25, 2015 from 2:00-600PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC 135 Main Street Attica, New York 14011. An 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday October 26, 2015 at Church of St. Cecilia’s (St. John Neumann Parish)

John Douglas "Jack" Moodie

East Bethany - John Douglas “Jack” Moodie, age 87, of East Bethany, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy with his loving family by his side.

Mr. Moodie was born August 17, 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, the son of the late Douglas Anderson Moodie and Mabel King Moodie.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Maureen Moodie and his sister, Eleanor Urban.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joan Topham Moodie; his children, John Moodie of Albany, David (Michele) Moodie of Dansville, Russell (Ellen) Moodie of Webster, Mark Moodie of Conesus, Joanne (John) Holler of Vermont and Robert (Vinci) Moodie of Gates; 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Moodie served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-1953. He was a partner in Jay Cee Construction and then owner of J D Moodie Construction building many homes and commercial buildings in Western New York during the 1950's-1970's. A True Jack of all Trades he later worked for The Harris Corporation, Carlson Co., and then ultimately retired from Bausch & Lomb.

Jack and Joan traveled throughout the United States in their camper during retirement and when they stopped traveling, Jack became a volunteer at Crossroads House in Batavia and then delivered Meals on Wheels well into his 80's.

The family would like to thank the staff at LeRoy Village Green for their excellent care and compassion given to Jack and his family in the last few weeks.

Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mary Immaculate Parish, 5865 Ellicott Street Road, East Bethany.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Activities Fund at the New York State Veteran's Nursing Home, 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia, New York 14020 or to Crossroads House, P.O. Law and Order: Driver charged with DWI after accident on Lewiston Road

Antonio Diego Dames, 42, of Knowlesville Road, Oakfield, is charged with: DWI; driving with a BAC of .18 or greater; aggravated unlicensed operation, 1st; driving without an interlock device; and moving from lane unsafely. Dames was arrested following an investigation by Deputy Travis DeMuth into a one-car accident reported at 4:28
