Bethany native pens sci-fi thriller to encourage another way 'to think about the world'

As a former teacher, Alexander graduate Mike Porter liked to investigate particular issues, including science fiction, the paranormal, and aliens, and it led him to questions about if the universe is so vast, where is everybody? His research and questions led him to pen his first book, "The Graveyard Relays."

Rosine Wloch, 83 of East Bethany, passed away peacefully on Thursday (August 22, 2024) at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY.

She was born July 7, 1941 in Warsaw, NY, a daughter of the late Frank and Mae Catanese Bonadonna.

Rosine was a teacher at the former St. Anthony’s School for many years. She was a member of Ascension Parish, where she and her husband were very involved with activities, especially the Altar and Rosary Society. She also took part in the Notre Dame prayer group

 Rosine enjoyed cooking and quilting.  She cherished her time spent with her quilting group, sharing stories, laughter and creativity.  Her quilts are a testament to her kindness, patience and boundless creativity.  Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her students, family, friends and in every quilt she made. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Norbert Wloch of East Bethany. Daughter, Lori (Charles) Diamos of Illinois, Brian (Jennifer) Wloch of Virginia and Patrick (Amber) Wloch of South Carolina. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 2nd, 10:00am at Ascension Parish, South Swan Street, Batavia. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Mt. Morris, NY. at a later date.

Memorial Contributions may be offered to St. Luke Mission of Mercy, 325 Walden Ave., Buffalo, NY 14211. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.mcandrewfuneralhomes.net.

HELEN C. DUNN

HELEN C. DUNN - age 92, of Batavia, died peacefully Friday afternoon January 16, 2015 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born September 17, 1922 in Bethany, NY to the late Theophil and Agnes (Skotnicki) Zajaczkowski, also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Robert Henry; siblings, Stanley, Matthew, Alexander, John, Sylvester, Casimer and Sophie Zajaczkowski.

   Helen was a member of Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart), she enjoyed playing bingo, collecting toy bears and Polish Music.

   Surviving are her children, Raymond (Barbara) Dunn of MD, Paul (Dawn) Dunn of Attica and Debra Dunn of TN; brother, Walter Zajaczkowski of Batavia; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

   The Dunn Family will be present from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday January 20, 2015 at the Michael S. Tomaszewki Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers will be recited at 11:00 a.m. followed by a 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension Parish. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph's Cemetery and memorials in her memory can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
