Lila B. Ball, 69, of Perry and formerly of Batavia, passed away on March 2, 2023.

Lila was born December 11, 1953 in Whittier, CA, a daughter of the late Frank and Flora (Bolster) Patrick.

Lila practiced nursing for 35 plus years as an LPN.  She loved taking care of people.  Lila graduated from McAuley Hall Nursing School.  

Surviving are her sons, Jason Ball of Batavia and Chris "Beaner" Ball of Batavia; grandchildren, Kylan Ball, Nolan Ball, Adalyn Ball and Braelyn Ball; a brother, Frank Patrick of Houston, TX; sisters, Valerie Patrick of Byron and Wendy Patrick of LeRoy and nieces and nephews.

In death, Lila is reunited with her late husband, Michael Ball.

There are no prior calling hours.  Lila's Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on March 22 at High Point Community Church, 1163 Main Street, Corfu.

Julia A. Gervasi, 88, of East Pembroke, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2023.

Julia was born on July 5, 2023, in Westfield, New York, a daughter of Nicholas and Mary Antoinette (June) Gervasi. 

Julie was a nurses aid at St. Jerome’s Hospital, worked at the Pembroke Primary School and was the proprietor of Magoo’s. 

Surviving is her son Bob Gervasi; honorary daughter-in-law Marie; 3 step-grandchildren, Jamie, Michael and Heather and step-great grandson Alexander. Many dear friends also survive.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Hillside Cemetery, East Pembroke.

Leroy C. Ball, 84, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 12, 2023.

Leroy was born in Belmont, New York on June 26, 1938, a son of the late Frank and Lucille (Hall) Ball. He is predeceased by his sisters, Irene and Shirley and his brothers, Frank, Jr., Duane and Rex.

Leroy grew up on the family farm. He had a love and passion for machinery and heavy equipment. He worked for Don Smith Excavating and Lee Schoenthal and found great joy running the heavy equipment. He was a life member of the WNY Gas & Steam Engine Association, former member of the Corfu Fire Department and was a wingman on the snowplow for the Town of Pembroke. Leroy was a wonderful handyman and could fix anything. His favorite pastimes were Nascar, camping and snowmobiling. 

Surviving is his beloved wife, Nancy Ball; his children, Kevin (Dawn) Ball, Diane (John) Scroger, Sandy (Bob) Peck and Peggy Bish; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; his brothers, Doug Ball and David (Jeannie) Ball. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends may call Friday, March 17, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu, NY. Funeral services will be held at the mortuary on Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Evergreen Hill Cemetery.

Michael J. Carragher, 72, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Batavia, NY, passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice House in Tavares, FL on Sunday, February 19, 2023. He was born on Feb. 16, 1951, a son of John and Mary Sullivan Carragher. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Donna Carragher.

Mike was a 1969 graduate of Notre Dame High School, attended LeMoyne College before enlisting in the US Navy in 1971, and finished his degree at the University of Rochester after his naval discharge. He spent his career working for the medical equipment manufacturer, Ritter/Castle/MDT/Getinge USA, in Rochester, NY. He was a Batavia Little League coach and served on the Richmond Memorial Library Board of Trustees. Mike enjoyed playing tennis in his Legacy Community in Florida and served on the Sports and Fitness Committee. After joining the Tri County Fly Fishing Club, he became very involved in the group’s activities and leadership, and made wonderful new friends. Mike loved American History, non-fiction books, sports, old movies, music, writing short articles, the National Parks, and was an avid fly fisherman. In 2016, Mike received a life-saving liver transplant, which was a gift from a generous grieving family. Mike was forever grateful for the next six and a half years he was able to spend with his family and friends. He cherished every single day.

Surviving are his wife, Christine Metzger Carragher; his sons, Timothy (Krista Pappas) Carragher of NJ, and Drs. Joseph (Tania) Carragher of FL; his grandsons, Nicholas, Alex and Benjamin Carragher; his sisters, Patricia (James) Whelehan of Geneseo and Nancy (John) Bachulak of Batavia; his brother, Robert (Beth Tuttle) Carragher of VA; many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Batavia ~ Donald D. Lewis, age 96, formerly of Ellicott Avenue, passed away on Sunday evening, March 12, 2023 at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.

   

  He was born November 22, 1926 in Batavia, a son of the late David and Margaret Grimes Lewis.

     Don served his country honorably with the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the Philippines during WW II.  He was past president of the Batavia Board of Realtors and past president of the Batavia Kiwanis Club and received the George E. Hixon Fellowship Award (for 50 year senior member of the Batavia Kiwanis Club).  He was also the third oldest member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia, where he served as an elder, deacon and chairman for the board of trustees.

     He is survived by his loving wife (of 73 years), Barbara Kelly Lewis; his children, Deborah Lewis-Falcone, Diane (Robert) Clark and James (Jennifer) Lewis; grandchildren, Frank (Jenn) Trigilio and Jay K. Lewis; great-grandchildren, Gianna, Ciara and Frankie Trigilio, along with many nieces, nephews and close friends.

     Don was predeceased by his daughter, Dorothy A. Lewis; son-in-law, Joseph Falcone Jr.; brother, Richard Lewis and sister, Dorothy Worthington.

Marcia A. Kohorst, 83 of East Pembroke, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Brother’s of Mercy Nursing Home.

Marcia was born on May 12, 1939, in East Pembroke, a daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Kingdon Kohorst.

Marcia retired from Graham Manufacturing in Batavia. She was a lifelong member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in East Pembroke. Marcia love to travel, bake and then share her goodies with family and friends.

Marcia is survived by her siblings; Douglas (Sylvia) Kohorst, Daryln (Edward) Arnold and Daryl (Joyce) Kohorst. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

Batavia/Oakfield - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an amazing father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Mark F. Mosco. Mark passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023 at home with his son Mark, after a battle with cancer. Mark was born in Batavia on July 30, 1948 to the late Josephine (Cassiano) Mosco and Frank Mosco of Oakfield.

Mark served in the Navy for 4 years and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was a mold maker and retired after 30 years from Rochester Products (Delpi). He made many long lasting relationships there including his best friend, Gene Valerio. After living in Oakfield for the majority of his life, he moved to Batavia and developed great relationships with his neighbors which he held dearly.

Mark is predeceased by his life partner, Toni Dixon; mother, Josephine (Cassiano) Mosco; and sister, Rita (Mosco) Davis. He is survived by his son, Mark D. Mosco, father, Frank Mosco; and sister, Diane Sage. Nieces, nephews and many cousins (Cassianos and Steffenellas) also survive.

Mark was a die-hard Steelers fan for 40+ years and loved nothing more than watching football with his son, Mark, as they rooted for Pittsburgh. He loved eating and enjoyed trying any buffet he could find. He had a passion for creating and building various things (metal or wood) to make his days easier. Mark loved going fishing, especially with his cousin, Nikki Cassiano and his partner, Judy. He always had a passion for cars and enjoyed taking rides in his BMW to get an adrenaline rush. Mark will miss his monthly Chinese Buffet outings with his best friend, Gene, and wanted to thank him for always being the best friend anyone could ask for.

Mark will be remembered by many for his huge heart, his thoughfulness, and his quick witted funny personality. It made him feel good to put a smile on someones face whether it was a story or lending a helping hand. Heaven has truly gained another angel.

In honoring Mark's wishes, a private graveside service will be held in St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Oakfield. Jeffrey R. Zajaczkowski, 35 of Alexander, passed away peacefully on Thursday (March 9, 2023) at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY after a lengthy illness.

He was born September 1, 1987 in Batavia, NY, a son of Joseph and Jean Graff Zajaczkowski of Alexander.

Jeff was a graduate of Alexander Central High School and enjoyed the yearly Alexander Tractor Pulls. He was also an avid John Deere Tractor Collector. Jeff will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Surviving besides his parents are his sisters, JoAnn Zajaczkowski of Alexander, Jessica Zajaczkowski of Alexander and Janet (Joe Bezczynski IV) Zajaczkowski of Oakfield. Brother, Joel (Rachel) Zajaczkowski of Rochester. Nieces and nephew, James, Abigail and Destiny Bezczynski and Samyah. Also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was the brother of the late James Zajaczkowski. Grandson of the late Matthew and Margaret Zajaczkowski and Harold and Mabel Graff.

The family wishes to thank the Unity Living Center at St. Mary’s Campus for the wonderful care and friendships that was shown to Jeffrey and his family.

  John P. Clark, 79, of Varysburg passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday March 8, 2023. He was born in Warsaw on June 7, 1943 to the late John and Dorothy (Reiner) Clark. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his beloved wife; Louise (Sipple) Clark; brother Bruce Clark.

He is survived by his sons; Zachery (Lindsey) Clark of Bennington; Matthew (Danielle) Clark of Johnsonburg; grandchildren Brittany, Brad, Brody and Madison; great-grandchildren Talyn, Lincoln, Leyton, Lennon and Trip; brother Keith (Arlene) Clark of Johnsonburg; brother in law Jim (Kathy) Sipple of Medina; sister in law Jerri Clark of Johnsonburg.

John enjoyed his home with Molly, his beloved dog.  He found joy in shooting his guns, tinkering with his watches, and in his daily walks in the beautiful woods surrounding his home.

EAST BETHANY — William (Bill) Shea, 84, of East Bethany, passed away Tuesday, March  7, 2023 at Elderwood of Lakeside in Brockport.

Bill was born June 20, 1938 in Batavia, a son of the late Elizabeth and Howard Shea. Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie A. Shea; sister, Peggy Cudney; brother, Gerry Shea.

Bill's life was full of love, hard work, and fun. As a kid, Bill worked hard with his family as a farmer and caring for his seven younger siblings. Bill graduated from Alexander High School, where he met his match in Marie. Bill and Marie shared a life full of family and all the wild, turbulent, and soulful love that comes with a family so large. Bill enlisted in the reserves and strived to support his family and country from an early age. Bill worked for Eaton, Yale, Towne, and was a small business owner until he bought Deluxe Machine and Tool. Figuring out how to make things work and bringing life to old reliable machines is what Bill was able to bring to his community with his 46 years at Deluxe.

Bill continued to support his community when he joined the Bethany Fire Department in June of 1983. He supported the fire department for 39 years as an active fire fighter, avid Bingo caller and poker player, and eventually joining the Board of Directors. Bill became "Judge Shea" in 1996, and served the town of Bethany until his retirement in 2020. He very much enjoyed hearing "Hi Judge Shea" when he was out and about in his community.

Bill spent his free time fixing up, looking at, and talking about antique cars and model trains. He could often be found working on an antique in the barn or train set in the basement. He sponsored many local race cars and enjoyed watching live car races. His NASCAR fandom was one of such intensity that he would often need to nap mid-race.

When Bill didn't have his hands in a large machine, he loved to spend time with family at his Black Lake cabin. He was known to be a fisherman of epic proportions. He was always able to pull a big fish out of the unlikeliest of places, with the least amount of effort.

Bill is survived by his children, Deborah (Don) Shufelt of Elba and Steven Shea of Batavia; Siblings, Bob (Mary) Shea, Frank (Linda) Shea, John (Linda) Shea, Pat (Vicky)  Shea, and Ruth (David) Hodgins; grandchildren, Nikki (Patrick) Whelley, Craig Shufelt, Amber Shea, and Emily Shea; great-grandchildren, Fergus Whelley and Oliver Whelley; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The Shea family will sorely miss the love Bill brought to all our lives. He was a family guy, through and through and always showed up for his family.

Jeffrey W. Stephan, 70, of Akron, went peacefully home to heaven on his Mother’s birthday, Monday, March 6, 2023, at the New York State Veterans Home, Batavia.

Jeff was born on November 16, 1952, in Buffalo, a son of the late Donald H. Stephan and Carol Eimer Stephan. He was predeceased by his brother Russell David Stephan.

Jeff was a Navy veteran and served our country from 1971-1975. While in the Navy he was a radioman and enjoyed learning about communications and IT and attended GCC to learn even more. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Award while in the Navy. Jeff owned a 1967 Mustang and enjoyed going to car shows and car cruises. He was a history buff and loved anything pertaining to history and military. Jeff and his buddy John loved going to the Thousand Islands to fish every year.

Jeff is survived by his loving sister Cindy (Bob) Ritter; his nieces, Kelli Thomas, Kaysi Gominiak, and Jennifer Petry; great nephews, Frank, Theo, Trent, LJ and great niece Julia. Also survived by many dear friends.

Batavia – Paul I. Randall, age 92, of Batavia, a longtime resident of Elba, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023 at United Memorial Medical Center.

He was born February 26, 1930 in Attica, a son of the late Wesley Randall and Mary Bell Roth Randall.

He leaves behind his wife, Joyce Ames Randall; sons, David P. (Laura) Randall and Todd M. Randall; grandchildren, Wesley F. Randall, Emily M. (Joe) DeSantis and Collin M. Randall; great-grandchildren, Vito and Wilam DeSantis and Abigail Randall; his sister, Pat Spring along with nieces and nephews.

Paul graduated from Elba Central School, Class of 1947, where he was president of the Student Council and played football and basketball. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce on June 17, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church of Elba. He was a lifetime member of the Elba Volunteer Fire Department, member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elba where he served as a trustee and was a member of the Fourfold Class. He was a volunteer Master Gardner at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Batavia for over 20 years.

Paul was employed at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester where he retired in 1991 as a sheet metal supervisor.

  Marion D. Conrad, 96, of Varysburg passed away on March 5, 2023. Marion was born on October 21, 1926 to the late Jervis and Nadyne Devin. She is predeceased by her loving husband Gerald Conrad; sisters Eileen Miller and Ann Elvin; brothers Leo Devin, Gordon Devin and Milford Devin.

Marion married Gerald Conrad in 1945 and built a home in Varysburg in 1957 that she still owned.  She worked as a Postal Worker at the Varysburg post office where she retired after many years. She enjoyed attending craft shows, concerts and plays with her friends. Marion was a very active member of her community, where everyone knew her. She was an active member at St Joseph’s Church, always baking and helping where needed. Marion loved gardening, she use to say she was happiest having her hands in the dirt. She loved spending time with family especially her nieces and nephews, she was everyone's 2^nd mother. 

Marion is survived by her sister Jean (Chuck) Watros of Texas; along with her beloved nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

The family would like to thank the Varysburg Community for years of love and the Wyoming County Community Nursing Home and their staff for their loving care.

Maurice Harrison, 93, a lifelong resident of Batavia, passed away on March 6, 2023 at the Frances Atkinson Home for the Retired in Newbury, Vermont, where he had been residing for the past year.

He is survived by his children, Vicki Currier of Batavia, and Marvin Harrison of Newbury, Vermont.

  Bernice M. DiFilippo, 93 of Batavia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, March 6, 2023 at United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia. She was born October 11, 1929 in Oakfield, to the late Angelo and Nunzia (Cipicchia) Acitelli. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Victor A. “Bones” DiFilippo, son-in-law Carl “Butch” Chatley, brothers, Frank (Polly) and Mario (Joan) Acitelli, sister, Edith (Sandy) Angelo, brother-in-law Roy Myers.

Mrs. DiFilippo, retired after many years at Batavia Downs. She was a woman of great faith, member of Ascension Parish, the Altar & Rosary Society, and it’s Bereavement Committee. Mrs. DiFilippo was also a member of the Paulo Busti Cultural Foundation. She enjoyed coffee with her girlfriends, cooking and most of all her family.

She is survived by her children, Susan Chatley of Batavia, Frank (Sue) DiFilippo of Corfu, sister Anne Myers of Rochester, brother, Joseph (Joyce) Acitelli of Oakfield, grandchildren, Vickie (Cam) McDonald, Ryan and Jordan DiFilippo, brother-in-law, Robert Darch of Batavia, sisters-in-law, Dolly DiFilippo of Batavia, Sue DiFilippo of FL, Penny DiFilipo of Batavia, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
