Donald J. Cecere Sr., 85, of Gainesville, FL. formally of Batavia passed away peacefully on Saturday February 11, 2017 at the North Florida Hospital surrounded by his loving family. he was born on June 21, 1931, a son of the late Angelo and Adeline (Sangus) Cecere. In addition to his parents, Donald is predeceased by Mary LoBello Cecere; brothers Albert, William, Victor, Anthony, Richard, Joseph, Arthur, Louis and Lester Cecere; sisters Mary Chaya, Edna Predmore, Dolores Figlow and Adeline Gioia.

Donald was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Batavia. He was a United States Army Veteran in the Korean War and also was a member of the National Guard. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and was in the construction business most of his life. Don was a devoted father and grandfather who loved his children, grandson, nieces and nephews more than anything. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Buffalo Bills and going to UF softball games. You could always find him in his shop working on his projects. Donald will never be forgotten by everyone who felt his love, kindness and sense of humor.

He is survived by his son; Donald J. Cecere Jr., of Gainesville, Fl.; daughters Ann M. Cecere of Gainesville, Mary J. Cecere of Gainesville and Therese M. (David Stupp) Zigrossi of Batavia; his beloved grandson Andrew Zigrossi, who was his pride and joy; along with his pals Georgie and Dexter.

Batavia  -Mrs. Judy M. Calarco, 73, of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at The LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Calarco was born March 11, 1943 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Edward and Irene Schmitt.

A waitress at The Windmill in Elba for many years, she was a member of Assembly of God Church in Batavia, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. Judy had a deep devotion to her faith reading her Bible on a daily basis. A fan of the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees, she enjoyed watching cooking shows on television. Judy enjoyed travelling with her husband Tony to Florida and Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Anthony J.  Calarco, Sr. whom she married March 21, 1987; her children,  Dawn (Randy) Piazza of Batavia, Darlene (Scott) Watson of Wellsville, Carl Larson of North Carolina,  Frank (Jackie) Calarco of Maybrook, Denise (Robert Lyness) Calarco and Anthony J. (fiancée Diana Kindig) Calarco, Jr. both of Batavia;  ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. LeRoy ~ Evelyn Tabone, age 88, passed away Wednesday morning (February 15, 2017) at United Memorial Medical Center.

    

 She was born October 11, 1928 in LeRoy, a daughter of the late Anthony and Wanda Samolyk Battaglia.

     Evelyn will be remembered as a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. 

She was very devoted to her family, her friends and her faith.  She was most at ease in her kitchen, where she enjoyed baking and canning, only to give the proceeds to others.  Her generosity and caring ways toward others was very evident and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

     She is survived by her loving son and daughter in law, David (Susan) Tabone of Batavia; her granddaughter, Danielle (Jared) McDonald-Bourbeau; her great-grandchildren, Rowan, Jaxon, Weston and Paisley, along with many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Joseph and her siblings, Sam (Helen) Guarino, Gregory (Irma) Guarino, Anthony (Rose) Battaglia, Grace (Sam) Tortorice and Helen (Bob) Zielinski.

     Family and friends may call on Sunday from 1 ~ 4 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19).  Her Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.  Interment in St. Francis Cemetery will be private.

KENNETH R. GARDNER

Age 59, of Batavia, died peacefully Tuesday morning February 14, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born June 26, 1957 in Buffalo, NY a son of Mary Wingate of LeRoy and Ralph (Marta) Gardner of Wilson, NY. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Marie Yingling and sister-in-law, Kathy Yingling   

Ken served his country honorably with the USAF Security Police Squadron from 1976 thru 1995, he then spent a short time as a toll collector on the NYS Thruway before becoming a Communications Specialist with the New York State Police, Troop A, from 1998 thru March 2016 as his health declined. His life revolved around his own family, his military family and his State Police family, he had a love for the outdoors, especially fishing and trips to Alleghany State Park. 

Surviving along with his parents is his beloved wife of 35 years, Susan (Yingling) Gardner of Batavia and their loving daughters, Jacquelyn and Michelle both of Batavia; his cherished grandchildren, Lathan, Gianna & Gabriella; sisters, June Embert of DE, Janice (Luis) Cotto of Batavia, Susan (Steve) Patruska of Oklahoma; father-in-law, James Yingling of Eden, NY; sisters & brothers-in-law, Tina (Dave) Cole, Marian Engle, Steve (Leslie) Yingling, Dave (Grace) Yingling, Theresa (Joe) Buziak, Jane (Dan) Lochner along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy (Marchese) Komosinski, 89 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 12, 2017 at Unity Hospital in Rochester. She was born June 5, 1927 in Batavia, to the late Joseph (Carrie Guggino) Marchese. She is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Komosinski; siblings Rose (Alphons) Nigro, Florence (Anthony) Joy, Joseph and Russell Marchese.

Mrs. Komosinski worked with her son at Plaza Spirits in Batavia.

She is survived by her children Ann C. (Peter) Sewert of Byron; John Komosinski of Batavia; granddaughter Carrie Sewert of Rochester, great-grandson Jaxon, sister Carolyn (Thomas) McGorroy of AZ; brother Robert (Judith) Marchese of Virginia; sisters-in-law Mary Marchese of Batavia, Antonia Marchese of FL; Irene (Dean) Hagen of FL; along with many nieces and nephews.

Robert McCarthy, 88 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 14, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born December 24, 1928 in Pembroke, NY to the late Ray (Nellie Buckman) McCarthy.

Mr. McCarthy was the Director of Environmental Services at St. Jerome Hospital in Batavia. He was a Sgt First Class in the United States Army and a Korean Conflict Veteran. He was part of the 25^th Div. 27^th Wolfhounds, receiving a Purple Heart, 3 Bronze Stars, Korean Service Medal, Japan Occupation Medal, United Nations Service Award, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Presidential Unit Emblem.  

He is survived by his loving wife Frances R. (Zalenski) McCarthy.

There will be no prior calling hours and services will be private. He will be entombed in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.

Richard H. “Dick” Klein, 79 of Perry, passed away peacefully at Wyoming County Community Hospital on February 13, 2017. He was born March 15, 1937, in Syracuse, NY, to the late William (Charlotte Holland) Klein. He is preceded in death by brothers William “Bill”, Kenneth, John Klein; sisters Joan and Cathy Klein.

Dick came to Perry as a young man. He purchased a gasoline station that became known as Klein’s Sunoco. Dick provided numerous services and was known as “Mr. Friendly”. He was a past member of the Perry Fire Department, Silver Lake Golf Club, Sportsman’s Club, VFW and Vet’s Club. After he retired he became grounds keeper for our home on Bills Road. He loved to watch all sports, especially NASCAR and the Buffalo Bills. Dick co-managed and sponsored the Villa Klein Softball Team for several years. He enjoyed watching the Perry Yellow Jackets play football and basketball. Dick loved driving on back roads exploring New York and the Amish Country.

He is survived by his wife Linda (Fox) Klein; daughter Judy (Greg) Steeg; sisters Grace (Tony) French, Charlotte (Bob) Lawton; sisters-in-law Rosemary Klein, Marion Klein along with several grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews.

Donald S. Herdlein, 41, of Batavia passed away Monday February 13, 2017 at the United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on June 4, 1975 in Buffalo to Donald and Elizabeth (Giancarlo) Herdlein of Batavia. Donny is predeceased by his grandparents Salvatore and Teresa Giancarlo.

Donny worked as a technician for PCB Piezotronics, Inc. in Depew. He was 4^th Degree Knights of Columbus member and an avid sports lover. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother and uncle.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife; Patrizia “Mabel” Herdlein of Batavia; sister Alicia (Paul Grazioplene) Herdlein of Batavia and brother Brian (Amy) Herdlein of Batavia; mother in law Maria Lino; grandparents Robert (Patricia) Herdlein of Lancaster,  along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Mrs. Enid B. Baker, 82, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017,  at her home while under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Mrs. Baker was born June 24, 1934 in Ogden, a daughter of the late William and Bertha Hill Brew.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the first graduating class at Byron-Bergen Central School in 1952 and graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Teacher Education. She worked as a school nurse in Brockport and Corfu and retired from the Batavia City School District in 1989 as the coordinator of health services.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia, she was a member of American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, the New York State Teachers Association and the New England Genealogical Historical Society. She was a volunteer for Rape Crisis for many years.

Her husband, Dean F. Baker, passed away in 2008.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (late Dennis) Hyback of Batavia; three granddaughters, Amanda Hyback, Samantha Hyback and Kimberly Hyback, all of Batavia; her brother, Howard (Sandra) Brew of Bergen; two sisters, Cordelia (late Al) Cohill of Buffalo and Laura (late Robert) Baleno of Hilton and  several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is the mother of the late Deborah Baker who passed away in 2000 and Jeffrey Baker who passed away in 2008 and sister of the late Ted (late Leslie) Brew.

Byron – Mrs. Margaret G. Foley, 93, of Byron, passed away on Saturday at the Wegman Family Cottages at Park Ridge Living Center, in Rochester.

Mrs. Foley was born October 30, 1923 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Nicholas Giembesta and Mary Pilato Giembesta.

A graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Mrs. Foley was a 35-yar employee at Schlegel Manufacturing in Rochester. A longtime member of the former St. Michael's Mission in South Byron, she served as a sacristan and organist of the church for many years. An accomplished songwriter, she wrote over 1000 hymns and had many songs published including the music used for the 165th anniversary for the Town of Byron. She had a deep love of music and was accomplished playing the organ, accordion and piano.

She loved playing cards, especially euchre, playing Bingo, trips to the casino and watching horseracing, especially at Batavia Downs. She enjoyed visits for ice cream at Lickity Splits and watching baseball, especially the New York Yankees.

She was devoted to her family, especially her granddaughters.

The family is very grateful for the wonderful care she received while she resided at The Cottages #300. 

Her husband, Kenneth E.  Foley, passed away in 1987.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon F. Bidwell of Byron; two granddaughters, Kelly (Nicholas) Picardo of Hilton and her children, Sophia and Trevor Picardo; Katharine (Richard) Gomersall of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and her children, Brennan and Kennedy Gomersall; her sister-in-law, Caroline (Walter) Edwards of Akron; lifelong friends, Michael (Marge) Rimmer of Batavia and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Patrick John Foley who passed away in 1991 and her siblings, John Giembesta, Helen DeFrancesco and Carm Morreale.

There are no prior visiting hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Brigid's Church, 18 Gibson Street, Bergen.  The family has asked that those who are attending Margaret's Mass on Saturday to write their favorite memory as her family is preparing a memory book. She will be laid to rest in Byron Cemetery.

JAYSON W. DERSHAM

Age 33, of Batavia, died Saturday evening February 11, 2017 in Alexander from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was born May 1, 1983 in Batavia, NY son of Jay and Darlene (Eastridge) Dersham of Alexander. 

Jayson was employed at Baskin Livestock where he loved his work. He was a selfless young man always doing for others, had a great sense of humor and was known for his work ethic. Jayson's life revolved around his family, he was most happy doing for them and spending time with them. 

Surviving along with his parents, is his wife of 10 years, Kristen (Cole) Dersham of Batavia and their children, Jayson K., Jaycee, Jaylene, Jayden and a "Little Angel" on the way; loving sisters, Billie Jo (Michael) Bunk of Varysburg and Joni (Richard) Smith of Mississippi; brother at heart, Cody Dersham of Alexander; mother-in-law, Marlene Wroten of Batavia; brother-in-law, James Soggs III; sisters-in-law, Marya Cole, Sierra Cole and Rachell Soggs along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. 

The Dersham family will be present from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday February 15 at the MICHAEL S.  Mabel Herman Orman, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Oswego, New York. Mabel was born on October 2, 1923 to Mabel and John Herman of Warsaw, New York. Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Sie, and her son, Terry, along with five brothers and three sisters.

She married Harold (Sie) Orman in 1942 and they resided on a farm on Route 20A in Perry Center. Mabel became a hairdresser, set up shop in her home, and while making women beautiful and happy, established many lifelong friends. Mabel found joy in caring for others; baking cookies for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sending cards to friends and family for all occasions, and volunteering at her church. She was an active member of the Perry Center First Congregational Church for all the years she lived in Perry and Warsaw and when she moved to Oswego, she became a beloved member of the Faith United Church.

She is survived by one brother, Paul (Esther) Herman, her daughters Jeanne (Michael) Brown and Joanne (Kenyon) Dickens, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mabel will live in our memories and hearts forever.

Ida “Catherine” M. Colantonio, 89 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 11, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born June 20, 1927 in Bethany, NY to the late Peter (Ida M. Schiavi) Sinibaldi. Mrs. Colantonio is preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph A. Colantonio, son James P. Colantonio, siblings Richard and James Sinibaldi, Victoria Piccolo, along with 12 brothers and sisters-in-law.

Mrs. Colantonio was a member of Ascension Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society in years past and used to assist with religious education classes. She enjoyed bingo, going to the casino, crocheting and working the St. Anthony’s Lawn Fete with her husband Joseph.

She is survived by her loving children Joseph A. (Mary) of Batavia; Louis (Debra) Colantonio of FL; Bernadette (Terry) Tiede of IA; Barbara (Roy) Pederson of PA; Peter of Batavia; Nicholas (Marcy) of Stafford; Patrick (Cathy) Colantonio of Batavia; sisters Valerie Falco of Batavia; Mary (Thomas) Adams of E. John C Pierson, 82, passed away on Friday February 10, 2017 at the Absolut Center for Nursing in Gasport. He was born on March 7, 1934 in Varysburg to the late Carl and Helen (Alwart) Pierson. John is also preceded in death by his first wife Mary Pierson; their daughters Kathy and Laurie Pierson and also preceded in death by his second wife Rose Pierson.

John served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and worked for Westinghouse as a machinist for many years and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching many different sports.  He was a member of the East Shelby Bible Church for many years with Rev. Olsen. The family extends a very special thank you to Rebecca Hoak for all the loving care and attention she has given John during his illness and time of need

He is survived by his sisters; Marge Townsend, Betty Watkins;  a brother Paul Pierson along with their children Peggy Redman ,Thomas Townsend ,Diana Armstead ,Wayne Watkins , Mimi Jackson, and a cousin Barbie Harkness, along with other family members. John is also survived by Rose children Rebecca Hoak, Deborah Patchin; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.  

There will be no prior calling hours. A 3:00PM Graveside Service with the Military Honors will held on Tuesday February 14, 2017 at the West Middlebury Cemetery in East Bethany, NY across from the West Middlebury Baptist Church 4950 W. Middlebury Rd. E. Bethany 14054.
