Corfu - Donald  K.  Schmigel, Sr., age 74  of Corfu,  passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Mercy Hosptial of Buffalo.

He was born August 17th, 1946 in Boonville, Missouri a son of the late Donald R. Schmigel and Nora Steele. 

 An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don enjoyed watching dirt track racing and NASCAR.  

Donald is the husband of Susan T. Domoj Schmigel. They were married on September 9, 1967. He is also survived by his daughter; Karie Schmigel of Stafford; his son; Donald K. (Jennifer Zynda) Schmigel, Jr.of Corfu; two grandchildren; Sheniqua Samol of Batavia and Matthew Scroger of Pennsylvania; his great-granddaughter; Lilly Avino; his brothers; Terrence Schmigel of Texas and William (Eileen) Schmigel of Missouri; his sister; Starre Szelag of Alaska; sister-in-law, Ginger Schmigel of Alabama, New York. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He is predeceased by his granddaughter; Sgt. Shaina B. Schmigel who passed away on May 30, 2014 and his brother, Lon Schmigel. 

There are no prior visiting hours.   Gerald “Jerry” Fischer, 82, of Darien Center, was peacefully welcomed in to Heaven on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

Jerry was born on October 23, 1937 in Wharton Township, PA., a son of the late Clem and Edna (Lake) Fischer. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years; (Henrietta) Ann Fischer and a grandchild.

He is survived by his brother; Ronald (Patricia) Fischer; children Sherry (Stephen) Zimmerman, Laurie Reale, Cathy (Daniel) Cutter and Richard Fischer; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.   

Jerry lived his faith daily, demonstrating love for the Lord, his family, friends and complete strangers. He had a passion for living and a passion for helping others. It was common to find him pulling stranded motorists out of snow banks. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him, called him a ‘true gentleman’. He loved to encourage others (especially his children and grandchildren), attending as many church, school and community functions as he could. He enjoyed photography and had a side gig as a wedding photographer. He shared this passion with his kids, teaching us how to take and develop photographs and started a photography club at the local 4-H.

Jerry graduated from Uniontown High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Antietam. He worked as an electronics technician for the FAA, bus driver for the Alden Central School District and was later employed by the Genesee County Center of Independent Living. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Attica, NY for many years, where he volunteered in several capacities.

At Jerry’s request, there will be no visitation and arrangements will be made in the spring due to NYS COVID restrictions.

William (‘Bill’ ’Bongo’) Barton - age 63, of Silver Springs, NY, went home to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ on the morning of Wednesday, October 14, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home on Silver Lake, after a courageous 13-year long battle against multiple myeloma. 
Bill was born in Batavia on March 12, 1957 to Charles and Nancy Barton. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob, father-in-law Ralph Houseknecht, brother-in-law Edward Houseknecht, and nephew Michael Houseknecht. Bill

is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Kay (Houseknecht) Barton; their children, Will (Catherine) Barton of Osprey, FL, and Paul (Jessica) Barton of Batavia, NY; his grandchildren: Luke, Connor and Cole; his siblings: Dave Barton of Las Vegas NV, Pam Barton of Coronado CA, and Sue Barton of Latrobe PA.  Bill is also survived by his “2nd mother,” Agnes Houseknecht of Stafford NY, and Mary Kay’s siblings - Greg of Batavia NY, Buddy (Kate) of Bonita Springs FL, Tom (Lynn) of Batavia NY, Tim (Sue) of Interlaken NY, John (Kimberly) of Wyoming NY, and Katie Berger (Gary) of Stafford NY. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as their spouses and children. 
Bill graduated from Batavia High School in 1976. He loved sports, excelling in football and basketball in school. In his later years, he spent time at the YMCA, where he was passionate about weightlifting with his buddy, ‘Moose’ Pastore. Bill worked in the skilled trades until marrying Mary Kay in 1983 at St. Mary’s Church in Batavia, after which he began his career at Pepsi-Cola and Loose Ends Vending. 
Bill worked relentlessly. His belief that he could not ask people to do something he was not willing to do himself endeared him to his employees/co-workers during his years at Pepsi and Loose Ends. Bill always credited his success to all the dedicated employees at Pepsi and Loose Ends who were like family, especially his secretary Gail Hull. Any hard worker he met instantly became a friend. Even greater than Bill’s love for a solid work ethic, Bill loved to help people. He was truly selfless.  Even in his last days, Bill was most concerned about inconveniencing his family as they cared for him.  He was also persistent about silly things like changing the lower unit oil in the boat engine and explaining the process of winterizing the plumbing in the house to his boys so ‘Mom wouldn’t have to worry about it.’ Bill was unwavering in his strength of character.  He was a rock.
Bill’s pride and joy was always his family.  Some of Bill’s favorite memories included time spent watching hockey at the Batavia ‘Royal Rink,’ cheering on his boys and their friends on the Ramparts and Ice Devils. Bill also loved fishing and hunting with his sons and good friends – especially Mike McNally - teaching his sons how to water ski at Silver Lake, and sharing good times and laughs with all their family, friends and neighbors around a roaring campfire.
Bill’s happiest moment was the day he and his wife, Mary Kay were baptized at East Shelby Community Bible Church – affirming their love and belief in Jesus Christ.  Bill took every opportunity to share his faith in Jesus with all the people he met on his journey through cancer.  He credited the Holy Spirit with divine intervention in removing all his fear as he was on the way to receiving his diagnosis in 2007.  Bill shared that miraculous story with everyone he encountered. Bill’s resolute faith allowed him to face his mortality entirely absent of fear, something he prayed will happen for everyone.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 17th at 11:00 AM at East Shelby Community Bible Church, located at 5278 East Shelby Road, Medina, NY 14103. Immediate family and close friends will be allowed inside the church. The service will also be broadcast in the church parking lot over the radio (as has been the practice through the coronavirus), and live streamed on East Shelby Bible Church’s Facebook page for those who are unable to attend in person.

  James B. Corcoran, 55, of E. Bethany passed away on Sunday October 11, 2020. He was born on February 12, 1965 to the late Burton Corcoran and Georgia Geissler of East Bethany.

James worked for many years as an Electrician Manager for Amusements of America, which was his life. He loved to travel and was constantly on the road.  James was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

In addition to his mother, James is survived by his siblings; Lynne Geissler of Batavia, John Geissler Jr. of E. Bethany, Jennifer Conway of Delmar, NY., and Kevin Corcoran of Saratoga; his step-mother Joyce Corcoran of Delmer; special aunts Mary Hale and Debbie Kerr; along with his life-long best friend Liz Blanchard of SC, and several nieces and nephews.

Jerrold W. Coughlin Sr., 73 of Elba, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (October 11, 2020) at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY.

He was born March 11, 1947 in Albion, NY, a son of the late Leo and Betty Wolffe Coughlin.

He was employed by OXBO International and DeCarolis Truck Rental prior to his retirement. Jerry enjoyed fishing any chance he could get and also enjoyed playing cards, tinkering with small engines and gardening. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and a all around jokester. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Jerrold was the father of the late Jerrold W. Coughlin Jr. and sadly missed his canine companion, Sadie.

Survivors include his wife, Lori Amato Coughlin of Elba. Sons, Samuel (Mandie) Coughlin Sr., of Oakfield and Kenneth (Cindy) Kline Sr. of Oakfield. Daughter, Tiffany Fay of Batavia. Siblings, Daniel (Nancy) Coughlin of Batavia, David (Carol) Coughlin of Batavia, Cathy Barclay of Alabama and Rick (Yolanda) Coughlin of Batavia. Also survived by 19 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his feline friend, Mookie.

  Ronald D. Penepent, 85 of Batavia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 12, 2020. He was born on May 29, 1935 in Batavia to the late Charles Penepent and the late Cora (Washburn) Schwab. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Anne (Saraceni) Penepent; grandson Vincent Gallo; brothers Edward and Raymond Penepent, and sister Luella Bennett.

Ron proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion for many years. He was extremely patriotic, proud of our flag and eagle.

Mr. Penepent was a mechanic for many years and passionate about cars his entire life. He owned and operated Ron’s Shell Service, Ron’s Chevron, Ron’s Snow Service plowing many homes in the community for years. Ron worked at Wortzman Furniture, Mancuso Motors, Dan’s Tire & Auto, and as a manager at East Main Midas. He finished his working career at Home Depot in Batavia. He considered that his second home and all of his co-workers his second family. He truly loved it there.

Mr. Penepent enjoyed spur of the moment road trips with family and traveling with his wife Anne. He loved trips to the Casino and weekly card games with his friends. Ron loved his daily breakfast at the Pok-a-Dot. He took immaculate care of his yard and loved doing all of the yardwork himself. Family was everything to him and he was everything to them.  

He is survived by his children Darlene Gallo of Batavia; Sherry LaBorne of Batavia; Ronald C. “Tigar” (Patricia) Penepent of TN; James (Shelly) Pringle of VA; Charles Penepent of SC; Nicholas (Barbara) Penepent of SC; sister Joyce (Jack) Ferrara of CA; 8 grandchildren, Nicole (Joe Dean), Kelly (Ryan), Ashlee (Steven), Anthony, Elizabeth (Justin), Jimmy, Missy (Will) and Kyle; 5 great-grandchildren, Teddy, Koa, Shyanne, Stevie, Jaxon; special niece and nephew Mary and Denny Bucceri of Oakfield; along with many nieces and nephews.

Reyhan Antinore, 89, of LeRoy, faithful wife and mother and friend, entered into Eternal Life, Monday, October 12 at 3 AM, peacefully in her sleep at the LeRoy Village Green in LeRoy.

    

Reyhan was born in Ankara, Turkey on March 20, 1931.  She was predeceased by her parents, son, Khan and mother and father-in-law.

     She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Donald; one son, Yucel of Phoenix, AZ and Ahmet (Judy) of La Palma, CA; granddaughters, Keli (Weiss) of Los Angeles, CA and Keri Yasemin (Burak) of Istanbul, Turkey, along with a multitude of relations and international friends.

Batavia - C.  Dorothy  Vitulli, age 91 of Batavia passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Dorothy was born October 26th, 1928 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Silvio Vitulli and Virginia Pillo Vitulli.

A lifelong resident of Batavia, Dorothy resided at her family home her entire life in Batavia. Dorothy retired from National Fuel after 30 years of service and enjoyed traveling and the company of family and friends.  Her family would like to especially thank our loving neighbors, LuLu Buckley and Bobby Jurewicz for all their help with the Vitulli family through the years. You were a Godsend to us and we appreciate your help. .  

She leaves behind her sisters; Amelia DiFilippo and Joanne Sheelar, along with many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her loving sister, Lucy Vitulli Palatiere in 2018.

  Cindy Fugle 5/23/64 - 10/8/20. On October 8th, 2020 we unexpectedly lost our beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Cindy (Walsh/Perry) Fugle, 56, of Varysburg, New York, has joined her brother “Peach” Robert Walsh Jr. in Heaven. After a strong battle with Cancer she succumbed to complications that followed while in the hospital.

Cindy put her love for her family above everything else. She was selfless, kind, courageous, and artistic, but most of all she was loved. Cindy lived passionately for creativity, gardening, her self-owned business and her grandchildren. She single handedly carried on a family tradition of woodworking, painting, and crafts when she rebranded a legacy into “The Old Homestead Gift Shop”. Cindy worked diligently with her dear friend Lisa Boxler and husband Mark up until her final weeks here trying to prepare a quaint substitute for Apple-Umpkin and the Letchworth State Park Craft Show. Cindy’s family and friends will mourn for her and the love they all shared for her.

Cindy is survived by: her husband Mark Fugle. Her children, son: Jeremy Perry (Lisa Peterson) and daughter: Catherine Perry (Jeffery Bloomer). Her parents, Robert and Brenda Walsh of Varysburg. Her siblings: Robin Walsh and Patrick Walsh (Jocelyn Berg). Cindy also leaves behind two wonderful grandchildren that she loved beyond words and often spoiled: Ryan Perry of Attica and Zaiden Bloomer of Perry.

She will live on in all of the hearts and memories of those she has touched, and shared her kindness and craft with over the years. We all Love You Cindy. 

A Christian Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Sts. Joachim & Anne Church in Varysburg, NY followed by festivities in her remembrance at a later date next Spring. Please contact the family closer to that time if you are interested in participating with us in the services for Cindy. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to this very special soul, she will be greatly missed.

James A. Hoy Sr. 86 of Bennington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. He was born July 10, 1934 in Cheektowaga, to the late Harry (Edna Warsitz) Hoy Sr. He is preceded in death by a brother Harry Hoy Jr. and sister Marcia Linsey.

Mr. Hoy is a United States Army Veteran and served in Germany from 1954 to 1956. He worked at Trico Products in Buffalo for 20 years and the Town of Bennington Highway Department for 10 years.

James was a life member of the Bennington Volunteer Fire Company, president of the fire company for 12 years through the 1980’s. He was instrumental in getting ambulance service established through the Fire Company.

His hobbies included restoring old cars, cutting wood at the cabin and having a cold beer with friends. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Hoy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Sharon (Haller) Hoy; children Julie (John) Perry, James (Cody) Hoy Jr., Jay (Patricia) Hoy; grandchildren John Henry (Kirsten) Perry; Casey Hoy; Hudson Hoy; Fenton Hoy; sisters Judy Dubois, Annette Miller and Karen Balduf; along with many nieces and nephews.  

There will be no prior calling hours, a Celebration of Life will be determined for a later date due to COVID-19 restrictions. He will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, Bennington.

  Nancy L. Michaels, 81, of Batavia passed away on October 11, 2020 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born on November 7, 1938 in Collins, NY to the late Alfred and Agnes (Johnson) Warner.

Nancy was a graduate of the University at Buffalo. She worked for many years as a Medical Secretary for two different Surgeons at the VA Hospital in Batavia. Nancy was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she belonged to the Attica Golf Club and loved to bake, cook and raised African Violets in the house. She enjoyed Art, painting and quilting.

She is survived by her husband; Brent Michaels of Batavia; children Amy (Jon) Hathaway of Attica, Chris Michaels of Arcadia and John Michaels of Batavia; Four grandsons Christopher Berardini, Colin (Morgan) Berardini, Alexander (Katherine) Berardini and Tyler Michaels; a Granddaughter Vaida Almeter; a great-grandson Aiden Berardini.

East Pembroke - Norman Dusen, 80 of East Pembroke, passed away on Wednesday, (October 7, 2020) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mr. Dusen was born January 6, 1940 in Batavia, a son of the late Lloyd and Lois (Scoins) Dusen.

Mr. Dusen was a member of the Oakfield United Methodist Church.  He was a lifetime member of the East Pembroke Fire Department, Oakfield Rod & Gun Club, and Godfrey's Pond.  He was a member of the Genesee Society of Model Engineers in Oakfield.  He is a former member of Pioneer Youth Athletics where he was a Football Commissioner and Softball Coach, he is a former Boy Scout Leader in South Byron and East Pembroke.

The Dusen family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff of UMMC's 2nd Floor, the ICU, and Wound Clinic.

Norman is the husband of Marilyn (Jackett) Dusen.

Surviving along with his wife are his children, Lynda Dusen of Stafford and Timothy Dusen of East Pembroke; his sister, Elaine (Tony) Barniak of Batavia; a sister-in-law, Shirley Jackett of Hornell.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Gary and Kenneth Jackett.

Arlene  M.  Demarest, 86, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Arlene was born January 16, 1934 in North Java, a daughter of the late LeeRoy and Ethel (Whitcomb) Duckworth.

Arlene enjoyed being outside, gardening and flowers.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen (John) Gallo of Batavia; grandchildren, Amy (Charles) Hathaway of Churchville and Jason (Amanda) Gallo of LeRoy; great-grandchildren, Miranda, Makenna and John "Jack"; a sister, Carol (Frank) Aquino of Elba; sisters-in-law, Ruth Duckworth of Oregon and Betty Duckworth of Batavia; a brother-in-law, Bill Snyder of Rochester and several nieces and nephews.

Arlene is the wife of the late Robert Demarest and sister of the late Clara Snyder, Cleta Davis, Oma Reddick, Ida Duckworth, Harold Duckworth, Willard Duckworth, Paul Duckworth, Carl Duckworth, Howard Duckworth, Raymond Duckworth, Irene Duckworth and Ida Duckworth.

Batavia - James  R.  Fargo, 68 of Batavia passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, (October 6, 2020) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mr. Fargo was born September 12, 1952 in Batavia,  a son of Mary (Grace) Fargo of Pembroke and the late Warren Fargo.

James served his country honorably with the Air Force and enjoyed building models and collecting sports memorabilia.  He was an avid bowler, Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan.  Mr. Fargo and his wife, Amy also enjoyed traveling.  

He is the husband of Amy (Wolfe) Buck Fargo of Batavia.

Surviving along with his wife and mother are his children, Jason (Jennifer) Buck and Janice (Christopher) Hare both of Batavia; grandchildren, Amanda (Ifran) Figueroa of Virginia, Christopher (Paige) Hare of North Carolina, Matthew Hare, Brandon Buck, Camryn Buck, and Liam Hare all of Batavia; a great-grandson, Mateo Figueroa; a brother-in-law, Bob Clement of Stafford.  Several nieces also survive.

Preceded in death by his sister, Karen Clement.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 14, 2020  from 4:00 pm  to 7:00 pm  at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St. in Batavia.  James' Funeral Service will be held privately for his family.  Burial will be in the future Western New York Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, the funeral home will be restricted to 33% occupancy.  Face coverings and social distancing will be required.  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

  Wendell Newton Bryan was born on December 23, 1953 in Batavia, NY. He was the fourth son of seven children. Wendell transitioned to eternal life on October 7, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Sydney mother, Elaine; brothers Sedley, Everett, Jerome, Nigel Bryan.

Wendell began his Christian journey as a small child at East Bethany Presbyterian Church in East Bethany N.Y., He met the Love of his life at a young age, his wife Melinda Bryan, and this union was blessed with three boys and one daughter. 

While attending Pavilion Central School. He was a Master Wrestler and loved music. Wendell played the organ, keyboard, drums and guitar. He graduated from Madison High School in Rochester, N.Y. While he lived in Jamaica, W.I. as a young child and went to school there, that's where he picked up his wrestling skills and mischievousness. So back he came with his brother Everett and he never got on a plane again. He was a hard worker and could fix and build anything. 

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; Melinda Bryan; three Beloved sons Mr. Andre' Bryan, Mr. Julian Bryan, Mr. Devin Bryan; One daughter Celina Bryan; grandchildren; Tezni Bryan, Julionna Bryan, Sophia Bryan; Great grandchildren,  Dre’dyn and Zariella; Two sisters; Leonie Bryan Beecher, Michelle (Candy) Bryan Wattley (Kenneth) and step-sister Vivienne Myers and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday October 13, 2020 from 11:00AM-12:00PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. A 12:00PM Funeral Service will follow the visitation at the Funeral Home. Wendell will be laid to rest in East Bethany Cemetery.

Please note the Funeral Home will be operating at 33% capacity per state guidelines. New York State requires those in attendance to adhere to the social distancing guidelines and face coverings are mandatory. Thank you for your cooperation.
