  Marilyn Anna (nee Knapp) Decker, 94, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday September 27 after a short illness.

Marilyn was born in Etna, NY on August 16, 1927. She was the daughter of Merle and Lillian Knapp. She graduated from East High School of Rochester in 1945 and worked 18 years for Kodak in data entry.

Marilyn was set up on a blind date by her best friend from high school with a former classmate of East High. Less than a year later, James Decker and Marilyn Knapp were married. People knew them as “Jim and Marilyn” and they were rarely separated. They truly enjoyed each other’s company and had a happy marriage that lasted almost 55 years.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by siblings;  Elinore Johnson and Elmer Knapp.

She is survived by her son Paul (Dondra) Decker and four grandchildren: James (Natalie) Decker, Grace (Joseph) Santiso, Elizabeth Decker, and Joel Decker. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren: Xavier, Michelle, Josiah, Judah, and Jordan.

Marilyn was known for her beautiful soprano voice. She enjoyed singing in choirs and performing solos in church.

The family would like to express its gratitude to Niagara Hospice who made Marilyn’s last weeks at home manageable and comfortable.

  Roger Ellis Ditzel, 95, of Corfu, NY died peacefully on Monday September 27, 2021 at the Batavia VA Medical Center, Spruce Lodge. He was born on January 11, 1926 in East Pembroke to the late Lawrence and Lottie Ditzel.  Roger is preceded in death by his wife; Shirley (Bohn). The couple was married on July 5, 1947.

Roger served his country honorably with the United States Army 41^st Infantry Regiment, 2^nd Armored Division “Hell on Wheels” during World War II.  For his service he received a: Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct, American Campaign, European –African-Middle Eastern Campaign (3 stars), WWII Victory, Army of Occupation (Germany), Combat Infantryman Badge and Ruptured Duck Pin.

Roger’s interests included gardening, hunting, coin collecting, trap shooting, bowling and family genealogy. He was one of the founders of Boy Scout Troop 64 and served as a trustee for the East Pembroke Federation Church.

Surviving is his son; Larry (Sally) Ditzel of Batavia; his daughter Linda (Anthony) Distaffen of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren Kimberly (Ty) Briggs of Flagstaff, AZ, Michael (fiancé Jenn McDermott) Ditzel of Darien, Rhonda McClurg of E. Bethany, Anthony (Stacey) McClurg of Oakfield, Aaron (Nicole) McClurg of Missoula, MT, Rebecca McClurg-Reimer (Matthew) of Magnolia, DE, Eve McClurg-Gardner (Brad) of Ft. Myers, FL; great-grandchildren McKenzie and Hailey Briggs of Flagstaff, Hunter and Holden Ditzel of Darien, Nadine McClurg of Batavia, Dana Cipra of Pavilion, Mason and Chelsea McClurg of Oakfield, Kehla and Karis McClurg of MT. and Trevor Reimer of DE.

East Pembroke - Sharon K.  Wetzel Armstrong, 73 of East Pembroke passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

She was born Wednesday, November 26th, 1947 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Kenneth Wetzel and Annamae Carpenter Wetzel.

A 1965 graduate of Batavia High School, Sharon worked for 30 years at the New York State School for the Blind and served for 27 years as the president of the CSEA, Local 200.

Surviving are her sons, Jamie (Michelle) Armstrong of Sarasota, Florida and Jason Armstrong; her sister, Judith Wetzel of East Pembroke; eight grandchildren, Jasmine Armstrong, Rachel Armstrong, Jason Armstrong, Jr., Joshua Armstrong, Anthony (AJ) Armstrong, Peyton Armstrong, Grayson Armstrong and Jase Armstrong; her great-granddaughter, Amelia Armstrong; her beloved dog, Romeo and nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her brothers, James Wetzel and Robert Wetzel.

Matthew R. Henderson, 51 of Alexander, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. He was born January 18, 1970 in Cheektowaga, to Joanne Jones of Alexander and Richard Henderson of Akron.

Matt was the "go to guy" and was always there for everyone, even as he struggled with illness for the last five years. Matthew worked as a Master Carpenter, he loved to be busy and always used to say "give me somewhere to live, something to eat and something to do."

Along with his parents, he is survived by his daughters, Haley (Tyler) Jones of Chicago, Miranda Henderson of Blasdell, brothers, Todd Henderson of Fillmore and Christopher Jones of West Seneca.

There will be no prior calling hours and services will be held privately for the family.

Corfu - Regina A.  Hovey, age 99 of Corfu,  passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia.

Mrs.  Hovey was born Sunday, October 9th, 1921 in Cheektowaga, a daughter of the late Anthony Slominski and Gladys Sulinski Slominski.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and was very proud of her volunteer work she did at the Batavia VA Medical Center.

She is the wife of Harwood M. Hovey who passed away on June 13, 2006.

She is survived by her children, Mark Hovey of Louisiana, Patricia Epple of Batavia, Kimberly Hovey of Corfu, Kathleen Jasinski of Batavia and Julie (Tom) Madden of Georgia; her sister, Irene Yurkovic of Florida; two grandchildren, Glen (Michelle) Judd and Brett Judd; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive.

She is predeceased by her grandson Leonard A. "Jon" Jasinski, III who passed away on February 27, 2017 and her siblings; Anthony and Stanley Slominski, Pearl Tatko, Rita Boring, Wanda Tempio, Helen Best and Celia Ratulowski.

  Michael Maryniak, who inspired many people by overcoming the challenges of mental illness and achieving independent living, died September 26, 2021 after a brief illness. He was 59 and lived in Batavia.

As a teenager, Michael confronted a severe mental illness, but with the help of his family, the Buffalo Chapter of the Alliance for Mentally Ill, the Restoration Society and ACE Employment Services of Erie County, he not only overcame the disease but thrived. He was homing in on his 25^thanniversary as an employee of Fed Ex, where he earned numerous commendations for the diligence he brought to his job and where he was known as a helpful coworker. In his personal relationships, he shined and for years right up to the end was known for the greeting cards he sent to his brothers, sisters and numerous others with thoughtful little notes and humorous quips. There was not a birthday he ever forgot or a holiday he ignored as a chance to send dozens of those greetings.

Despite long odds, he achieved independent living, sharing an apartment with his longtime roommate Everett McClelland. When Everett’s life circumstances changed and he was no longer able to drive, Michael stepped up - taking him to doctor visits, church and other appointments willingly and cheerfully.

His achievements in independent living and employment made him a model success story. Though unschooled in public speaking, Michael frequently addressed ACE groups with inspirational presentations that were meant to help others dig deep within themselves for the strength and diligence to aim high and not allow themselves to be a hostage to their infirmities.

Michael was blessed with an engaging smile that reflected his own cheerful spirit, often in the face of daunting challenges. His off-beat sense of humor brought smiles to many and his hearty laugher at his siblings’ jokes was a genuine reward that made them feel like they had said the funniest thing ever.

He liked food festivals, especially the annual Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival and the Taste of Buffalo. When he wasn’t working or visiting family, Michael loved going to the movies, particularly action and comedy flicks, as well as playing the APBA Baseball game.And above all else, he was a loyal and devoted son to his parents when they were alive and to all his brothers and sisters.

Michael is survived by his sisters, Mikki (Doug) Baringer, Marge (Mike) Gaskey, Jennifer Ross and his twin, Marlene Adamski, as well as by brothers Paul (Teri), Tim (Anita) and Jim (Barb) as well as several nieces, nephews, a grandniece and a grandnephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Teresa (nee Pinkowski) Maryniak and his brother Peter.

Dustin M. Nemec, a practicing Doctor of Pharmacy, passed away on September 25, 2021 from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident.  Dustin was born on January 19, 1995 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY.  While living just 26 years, Dustin accomplished much and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends who loved him dearly.

Dustin graduated third in his class from Elba Central School in 2013.  While attending ECS, Dustin participated in football, swimming and tennis.  Dustin was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he obtained the rank of Life Scout.  While in BSA, he participated in Sporterifle and worked at Massawepei Scout Camp, in the Adirondacks, on the archery range.

Dustin attended the University at Buffalo, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.  He graduated Cum Laude, in May of 2020 with the degree of Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).  Dustin started his career as a pharmacist with Tops Friendly Markets.  Dustin loved his job and his "work family" and will be remembered for his strong work ethic and commitment to detail when dispensing medications needed to treat illness and improve quality of life.  Dustin was always considerate and kind and had a heart of gold.  His amazing smile and quick sense of humor will be especially missed.

In Dustin's spare time, he was a great enthusiast and collector of guns and loved target shooting.  Dustin was also an avid weight lifter and cyclist.

Dustin is survived by his father and mother, Edward and Karen Nemec of Elba, NY; his brother Dylan (Alexandra Foley) Nemec of Irondequoit, NY; grandparents Kenneth and Joanne Deane of Batavia, NY and many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.  He will be greatly missed by his faithful, spoiled German Shepherd dog, Dominic.

Dustin is predeceased by grandparents, Emery and Marie Nemec, and cousins, Christopher Ball and Stephanie Konfederath.

Mary Anne Metz, courageously fought a long illness and passed peacefully from this earth on September 27, 2021.

Mary Anne was born in Batavia, to the previously deceased John and Gladys (Chaya) Balbick. She is survived by her husband Ronald, son Matthew (Theresa), son Richard (Emily), daughter Stephanie (Chris Miller), grandchildren Eleanor, Garrett and Levi. Mary Anne is the sister of Robert (Jane) Balbick, Elizabeth (Derek) Genesky and Nancy (Ed Schichtel) Balbick.

Mary Anne graduated from Rosary Hill College and University of Buffalo. She held teaching and library positions at a number of schools, retiring from Attica High School as the Library Media Specialist. Mary Anne loved golf, biking, sporting events and most importantly spending time with her family. Her many hobbies included photography, knitting and sewing, cooking, gardening and reading.

  James Thomas Fryer, age 81, of Batavia died peacefully Thursday September 16, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on September 11, 1940 in Batavia to the late Irving and Florence Fryer. James is preceded in death by his siblings; Gloria Dilcher, Geraldine Kasmarek, Irving Fryer; daughter and son-in-law Jeannie (Randy) Godlove.

James served his country with the United States Air Force. He worked for many years at Trojan (Eaton Yale & Towne). James loved to golf and go bowling with friends and family. He also spent his spare time with family working on stock cars.

He is survived by Sandy Dellapenna, Robert (Elizabeth) Fryer; daughters Annette Mazur, Anna Marie “Mia” Mogavero and Tammy Stevens; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

  Alfred E. Higgins, 82, of Oakfield passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021 at the United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on March 18, 1939 in Medina to Eileen Casper and step-father Lester Casper. Alfred is also predeceased by his brothers; Leroy (Deborah) and Ronald Higgins.

Alfred was a Heavy Equipment Operator for Lester John’s Inc. for many years and also AD Call in Stafford. He loved to hunt, watch football and was a big NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; Beverly (Chamberlain) Higgins of Oakfield; a son Jeffrey Higgins of Oakfield; brother Charles (Diane) Higgins of Albion; along with many nieces and nephews.

Alfred Angelo Panepinto, 64, of Batavia, passed away on September 23, 2021 at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo surrounded by his family and friends.

Alfred was born December 12, 1956 in Batavia, a son of the late Alfred A. Panepinto, Sr. and Edna Miller.

Alfred loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his precious granddaughter, Avaya.  He was a longtime member of Godfrey's Pond and enjoyed music.

Surviving are his fiancée, Barbara Johnson of Batavia; children, Josie Rose Panepinto of Batavia, Nicole (fiancée Macy Paradise) Johnson of Elba and Austin Johnson of Batavia; grandchildren, Avaya C. Panepinto, Conlan Johnson and Shayley Johnson; his loving aunt, Dolores Gaeta of Detroit, MI and cousins.

Batavia - Patricia L.  Fee, age 93 of Batavia passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Gateway Home in Attica.

She was born on March 27, 1928 in Smithport, Pennsylvania a daughter of the late Clayton and Ruth Miller Scott.

A member of St. Joseph's Church in Batavia and a former member of the Batavia Lioness Club, she worked for many years as a lunch aide in the Batavia School District. 

Patricia is the wife of John H. “Jack” Fee who passed away on January 25, 2013 and mother of the late David C. Fee who passed away on January 24, 2017.   

Surviving are her children; Michael (Delores) of Greece, Gregory Fee  of Mesa, Arizona,  Kathy Smith  of Huntington Beach, California and Colleen (William) Wassink  of Batavia, New York, ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There are no prior visiting hours. Laura Ruth Warren, 93, of Bergen passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport.

 Mrs. Warren was born on February 5, 1928 in Batavia, to the late A. Sidney and Mildred (Cotton) Pratt.  She was married to her loving husband Augustus C. Warren who passed away in 2014.

 Laura worked for many years as Head Seamstress for C.L Carr Co. in Batavia, NY.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.  Laura and Gus were Caretakers at Godfreys Pond for many years.

 She is survived by her children, Gary (Dana) Warren of Batavia, Kathie (Richard) Holzschuh of Brockport, David (Kelly) Warren of Bergen, and Wendy (Benjamin) Ritzenthaler of Shortsville, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Annette Warren, her sister Barbara Magel of Auburn and several nieces and nephews.

 She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Warren, siblings: Leslie Pratt, Maryann Waasdorp and Helen Rosocoff.

     Dean M. Sehm Jr., 62, formerly of LeRoy, NY passed away at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Arizona on Sept. 17,2021 after a battle with COVID.  He was predeceased by his parents, Dean and Maybelle Sehm.

    

 Dean was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.  He worked for Ryder Trucking as a Senior Manager in charge of P M Optimization.  Dean enjoyed shooting, hunting, fishing, classic cars and driving his corvette.  He was very active with the Christ Presbyterian Church and served as head usher.

     Dean is survived by his wife, Sheri; two sons, Dean III (Kimberly) Sehm of AZ and Robert (Yessica) Sehm of AZ; step-daughter, Kadi Heekin; 7 grandchildren, Meredith, Dean IV, Ava, Alexander, Jeremy, Julian and Samuel; brother, Darryl Sehm of LeRoy; sister, Cheryl Lead (Larry Koester) of Perry; nieces, Amy and Crystal; nephew, Darryl; many great nieces, great nephews and always cherished, Karen, Matthew and Nikki Clark of NY.

Lorraine F. Siuta Hough, 75, of Waxhaw, NC, passed away on Thursday, (August 26, 2021). Until 2017 Lorraine had been a lifelong resident of Genesee County she spent the last 4 years in North Carolina with her daughter and family after the passing of her beloved husband, Douglas A. Hough.

Lorraine was born August 3, 1946 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Edward and Rose (Pirro) Siuta.

Lorraine retired from United Memorial Medical Center where she worked in the ambulatory surgery department. Before that, while her daughter was in school she worked part time at Alexander Central School as a cashier in the lunch room. She was well loved by the kids. Lorraine was a lifelong member of Batavia Assembly of God church and very involved in many programs at the church during her years there. She served her church in many ways; for many years she taught Sunday school, ran the Missionettes girls club, helped run the Sunday school dept, and sang in the church choir. When she moved to NC, she joined Zamar Church in Lancaster, SC and made many new friends these last 4 years. When the doors were open, she was there. She served the Lord her whole life and loved his church and his people. Always active she was part of a “neighborhood” ladies bible study as well.  

She is survived by her daughter, Lynne (Scott) Herr of Waxhaw, NC, her grandson Noah Herr of Waxhaw. Her brother, Raymond (Deborah) Siuta of Wyoming, NY. Her stepdaughter Sarah VanPragg of Albany, NY. Nephews Ray (Lisa) Siuta and Erik (Ashley) Siuta; 2 great-nieces Ella and Maddie Siuta and 2 step grandsons Devin and Reilly Van Pragg. Brothers-in-law Henry Hough, Paul (Dawn) Hough; sisters-in-law Donna Hough, Rosemary Nobles, Stella Howe, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Douglas A. Hough and her sister Doris A. Siuta.

Family and Friends may call on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street in Batavia. Lorraine's Funeral Service will be held Thursday (September 30, 2021) at 10:30 a.m. at Batavia Assembly of God, 24 North Spruce Street in Batavia. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Batavia.
