Douglas M. Burg, 79, of Orangeville, passed away Monday December 6, 2021 at Wyoming County Community Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. He was born in Warsaw, NY on June 7, 1942 a son of the late George and Mabel (Bowen) Burg.

Doug was a dairy farmer, worked at the Attica Westinghouse Foundry, and Hidden Valley Animal Adventure in Varysburg. He enjoyed all things outdoors: hunting, fishing, and gardening. He especially loved going to auctions and finding great deals.  

Douglas is predeceased by his sister Marlene Norton, brother Roger Burg, and half-brothers Richard and Norman Moultrup.

Survivors include son Jacob (Sumiko) Burg of East Amherst, brother David Burg of Attica, loving companion Evelyn Zeitz of Lockport, grandchildren Julia and Leo, and many nieces and nephews.

Batavia ~ Linda L. Kelley, age 69, of West Main Street Road, passed away Monday morning (Dec. 6, 2021) at the Buffalo Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

  

   She was born March 1, 1952 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Patricia Johnson Kelley.

     Linda will be remembered as a kind and loving person, who cared deeply for her family and her pets.  She enjoyed gardening, watching soap operas, listening to gospel and country music and had a passion for butterflies.  In her younger years, she loved to dance and spend time with her father hunting.

     She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Mellisa McClurg of Warsaw; her son, Donald McClurg of Batavia; her siblings, Benjamin (Cathy Jo) Kelley of Idaho, Kathy Nevinger of Alexander and Scott (Becky) Kelley of Batavia; her loving feline companion, "Kitty", along with her nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by her sister, Suzanne Ramsey and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Nevinger.

Rochester - Joan K. Bell, 71 of Rochester passed away on Monday, (November 29, 2021) at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Rochester.

Ms. Bell was born June 23, 1950 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Anthony and Jean (Sinaguglia) Marini.

Joan worked for many years as a paralegal with the New York State Appellate Court in Rochester.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Christopher Hecht) Bell of Rochester; grandchildren, Richard and Anjalia Bell; a brother, Adam Marini of Rochester; sisters, Linda Barr, Karen Marsh, and Tina (Neil) Jacobs all of Rochester; a godson, Anthony Marsh of Rochester; god daughters, Michelle (Mike) Dixon of Woodlands, Texas, and Alicia Otis of Rochester. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Joan is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Marini.

Mary Anne Higgs, 80, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mary Anne was born December 2, 1941 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Wallace and Meta (Kessler) Kornow.

Mary Anne enjoyed the activities at the Monsignor Kirby Apartments with the other residents.

Surviving are her children, Scott Higgs of Virginia Beach, VA, Lori Hammon of Bergen, Ken (Tina) Higgs of Ontario, NY and Rick Lapa of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Wallace (Tina) Kornow of Oakfield, six grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne Higgs and brother, Wayne Kornow.

There are no prior calling hours and services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Barbara Schum Mazur 84, of Batavia passed away Monday December 6, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital. She was born September 18, 1937 in Brockport, NY; a daughter of the late Maynard J. Schum Sr. and Evelyn (Meyers) Schum. In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by a brother Maynard J. Schum Jr., sister Nancy Schum Nowry, and grandson Glen William Kruger.

A graduate of Attica High School, Barbara was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Batavia, NY. She worked as a telephone operator for The New York Telephone Company where she met her adoring husband. She retired from Tops Friendly Markets in 1995. Barbara will always and forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was always selfless and forever thinking of others, especially her family, whom she loved so much and always put their needs above hers. Barb loved reading, baking, watching sports, and crossword puzzles. She truly lived for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 64 years, Richard F. Mazur of Batavia, loving children, Susan (Jerry) Mazur Fortunato of Endicott, NY, Janet (Dave) Lambert of Leroy, Randall (Ann) Mazur of Indian Land, SC, Nancy (Nicholas) Ficarella of Churchville, NY, Diane (Larry) Hale of Batavia, Bradley (Lisa) Mazur of Batavia, and Andrew (Deanna) Mazur of Murfresboro, TN. She is also survived by her adoring eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Barbara is survived by a sister in law Rose (Gerald) Sheelar of Malone NY, brother in law Leonard Nowry of Jacksonville FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Pavilion ~ Nancy A. Cutcliffe, age 89, passed away December 5, 2021.

   

  Nancy was born November 14, 1932, a daughter of the late Milton and Kathleen Whaley.  She was raised in Pearl Creek and married Edward Cutcliffe on June 16, 1951.  Edward and Nancy raised nine children. 

     She was a loving wife, mother and friend; attending all her children's sporting events cheering loudly.  She supported her family in all their endeavors.  Never one to sit still, she took up golf, learned to play bridge, loved to read and visit with family and friends, but what she loved most was Sunday morning coffee.

     In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her grandson, Kurt Kingsley, her sister, Mary "Mamie" Fay and brother, Thomas Whaley.

     She is survived by loving husband and caregiver, Edward; her nine children; Jo (David) Milligan, James (Marj) Cutcliffe, Susan Kingsley, Cathy (Doug) Cerefin, Mark Cutcliffe, Mike Cutcliffe, David (Laurie) Cutcliffe, Karen (Tom) Jeffres and Kristin (Timothy) Hoffmeister; her sisters, Peg Smith and Linda Dierks; brother, William (Sonia) Whaley; sister-in-law, Rosemary Whaley and brother-in-law, Donald (Mary) Cutcliffe; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and more nieces and nephews than we can count.

     Nancy was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church in Pavilion and worked many years at the Pavilion State Bank and later, Broughton Insurance.

     She was a lifelong Pavilion Sports Fan and was the #1 fan of all her children and grandchildren's sporting events.  Therefore, contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to the "Pavilion Sports Boosters", c/o Pavilion Central School, 7014 Big Tree Road, Pavilion, N.Y. 14525.

Robert LaVerne Easton, "Butch", 74 of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 3, 2021.

Butch was born April 9, 1947 in Batavia, the son of the late LaVerne and Eleanor Easton of Batavia.

Butch was an employee of Chapin Manufacturing for 38 years until he retired.  Butch enjoyed airplanes, fishing, hunting, auto racing and assembling models.  Butch served with the Army during the Vietnam War.

Butch is survived by his daughters, Shirley (Jake) Sands of North Carolina and Tammy Rudnicki of Akron; four grandchildren, Hannah Sands, Jacob Sands Jr., Alyssa Sands and Tyler Easton and one great-granddaughter, Iris Frausto.  Butch is also survived by his two sisters, Annette Lewis of Medina and Kay Cook of Tennessee.

There are no prior calling hours.  Butch's service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia.

Batavia ~ Verna R. Mullin, age 89, of Richmond Avenue, passed away early Saturday morning (December 4, 2021) at the Erie County Medical Center.

     She was born December 10, 1931 in Bennington, a daughter of the late Raymond and Petronella Beller Schad.

     Verna will be lovingly remembered for her devotion to her family, her caring of others, long-term relationships and her gaming attitude.  Her career as a registered nurse spanned many years.  She was the pediatric head nurse at St. Jerome Hospital and the night supervisor at the Genesee County Nursing Home.  She was also a faithful Roman Catholic Christian member of Resurrection Parish of Batavia.

     She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, David Mullin (2001); her sister, Geraldine Hartman and brother, Lawrence Schad.

     Verna is survived by her children, Deborah Hohl, David (Sandra) Mullin, JoAnn (Thomas) Christensen and Jeffrey (Vicky) Mullin; her brother, Lester Schad; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     Family and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.

Stafford - Yvonne T.  Youll, 96 of Stafford passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Youll was born Thursday, July 16th, 1925, in Hornell, New York a daughter of the late Stanley Hall and Maria LaLoire Hall. 

A member of St. Joseph's Church, she enjoyed going to yard sales and doing word search puzzles. She loved her pets, especially her cats and had a deep devotion for her family.

She is predeceased by her husband, Richard D. Youll, Sr. who passed away on March 29, 2002, her son, Daniel Youll who passed away on December 17, 2015, brothers, Charles Hall who was killed in action during World War II, Stanley Hall, sisters, Jacqueline Hawkins, Genevieve Griswold and her twin sister Bernadette Lewis. 

Surviving are her sons, Richard D. (Polly) Youll, Jr. of Rochester, Barry J. Youll of Rochester, Charles Youll of Rochester and Robert Youll of Stafford; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive.

LeRoy ~ Ann C. Ehrhart, age 81, of Hilltop Drive, passed away at home unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

    

She was born May 31, 1940 in Coudersport, PA, a daughter of the late Alvin and Helen Brown Thompson.

     Ann will be remembered for her deep love and devotion to her family, her faith and her community.  She had an extensive teaching career at LeRoy Central High School, teaching Latin and became known as the “magistra”.  Ann enjoyed baking, was a voracious reader and loved meeting up with her friends at McDonalds for coffee hour.

     She will be sadly missed by her husband, David Ehrhart Sr.; her children, Colleen (Michael) Antonio, Christine (William) Perrin and Timothy (Erika) Looney; step-children, David Ehrhart Jr., Douglas (Jackie) Ehrhart, Dale (Dawn) Ehrhart and Deborah Ehrhart; sister, Mary (Tom) Juerm; sister-in-law, Christine Thompson, along with grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dear friends and her loving and devoted feline companions, Lokie and Franklin.

     In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by her brother, Michael Thompson and granddaughter, Cassandra Perrin.

Donald H. Smith, 70, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, November 25, 2021, surrounded by his family.

Don was born on December 6, 1950, in Batavia, a son of the late Daniel and Margaret  Schultz Smith. He was the brother of the late Susan, Mary, Pearl and Daniel Smith.

Don served in the United States Army and retired from CSX Railroad. He was a life member of the Pembroke Fire Department. Some of Don’s favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, weekends at camp, bowling, softball and watching the Bills. He especially loved family gatherings and parties and taking the grandchildren to school and attending all their sporting events.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Debbie Harlach Smith; three children; Mike (Amy) Smith, Kim (John) Senko and Tyler (Amanda) Smith; nine grandchildren: Cody (Dez) and Trent (Scout) Smith, Kendall (Brad), Lilly, Tanner, Cooper and Mary Senko, Holly and Madison Smith; three great grandchildren; Lakelyn, Josh and Everly; brothers; Arthur (Patty), William (Charlotte), Robert (Dorothy), Earl (late Harriet) and Kevin (Bonnie) Smith; sisters; Sandra (Glen) Martin and Laureen Smith.
Many nieces and nephews also survive.

David Lawrence Brooks, better known as Papa David in the Oakfield-Alabama athletic community, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters on Tuesday, November 30th. One of nine children, he was the baby of the family. He was born on his mother’s birthday, September 21st, 1941 to Bernard and Winfred Brooks and welcomed home by siblings; Bernard, Betty, Lucille, Dick, Bobby, Mary, Ester, and Margaret in Buffalo, NY.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis, who he married in 1967. Shortly after, they welcomed four daughters; Tammy (Mark) Cassidy, Dawn (Todd) Wheeler, Kelly Brooks, and Amy Brooks (Louis Gray) who they raised in Alabama, NY. He will be greatly missed by his brother in law, Stanley Popek, grandchildren; Erica, Jenni, Kelsey, Jordan, Justin, Jamie, Matthew, Megan, and great-grandchildren; Abby, Avery, Lila, Connor, and Olive. The root of our family tree, he loved and supported us all, bailing us out with minimal judgement no matter how badly we had screwed up.

He was an Air Force Veteran and retiree of Harrison Radiator in Lockport NY, a proud member of UAW 686. He was a lifelong supporter of the Buffalo Bills- in good times and bad. He was also a huge supporter of Oakfield-Alabama-Elba Football, as well as Oakfield -Alabama and GCC Softball Teams. He was well known among the teams and their families, considering himself their #1 Fan.

Friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of David’s life on Sunday, December 5th at 12 Noon at Caryville Inn, 25 Main St Oakfield. We are asking that everyone wear your best Buffalo Bills or Oakfield-Alabama-Elba Apparel.

Stafford - David J.  Bridge, age 84 of Stafford passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mr. Bridge was born Thursday, September 16th, 1937 in Batavia, New York a son of the late Rudolph Richenberg and Dorothea Bridge Burroughs.

Mr. & Mrs. Bridge were the former owners and proprietors of Bridge's Cottage Motel in Sylvan Beach. He owned a hunting camp in Canisteo where he would enjoy hunting, snowmobiling at Tug Hill and the many weekends that were spent at Black Lake. In his later years, he and his wife traveled extensively visiting Alaska and Greece amongst other destinations.  He enjoyed puttering around in his garage and visiting family in the south.

David is the husband of Elfrieda G. Humel Bridge who passed away on October 15, 2021.

Surviving are his sons, Mark (Katie) Bridge, James (Karen) Bridge and Randy (Irene) Bridge; four grandchildren, Jessica (Garrett) Tarnowski, Justin (Nicole) Bridge, Alexis (Josh) Armstrong and Matthew (Madelyn) Bridge; four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Randy L. Helmer, age 64 of Castile, NY passed away on Monday November 29, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.  He was born on January 27, 1957 in Warsaw, NY to the late Donald A. and Violet M. (Knox) Helmer

Randy retired from the Rochester Laborer’s Union Local #435. After he retired he went back to work for a few years at Cidec in Batavia.  He was a member of the Castile Fire Department. Randy enjoyed hunting, riding his Harley, spending time with his family and friends, and was always willing to help out anyone in need whether it was mowing a yard or clearing out a driveway.

He is survived by his wife: Leilani (Smith) whom he married on September 13, 1986, son: Travis (Erin Tetreault) of Castile, grandchildren: Chesney, Brystol and Kade, sister: Ellie Marble of Fl., brothers: James (Christine) of Fl., David (Cindy) of Warsaw, Kevin of Buffalo, sister-in-laws: Dana (David) Wright of Pike, Cindy (Angelo) Feroleto of Castile, Cheryl (Robert) Bush of Geneseo, brother-in-law: Gordon Smith of Perry, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his son: Ryan M. Helmer who passed on Dec. 17, 2013, sister: Cindy Helmer, brother and sister-in-law: Steven (Susan) Helmer and sister-in-law: Loretta Helmer, niece: Riley Jo Helmer and nephew: Jared Bush.

Batavia - Linda M.  Doody, 73 of Batavia passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

She was born Monday, May 3rd, 1948 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Joseph P. Caruso Sr. and Rose Merica Caruso.

A 1966 graduate of Notre Dame High School, Linda was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Batavia. She worked for many years as a lunch aide at John Kennedy School and Robert Morris School and with her daughters at Center Stage Dance Company for fifteen years. She will be remembered by her family as being selfless, always putting others' needs ahead of hers. She was happiest when she was with her family or in attendance at a school play, dance recital, sporting event or school concert. She lived for her family and her grandchildren.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 50 years, Edward R. Doody of Batavia; loving children, Edward Doody Jr. of Pavilion, Patti (Jose) Arroyo and Lisa (Sam) Antinore, both of Batavia; seven grandchildren; Christopher Doody, Jay Antinore, Zoey Arroyo, Mazey Arroyo, Chase Antinore, Brody Arroyo and Jaxon Arroyo; her brothers, Anthony (Bonnie) Caruso and Joseph P. (Debbie) Caruso Jr., both of Batavia, New York and nieces and nephews.
