Jason C. Murphy

In Loving Memory of Jason C. Murphy, age 49 of Lawrence, Kan. Jason passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on March 22, 2017. Jason battled esophageal cancer with inspirational determination for 8 months.

Jason was born on September 17, 1967 in Rochester, New York to the late George C. Murphy and Joy Cafaro Murphy. He was a graduate of the University of Buffalo.

Jason was a loving husband and devoted father to his daughters. He was employed by Hill’s Pet Nutrition. When not at work, Jason most enjoyed cooking. He was the quintessential host. He was popular among his daughters’ friends because he would drop everything to provide anything from warm muffins at 6 a.m. to full meals. Linguini and clam sauce was the house specialty.

Jason is survived by his wife Michelle Pask Murphy, daughters Madison Murphy and Catherine Murphy, of Lawrence, Kan. One sister, Nancy Kingsley, of Fairport, NY. Mother and father-in-law Barbara and Michael Strollo, of Florida. Brothers and sisters in law: Michael Pask, of Basom, Denise Pask, of Batavia, David (Karen) Strollo, of Virginia, Jason (Jessica) Lawrence, of Attica, Jamie (Jon) Hoca, of Batavia. Several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories at an Open House style Celebration of Life Service on Monday, April 3 at The Rochester Club West @ Bohn’s 5256 Clinton Street Road, Batavia, NY 14020. 6 – 9 p.m.

TONI A. (BUCK) DIXON

TONI A. (BUCK) DIXON ~ Batavia

Age 64,  died peacefully Tuesday March 28, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center with her loving family at her side. She was born September 4, 1954 in Batavia, NY to the late Walter D. Buck and the late Mary Ann (Palone) Urtel also preceded in death by her brother, Walter M. Buck.

Toni was a hairstylist for many years and most recently for Steve's Styles in Batavia. She was an incredible cook, enjoyed baking, but most of all was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her lifetime companion, Mark Mosco of Batavia; her loving children, Lori (Ray Feldman) Keech of Stafford, Krista Quigley of NC and Mark D. Mosco of Batavia; beloved grandchildren, Leeann (Ron), Michael (Sarah), Ryan, Nicholas & Breanna; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Aria; siblings, Dale A. (Pat) Buck of Oakfield, Janice L. (Tim) Forster of Dayton, NY, Carol (Brian) Benedict of Rochester, Paul Urtel of Rochester and Carrie (Randy) Reiser of Darien; step-mother, Betty Buck of Batavia along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Toni's family will be present from 2 - 4 pm on Thursday March 30 at the MICHAEL S. Marsha K. Jacobs

Marsha K. Jacobs, a school teacher and animal lover died on Thursday, March 23rd, 2017 at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Baltimore. She was 75.

She was a schoolteacher for 46 years, 38 of those years at the John Kennedy School in Batavia. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going on family vacations and watching the ocean roll in for hours.

She is survived by: her sister Jain Trader, of Owings Mills, Md.; cousin and goddaughter Wendy Civiletto, her husband, George, and their children, Olivia and Kevin, of Fredonia NY; niece Marcy Trader and husband, Stuart Schwartz; nephew Travis Trader, his wife, Shawna, and their children, Harper and Sawyer; nephew Jason Trader, his wife, Cybill, and children Jimmy and Rebekah; her furry friends Greta, Eva and Ms. Kitty.

A celebration of life gathering will be held in Batavia in the near future, burial private.

Josephine A. Cervone

Batavia - Josephine A. Cervone, 93, of Batavia, passed away Tuesday, (March 28, 2017) at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy.

Ms. Cervone was born August 19, 1923 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Peter and Amelia (VanDetta) Cervone.

A devout Catholic, she was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church in Batavia.  Josephine began her working career at Grahams before moving to The Smart Shop and finally working 45 years at G.T.E Sylvania.  She loved people and animals.   

Surviving are her nephews, Peter Cervone of Shelby, Dominic Cervone, Jr. of Batavia, Ronald (Ann) Cervone of Oakfield; and a niece, Donna (Maney) Neth of Holley. 

Josephine is preceded in death by her siblings, Laura Sinibaldi, Irene (late Jimmy) Emmi, Blanche (late Nick) Ricci, Lousie (late Anthony) Martino, Mary Cervone, and Dominic (late Nancy) Cervone. 

There will be no prior visitation.  Family and friends are invited to Josephine’s Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 AM on Thursday at Ascension Parish, 15 Sumner Street, Batavia.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesee Cancer Assistance, Inc., c/o UMMC, 127 North Street, Batavia, NY 14020.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia or at www.geneseecancerassistance.com/donate.

Marsha K Jacobs, a school teacher and animal lover died on Thursday March 23rd at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Baltimore. She was 75.

Richard "Dick" E. Ehrhart

LeRoy ~ Peacefully and with his loving family surrounding him; Dick Ehrhart, age 70, passed away into the arms of his loving parents Saturday evening (March 25, 2017) at Crossroads House in Batavia.

   

 He was born June 1, 1946 in Batavia, a son of the late Stewart and Matilda (Jean) Pendergast Ehrhart.

    Dick was very special to his family.  He loved to come home to share holidays and special family times; he especially enjoyed his birthday celebrations. He had a love for all animals and was intrigued by watches and cameras, of which he had a small collection.  He also took pleasure in traveling.

    He is survived by his siblings; James (Joe) Ehrhart of CA, David (Ann) Ehrhart of LeRoy, Sharon Hyde of KS, Mary Connolly of Batavia and Margaret (Ron) DeBellis of Stafford, his DDSO family, along with many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Judy (Joe) Bovenzi, Linda (Rino) Cianci and Karen (George) Smith, sister in law, Diane Ehrhart and brothers in law, Bernard Hyde and Allan Connolly.

  Family and friends are invited to attend Richard’s Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy.  At the conclusion, the family will receive friends at the LeRoy Country Club, where a Celebration of Richard's Life will continue with a reception and sharing of memories. Interment in the Leicester Cemetery will be private.

Marilyn J. Winegar

Marilyn J. Winegar, 83 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 23, 2017 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born April 9, 1933 in Batavia, to the late Albert (Marie Rider) Hale. Marilyn is preceded in death by husband Robert Winegar, siblings Edward, William Hale and Betty J. Smith; nephew David Kelsey.

Marilyn spent 48 years working for C.L. Carr Company in Batavia and most of those years were spent as the head of the Children’s Department. She was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish. Marilyn enjoyed reading, bingo and most of all being with her family.   

She is survived by nieces and nephews Robert (Sue) Smith of Batavia; Betsey Kelsey of E. Bethany; Beckey (Jeff) Long of Batavia; Pamela (Robert) Denny of Oakfield; Bruce (Ruth) Smith of Batavia; Barbara Kubala of Attica; Rick (Joan) Hale of E. Bethany; Renee Hirsh of California; Roxanne (Bob) Winegar of Batavia, Laurel Winegar and Marcia Rickettson, along with many great, great-great nieces and nephews.

Joseph C. Wenzel Jr.

Joseph C. Wenzel Jr., 59 of Batavia, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Thursday March 23, 2017 at home. He was born on May 21, 1957, in Batavia to Joseph C. (the late Dorothy M. Lenhard) Wenzel Sr. of Batavia. Joe is preceded in death by siblings Mary Francis and Jonathan Wenzel.   

Joe was an avid outdoorsman and loved his pheasant farm. He enjoyed working on cars and being with his family.

He is survived by his children Joseph C. Wenzel III of SC; Matthew (Kody); Stanley both of Batavia; Stephen of PA; Nicole of NYC; Timothy, Melissa Wenzel both of Batavia; siblings Joan Szatkowski, Sharon (Dean Cadieux) Lyke, Jimmy (Stephany) Wenzel, Jeffrey (JoAnn) Wenzel, Jennifer (Ross) Jarvela, JodiAnn (Jim) Battistella, Jolene Morales, Heidi Schollard, Karen (Larry) Corp; 4 grandchildren along with 24 nieces and nephews.

Joseph D. Snyder

Joseph D. Snyder, 68 of Alexander, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters, on Wednesday March 8, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born January 3, 1949 in Batavia, to the late Casper “Jim” (Josephine Hendricks) Snyder. The youngest of seven, Joe is preceded in death by siblings David, Norman (Elsie) Snyder; brothers-in-law Joseph Mazur and Chuck Hephner.

Joe was a man who loved God. He was a carpenter, mechanic and a collector. Joe enjoyed singing, theatre and Jeopardy. A student of Organic Gardening in the 70’s, he planted fruit trees and tried his hand at tree-grafting. There is a tree in Alexander to this day which literally bears two different kinds of fruit! His passions were Civil War history and Biblical theology. He desired healing for holocaust victims. In life and in death, he was devoted to his children and his large, life-loving Snyder family. He is deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughters Kayla Silvernail of Batavia; Jennifer Snyder of Columbia, MD; Julie (Johnny) Zook of Halifax, PA; siblings Joanne Mazur of Attica; Edward (Linda) Snyder of Attica; Kathleen Hephner of Alexander; Dan (Rae) Snyder of East Bethany; sister-in-law Catherine Snyder of Cowlesville, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

NANCY T. CINA

NANCY T. CINA ~ Batavia

Age 77, died peacefully Tuesday morning March 21, 2017 at PremierGenesee Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was born May 25, 1939 in Albion, NY, daughter of the late Edmund "Chuck" and Frances (Daniels) Bielinski.   

Mrs. Cina went to work at the Eastman Kodak Co. out of high school, spent a short time at the former Sylvania and then owned and operated the Smart n Sassy Shop in the Genesee Country Mall until 1981. Nancy spent some time at home raising her children and then returned to Kodak from which she finally retired. She was always active, had a keen eye for decorating, avid collector of Hall Tea Pots & antiques, loved to play Bingo and cards and was a religious education teacher for many years at the former St. Anthony's. Nancy and Dick enjoyed spending winters in Florida since 1999 and will be remembered as a fantastic cook and a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. 

Surviving is her beloved husband whom she married September 16, 1961, Richard S. Cina, Sr. of Batavia; loving children, Clark Cina of Batavia, Richard S. (Kimberly) Cina, Jr. of Churchville, Timothy (Tina) Cina of Scottsville and Christine (Ray) Hernandez of Harrisburg, NC; brother, Roland (Frances) Bielinski of FL; cousins, Daniel (Deborah) Radzinksi of Spencerport, Ronald (Pauline) Radzinski of Albion, Bonnie (late Kenneth) Kaniecki of Albion and Roger (late Sue) Kaniecki of Albion; 7 grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, Rebecca & Charles Cina, Richard, Jessica & Eric Hernandez; 2 great-grandchildren, Samuel Hernandez and Emmanuel Cina.

Ricky L. Slusser

Ricky L. Slusser , Age 62, of Perry  passed away on March 18, 2017. He was born in Warsaw, NY on March 24, 1954 to the late Paul and Elizabeth Jean (Casselberry) Slusser. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cathy A. (Breeser) Slusser. This year would have marked 44 years of marriage. Along with his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Robert “Mickey” and James Slusser

Rick worked for Perry Central School for 20 plus years. He was an avid hunter and motorcycle enthusiast.

He leaves behind two sons; James (Christina Briggs) Slusser and David (Keri) Slusser; Four grandchildren, Austin, Alexander, Tehya, and Alexis Slusser; Two sisters Kathy Salada and Sue Andrews; One brother Paul “Butch” (Kathy) Slusser; One step sister Kim Collings; Three step brothers: Ernie (Linda) Collings, Rusty (Judy) Collings, and Keith (Charlene) Collings. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and his best friend and loyal companion, his golden retriever, “Jake”.

Family and friends may call from 12:00-4:00PM on Sunday March 26, 2017 at the Perry Fireman's Building on Lake St. at the Perry Park where a celebration of Rick's life will be held. Food will be served, casual dress please.

MARCIA M. MICHALAK

MARCIA M. MICHALAK ~ Batavia

Age 58, died Saturday morning March 18, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born October 10, 1958 in Batavia, NY to the late Harold and Irene (Moscicki) Michalak also was preceded in death by her companion, Gerald "Korky" Korkowicz. 

Marcia was a faithful member of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in Clarence for many years. As her health declined Marcia was a resident of the Genesee County Nursing Home where she was a social butterfly and remained very active. She was on the Resident Council, front desk receptionist on weekends, worked in the store and attended many on-site activities. Marcia enjoyed crocheting, Bingo, word search and crossword puzzles but most of all being around people, she cherished the visits, letters and cards received from family and friends throughout her stay. 

Surviving are her loving siblings, Ronald (Barb) Michalak of CA, Deborah (Paul) Rich of Medina, Kenneth Michalak of Buffalo; aunts, Esther Moscicki and Rose Jacques; nieces and nephews, Crystal & Adam of CA, Lauren of Depew, Megan of Buffalo, Sarah of Cheektowaga and Andrew of Buffalo.

Raymond F. Patnode, Jr.

Clarendon/Batavia - Raymond F. Patnode, Jr., 68, of Clarendon, formerly of Batavia, a machinist at Strong Forge & Fabrication, LLC in Batavia, died Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.

Ray was born June 3, 1948 in Rochester, a son of the late Raymond F. Patnode, Sr. and Marie (Telfer) Farrington.

He was an avid camper and member of Red Rock Ponds in Hulberton, NY.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara J.  (Doyle) Patnode, whom he married August 13, 1977; 2 sons, Raymond F. (Anna) Patnode, III of Batavia and James R. Patnode of Warsaw; a daughter, Christina M. (Tom) Theis of MD; 4 siblings, Francis R. (Sue) Patnode of Plattsburgh, Linda (Albert) Gibbs of Alexander, Gary (Cindy) Patnode of Basom and JoAnne Hart of Stafford; an aunt, Lucile Telfer of Rochester; a sister-in-law, Mary Doyle of E. Aurora; 2 brothers-in-law, Edward (Sue) Doyle of Palmyra and  John (Patty) Doyle of Elma; mother-in-law, Ann (late Gene) Doyle of E. Aurora; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was the brother of the late Warren Patnode and Judy Patnode and brother-in-law of the late Robert Doyle.   

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Russell P. Cessna Jr.

Russell P. Cessna Jr., 29 passed away unexpectedly on Thursday March 16, 2017. He was born November 17, 1987 in Batavia, to Mary (Ken) Falker of Corfu and the late Russell P. Cessna Sr. Russ is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Everett Rutherford, paternal grandfather Russell O. Cessna, soul mate Tessacca Tundo.

Russell Paul, known as “Pauly” by his aunt Sarah and grandma Rita, loved to read and enjoyed playing guitar. Everyone will remember Russ for his sense of humor and making everyone laugh. He enjoyed hunting, four wheeling and taking his daughter fishing. He was one of 12 out of hundreds of applicants selected for Cornell’s CPEP program and excelled at it. As a memorial please reach out to a youth whom is struggling so their path may be eased from some of the distress.

He is survived by his daughter Natalia Rayne Cessna of Kentucky; sister Heather (Frank) Demmer of Batavia; step-brothers Andrew Falker of Akron; Ben Falker of Corfu; maternal grandmother Rita Mallison of Batavia; paternal grandmother Elizabeth Cessna of East Bethany; along with many aunts, uncles & cousins.

Robert B. Adams

Elba - Robert B. Adams, 82, of Elba, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Batavia while under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Mr. Adams was born January 18, 1935 in Elba, a son of the late Burtie and Gladys (Judd) Adams.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite “Midge” (Buck) Adams, whom he married January 9, 1954; his children; Nora Adams of Batavia, Robert C. (Mary Jo Ryan) Adams of Odenton, Maryland and the late Paul Adams who passed away in 2008; his grandchildren, Cale Rice of Batavia, Heather (Rob) Burns of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Rachael (Daniel) Kelly of Columbia, Maryland; five great-grandchildren, Ben and  Emily Burns and Corinne, Alanna and Fiona Kelly; his sister-in-law, Betty (late Walter) Buck of Stafford and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother, Charles Adams and his sister, Joyce West.
