Richard Charles (Dick) Holbrook went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2020. He was born on February 13, 1928 to Esther Rose Stumm and Louis Henry Holbrook in Buffalo, N.Y.

Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, dairy farmer, genealogist, and WWII veteran.

After graduating early from Attica High School, Dick enlisted in the US Navy in March 1946. He served in the Navy Air Corps Group VA 9V as 3rd Class Petty Officer on the USS Philippine Sea as rear gunman on SB2C Helldiver aircraft. Following his return, he met Shirley Thelma West, who was working as a bank teller in Attica. They married June 9, 1951 and celebrated 67 years of marriage at the time of her passing on June 21, 2018. Dick was a dairy farmer in Orangeville for many years then worked as a supervisor at the Attica prison farm.

Dick is preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley Thelma Holbrook, mother Esther Rose Underwood, and father Louis Holbrook.

Dick is survived by his son John (Terry) Holbrook of Sykesville, MD; daughter Janet (Robert) Monaco of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Lindsey (Andrew) Delis, Phillip (Amanda) Holbrook, Christine, Jialing, and Ryan Monaco; great-grandchildren Benjamin and Eleni Delis; brother Roger (Trish) Underwood; and cousins Judy (David) Breckenridge and Elaine (Joseph) Amedick.

A private viewing will be held for immediate family Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Marley Funeral Home, followed by a 2 p.m. graveside service at Pleasant View Cemetery for anyone wishing to attend.  The cemetery is adjacent to Orangeville Immanuel United Church of Christ, 2165 Exchange Street Road, Attica. The family understands Covid-19 concerns, and respects decisions not to attend. For those attending, social distancing should be practiced, and face coverings worn.

Patricia L. “Tricia” Augello, 49 of Elba, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 13, 1970 in Batavia to Norman and Linda (Vereecken) Augello of Elba.

Tricia was a 1989 graduate of Elba Central School and then obtained an Associate’s Degree from Genesee Community College. She was bookkeeper at A & V Produce in Elba for many years. Tricia was a lifelong member of St. Padre Pio Parish and longtime Altar & Rosary Society member. She enjoyed going to high school basketball games, school plays and other activities that her nieces and nephews participated in. Growing up she enjoyed spending time at the family’s cottage at Conesus Lake. Tricia loved spending time with her family.

Tricia had a special relationship with Dr. Everett Porter and his family would like to extend a special thanks to him, as well as the other doctors and nurses at Strong Memorial Hospital that knew and took care of her.

Along with her parents, Tricia is survived by her siblings, Charles Augello of Elba; Susan (Frank) Nicolazzo of North Chili; Norman (Jerah) Augello of Elba; Michael (Tracy) Augello of Elba; Joseph Augello of Batavia; nieces and nephews, Stephen, Madalynn, Taylor, Carter, Kelsea, Lindsay, Matthew, Kennedy and Cooper; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

  Robert J. Schwab, age 94, of Perry, NY and formerly of Warsaw passed away on Saturday August 29, 2020 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw where he had been residing.He was born in the Town of Java, New York on March 2, 1926 a son to the late Augustus M. and Anna R. (Crayhan) Schwab.

Robert worked for Cleveland Trucking Co. in Buffalo and helped out many area farmers.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Parish in Warsaw. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding cars.

He is survived by 3 sisters: Eleanor F. Busch of Alden, Rose M. Boxler of Varysburg and Joan E. (John) Knab of Varysburg, 2 brothers: Raymond A. (Nadine) Schwab of Tonawanda, Francis J. (Betty Livingston) Schwab of Perry, along with several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by sisters: Margaret M. Preen, Cecilia R. Lyons, Teresa L. Berger, Marie G. Schwab and Irene A. Wilkins, brothers: Pvc. John F. Schwab and Bernard T. Schwab.

Batavia - Mrs. Doris E. Tootell, 99, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Tootell was born June 29, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late David and Alice Stanton Grice.

A longtime and devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Batavia, Doris was active in her church through various committees and participated in many bible studies. She was a member of the Ingraham Class of the church and was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star since 1955. The matriarch of her family, Doris was active in all of her children's lives growing up participating in the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and sports they were involved in. She enjoyed trips to Canada, camping at Southwoods in South Byron, going to Horseshoe Lake and being on the family boat. Her family will remember her for making the best sweet pickles and being an outstanding baker whose cookies and apple pies were enjoyed by many. 

Her husband, Harold K. Tootell, passed away on October 16, 2009.

She is survived by her son: Douglas (Betsy) Tootell of Delaware; three daughters: Susan (Michael) Ferris of Silver Springs, Deborah (Robert) Anderson of Rochester and Joan (Bill) Stevens of Batavia; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her siblings; David W. Grice, Harold Grice, Ruth Wagner and Audrey Aradine.

Friends may call from 11 a.m.  - 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church of Batavia, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in Grand View Cemetery. East Bethany -- Ryan M. Warner, 43, of East Bethany passed away on Tuesday, (August 25, 2020) in Rochester following a years long battle with addiction.

Ryan was born July 14, 1977 in Batavia, a son of Michael Warner of East Bethany and the late Linda (Colangelo) Warner.

He was a laborer, working primarily in roofing in the Batavia area. Ryan loved the Buffalo Bills, Full House, and '90s rap music. Ryan will be remembered by his family and friends as a charismatic and fun-loving individual who had an infectious smile and sense of humor that brightened any room.

Surviving along with his father are his brothers, Timothy (Jill) Warner, of Rochester, Barry (Jen) Warner, of Batavia, and Jeremy (Lindsay) Warner, of Le Roy; nieces and nephews, Alexis (Tanner) Smith, Caleb Jackson, Dylan, Victoria, Leyna, Allesandra, Brody, Anthony, Michael and John Warner.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, Aug. 29th from 4  to 6 p.m. at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E. Kathy E. Koers, 63 of Attica, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Gateway Home. She was born September 30, 1956 to Joseph (Elaine Stumm) Amedick of Darien Center.   

Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, oma, and teacher.  Family was everything and her life revolved around her 6 grandboys.  Oma, as she was affectionately referred, loved to spoil and read to her grandbabies as much as she could.   Through her passion for reading, she touched the hearts of countless children during her 20 years of teaching at Alexander Central School.   Music was equally as important to her.  Kathy spent every Sunday playing organ at St. Paul's Church and a couple evenings a week teaching piano to children.   When she wasn't teaching or spoiling her grandboys she focused on raising Hungarian Vizslas and riding her beloved horse Ernie.   Kathy only knew how to love.   That love will live on through everyone she impacted in her little community of Alexander.   She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and students. 

She is survived by her beloved husband Arend Koers of Attica; children Michael J. (Amy) Koers of Russell, PA; Justin J. (Jessica) Koers of Harpers Ferry, WV; Danielle (Kyle) Paganello of Attica; sisters Karen (Gary) Beideck of Darien; Amy (Jerry) Willard of Darien; 6 grandsons, Mason, Logan, Tyler, Cullen, Waylon and Finley; along with several nieces and nephews.

Charles A. Tracey, 82, of Darien Center passed away peacefully on August 26, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 6, 1938 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Charles B. and Anna (McGeachy) Tracey.

Charles worked as a Prison Guard at Attica Correctional Facility for 20 years. He enjoyed camping, doing yard work and loved spending time with his family and his dogs. Charles was especially proud of his grandson, Ryan, who recently finished boot camp and he got to see him became a United States Marine.

He is survived by his loving wife; Catherine (Lazarz) Tracey of Darien Center; son Sean Tracey of Attica and grandson; Ryan Tracey of Camp Pendleton, CA.

There will be no prior calling hours and Services will be private.

David J. Zanghi (Davey Joe) went to the Lord on March 29, 2020, and was born on January 27th 1953 in Batavia, New York to Mr. Salvatore J. and Domenica (Dorothy Tenebruso) Zanghi. David is survived by his sisters, Rosanne Wray (Robert), Michelle Gaylord (Paul), Mary Ellen Wilber (Jeffrey) and brother Philip S. Zanghi. He is survived by his sons, David J. Zanghi Jr and Alex S. Harrell (Tamara) and grandchildren Lexi, Henry, Lindsey and Lily. David is also survived by his long time companion and sweetheart, Patricia Meyers. 

David was a graduate of Batavia High School and a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. During his business career, he attended many Business Academia training for Sales & Marketing related to office equipment and technology. His career in Texas spanned 30 colorful years. His buddies will be telling stories for years from the Palaterie Brothers to Steve Cohen (Cohie), Rittie, Dr. Michael and Sherry Urban (Marve) Dr. Mark Morgan, and Joe and Faith Kuszay. 
Upon his return to the Batavia area, he was known as the "Mayor of the Southside," and he would sit on his porch and speak to all of his neighbors, who quickly became friends. David is also survived by his beloved 54 nieces and nephews. David had many close friends including his best friends, Vinny and Sue Pelegrino and their children. 

David was a great golfer and avid card player. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling. David was a member of Ascension Parish in Batavia, New York. 
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, visitation will be limited to 33% capacity on 9/1/20 from 4-8pm. Funeral Services will be held on September 2nd at 11am, and both events will be held at Michael Tomaszewski’s Funeral and Cremation Chapel. 

 

John A. Arent, 76 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (August 25, 2020) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

He was born February 17, 1944 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late John B. and Helen Kaczanowski Arent.

John was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed as a Medical Social Worker at St. Jerome’s Hospital, United Memorial Medical Center and The Batavia Nursing Home prior to his retirement. He was a longtime parishioner of Resurrection Parish, where he was a eucharistic minister, member of the Genesee Wyoming Lay Vicariate and St. Vincent DePaul Society. John was the commissioner for girl’s summer softball in Genesee County and volunteered with numerous organizations, including Crossroads House and the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce in Batavia and the Genesee Country Village & Museum in Mumford.

 Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Ann Justinger Arent of Batavia. Daughters, Jill (Richard) Franclemont of Darien Center, NY and Amy (Dan) Leonard of Norwalk, CT. Grandchildren, Alynn, Aidan and Adeline Franclemont. Brother, Michael (Sharon) Arent of Virginia. Sisters, Claudia (Richard) Benzin of Orchard Park and Catherine Reeves of Tonawanda.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery.

John A. Proper, age 91, of Silver Springs, NY passed away on Monday August 24, 2020 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born in Silver Springs, New York on June 30, 1929, a son to the late Rufus Proper and Dora Robson Fagan.

John worked for O&K Trojan currently Yale and Towne Co. in Batavia for over 26 years retiring in 1991. He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Warsaw Moose Club.

He is survived by a son: John ( Becky ) Proper of Silver Springs, sister: Gail (Howard) Smith of Albion, 2 granddaughters: Kimberly (Holly) Proper and Kelly Proper,2 step-grandchildren: Lane (Shelbi Edwards) Lomax and Kasey Stehlar, along with several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his companion: Mary Ellen Drew who passed away in 2013.

Sarah L. Matthews, age 47, of Silver Springs passed away at her home on Tuesday August 25, 2020.  She was born in Waukesha, WI on July 24, 1973 a daughter to David and Nancy (Reber) Patrick of Perry.

Sarah was a graduate of Perry Central School, class of 1991 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Roberts Wesleyan College. She was an accountant for many years working for several local businesses, She currently was a business manager at SUNY Geneseo. Sarah was a member of Hope Chapel in Perry. She enjoyed being outside whether camping, boating or hiking with her family. She enjoyed walking and playing with her dogs, doing taxes for people or was just that person that was always willing to help someone out. She was also a dedicated “Swim Mom” to her sons.

She is survived by her husband: Charles S. “Chip” Matthews II. whom she married on July 27, 1991 , 2 sons: Charles “Sam” Matthews III and Porter Matthews both at home, her parents: David (Nancy) Patrick of Perry, sister: Joy (Kurt) Braselton of Wheatland, brother: David (Margaret) Patrick of Westfield, MA, parents-in-law: David (Janet) Phillips of Silver Springs, grandparents: Cal (Elizabeth) Phillips of Silver Springs, sister-in-law: Sarah (William) Marsh of Pike, 4 brother-in-laws: David (Judy) Phillips II of Silver Springs, Tedd (Julie) Phillips of Silver Springs, Andrew (Joy) Phillips of Syracuse, Vern (Laurie) Phillips of Ocala, FL, along with several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and friends.

Lois Doreen Huth Wilkins, June 28, 1936 – August 23, 2020.After a courageous battle with cancer, Doreen passed away to heaven on August 23, 2020. Doreen was born in Clarence Center, New York on June 28, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Harold Huth and Pauline (Knapp) Huth.
Affectionately known as “Do”, she came to Akron with her mother and late sister (Janice Walker) in the 40’s and was a Village of Akron resident almost all of her life. Her residence since 1967 was on Main Street where she raised three sons, Craig (Sandra) Wilkins of Akron, Chris (Suzanne) Wilkins of East Amherst, and Terry (Robyn) Wilkins of Corfu.
Doreen loved her maternal grandchildren; Shawn, Pauline, Orrie, Cody, and Aaron as well as extended grandchildren;  Lisa and Ben. The family was blessed to watch her with her five great- granddaughters, Ema Jo, Kayleigh, Addison, and Gabriella. Baby Angelina died during childbirth. Known as Grandma GG to her great granddaughters, they recently sat with her and took turns reading pages from her favorite childhood book, “Little Rag Doll” that she was given as a child in the 1930’s.
Doreen graduated from Akron High School at age 16 and went on to study college courses in the clerical field. She applied those skills with her involvement as a Founding Charter Member of the Akron Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She married at 18 and worked at a handful of businesses in the area. Later, she would own her own business, Do’s Pounder Store on Main Road in Akron.
When family, including her niece Connie and friend Jean would stop to visit they would find her sitting within arm’s reach of her Bible and her companion “Skittles”, the bird, looking over her shoulder. As an avid walker who had each step measured; you could often see her on Main Street and in Russell Park visiting with merchants and friends.
Doreen enjoyed one on one time with her sons. She often attended country music concerts with her eldest son Craig. She was a big fan of Johnny Cash and the Statler Brothers, collecting their video and audio recordings. She was Craig's biggest fan, and supported and encouraged him in his music endeavors.
Her one on one time with middle son, Chris, was often spent studying and memorizing Bible scripture.  In her travels to Colorado Springs, CO while visiting Chris as he studied there in the Navigators Ministry, she found and loved the Glen Eyrie Castle. Chris will officiate at her services.
Her favorite one on one time with youngest son, Terry, was spent with the two of them in a small fishing boat on the waters of Lake Ontario, near Point Breeze and Olcott. The same waters she fished and boated in with her father as a pre-teen. Her three boys will place the flowers from her services in the currents there to float out to the lake in her memory.  
There will be no funeral or visitation services, as these are her wishes. A Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 1 PM. at Eastern Hills Church, 8445 Greiner Road, Williamsville, NY 14221. Masks are required to enter. A private burial will take place at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Akron. Doreen will be buried near her mother, Pauline Huth and great grandchild, Angelina Peluso. Stafford - Mary Jane Carr , 86  of Stafford,  passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing in Batavia.  

Mrs. Carr was born December 9, 1933 in Oakfield, a daughter of the late Reuben Howard, Sr. and Edith (Lauvey) Howard.

Following high school, Mary worked as a telephone operator with NY Telephone followed by working in the parts department for Trojan.  Finally, Mary worked in the cafeteria at Batavia Middle School where she enjoyed the children.  She volunteered along with her husband with the Genesee Co. History Department and enjoyed crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles, and reading.  She liked panda bears along with feeding and watching birds. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Batavia.  

Surviving are her husband, James Carr of Stafford; children, Cindy Chudoba of Alexander, Nancy Forsyth of Batavia, David Chudoba of Alexander, Kristan (Franklin) Nash of Webster, and Scott (Len Cercone) Carr of Buffalo; a sister-in-law,  Marlene Howard; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.  Mary is also survived by her beloved cat, Miracle.

Preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Reuben Howard, Jr.; sisters, Shirley Howard, Lorraine (late Harvey) Sebor, Dorothy Stevens, and Evelyn (late Robert) Phelps.

Paula Krotz of Gates, NY, formerly of Attica, passed away on August 24, 2020. Paula was born in North Collins, NY on April 25, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Labuzzetta. Paula is predeceased by her husband, Paul Krotz; son, Aaron; brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Norma Labuzzetta.

Paula was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. She liked to cook, bake, play cards, play bocce, swim and complete crossword puzzles. She enjoyed winters in Eustis, FL and had many friends there also. Most of all she deeply loved her family and friends and kept in touch with those near and far through cards, letters and phone calls. Paula was a member of NYS Retired Teachers Association, Catholic Daughters of America and FVOA.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Krotz; daughter, Karen (Randy) Strothmann; beloved grandchildren, Paul Krotz (Danielle Kilgore), Stacy (Eric) Bolles, Timothy (Jennifer) Macomber, Gregory (Karen) Macomber and Nicole (Mark) Thomas; eleven great-grandchildren, Carter, Colin and Raegan Bolles, Lily, Ethan, Nolan, Isaac and Elijah Macomber, Zach Marshall, and Connor and Brynn Thomas.

Friends may call on Saturday, August 29^th at the Leo M. Bean and Sons Funeral Home, 2771 Chili Ave. Rochester, NY 14624 from 12-4pm (please wear a mask) or Sunday, August 30^th at Marley Funeral Home, LLC, 135 Main Street, Attica, NY 14011 from 1-5pm (please wear a mask).   Paul Gary Gluck, 78, passed away peacefully Monday (8/24) morning surrounded by his family at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, Florida. Born the youngest of five children to Frederick and Hazel Gluck, Paul carved out a truly remarkable life for himself.

After graduating from the University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy in 1965, Paul married his high-school sweetheart Lorraine Gringer.  For the next 55 years they would be inseparable.  Together they raised three children, celebrated five grandchildren and ran a business. In 1968, Paul purchased Alberty Drugs in Batavia which began a long career caring for members of the community he so loved.  Paul found great fulfillment in helping people and he worked hard every day to serve his patients with care and compassion. After friends and family, Paul’s great passion in life was golf.  A longtime member of Stafford Country Club, Paul cherished his time spent on the golf course with friends.  Heaven was an early tee time on a clear, sunny morning. Much to his family’s enjoyment, cooking was another passion he pursued.  For Paul, cooking was one of the ways he expressed his love, so he took a special joy cooking for the people in his life.

Paul would want mentioned the fact that, as a young man, he enjoyed acting and was a member of the Batavia Players for many years.  Of course, Paul was a life-long Buffalo Bills fan.  Together with his best friend (the late) Trav Minor, he was a season ticket holder for decades.  With Paul and Trav, hope sprung eternal - they always believed that “this is the year we go all the way”. In retirement, Paul enjoyed spending his summers at the Chautauqua Institute and his winters in Florida at The Villages.  Wherever he was, Paul always had a circle of friends that he relished spending time with.  Of course, this usually involved golf and cooking.

For those who knew him, Paul will be remembered as a dedicated father and grandfather, a loving husband and a caring friend.  He was always quick with a smile, a joke, or a story.  Making people happy gave him his greatest pleasure.  Paul genuinely enjoyed life and was full of an optimism that was hard to resist.

Paul is survived by the love of his life, and wife of 55 years, Lorraine (Gringer) Gluck.  A dedicated father to Gregory (Mary) Gluck, Stephanie (Matthew) Mortellaro and David Gluck.  A loving grandfather to Madison, Natalie, Paul Gluck and Mateo, Tiago Mortellaro.  Paul is also survived by his brother David (Joanne) Gluck, sister Lorraine (Everett) Harris and sister-in-law J. Carol (Gringer) Bergstrom.

Paul is predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Hazel Gluck, his brother, Gordon and his sister Alma.

There will be no calling hours.  A private Funeral is planned.
