Batavia - Allan N. Parkhurst, age 88, passed away suddenly while with his family on October 28^th, 2020.  He was born in Corry, PA on November 22, 1931 to Norman and Altha Falker Parkhurst.  Allan worked with his father at an early age learning the

plumbing trade at W.G. Maney in Batavia.  In 1972, Allan retired from the US Air Force after more than 24 years of service working in the military police.  After retirement, he opened the police section at the Batavia VA Hospital and eventually became a pipefitter there.  Allan’s second retirement concluded with over 35 years of federal service.  Allan was very passionate about work and continued working for many years as a school bus driver and at Reinhart Enterprises before finally retiring, well into his 70s. 

Allan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  As an avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, boating, hobby farming, and just spending time out on his property over the years.  Dancing was also one of his favorite pastimes.  While serving his country, Allan enjoyed being able to travel and live in many places all over the world with his family.  Allan’s good nature and humor, sometimes creating his own “sayings”, was his way of making others smile.

Allan was predeceased by his brother, Merle S. Parkhurst, who passed away in 2018 at age 88.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dolores A. Wojtas Parkhurst of Batavia, NY; daughter, Cheryl (Charles III) Andre of Bethany, NY; son, Bob A. (Wildeana) Parkhurst of Batavia, NY; grandchildren, Charles IV (Laura), Christina (Ryan), and Matthew (Arianna) Andre; Bob A. Jr. and Brice A. Parkhurst; great-grandchildren, Linus and Elizabeth Andre.  Allan was a very devoted husband, father, & grandfather.

There are no prior visiting hours. Private graveside services, along with military honors, will be held in the spring at Pembroke National Cemetery, 1254 Indian Falls Road, Corfu, New York 14036. Brinda C. Allen, 77 of Batavia, died on Friday, October 30, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center after a short illness (not Covid-19). She was born on July 22, 1943 in Bristol, TN to the late James P. Childress and Elizabeth Fox Childress. She is predeceased by her husband; David V. Allen who died on September 23, 2007; great-grandson Kaleb Cere.  

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, loving friend to all who knew her. She owned The Hobby Hut in Attica. Brinda was involved with her husband in REACT, enjoyed spending time with family, bowling, traveling, crafts, sewing, and crocheting. She formerly resided at the Manor House where she was involved in Knit it Forward, making crochet squares and afghans for Roswell Hospital.

She is survived by her children; Susan (Del) Howard whom she resided with, Stephanie Laskowski, Tim Allen, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, close friends Judy Robinson and Wilma Meyers.

Mesa, Arizona - Eric  Anthony  Easton, 37 of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Basom, New York, passed away most tragically on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 as a result of injuries sustained in an accident.

Eric was born September 11, 1983 in Batavia, a son of Gerald Easton and Bernadette Corbelli Easton of Basom. 

Eric was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting and riding his dirtbike.

Surviving along with his parents are his brother; Shawn (Nicole) Easton of Byron; his niece; Whitley Easton of Byron; his grandfather; Wilbur (late Julia) Easton of Oakfield; several aunts and uncles including Kathleen Corbelli of Mesa, Arizona with whom Eric was living with. Eric is also survived by several cousins.

There are no prior visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at St. Padre Pio Parish-Oakfield Worship Site, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield.   Barbara A. Rynkowski, 79, of Batavia passed away on Thursday October 29, 2020 at the United Memorial Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on August 6, 1941 in Hume, NY to the late Frank and Grace (Voss) Milliman. In addition to her parents, Barbara is predeceased by her husband; Alfred Rynkowski; daughter Cynthia Ann Rynkowski and step-son Stephen Rynkowski; siblings Wilma Ikeler and William Cole.

Barbara was a graduate of Corfu High School class of 1959.  She enjoyed going to the movies, crossword puzzles, scratch offs, and spending time and cuddling with her beloved cat, Izzy.

She is survived by her children; Gary Rynkowski; Cathe Rynkowski; step-son Timothy Rynkowski;  brothers Floyd (Lilly) Milliman , Stephen (Sharon) Milliman and Donald Milliman, along with several nieces and nephews.

David John Saleh passed into new life Oct. 29, 2020, after cancer. David leaves a family and a community that will miss his love, dedication, generosity and warmth. David’s dedication to his large, Saleh/Abdella Lebanese family and community was the hallmark of his 67-year life. One of the lessons that David taught throughout his life was that one’s moral and spiritual strength can be shared to help others become stronger themselves.

He began his formal education at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, where he graduated with honors. Since that wasn’t enough, he also graduated with honors from The University at Buffalo. His string of honors recognition continued still, through Law School at UB, where he was also the Editor of the Law Review.

After moving to Corfu, NY to raise a family and practice law, David became a leading member and mentor of the community. David acted as a leader in the legal community of Genesee County in all aspects of law. In addition to serving as president of the Genesee County Bar, he was a delegate to State Judicial Nominating Committee for over 35 years. For the past year, David served as a part time City Court Judge in Batavia, NY. In addition to his legal work David was an integral part of the Enlighten family, serving as General Counsel and Vice President of New Business Ventures for over 17 years.

David supported his community in a variety of important ways. He was a Eucharistic Minister, lector and parish council at his local Catholic church; as well as a visiting minister and Chaplin of the Erie County Correctional Facility; he was a 40-year member of the Lions Club, serving three terms as president; he served as a volunteer firefighter in Corfu for 44 years and assumed several leadership positions there; he coached the Pembroke High School Mock Trial Team; was a longtime member of the local Grange; served as president and director of the Corfu Free Library; was a past director and treasurer of the St. Jerome Hospital Foundation; and served his alma mater as the President of UB Alumni Association.

By donating his body to the University of Buffalo Medical School, David found an important way to give back even in death.

As a lifelong Western New Yorker, David was also a lifelong fan of the Yankees and the Bills, learning from both victory and defeat, respectively. All who knew David knew that he had an in-depth analysis of what was going right and how the general managers could make improvements. If only they had listened … four Super Bowls wins would be ours … and at least three more World Series trophies.

David was predeceased by his parents Donald and Joan Saleh of Buffalo, NY.

David is survived by: his wife of 44 years Elizabeth (Liz) Abdella Saleh; his four children Anthony (Kate Sixt), Amy (Nick Peterson), Andrew (Amanda), Anne (Thomas Lisle); his grandchildren, Alexandria, Augustus, Elias, Eblena, Jude, Jonah and Janette; 11 brothers and sisters, Thomas, Dolores, Donald, George, Barbara, Mary, Charles, Margaret, Gloria, Edward and James; over 90 nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law.

This large extended family grieves together and mourns the loss of a family member who was always there to help them in any way.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a date to be determined where the entire community will be welcomed, once large gatherings are permitted.

David, we LOVE YOU as a wonderful husband, father, Jido (Arabic word for grandfather), brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend. You will be in our lives forever.

Thomas L. Stokes, age 66, of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 5, 2020, after testing positive for COVID-19 on October 2, 2020, while a resident at Corning Center for Rehabilitation in Corning, NY.

Mr. Stokes was born on July 28, 1954, in Batavia, son of Donald and Francis Stokes.

A graduate of Batavia High School, Tom worked for Genesee Lumber, was a "Million Dollar Salesman" at Armor Building Supply and last worked at Route 98 Windows and Doors after accumulating over 30 years experience in the window and door industry. Tom was a devoted Yankee fan, a Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan, and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was a statistician for the Batavia Little League NYS Championship Team of 1982. Tom also loved to travel, watch old movies and listen to music. He was an avid bird watcher and cat lover, and is predeceased by his favorite kitties, Munson, Ebony and Shadow.

Tom is predeceased by his sister, Jacqueline E. Miller who passed away on September 16, 1995

He is survived by his parents, Donald and Francis Stokes of the NYS Veteran's Home in Batavia, NY; sister Terry E. Stokes of Brockport, NY; brother Ted(Barb) Stokes of Holland, Michigan; brother in-law Lloyd Miller of Stafford, NY; former wife and friend, Debbie Harding Stokes of Alexander, NY; cousin Keith(Karen) Grinnell, of Batavia, NY, who were very helpful during Tom's last year of life; and several aunts, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Tom was also a father and grandfather.

Plans for a Celebration of Life will be scheduled sometime in the spring . Burial and a graveside service will be held at the family's convenience.

Agnes Warren, 102 of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. She was born in Batavia on January 12, 1918 to the late Frank (Mary Montroy) Banglesdorf. She is preceded in death by her husband Elvin Warren, son Elvin E. “Gene” Warren Jr., and her sister.

Mrs. Warren was a faithful member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish for 70 plus years. She enjoyed gardening and camping with her husband. Mrs. Warren loved her family especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Scott and Kathy for the amazing and loving care they showed her.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Kay (Frank) Schwerthoffer of Fort Mill, SC; Wendy (James) Gerrard of Batavia; daughter-in-law Kathy Warren of Batavia; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, godchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Jason Christopher Hale, 49, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, (October 26, 2020) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

Mr. Hale was born December 7, 1970 in Batavia, a son of Richard and Sheila (Pribison) Hale of Corfu.

He enjoyed fishing and playing the latest video games. He followed all forms of motorsports on TV: NASCAR, NHRA, INDYCAR, and motocross motorcycle racing; on occasion attending races at area tracks. He was a diehard fan of the NFL Raiders football team, win or lose.

Surviving along with his parents are his son, Trevor Pahl of Batavia; sister, Jacqueline R. (Douglas) Ferris of Le Roy; a nephew, Jacob Ferris; paternal grandmother, Norma Hale of Batavia.  Two aunts and an uncle also survive.

Preceded in death by an uncle, Daniel Foster Hale; and his paternal grandfather, LaVerne S. Hale.

There will be no visitation.  Family and friends are invited to attend Jason's Mass of Christian Burial on Friday (October 30, 2020) at 1:00 PM in St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street in Batavia.  Burial will be held privately in St. Joseph's Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wilmot Cancer Center, 262 Bank Street, Batavia, New York 14020.

LeRoy ~ Shirley A. Dimick, age 82, of Mill Street, passed away early Tuesday morning (Oct. 27, 2020) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

    

She was born August 5, 1938 in Batavia, a daughter of the late John and Josephine Baglio Maida.

     Shirley will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend.  She was a caring and dedicated care provider for her husband of 55 years, William.  She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking for her family and friends.

     She will be sadly missed by her children, Barbara (John) Joy of LeRoy, John (Lorraine Puleo) Dimick of LeRoy and Steve (Sami Rapone) Dimick of LeRoy; grandchildren, Katherine "Katie" (Matt Morley) Joy, Michael (Haley) Joy and Jonathan Dimick; great-grandchild, MacKenzie Morley; sister, Dorothy Halligan; sisters-in-law, Diane Dimick, Lois Dimick and Sylvia Dimick, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     She was predeceased by her husband, William "Bill" Dimick in 2015 and brothers-in-law, Jerry Halligan, Richard Dimick, Clayton Dimick and Rodney Dimick.

     Family and friends are invited to attend her Rite of Christian Burial on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy. (Face masks and social distancing required).  Interment in St. Francis Cemetery will be private.

Deborah S. Hazzard, 50 of Perry, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 24, 2020 at Koscielniak Home in Perry. She was born November 26, 1969 in Flushing, NY to John (Ruth) Hazzard of Rochester.

Deb loved music, being outdoors and good food. She received her educational certificate from the NYS School for the Blind. The family would like to thank the “family” of residents and staff at the Koscielniak Home for all of the love they shared.

She is survived by her parents, sister Mara (Chris Wallingford) Hazzard-Wallingford of West Henrietta and niece Emma Wallingford.

Mary E. “Betty” Tiernan, 96 of Perry, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 25, 2020 at East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw. She was born October 29, 1923 in Leicester to the late James (Matilda Barkley) Pendergast. She is preceded in death by two husbands Robert Tiernan and Dean Barrows, her daughter Diane Barrows and all of her siblings.

Mrs. Tiernan worked for many years at the Greater Rochester International Airport.

She is survived by her son Randall D. Barrows of Perry; grandchildren Mary (Chris) Foley of Attica; James Barrows of Perry; 7 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces of nephews.

Nancy J. Dembowski, 73 of Varysburg, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2020. She was born May 30, 1947 in Batavia to the late Lester T. (Betty J. Hart) Andrews. She is preceded in death by her husband Bernard Dembowski II.

Nancy worked for many years at Wyoming County Community Hospital. She was an extremely kind, sweet woman. Her door was always open for a meal or to help someone in need.

She is survived by her step-son Bernard Dembowski III; brothers Terry (Janet) Andrews, Kevin (MaryLou) Andrews; brothers and sisters-in-law Darryl (Gloria) Dembowski, Diane (Bhagwanji) Gosai, Terry Lee (Brenda) Dim; nieces and nephews Michael (Kirsten) Andrews, Thomas, Allison Andrews, a heartfelt thank you to her best friend “sister” Betsy (Carl) Flint; beloved dog Roxy; close friends Dan (Julie) Buchholz, Celeste Bzduch.

LeRoy ~ Arthur P. Leo, age 88, of Warsaw Road, passed away Saturday evening (October 24, 2020) at Strong Memorial Hospital in the presence of his loving family.

    

 He was born August 19, 1932 in Rochester, a son of the late Alfred and Cora Sager Leo.

     He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, as well as a retiree of Rochester City Forestry/Parks and Recreation.

     He was a “ Staple” at LeRoy Tops Super Market and surrounding coffee shops!

     He is survived by his wife of 50 yrs, Dorothy Leo; daughters, Debi Trommer (Dave), Kim Gifaldi (John), Kim Mooney (Tom), Gigi Mattice (Butch), Dawn Myers (David) and son, Brian Leo (Nicole); 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Alfred James Leo III and his sister, Joan Root.

     Services and interment in Grove Place Cemetery are private.

Brenda Lantz, (Bartholomew), 57 of Gainesville passed away after a long battle with cancer on Thursday October 22, 2020. Brenda was born November 21, 1963 in Batavia, NY on November 21, 1963, to the late Frank and Josephine Bartholomew.

Brenda is survived by her daughter; Jennifer Beedham, brothers; Dennis Bartholomew and Frank Bartholomew Jr., and sister, Gloria Hair.  Several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Ruth Irene Eick, 94, of Corfu died Saturday morning, October 24, 2020 at Gateway Home of Attica. Ruth passed away in the presence of her family.  We cannot express enough gratitude to the staff of Gateway Home for their love and commitment to our family these past few weeks.

Born July 4, 1926 in Alabama, NY, Ruth was the daughter of LaVern and Edith (Brege) Gray. Ruth lived most of life in Alabama, NY. She was known for serving her community and neighbors with friendship, baked goods, and most importantly, love. For many years, Ruth enjoyed helping her husband, Bob with their business, Eick’s Bicycle Barn. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia, NY.

Above all, Ruth’s greatest joy was caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She modeled the true meaning of patience, kindness, love, and motherhood.

Ruth is survived by daughters, Elaine (David) Wheatley of Delhi,  Diane Phelps of Corfu, and son-in-law Paul Schafer of Tallahassee, FL;  10 grandchildren, Summer (Dan) Forness, Grayden (Brittany) Schafer, Juliane (Paul) Hillis, Christina (David) Rheam, Peter (Kristin) Wheatley,  John (Amber) Wheatley, Joanna (Nathan) Hatch, Kyle (Lindsay) Phelps, Carrie Phelps, Lindsey (Ryan) Mating; and 17 great grandchildren along with many other loving friends and family.

Ruth was pre-deceased by husband, Robert in 2017 after 68 years of marriage, daughter Carol Jean Schafer (December 2017), and son in law, Paul Wesley Phelps (August 2015).

Friends may visit during calling hours on Sunday, November 1^st from 2-4pm at the J. LEONARD McANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Avenue, Batavia, NY. A private memorial service will be held for Ruth’s immediate family. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing rules will apply to both events.
