BRIAN K. ACE, SR. ~ 53, of Batavia, died peacefully Thursday July 2, 2020 at home under the care of Hospice and his loving family, following his hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Brian was born in Buffalo, NY on February 8, 1967, a son of Maryanne (late Kenneth) Anderson of Batavia and the late Gaylord R. Ace., Sr., also preceded in death by grandson, Michael, and Micah Gard.

Brian was an assistant manager/mechanic for Monroe Muffler prior to his illness. A member of the Polish Falcons and VFW, he enjoyed racing, be it dirt track or asphalt. Brian was an avid golfer and most often spotted on his Harley as he loved to ride!

Surviving along with his mother Maryanne is his beloved wife of 28 years, Tracy (Steger) Ace of Batavia; children, Brian K. Ace, Jr. of Batavia, Heather Ace of LeRoy, Amber Ace of Oakfield and Erika Ace of Batavia; cherished grandchildren, Mya, Brody, Malachai, Landyn, Joseph, Caleb & Logan; siblings, Gaylord R. Ace, Jr. of Arkansas, Terry (Daniel) Yates of Batavia, Barbara (Thomas) Bodie of Arkansas, Mae (Robert) Schaffer of Medina; father-in-law, Clarence (Mary Jane) Steger of Arizona; mother-in-law, Jerri Steger of Rochester along with several nieces and nephews.

DENNIS W. WILSON – Age 57, of Corfu, died peacefully Thursday July 2, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born in Batavia, NY, a son of the late William and Pauline (Demmer) Wilson.

Dennis was retired from the Batavia City School District and the Kleen-All Co. after many years of service. He was a member of the Batavia Assembly of God Church, avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed sports. Dennis enjoyed time with friends and family and most importantly time with his children.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 29 years whom he married June 8, 1991, Ruth (Baubie) Wilson of Corfu; loving children, Ryan Wilson, Olivia Wilson, Makaila Wilson all at home and Dustin Kent of FL; siblings, Donald (Diane) Bartz of AZ, Amy Wilson-Hall of Cheektowaga, Linda (Vincent) Wise of Cuba, Alice (Robert) Buckel of Batavia, Paula (Robert) Mendez of Palmyra and Susan (Steve) Lee of Warsaw; father & mother-in-law, James (Joanna) Baubie of Oakfield along with many nieces and nephews.

DENNIS J. WITTMAN ~ Age 77, of Batavia, passed peacefully at Charlotte House in N. Java, NY. He was born to the late Jerome and Evelyn (Hamilton) Wittman on June 2, 1943 in Buffalo, NY, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Allan Wittman and sisters-in-law, Jeanette Bangs and Dolores Clark.

Dennis was a graduate of Cleveland Hill High School, his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, Wadham’s Hall Seminary, Ogdensburg, NY and earned his master’s degree from the University of Rochester.

He was employed for 36 years with Genesee County as a Probation Officer and in 1980 was asked by the late Sheriff, W. Douglas Call to head up a new program, Alternatives to Incarceration, which was a first in the United States with law enforcement and third such program in the United States. He began the first rural and fourth in New York State Child Advocacy Center and Multi-Disciplinary Teams serving Genesee County, as well as neighboring counties. He started the Driving While Intoxicated Conditional Discharge Program, Justice for Women Program and Team, the Western New York State Victims Coalition, he was President of the New York State Crime Victims Board Advisory Council and, Vice President of the New York State Association for Alternative Sentencing. Former Governor George Pataki appointed Dennis to the Western New York Citizens Review Panel (abused children), First Victim/Offender Reconciliation Program in New York State dealing specifically with serious/violent cases, National Institution of Corrections consultants, Office of Victims of Crime consultants, Chairman of Criminal Justice Advisory Council. Dennis represented the United States in a Bi-Lateral Summit in Japan, addressed the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, addressed the Canadian Parliament on Restorative Justice and traveled to forty states and the Canadian Provinces of Quebec, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and British Columbia.

Dennis recently served on the Diocese of Buffalo Sexual Abuse and Misconduct Policy Task Force. He was an Adjunct Professor at Roberts Wesleyan College and served as Town Supervisor for the Town of Bethany from 1978 to 1990. He was a faithful member of Ascension Parish in Batavia where he served as Vice President and President of the Holy Name Society, President of the Parish Council and Usher under the former Sacred Heart Parish.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Chmielowiec) Wittman of Batavia whom he married in 1971; loving daughters, Holly (Michael) Stoddard of Honeoye and Jennifer of San Antonio, TX; faithful Husky companion, Kodah; sister, Kathie (Paul) Beaulieu of Cheektowaga, NY and brother, Philip (Nancy) Wittman of Akron, NY; brother-in-law, Dr. A Steven Bangs of Long Island; sister in law, Marsha Deman of Defiance, Ohio along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great niece and nephew.

Father David Glassmire, Deacon Mark Kehl, Rev. Father Matthew Kawiak, Deacon Corey Foegen and especially Sue Hatrick for giving a part of herself to Dennis.

Pavilion ~ Albert P. Strobel, age 92, of Lake Street, passed away Wednesday evening (July 1, 2020) at UMMC in Batavia.

   

 He was born October 13, 1927 in Batavia, a son of the late Ralph and Jane Peterson Strobel.

     Al will be remembered as a loving and caring man, who was devoted to his family and his faith.  He was a proud World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army.  He started his own family business, Strobel Auto Electric and was an exceptional wood worker.

      He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Mary Smith Strobel; his children, Sharon Grube of FL, Bruce (Mary) Strobel of Tonawanda, Nancy (James) Morthope of GA, Larry Strobel of Pavilion, Deborah (Don) Cahail of MO and Joan (Andy) Stevens of Mt. Morris; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; his brother, Rev. Herbert R. Strobel of PA; Fresh Air Fund Daughter, Debbie Farr, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph W. "Billy" Strobel and his sister-in-law, Marge Strobel.

     There will be no prior visitation.  A public memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Lester E. “Piker” Gephart, 83 of Lockport, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born January 10, 1937 in Attica, to the late Lester A. (Carol Nichols) Gephart. He is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Kreutter) Gephart, daughter Rose Mary Gephart, son-in-law Donald Lawrence, brother William Gephart, sisters Doris Sonricker, Virginia Joy and Patricia Sonricker.

Lester was a hardworking man, sealing driveways, landscaping, farming and always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his children June (Jerry Robbins) Lawrence of Angelica; Paul (Michelle) Gephart of Rushford; sister Beverley Shaw of Varysburg; sister-in-law Helen Gephart of Springville; grandchildren David (Jennifer) DeLude of Concord, NC; John (Chris) DeLude of Johnsonburg; James (Lindsey) Gephart of Pembroke; Chris Gephart of Bergen; 8 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn M. Sanders, 86 of Batavia, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Premier Genesee. She was born in Batavia on January 10, 1934 to the late Floyd (Ethel Greenman) Thomas. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Clair Sanders, daughter Linda Sanders, sons David and Michael Sanders; son-in-law David Gendron; sisters Betty Baker, Carol Sevor and Patricia Twitchell.

Mrs. Sanders worked as Assistant Director of Genesee Community College Day Care. She enjoyed going to horse races. Evelyn spent her entire life taking care of everyone, from her husband to her grandchildren, a loving and supporting mother that loved her family.  

She is survived by her beloved children Bonnie (Jim) Moore of Oakfield; Daniel Sanders of NC; James Sanders of Batavia; Thomas (Sandy) Sanders of Batavia; siblings Floyd “Sonny” Thomas Jr. of Tonawanda; Nancy Sanders of FL; James (Joanie) Thomas of NC; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

Alexander Toth Jr age 74 of Attica, NY died June 27, 2020 at Millard Suburban Hospital, Williamsville, New York after a long battle with cancer.

He was born October 3, 1945 to Alex and Elizabeth (Slak) Toth in Washington Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his parents and Brother John Toth. Best friend and fellow hunter Mike Bowerman, He is survived by one sister, a sister-in-law, two nieces and two nephews.

Alex graduated in 1963 from Weirton Madonna High School, Weirton, West Virginia. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and is retired with over thirty years of service from US Airways, Buffalo, New York. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and a teller of tall tales. He will be missed by all who knew him.

It was Alex's wishes that there will be no calling hours. Due to covid 19 a celebration of a life well lived will be held later.

Elba - Robert "Bob" Thompson, 93, of Elba, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, June 28, 2020.

Robert was born in Batavia January 4, 1927. The son of the late Glenn and Zelda Heywood Thompson, he was raised by his aunt, Carrie Deagman.

As a member of the United States Army, Mr. Thompson proudly served his country during World War II. After his return to Western NY, he owned and operated the IGA grocery store in the Village of Oakfield, partially restored the East Shelby Methodist Church, and developed the former Oakfield High School into the Schoolhouse Manor.  A lifetime VFW member, he enjoyed collecting tools, spending time in his workshop, and being with his family.

Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Madeline Waterman Thompson, who passed away in 1962, and his sisters, Ruth Johnson and Martha Thompson.

Robert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Calus Thompson. Also surviving are his children: Dianne (Keith) Boeheim of Batavia, Alan R. Thompson of Montana, Michael Robert (Anne-Marie Yunker) Thompson of Chesterland, Ohio, Katrina Marie (Labros) Petropoulos of Chardon, Ohio, and Melissa Marie Thompson of Macon, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Kathrine, Matthew, Elizabeth, Liam, Spiridon, Anastasia, and Aidan; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Clifford (late Arlene) Thompson of Bergen; his brother-in-law; John (Linda) Calus of Missouri; along with many nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Thompson's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the VA in Batavia and the VNA of WNY for the compassionate care they provided Robert during his time of greatest need.

The family will be holding private services, with military honors. There will be no visitation. Stafford ~ Edward G. Scott, was welcomed home into the arms of the Lord on June 28, 2020 surrounded by family after a brief illness. He was 98.

    

He was born in Batavia on November 22, 1921, along with his twin sister Edith, to the late Jay and Alice Dampier Scott. After graduating from LeRoy High School in 1939 he enlisted in the Army and served as a medic in World War II. Upon returning from service he married the love of his life, Harriet Eichler, in 1949 and had four children. The family settled in Stafford where Ed worked on the family farm, as a carpenter building houses and at Lapp Insulator, Jello and GTE Sylvania. He was a man of faith and longtime member of LeRoy Methodist Church and United Methodist Church in Stafford.

     To know Ed was to love him. He was quick witted, honest and at times mischievous. He had an exceptional love for his family and proudly told everyone his grandchildren resided around the world. He was an avid outdoorsman that could be seen riding his bike around Stafford into his 90’s and spent many winters swimming in Florida where he was known as “the Mayor”. He livened up every dance floor, never missed out on a game of cards and enjoyed playing ping pong where he lovingly earned the name “Fast Eddie”.

     He is survived by his children Doreen (Gene) Vance of Hornell, Rickey (Jane) Scott of Stafford, Sue (Tom) Jasinski of Sneads Ferry, NC and Nelson (Dawn) Scott of Batavia. He was cherished by his grandchildren: Erin, Jay, Tim, Emily, Anne, Brent, Heather, April, Kyle, Tommy, Sarah, Tom and Rachael. He was proud to have 24 great-grandchildren and referred to everyone as “precious”. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and longtime friend and companion Doris Jean Belt of Marceline, MO.

     He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Harriet Eichler Scott and his sisters Elsie Dorsey, twin Edith Longchamps and Leona Nagle.

     Family and friends may call on Sunday, July 5 from 4 ~ 7 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd. (Rt. 19), LeRoy. (Funeral home occupancy will be limited to 33% capacity during the course of visitation and face masks will be required.) Funeral services will be private.

  Donald M. Bernard, age 57, of Fillmore, NY passed away on Friday June 26, 2020 in Stafford, NY from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. He was born in Warsaw, New York on October 5, 1962 a son to the late Donald F. and Beverly (Rice) Bernard.

Don was a graduate of Letchworth Central School class of 1981. Don was employed by Jimmy’s Towing and Auto Body in Mt. Morris. He enjoyed gardening, riding his motorcycle, listening to music, was an outdoorsman who like to hunt, trap and fish..

He is survived by his companion: Cheryl Lariviere of Fillmore, 2 sons: Austin and Chase Bernard both of Fillmore, 4 step-children: Shanda (Jason) Marshall of Portageville, Josh Boyd of Sardina, Kayla Stott of Fulton, Logan Lariviere of Fulton, sister: Connie McHugh of Silver Springs, 4 brothers: Robert (Lisa) Bernard of Silver Lake, Greg Bernard of Stafford, Steve (Theresa) Bernard of Arcade, Brian (Pam) Bernard of Venice, Fl., grandson: Damon Bernard,5 step grandchildren: Jayden , Aaliyah and Mariah Marshall, Destiny Stott and Zachary, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Beatrice “Beady” Anna (Sheffer) Warren, 98, formerly of Stafford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28^th, 2020.

Beady was born on December 13^th, 1921 in Stafford, New York. She grew up in a strong family that taught her the value of hard work; something she never stopped doing. She told stories of picking potatoes for spending money, working at the Stafford Country Club, and raising her beautiful family. Her love of cooking and sweets, volunteering, and being part of the community was well known. She was a lover of cards and letters, long Sunday drives around the lake, traveling, and music. Not a day passed without the crackle of the radio in the kitchen which was always tuned to WBTA. She loved to watch reruns of the Lawrence Welk Show as much as she did when they were brand new. A member of the Stafford Ladies Auxiliary for 45+ years, Beady also volunteered at the Batavia Senior Center and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Stafford.

Ninety-eight years is a long time, and Beady lived through so many major events in her lifetime, it’s hard not to mention them. Born in the twilight of America’s last major pandemic, and the year after women gained the right to vote, she spent her childhood in the Great Depression, and the first years of her marriage in World War II. It wasn’t long before the ball point pen and televisions were first brought into her home. Then came the moon landing, the Cold War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights movement. But, the 20^th century wasn’t done yet and gave her the fall of the Soviet Union, the removal of the Berlin Wall, and the Challenger explosion. By this time, her children were grown with children of their own, and she walked right by the Gulf War and Y2K to enter the new millennium, experience 9/11, and the birth of the information age. She saw 17 presidents come and go from office. And it is here, just a few years shy of her centennial, she decided her time had come to take a well-deserved rest.

Beady is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Earl Glenn Warren, whom she married at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, on Saturday, December 16^th, 1939; Both of her parents, Fredrick J. Sheffer and Anna Heal Sheffer of Stafford; All of her sisters and brothers, Gladys (Dayton) Nichols, Lucille (Leon) Hammer, Gertrude (Vernon) McWethy, Clayton and Marie Sheffer, Donald and Vivian Sheffer, and Louise Sheffer.

She is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Jim) Woodruff and her son Jerry Warren (Marcia McKenzie); her grandchildren; Maureen (Paul) Egeling, Zoe (Geoff) Maves, Rebecca (John) Kollmorgan, Jessica Warren (James Schemanski); eight great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service is to be held at a later date, and a small service will be held at the Stafford Rural Cemetery for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or to the Stafford Fire Department.

PATRICK MICHAEL MALLOY ~ Age 60, of Elba, died peacefully Sunday morning June 28, 2020 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born in Johnstown, PA on May 21, 1960 to John “Jack” Malloy of PA and the late Sandra (Rolley) Malloy also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Malloy.

Patrick served with the US Army Reserves, worked as a miner/heavy equipment operator for the US Gypsum Co. until its closing also working for American Rock Salt. He was an avid military collector of WWI & WWII memorabilia, antiques and owned many a muscle car over the years. Pat’s family reflects on how he enjoyed nothing more than the quiet, peaceful time he spent sitting on his porch out in the woods.

Surviving along with his father, Jack (Randy) Malloy of PA is his beloved wife of many years, Henrietta (Shirley) Malloy of Elba; loving sons, David (Amanda) Malloy of Oakfield and daughter, Payton; Billy (Virginia) Malloy of Oakfield and their children, Ayden and Ella; siblings, Cynthia (Glenn) Shank, John Malloy both of PA; step-children, Nora Weber of Seneca Falls, Sunshine Weber of the Tonawanda Indian Res., DeerInWater Hill of CA and Jonathon Shirley of Seneca Falls along with several step-grandchildren;  step-siblings, Michael (Denise) Stiffler of SC, Terry (Mark) Piper of PA  and several nieces, nephews also survive.

  Jeanie M. Thompson, age 38, of Attica, NY passed away on Sunday June 28, 2020 at Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home in Perry after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Batavia, NY on May 31, 1982 a daughter to Glenn J. and Audrey J. (Mayer) Thompson of Attica. Jeanie is preceded in death by maternal grandparents: Gordon and Gladys (Spring) Mayer, paternal grandparents: Howard “Joseph” and Lillian (Chapel) Thompson and uncle: Wayne Mayer.

Jeanie was a graduate of Attica Central School class of 2000. She worked for Genesee Community College in Batavia, she was a former reporter for the Country Courier and worked summers at Darien Lake. Jeanie enjoyed reading, traveling, fulfilling a lifelong dream to go to Paris, and writing. She was a member of the Warsaw’s Write Connection a writing group based out of Warsaw.

Along with her parents she is survived by her boyfriend and soul mate: Mark Nenni of Brockport, sister: Laura (Will) Smith of Eustis, Fl., brother: Gary (Ashley Rowsam) Thompson of Carthage, NY, nephew: Hayden Smith, Mark’s two sons: Trey and Evan Nenni, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends,

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Jeanie’s ashes will be scattered in her mother’s flower gardens.

Judy A. Wolf, 62 of Attica, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2020. She was born August 27, 1957 in Batavia, to the late Richard (Glenda Schmidt) Wolf.

Judy worked at P.W. Minor in Batavia until it closed and then went on to work at Great Batch in Alden. She loved her draft horses and her dogs.

She is survived by her siblings Loren (Kathy) Wolf of Bergen; Wayne (Linda) Wolf, Lorraine Wolf, Paula (Karl) Hinz all of Attica; several nieces and nephews, 2 great nephews and 1 great niece.  

There will be no prior calling hours and services will be held privately.
