Obituaries

Batavia - Earl D. Dorman, 97, of Batavia, passed on November 12, 2020 at Crossroads House in Batavia. He was born on June 20, 1923 in Batavia, to the late Leo and Fannie (Laramy) Dorman. He married Suzanne (Hopp) Dorman April 1, 1945 at the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia where he has been a member for 74 years. Suzanne passed away April 9, 2015 after 70 years of marriage.

He is the last surviving graduate from Elba Central School Class of 1941. In addition to his lifelong work on the family farm, he drove truck hauling milk and fuel, worked as an Equipment Operator and Foreman for the Genesee County Highway Department over a span of 20+ years, and enjoyed working at the annual Brockport Central School Art Show for over 10 years.

His family, neighbors, and friends will remember him for his love of the farm and his D2 CATS and John Deere equipment, travels, his willingness to lend a helping hand when needed, and conversations with friends and strangers with a cup of coffee and fried cake in hand.

He will be missed and forever loved by his children Judy Whitney of Avon, Karen (Ray) Gabriel of Brockport, Craig (Beverly) Dorman of Batavia, and David (Mary Ann) Dorman of Batavia. Grandchildren Peter (Tammy Matt) Whitney, Greg (Aileen) Whitney, Michelle (Shawn) Skelly, Jeremy Gabriel, Trevor Gabriel, Jill (Josh) Daws, Kelly (Ryan) Olson, Joshua (Shawna) Dorman, Sarah (Matt) Ford, Mary Ellen (Jason Downs) Dorman, Amy (Jack) Moffitt, Caitlin (Shawn) Affolter, and Anna (Nathan DeVille) Dorman.  21 Great Grandchildren, several nephews, nieces, and cousins also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother James and wife Dorothy Dorman, son-in-law David Whitney, and sister-in-law Virgina and brother-in-law Charles Barone.

The family would like to extend special thanks to his incredible caregiver crew this past year.   We also appreciate the amazing care he received from the staff and volunteers at Crossroads House this past week. Earl requested that he be a part of the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Rochester.  The family welcomes donations in his memory to Crossroads House P.O. Renee worked for many years at Wyoming Central School, the Penny Saver and Sylvania in Batavia. She enjoyed baking, traveling, camping, fishing, planting her favorite flowers in the spring and spending time with her family. Renee was a compassionate woman who always made sure others needs were met above her own until the end. Her quiet strength and undying love will continue to inspire her family and she will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her husband; Glenn Miller; son Jeffrey Miller of Buffalo; brothers Laverne (Susan) Lear and Gary Lear; sister Victoria Krueger, along with many nieces and nephews.

Renee’s family would like to thank Renee’s niece, Leigh, for the special care she provided over the last weeks of her life.

Florida/Batavia - Richard Langford Christie, III, 57  of Ruskin, Florida and Batavia  passed away on Friday, (November 6, 2020) at his home in Batavia.
Mr. Christie was born February 19, 1963 in Miami, Florida, a son of Richard Langford Christie, Sr. and Eartha Lee (Jackson) Christie.

Services for Richard will be held in Florida at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, Florida 33578. Batavia - Grace  P. Cook, age 84, of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Batavia.

Mrs. Cook was born Friday, October 2nd, 1936 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, a daughter of the late Hedley Robert Earle and Mary Elizabeth Cook Earle.

Grace was a member of Resurrection Parish in Batavia. An avid gardener, she enjoyed walking with her friends.

She is survived by her siblings; David (Barbara) Earle of Batavia, Edward (Beverly) Earle of Lockport, Jeanette Konieczny of Batavia and Loretta Bausch of Silver Lake; her sister-in-law, Marge Earle of Rochester and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her siblings; William, Jerry and Patrick Earle, Phyllis Griener, Stella Cirillo and Betty Minchin.

There are no prior visiting hours. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 17th, 2020 in the Father T. Bernard Kelly Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. He was born December 15, 1974, in Batavia, a son of James Nutting and Rebecca Judd.

Casey was employed by Advanced Auto Parts in Batavia. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, swimming and would try to do just about anything life gave him. He was an excellent cook and very much enjoyed Alaska, where he had lived previously for fifteen years.

He is survived by his mother, Rebecca (Daniel) Judd of Batavia. Father, James (Carolyn) Nutting of Summerfield, FL. Children, Sirius, Elora and Curtis Nutting, all of Alaska. Brothers, Corrie (Karen) Nutting of Tacoma, WA and Chad (Courtney) Judd of Batavia. Step-sister, Tammy (Roy) Martin of Summerfield, FL. Step-brothers, Joseph Lindsley of Medina and James Lusk of Summerfield, FL. Also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for sometime during the summer of 2021.

Pedro worked for many years at Oatka Milk Products and Comstock. He was an avid Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan. He played the guitar and enjoyed music. Pedro cherished his children, grand and great-grandchildren. He loved the Lord and introduced his children to God and an early age.

He is survived by his children; Victor Ayala of GA., Peter Ayala of Batavia, Vanessa (Ernest) Fullwood of PA., Margarite (William) Vascinne of N. Chili, Debra Ayala of NJ., Anita Ayala of Batavia, Donna (Henry) Rolle of Batavia and Diana Ayala; brothers Poncho, Antonio and Angelo Ayala, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sally was local business owner of Attica Furniture, the founder of Parsons Place Christian bookstore and Bloomz Florist, a devoted Christian and member of Sts. Joachim & Anne Parish, and the author of Rise Catholic Women. Sally was involved in many clubs including Sunshine Senders and countless other charitable organizations. Sally loved people and people loved her.

She is survived by her children Deborah Harding Stokes of Alexander, Jan (James) Latello of Darien, Ted (Nancy) Harding of Batavia, Kay (Bill) McDonald of Batavia, Tom (Rhonda) Harding of NC, Mary Alice “Chaz” (Jeff) Loucks of Attica, Mike (Tina) Harding of Attica, 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and with many nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Donald D. Hilbert, age 90, of Batavia passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Batavia.

Mr. Hilbert was born April 28, 1930 in Batavia, a son of the late Gerald L. Hilbert and Doris E. Dillon Hilbert.

Donald is the husband of Elizabeth A. Wahl Hilbert. They were married on August 5, 1961. He is also survived by his children; Steven (Brenda) Hilbert of Mauldin, South Carolina; Christopher (Wendy) Hilbert of Bergen, and Kimberly (Gardner) Holzhauser of Shacklesford, Virginia; seven grandchildren survive; Hennesey Kryston, Alissa Hilbert, Alex (Sarah)Hilbert, Alexandria Holzhauser, Danielle Holzhauser, Kassandra Holzhauser and Matthew Hilbert; his great-granddaughter; Georgia Goodrich; his brother; Reginald Hilbert of  Englewood, Florida along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Don is predeceased by his son, D. Michael Hilbert who passed away on August 30, 2020 and his brother, Sidney Hilbert who passed away in 1929.

Tom was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing. He was also an animal lover, especially to his 3 spoiled cats.  Tom retired from General Motors in Rochester NY.

Linda A. Pembrook, 69, of Batavia, passed away on November 15, 2019 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Linda was born April 30, 1950 in Elmira, a daughter of the late Harold and Anna (Chopyack) Pembrook

She was a member of Resurrection Parish and a retired math teacher from the Pavilion Central School District.

Surviving are her cousins, Susan (Rick) Nolan of Greenwich, Mary Chopyack of Montrose and Cathy Moriats of Manhattan, Bridget Lent of Greenwich, Zak Lent of Greenwich, Michael Nolan of Sunderland, VT and Michael Lawler of Sunderland, VT. 

There are no prior calling hours.  Linda’s Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.  Entombment was held at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the church will be limited to 50 person capacity and social distancing guidelines will be observed.  Also, face coverings will be mandatory.

Mr. Grazioplene was a member of Ascension and Resurrection Parishes, the former St. Nicholas Club, American Legion, D.A.V., VWF Post 1602 and Polish Falcons Nest 493.

Roger proudly served in the US Army from 1968-1970, went into NCO School and served in Vietnam 69’-70’. He was highly decorated, receiving the Purple Heart, a cluster of Bronze Stars, and many other commendations.

A man who loved sports, Roger played baseball and bowled for many years. He was also an avid golfer and played in a league with his buddies for decades.

He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 56 years Mary “Mickey” (Tenebruso) Grazioplene; son Roger (Martha) Grazioplene Jr.; daughter Bianca Grazioplene, grandchildren Maria, Porshe, Mercedes and great-grandson Lucah; sister Joyce (Joseph) Acitelli; sister-in-law Jeanette Grazioplene, along with many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her adoring husband Leon Moore Jr of Elba; mother Myrtle Gilbert; daughters Mary Moore (Lisa Carter) of Hilton Leanne Moore-Lickfield (Kris Lickfeld and his daughter Sophia) of Olean granddaughter/babycakes  Isabella George, grandson Abraven and great friend Cheryl Totten. 

Anne was born February 6, 1952. Anne worked within the Elba school district, providing multiple services to the people in the community that she so loved. 

She deeply loved her husband of nearly 50 years. They loved sipping on coffee and playing board games every morning. They took many countryside car rides together. The love that they shared was known to all who know them. They created countless memories that will never be forgotten, shared an epic love that will never end. She will forever be his bride and will always be his Annie. 

She was her children’s biggest cheerleader even after the sports were over. She was the family’s true pillar of strength. 

Anne was adored by all. She was often found in the kitchen cooking and baking for her family and friends. She took great pride in the food that brought the ones she loved together. Anne would have walked to the ends of the Earth for those in need.

Batavia - Elizabeth J. Suttell, age 94, of Batavia, longtime guidance counselor at LeRoy High School, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at her home.

Ms. Suttell was born December 22, 1925 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Edward B. Suttell and Clara (Lee) Suttell. 

Elizabeth received her undergraduate degree from D'Youville College where she graduated cum laude and was a member of Kappa Gamma Pi. Following her undergraduate work she received Master's Degrees from Cornell and Canisius Colleges. A lifetime member of Resurrection Parish, she was a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma International Society; a professional honorary society of women educators and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. She grew up with her cousin Theresa Lawrence, with whom she traveled extensively throughout the world. Prior to working at LeRoy Central School, she taught at the New York State School for the Blind. 

She is survived by seven nieces and nephews; Kathleen (Ritchie) Fisher, Richard (Ann Marie) Suttell, Edward “Ted” Suttell, Timothy (Paula) Suttell, Elizabeth (Craig) Lyons, Susan (Dick) Reynolds and Stephen Wilson. She is also survived by several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Her family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to her caregivers, especially Elaine Falker-Eick. 

She is predeceased by her siblings; Edward B. (Elsie) Suttell, Rita (Jack) Wilson and J. Richard (Mary Jane) Suttell and her niece, Kristine Suttell. 

There are no prior visiting hours.
