Sandra J. McAndrew

BYRON - Sandra J. McAndrew, 54, of Byron, passed away Thursday, (August 1, 2019), at Strong Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Sandra was born July 17, 1965, in Rochester, a daughter of Alvina M. (Barker) Bok of Rochester, and the late Andrew J. Bok.

She enjoyed crafting, working in her flower gardens, skiing, and spending time at her cottage in Pillar Point, NY.

Sandra is the wife of Walter "Tom" McAndrew, III of Byron.  The two were married on August 20, 1983.

Along with her mother and husband, she is survived by her daughters, Nicole (Matthew) Panek of Pavilion, Melissa McAndrew of Bergen, and Anita McAndrew of Pavilion; grandchildren, Harper Panek, Christopher and Logan McAndrew; a brother, Steven (Peg) Bok of Spencerport; sisters, Diane (Norm) Trembly of Hamlin, and Kathy Bok of Rochester.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Mrs. Antoinette Rose

Batavia - Antoinette Rose, age 99, of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born July 21, 1920, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Dominic and Laura Maggione Tiberio.

A longtime and devoted member of Ascension Parish, Mrs. Rose was a graduate from the Rochester Business Institute. Following her graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. and briefly worked for the federal government and was present for the 3rd Presidential Inauguration for Franklin D. Roosevelt. She worked for many years as the secretary to the chief dietician for the Batavia VA Medical Center in Batavia. She loved to read, play cards and Skip-Bo with her friends and grandchildren and working word search puzzle books. She had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother and prayed her rosary daily.

Her husband, Frank J. Rose, Sr., passed away on July 5, 1995.

She is survived by her son; Frank J. (Susann) Rose, Jr. of New Philadelphia Ohio; three grandchildren; Frank J. (Rebecca) Rose, III of Rocky River, Ohio, Lisa M. (Carl) DeCourcy of New Philadelphia, Ohio and Michelle A. (Anthony) Maltempi of Stow, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; Grace, Maria, Faith and Frank J. Rose IV; Colin DeCourcy and Valentina and Vinny Maltempi; her sister, Theresa Lovria of LeRoy and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She is predeceased by her brother, Nicholas Tiberio.

Richard S. "Dickie" Cordaro

Bergen ~ Richard S. "Dickie" Cordaro, age 68, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019, doing what he loved. He had a passion for skydiving, completing 7,355 jumps.

    

He was born October 1, 1950 in Batavia, a son of the late Samuel L. and Rose M. Onorati Cordaro.

     He is survived by his daughter, Heather (Brian Dobra) Cacner; grandchildren, Steven T. Cacner Jr., Abbey L. Cacner, Jazlyn J. Stone, and Selina M. Stone; significant other, Megan J. Ellinwood, her children, Jessica (Peter) Delcour, Richard (Liz) Mills and her grandchildren, William, Seth, Logan, Erik, Drake, Ryleeann, and Grace; brother, Samuel C. Cordaro; sister, Susan M. Cordaro, beloved canine child, "Sweetie", along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and skydiving family.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday, August 7 from 4 ~ 8 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 8 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.  Interment in St. Francis Cemetery will be private.

Gene C. Austin

BYRON - Gene C. Austin, 64, of Byron, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at United Memorial Hospital in Batavia.

Gene was born August 8, 1954, in Batavia, a son of the late Percy and Dorothy (Hart) Austin.

He was a Overhead Crane Operator for Alstom, Rochester, before retiring in 2018.  Gene was a member of the Byron Presbyterian Church, enjoyed car racing at Lime Rock Speedway, Camping and was a great NASCAR fan.   He was a former Boy Scout Leader.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki L.(Barnard) Austin, whom he married January 31, 1975; a daughter, Stacey J. Austin (Christopher Reynolds) of Attica; 2 sons, James C. (Aimee) Austin of South Byron and Joseph A. Austin (Erin Shaughnessy) of Batavia;, 3 grandchildren, Jasmine Coveny of Batavia, Austin Coveny of  Attica and Evan Austin of South Byron; 4 siblings, David (Sandy) Austin of Medina, Donna (Norbert) Barber of Batavia  Harold Austin (Marcia Lambert) of Byron and Howard (Helen) Austin of Batavia and several nieces and nephews. 

Friends may call on Monday from 3 to 5 pm at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia where services will immediately follow at 5 pm.  Private Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. Jeanne L. Allen

Jeanne L. Allen, 59 of Oakfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 30, 1960. She was born February 3, 2019 in Lackawanna to the late Otto (June Sherry) Mattle.  

Jeanne enjoyed shopping, going to Letchworth and her cats. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.    

She is survived by her beloved sons Joshua Fitch, Justin Allen; grandchildren Vivian, Conner, Mathias; siblings Kathy (David) Zechiel, John (Joan) Mattle, Dawn (Bob) Ogden, Jo Cummings, and David Mattle; along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Albert U. Strollo

Batavia - Albert U. Strollo, 88, of Batavia, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Albert was born March 29, 1931, in Batavia, a son of the late Albino and Carmella (Corrado) Strollo.

Albert was a hall of fame bowler having appeared on television for a number of weeks winning several tournaments. Albert also repeated as champion in the bowling tournaments.  He was a veteran serving with the United States Army during the Korean War.  Albert worked for the former Cecere Paving in Batavia.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.                   

Albert is a brother of the late Anthony (Jean) Strollo, Rose Strollo, Michael (Anna) Strollo, Fred (Mary) Strollo, Mary (Alphonse) Ficarella, Antoinette (John) O'Geen, Pauline (Joseph) O'Geen, Frances Miceli and Florence (Joseph) Macaluso.

There will be no prior calling hours. Albert's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Ascension Parish, 19 Sumner Street, Batavia.  He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Batavia with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Albert's memory may be made to Ascension Parish, 19 Sumner Street, Batavia, NY 14020.

Raymond M. Follett

ATTICA - Raymond M. Follett, 66, of Attica, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Raymond was born August 19, 1952, in Batavia, the son of the late Raymond M. and Jean (Wojtacha) Follett.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from SUNY Brockport and was an Instructor's Assistant at the NYS School for the Blind in Batavia, prior to retiring in 2016.  Raymond was a 3rd Degree Knight with Council 2240, Wyoming County Knights of Columbus at St. Joachim and Anne Church where he was an active participant in the clothing drive.  He was a member of the NYS Teacher’s Association, was an avid Yankees fan, enjoyed hockey, gardening and was at home in the out of doors.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Darlene (Cupicha) Follett of Attica, whom he married on October 19, 1985; a daughter, Sara Jean (David) Pollock of Batavia; a son, Daniel (Brooke) Follett of Batavia; a sister, Kathleen Follett of Glenden Beach OR; and a beloved niece, Maura Cupicha of Wyoming.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St. in Batavia. Raymond's Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Parish's - St. Joseph's Church, 303 E. Main St., Batavia with Fr. Ivan Trujilio officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Audrey B. Mosier

Audrey B. Mosier, 89, who resided at Genesee Heights Estates in Corfu, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019.

Audrey was born on February 16, 1930 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Orlo and Alta Hamilton Berg. She was the wife of the late Clayton Mosier and grandmother of the late Alan Mosier. Audrey’s friend, Clyde Starkweather, with whom she resided, passed away in December 2011.

Audrey is survived by her four children; Daryl (Laurie) Mosier of Williamsburg, VA, Rodney (Debra) Mosier of Elba, Paulette (the late Dennis) Vail of Tucson, AZ and Michele (Robert) Daniel of Akron. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and her sister JoAnn (Wally) Wickings of Batavia. 

As per Audrey’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Private services at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403 Batavia, NY 14021.

Joann M. Szymanski

Joann M. Szymanski, 70 of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday morning ( July 30, 2019) at home with her loving sisters by her side.

She was born September 7, 1948 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary Szymanski.

She attended ARC Day Hab, where she made numerous Friends including loving Aides. Joann loved to spend her spare time at the lake with family and friends. She enjoyed watching television with her favorite shows including I Love Lucy, Waltons, Little House on The Prairie and other older tv programs on TMC. She will be sadly missed as she touched so many hearts.

She is preceded in death by her parents, aunt Rose Bachulak and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by two sisters, Jeanette “Sam” Szymanski and Theresa Szymanski, both of Batavia. Nephew, Christopher (Jackie) Downs. Also survived by aunts and several cousins.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Friday (August 2nd) from 4-7pm at the J. LEONARD McANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia, where a funeral service will be Saturday at 10am. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Sheryl Jean Gordon

PORTSMOUTH - Sheryl Jean Gordon (Nee McCracken), 57, went into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. She was born in Rochester, NY on February 10, 1962. She graduated from Byron-Bergen Central School in 1980 and was the first in her family to earn a bachelor’s degree in 1986. She was predeceased by her father, Ronald E. McCracken, and brother-in-law, D. Lee Davis.

Sheryl taught school in Rochester, NY until 1990 when she moved to Chesapeake, VA area where she taught at Greenbrier Christian Academy. In 1997 she joined Scott Taylor Pastering, Inc., where she was office manager for over 20 years. She married Paul Gordon on May 19, 2007 and they attended Freedom Baptist Church in Chesapeake. Sheryl received Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 10 and remained wholly devoted to her Lord her entire life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Gordon; mother, Beverly (Eugene) Fee McCracken Widdowson; mother-in-law, Sandra (Ron) West; son, Angelo Gordon; sisters, Patricia McCracken Davis, Cathleen (Ken) Worthington, Lori-Beth (Mark) Woodruff, Lisa (Daniel) Rieks; brother-in-law, Grady Gordon; very dear special friends, Melanie, Scott, Andrew and Hannah Taylor; two grandchildren; twenty-two nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Batavia, NY on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 7 PM with a light reception prior at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, 308 Centerville Turnpike North , Chesapeake, VA 23320 

 

Betty M. Smith

Betty M. Smith, 87 of Palmetto, FL, formerly of Corfu, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, FL.  

She was born on September 19, 1931 in Batavia, NY, a daughter of the late Carlos and Margaret Stoneham Hamilton.  She is also predeceased by her husband of 45 years Loran, son Rodney, and brother Bruce Hamilton.

Betty worked for M&T Bank in Corfu for 27 years before retiring and moving to Florida.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter Deborah Staebell (G Gonzalez), grandson Rodney “Chip” (Patty) Smith, daughter-in-law Jill Smith (Mike Mager), granddaughter Meghan Gallagher, sister-in-law Ellen Hamilton, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and a nephew.

Family will be present to greet friends on Saturday, August 3rd from 4 to 7 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu, NY.  A memorial service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

LAURA A. GRANT

LAURA A. GRANT ~ Age 55, of Basom, died Friday June 28, at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Laura was born May 21, 1964 in Buffalo, NY to the late Robert and Judith (Weber) Grant.

Laura had a love of animals, especially bird watching and rescuing pets along with being outdoors.

Surviving is her beloved son, Daniel Mancuso of Rochester and her loving fiancé, Gerald Ryder of Basom.

In keeping with Laura’s wishes there is no prior visitation and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorials in her memory are suggested to the ASPCA or the National Audubon Society.

Dennis W. White

Dennis W. White born August 15, 1942 (son of the late Almer and Myrtle White) former resident of Akron and Batavia NY, passed peacefully at his home in Carlsbad, New Mexico on October 30, 2018.

Loving father to Natalie White, Michelle White, James (Trena) White, Sarah Tsirtsakis, and Jennifer (Nick) Parisi. Brother to Maggie (Brian) Tiedt, Ruth (John) Grover, Richard (Fran) White, Susan Trinkle, the late Robert White.

Dennis is survived by 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life memorial for family and friends will be held on August 24, 2019 from 1-5 p.m. at Newstead Skyline Park across from the east entrance to Akron Falls Park.

Alice L. Harlach

Corfu -- Alice L. Harlach, 75, of Corfu, NY died July 24, 2019 at Buffalo General Hospital after a short illness. Alice was born September 10, 1943 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Mildred Bucci. Preceded in death by her husband Paul “Skip” Harlach and siblings Joseph Jr., Louis (Donna), and Rose. 

She is survived by her daughters Cindy (Herbie) Froebel and Jackie (Stephen) Swimline, 5 grandchildren Robin (Jeffrey) Czwojdak, Chad (Stephanie) Froebel, Allison (Michael) Czwojdak, Beau (Caroline) Froebel, Luke (Kari) Swimline, her brother Ralph, nephew Robert, her cute great grandchildren, Connor, Tessa, Ella, Theo, Grant, Rhen, and soon-to-be Veronica, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. 

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always put her family first.

Joseph Topor

Joseph Topor, 84, of Darien Center, passed away on July 25, 2019. He was born on April 30, 1935 in Buffalo, NY.

Joseph was a Fireman for the Buffalo Fire Department for over 30 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Bennington. Joe was loved by many and will be missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Joseph is survived by his children, April Cummings, of Boston, NY, Thomas Cadena, of Denmark WI, and Shanon (Kyle) King, of Hatley, WI.
