BARBARA B. (MEEMA) STROLLO

By Michael Tomaszewski

BARBARA B. (SCHUMACHER) STROLLO ~ Batavia

Dear Meema—Born May 17, 1929 in Kitchener, Ontario, daughter of the late Victor and Aileen (Keough) Schumacher. On May 21, 2017, four days after her 88th birthday, she excused herself from this life. Patsy, her beloved husband for more than a half century, has been sitting in the car for six years, waiting for her to get ready so that he can drive her uptown. He’ll take her to visit all those she loved who have left this world before her, Bobby, Leo & William Schumacher, Frances Cinquino, Marie Racine, Jewell Kipfer, Katherine Schumacher along with her precious granddaughter, Michelle.

Mrs. Strollo was a member of the former St. Anthony's Church, its Altar & Rosary Society and the St. Anthony's Home School Association, as her children grew she spent many years as the "Lunch Lady" at the school.

She was the axis of her family; the single, sturdy point around which they revolved. She was strong enough to hold all together. Now, her family is held together by the memories of her spirit; memories of her genuine laughter when teased by her sons, of her warmth when grandkids melted into her hugs, and of the competitive (even ruthless) card playing and crokinole skills. But the one memory that united all of her family was her joy of cooking. Her love language was food; in every cookie she perfected, every pie she crafted, every ravioli she mastered, love was there, unpretentious and authentic. These memories have sustained the family through the difficulties of the last decade. Now that she has left this world completely, these memories will continue to carry them forward. Sleep with the angels, Meema.

Surviving are her six loving children, Therese (Len) Hanel of Grand Island, Patrick (Sharon) Strollo of St. Louis, MO, Marie (Stacey) Thompson of Batavia, Tom (Donna) Strollo of Chicago, Mary Ellen (John) Kososki of Spencerport, and David (Judy) Strollo of Peekskill, NY; sister, Pat (William) Wunder of Kitchener; sister-in-law, Lucy Bucciferro of Batavia; brother-in-law, Joseph Cinquino of Batavia, sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews survive.

The Strollo family invites all family and friends to join them in celebrating mom's Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am Tuesday May 23 at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary's Site) followed by her burial alongside Patsy in St. Joseph's Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials will greatly appreciated to, LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home 10 Munson St. LeRoy, NY 14482 or Notre Dame High School 73 Union St. Batavia, NY 14020 for the: Patsy & Barbara Strollo Scholarship Fund.

Please share your thoughts, prayers and fond memories with the Strollo family at www.tomaszewskifh.com

THE STROLLO FAMILY WISHES TO EXPRESS THEIR MOST SINCERE GRATITUDE TO THE LEROY VILLAGE GREEN AND STAFF FOR MAKING THE LAST NINE YEARS THEIR HOME AWAY FROM HOME WITH MOM. THE GENUINE CARE, COMPASSION & PATIENCE GIVEN MOM AND FAMILY WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

THE STROLLO FAMILY WAS CARED FOR BY THE MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 WEST MAIN STREET ROAD BATAVIA, NEW YORK 14020.

Stephen J. McArthur

By T.J. Woodward

Stephen J. McArthur, 71, of Alexander, succumbed to cancer at his home surrounded by his family on May 16, 2017.  He was born on October 9, 1945, in Warsaw, NY, to the late John and Margaret (Meeder) McArthur.

“Are you ever going to amount to anything?”  Many are still searching for an answer to Steve’s favorite question.

Steve was truly a selfless man who dedicated his life to his family—a loving husband to Donna his wife of 51 years; an exceptional father and role model to his two daughters; and an adoring grandfather to his grandchildren.  In order to spend more time with his family Steve retired from Norfolk Southern in 2006 after 42 years of service as a signalman in the railroad industry.  He was fortunate to turn his childhood love of trains into a career that he enjoyed every day and freely shared this passion with others.  In his early years, Steve enjoyed playing sports—baseball and wrestling.  He volunteered many years with the Tri-Town Youth Athletics as a softball coach and board member and mentored many young athletes.  Later, he would be his grandchildren’s biggest fan and would frequently be found watching them play sports, dance, sing, cheer, and play music—even if it meant a plane ride to get there.  Steve also enjoyed a good western movie (and a few bad ones), coin collecting, and a good debate.  Helping friends, extended family, and sometimes strangers was always a priority. Steve was a proud U.S. Army Veteran.

Steve is survived by his wife, Donna, daughters Wendy McArthur (Robert Moon) of Cumming, GA and Jenifer (Jason) Dean of Alexander; siblings Thomas (Glenda) McArthur of Valrico, FL and Judy (Keith) Rowe of Warsaw, NY; 5 loving grandchildren Devin, Lucy, Zachary, Cole & Margo, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.  He was predeceased by siblings Donald McArthur and Eileen Moyer.

A special thank you to Steve’s longtime friends and dedicated family members who never wavered in their support and to Homecare & Hospice of Genesee County for their care.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday May 21, 2017 at Marley Funeral Home, LLC 135 Main Street Attica, New York 14011. Funeral Services will be at 11:00AM on Monday, May 22nd at the Funeral Home.  Steve will be laid to rest in the Railroad Avenue Cemetery in Alexander.
