Age 91, died peacefully Friday June 9, 2017 at Premier Genesee Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following a brief illness. He was born February 11, 1926 in Buffalo, NY to the late Walter (Frances Mehnert) Doehring, also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth in 2014 and brother, Donald in 2015. 

Walter loved to reminisce about spending summers with his brother at their grandparent's house in Linden, NY when they were young. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman/Telegrapher (1944-1946). Walter was hired as one of the original faculty members when the Genesee Community College opened its doors in September of 1967. A Professor of Accounting, he retired after 30+ years. He will be remembered by the many students he taught over the years. His children will always remember the summer camping trips when Dad would always insist on "taking the road less travelled". 

Surviving are his eight children, James  (Richard Episcopo), Thomas (Steven Chalfant), Jack (Gareth), Daniel (Anna), Andrew (Sandra), Sarah, Rachel (David) Fasano, William (Phoebe); five grandchildren, William, Matthew, Zalya, Stella and Erin.

Corfu - Mary Rose Silliman, 88, of Corfu, passed away Friday (June 9, 2017) at United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia.

 

Mary was born September 15, 1928, in Wethersfield, NY, one of 11 children of William and Mabel Niver Rosborough. She was the last surviving of her brothers and sisters. Mary was the wife of the late Everett Silliman and grandmother of the late Mary Silliman. She loved going to church and seeing all her friends there and going to the daycare she attended. 

 

Surviving are her children, Elizabeth Ryan, Raymond Silliman, Ruby Silliman and Harry Silliman; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Family and friends may call Wednesday, June 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary Inc., 4 E. Main St., Corfu. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 15 at 11 a.m. at High Point Church, 1163 Main Road, Corfu. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu, NY.

Batavia - Anne Marie Bush, 53, of Batavia, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday under the care of HomeCare & Hospice and her family.

She was born November 9, 1963 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Thomas D. Emerson, Sr. and Marie O'Keefe.

A registered nurse for 12 years, she most recently was working at the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Service in Albion. 

She is survived by her husband, Ralph J.  Bush; her children, Christian (Matthew) Townes of Perry, Brandon Culliton and Bryan (Brooke) Culliton, both of Batavia; six grandchildren, Eithan & Eli, Chloe and Peyton & Austin; her children’s father, Michael K. Culliton, Jr.; three brothers: Thomas D. Emerson, Jr. of Oklahoma, Dennis Emerson of Hawaii and James Emerson of Batavia; two sisters: Patricia M. Caleb of Medina and Kathryn Keenan of Farmington; 20 nieces and nephews, 19 great-nieces and great-nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is predeceased by her niece, Melissa Mae Emerson and her brother-in-law, Bruce Caleb.

There are no prior visiting hours. LeRoy ~ Charles C. Cordaro, age 87, formerly of West Main Street, passed away early Sunday morning (June 11, 2017) at the Batavia Health Care Center.

     Mr. Cordaro had a special love for his family, especially his grandson, Austin.  He also had a passion for motorcycles and was a proud U.S. Marine Veteran.

     He is survived by his loving daughter, Maggie Cordaro of Stafford; grandson, Austin Bogue; his siblings, Antoinette D'Pasquale of Avon, Mary (Louie) Ferrara of LeRoy, Betty Merica of LeRoy, Margaret (Jim) Gravanda of LeRoy, Rachel Abbott of Las Vegas, NV, Theresa Hamler of LeRoy, Rito Cordaro (Leslie) of Pavilion and Joann Yamonaco of Avon, along with many nieces,  nephews and dear friends.

     He was predeceased by his wife, Carole Cordaro in 2008 and his brothers, Samuel Cordaro and Joseph Cordaro.

     Family and friends are invited to his Memorial Mass on Friday, June 16 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy.  Interment with military honors will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.

Mrs. Jacobs was a lifetime member of Ascension Parish and longtime member of Polish Falcons. She was commander of Disabled American Veterans #166, past president of both the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

She is survived by her beloved children James (Jennifer) Jacobs, Georgene (Rocco) DellaPenna, Maxine (Brian) Dioguardi all of Batavia; sisters Helen DeJongh of Texas; Florence Pontillo of Batavia; Lorraine (Carl) Dilcher of Oakfield; Marcie Weicher of Byron; Rose Mary Christian of Batavia; 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

John was a fun loving husband, father and friend to many people.  He was a retired Corrections Officer for the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, NY.  John enjoyed many outside activities including fishing, hunting, camping, riding his motorcycle and just being around family and friends, as well as his pets. He was also a great story teller and had a love for NASCAR and Buffalo Bills Football.

He is survived by his loving wife; Bonnie Saravullo of Pavilion; son Nick Saravullo of Pavilion; mother and father in law; several brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was born April 6, 1941 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Marlo and Esther Buchele Perry.

Mr. Perry held a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science from Michigan State University, with a focus in Dairy Business, as well as an honorary doctorate from Buffalo State College. 

A lifelong resident of Akron, NY, he began his career in the family ice cream business at the age of 14.  He was the third-generation Perry family member to lead the organization started by his grandfather, H. Morton Perry, dedicating his life to growing the organization.  As president/CEO, he led the development of long-term business strategies and goals for Perry’s Ice Cream and oversaw all aspects of the organization until he retired.

One of his most significant achievements was the planning and execution of the move of Perry’s corporate headquarters to Ice Cream Plaza in 1982.  After retiring as President/CEO in 2000, he remained involved until 2016 as Chairman, responsible for managing the Board of Directors and also acting as a consultant/advisor to the organization until his retirement to Chairman Emeritus last year.  Tom’s favorite flavor was Butter Fudge Almond.

In December 1962, he married Marilyn Peterson whose support and dedication to raising their three children allowed him to focus on the family business.

Mr. Perry served the local community by volunteering his time as a member of The Akron Lions Club and Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Akron. Through the years, he held the positions of Treasurer of the Akron Masonic Lodge, Village of Akron Mayor, and Trustee for 20 years.  He also served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Akron and Ford Gum.  He was actively involved with the First United Methodist Church in Akron, NY, being a member of numerous committees throughout the years.

He was very involved in the dairy/ice cream industry, having served as the International Ice Cream Association’s (IICA) Treasurer (1989-1991).  Mr. Perry was the recipient of numerous awards, such as The Virginia Dare Award and “The President’s Award” (1963), International Ice Cream Association, “Soaring Eagle: Above & Beyond The Call of Duty” Award (1999). He was named Akron Citizen of the Year (2002) and MDA, “Humanitarian of the Year” (2003). He also received The Abraham Lincoln Leadership Award (2004). 

After his retirement, Mr. Perry and his wife, Marilyn divided their time between Akron, NY and Sarasota, FL.  He enjoyed reading, traveling and watching Siesta Key Beach sunsets. His children were his pride and joy.  He loved and cherished his grandchildren, celebrating their joys and achievements.

Tom was the cornerstone of strength in the foundation of his family.  He had a combination of strong character, humble demeanor and core values of a “good man”.  Everyone who knew him sensed his love of life, warmth and positive nature.  He weathered the storms of life with courage and the grace that came from his deep faith in God.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by their three children, Brian (Jayne) Perry of Akron, Gayle (Robert) Denning of Clarence Center, and Marcia (Alvaro) Rodriguez of St. Charles, IL; 8 grandchildren, Jenna Perry, Leah, Paige, Lindsay, and Noah Denning, Claire, Lauren, and Rachel Rodriguez; sister, Linda (Joseph) Capan of Akron and Allyn (Marilyn) Perry of Wilson; aunt, Betty Perry Meyer of Scottsdale, AZ. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Tom was the brother of the late Dale Perry.

A celebration of life will be at J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, on Wednesday (June 7th) from 5-8pm and Thursday (June 8th) from 12-3pm and 6-9pm at 32 John St., Akron, NY. Funeral Services will be Friday, 10am at the Akron First United Methodist Church, 7 Church St., Akron.

Lebanon, Tennessee – Mrs. Phyllis M. Skelton, 88, of Lebanon, Tennessee, a longtime resident of Elba, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Quality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing in Lebanon.

Mrs. Skelton was born June 10, 1928 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Arthur and Cora Nonnengard Blair.

Her husband, Edward P. Skelton, passed away on February 25, 1999.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Gerald) Rumsey of Brush Creek, Tennessee, Carol (late John) Pascuzzo of Piffard, Linda Herrington of Lebanon, Tennessee, William (Cindy) Skelton of Chiefland, Florida, Richard (Susan) Skelton of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Steven Skelton of Christiana, Tennessee; 32 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Skelton is predeceased by two grandsons, Billy Majors and Scott Sharp, a great-grandson, Brian Herrington and is the sister of the late Donald Blair, Norman (Ruth) Blair and Thelma (Henry) Hanson.

He is survived by his devoted wife; Ruth (Brady) Hulshoff; loving daughter Linda; grandson Kage and great grandson Tyler Hatt.

Widely known as the talented bass drummer and Director of the Alexander Fireman’s Band for the past 60 years which he led all over Western New York. The band was Bob’s passion and he developed lasting friendships with multiple generations of families. He was a lifetime member of the Alexander Fire Department, volunteering and holding several positions, including President.  Bob served the community of Alexander as a Village board member for 40 years and the Mayor for one term. He was the Chairman of the Town of Alexander Republican Committee for 30 years, a member of the American Legion and VFW Beachhead where he was President for 20 years. Bob served in the United States Army from 1950 – 1953, then worked on the railroad until 1956. He went to work as a guard at Attica Prison where he retired in 1990. Bob was a weapons and self defense instructor, responsible for qualifying all officers in these practices. He teamed with the NYS Troopers and was on the front line during the riot takeover in 1971 and received personal commendation for his role in this tragic event which changed so many lives forever. Bob was an excellent marksman and taught multitudes of people how to shoot safely. He created the Rifle Club, conducted in the Alexander High School gym, teaching marksmanship to many teenagers. He taught hunter safety classes for countless people getting their hunting licenses.

Bob also had a side business in the 70’s installing TV’s in the surrounding counties. He was a member of the Attica Rod & Gun Club and loved hunting and fishing. Bob was a talented carpenter and built his home with his family and friends. He loved gardening, caring for his lawn and most anything that had to do with the outdoors. Bob was an awesome teacher among his family, band, employment and many other arena’s. He touched thousands of lives and was loved by thousands more. Our community has lost a truly great man.

Age 94, died peacefully Sunday June 4, 2017 at Crossroads House and went to be with her husband Thomas G. Steele who died 1985. She was born June 24, 1922 in Oakfield, NY to the late Raymond and Mary (Boorm) Burr also preceded in death by a brother, Addison Harmon; sisters, Lillian Tripp, Lottie Strobel and her beloved dog, Patty Jean.

Arlene was retired from P.W. Minor Shoe Co. and the former Richland's Shoe Store and was a lifelong member of the Oakfield Methodist Church. She was a member of Volunteers for Animals and the Historical Society of Oakfield. She loved to spend time in her flower gardens and to be outdoors, she enjoyed Bingo and crossword puzzles and for many, many years after her retirement she held a morning "Coffee Hour" in her kitchen for anyone to attend.

Surviving is her sister, Ida Harmon of E. Henrietta; nephews, Danny, Theodore, Ira & John Harmon; nieces, Mary Dailor and Linda Henry; extended family and friends, George (Gail) & Brandi Hull, Jeff Hull and his son, Cooper, Jason (Monique) Hull and their son, Dempsey, Dixie Sporer, Matt (Debbie) Martin, Bob (Dee) Eddy, Joyce (Jerry) Seaman, Tony (Mary) Palloni and Suzie Schultz.

Died peacefully Thursday evening June 1, 2017 at her home while under the care of Hospice and her loving family at the age of 91. She was born October 23, 1925 in New Orleans, LA daughter of the late Morris and Hilda (Cormia) Marquez also preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Falls in 2005 and grandson, Lionel Anderson in 1988.                                                                                                           

Lena will be remembered for her strong faith and being a loving, caring, devoted mother. 

Surviving are her loving children, Henry (Barbara) Davis of NC and their children, Henry (Karen) Davis, Jr., Denise Davis, Shelly (Larry) Patterson and Danielle Davis; Edward (Eveline) Davis of Indiana and their children, Edward, Sabrina, Shenelle, Sammy & Eric Davis; Alfred Anderson of Batavia and his children, Lionel, Jacquana, Aleisha & Dominque Anderson; 28 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews survive.

Mr. Lent was born in East Williston, NY a son of the late, Alvin F. and Lillian W. (Adams) Lent, he served honorably in the US Army during WWII and worked most of his life as a Civil Engineer. He enjoyed flying, go-cart racing, tennis and was an amateur artist.
