Cheryl M. Lyons

Batavia - Cheryl M. Lyons, 52, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at her home in Batavia.

Cheryl was born October 30, 1965 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Cora Lyons.

She is survived by her children: Angel Sumeriski of Buffalo, Morgan Cox, Jr. and Dakota White, both of Batavia; five grandchildren: Ryan Joseph Cox, Michael Sumeriski, II, Chevelle Sumeriski, Cameron Sumeriski and Sophie Mackey; her brother: Nikki Lyons; her sister: Alicia Lyons of Batavia and nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her daughter, Heavenly Rose Lyons.

Thomas Frederick Covington

Ocala, Florida - Thomas Frederick Covington, 61, passed away March 17, 2018. Born June 26, 1956, in Batavia, to William Charles and Bertha Jean Robbins Covington. He graduated from Byron-Bergen Central School and moved to Marion County, FL in 1984. He spent his entire career in agriculture and the agricultural equipment sales and service fields including: CY Farms, Elba; Tri-County Tractor/Empire Tractor, Batavia; Ag Equipment, Oakfield; Marion Tractor/Ag Pro, Ocala, FL; and Bobcat & Kubota of Ocala/Agricon Equipment, Ocala, FL. Tom enjoyed traveling, camping, sports cars, and flying. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Sheryl Marie Covington (March 20-22, 1977), his half-sister Virginia Mary Leahy, his in-laws Michael and Alice Barniak; his brother-in-law, David M. Barniak; and faithful pets Tammy, Oscar, Penny, Misty, Zelda, and Sandy. 

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Barniak Covington whom he married on June 12, 1976 and their dog Coco; sisters, Claudia Mitchell, Susan (Kelly) Schuler, Robin (David) Drawdy; brother-in-law, Anthony (Elaine) Barniak; sister-in-law Ann (Earl) Roth; and nieces and nephews David, Wendy, Janice, Erik, Jill, Karen, Alan, Brandon, Alicia, Kaitlyn, and Bill; and close family friend, Joan Bezon.

Thomas’s Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Resurrection Parish, St. Joseph’s Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.   He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Genevieve E. Kryzan

East Pembroke - Genevieve E. Kryzan, 92 of East Pembroke, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 after a long illness.
 
Mrs. Kryzan was the Owner/Operator of C. C. Day & Son, Inc., petroleum distributor. She was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother that enjoyed sewing, bowling, camping and taking care of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Kryzan and her son, Curtis L. Kryzan.
 
She is survived by her daughters, Ingrid J. (Lee) Stone, Carole S. Kryzan and Kimberly A. (Dale) Weatherbee; grandchildren, Adam R. (Chris) Stone, Helen N. Stone, Nathan L. Stone, Bryn A. (Rick) Costich, Ian W. (Lyndsi) Weatherbee, Justyne B. Weatherbee; 9 great grandchildren; her sister, Gwendolyn J. Tupper and several nieces and nephews.
 
Family and friends may call Friday, March 23, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Steven Durfee

  Steven Durfee, age 64, of Bennington passed away on Sunday March 18, 2018 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute surrounded by his family after a 15 year battle against Multiple Myeloma. Steve was born in Warsaw on April 13, 1953 to the late Roger Durfee and Barbara (Motts) Bradt.

Steve retired from Attica Correctional Facility in 2016 as a vocational welding instructor. Previous to that he worked for Monroe Tractor Implement in Batavia and also part time for Land Pro Equipment (Goodridge Farm Supply). He was a member of the Bennington Volunteer Fire Company. Steve enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, golfing and hunting, but especially loved helping his friends and neighbors.  His unfailing positive attitude and selflessness will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years; Mary Jean (Gecewicz); two sons Mickey (Elissa) and Greg (Nicole); granddaughter Sophia; brothers-in-law, sister-in-law; stepmother Jean (Daube) Durfee; sister Julie Durfee; step brothers and sisters from the Daube and Bradt family along with nieces and nephews.

Michael G. Shaughnessy

  Michael G. Shaughnessy, 58 of Perry, passed away on Saturday March 17, 2018 at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo. He was born in Warsaw on April 27, 1959 to Evelyn (Wood) Shaughnessy of Perry and the late Gerald A. Shaughnessy who passed away in 1967.

Michael worked for the Town of Perry as their mechanic. He enjoyed building and driving race cars. He was a well-known race car driver at the Wyoming County International Speedway for many years.

He is survived by his 2 daughters: Michelle Lipke of Holley and Erin Shaughnessy of Batavia, mother: Evelyn Shaughnessy of Perry, sister: Kellie (Michael “Scrappy”) Chenaille of Livonia, 2 granddaughters: Hayley and Alyssa Lipke, nephew: Michael Ebner, along with many cousins and friends.

Jennie Wiktorski

Jennie Wiktorski, 101 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Thursday (March 15, 2018) at the Batavia Heath Care Center.

She was born June 25, 1916 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Jacob and Caroline Bugansky Adamczyk.

Jennie and her late husband operated the family farm in Darien and was also employed by Chapins and Kisiel Die Casting prior to her retirement. She was a parishioner of Ascension Parish and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She was the wife of the late Ignatius Wiktorski, who died in 1986 and sister of the late Henry Adamczyk,  Stanley Adamczyk, Helen Luplow and four siblings from Poland, Frank, John, Stefa, and Sofia . Mother in-law of the late Barbara Wiktorski and Frank Ball.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald Wiktorski of Batavia and Daniel Wiktorski of Texas. Daughter, Marcia (Rick) Leaton of Florida. Sister, Eleanor Bialkowski of Batavia.  Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Tuesday (March 20th) from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  Jennie’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 9:00am at Ascension Parish (S. Swan St.). Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

The Ascension Parish Rosary Society will recite the rosary on Tuesday, 1:30pm at the funeral home.

THOMAS JOHN "TOMMY" MANZELLA

Thomas John "Tommy” Manzella, age 24, of Batavia, NY passed away at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia surrounded by his family. He was born in Newfane, NY on March 8, 1994 to Vincent (Lori) Manzella of Batavia and Julie (Keith) Kuzara of Akron, and was preceded in death by his grandfather John Manzella; uncle Ed Blackford.

Tommy graduated from Oakfield-Alabama High School in 2012 and is a 2016 graduate of SUNY Cortland where he majored in fitness & development, and enjoyed spending time in the gym. He was currently working at the United States Gypsum in Oakfield, NY. He enjoyed playing video games, playing with his dog Rocco, spending time with his girlfriend Kiana, best friend Little Chris Manes, and numerous family and friends.

Surviving along with his parents are his girlfriend (Kiana), his three brothers: Andrew of Newfane, NY, Chase (Brianna) of Yuma, Arizona, and Pauly of Batavia, NY; half-brother Dustin; grandmother Joanie Penvose of Middleport, NY; grandparents Robert and Germaine Osborne of Fuquay-Varina, NC; aunt Janet Blackford (Dean) of Adams, NY ; uncle Frank (Libby) Manzella of Clearance, NY; uncle Tony (Diane) of Hamlin, NY; uncle Robert (Cheryl) Osborne of Holly Springs, NC; aunt Maria (Nate) Henson of Fuquay-Varina, NC; uncle Joseph Osborne of Buffalo, NY; and many cousins and friends that loved him dearly. Additionally, he was very close with the Manes Family of Oakfield, NY.

The Manzella family will be present from 2 - 8pm on Wednesday March 21, 2018 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road, Batavia, 14020 where a Celebration of Life Service will take place 11am Thursday March, 22. Kathleen Ann Parker

Mrs. Kathleen Ann Parker, age 74, of Batavia, NY and more recently of Smyrna, GA passed away surrounded by her loved ones, Sunday March 11, 2018.  Kathy was born October 1, 1943 in Batavia, NY to the late Herman and Frances Gabriel. 

Kathy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, baking cookies and watching her grandchildren.

Kathy is preceded in death by her husband Raymond “Bink” Parker; sisters Irene Bradway Busch and Beatrice Heinman.  She is survived by her daughter Candie and husband Sal Della Penna (Batavia, NY) and her son Daniel and wife Saralee Parker (Smyrna, GA) and their two children Garrett and Haley. Kathy is also survived by her brother in law, Tim Jones, and sister in law Pam Booth and many nieces and nephews.

Susan M. Wesp

  Susan M. Wesp, 60, a longtime resident of Attica, Cowlesville and Varysburg went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2018 at her home. She was born in Buffalo on January 12, 1958 to the late Willis and Alice (Kruszynski) Wesp.

Sue was retired from Erie County and had a devoted respect for nature and animals, caring for them with a loving heart.

She is survived by a brother, sister, a niece and three nephews.

Lillian "Peggy" Woods King

Lillian “Peggy” Woods King, age 77, of Batavia entered into eternal rest on Tuesday March 13, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

She was born on October 8, 1940 in West Chester, PA to Herbert T. Woods and Lottie E. Walton Woods. She was preceded in death by her siblings, James, Daniel, Jenny, John “Jack”, Charles “Marty”, Sam and Leroy “Punkin”.

She loved fishing, going for long rides in the country, spending time with her family and going on trips to PA to see her hometown. She loved the holidays and always had the best door decorations at her apartment complex. She was known for making the best stuffing around and for always being super early for everything. She loved her family more than anything and she enjoyed spending time with all of them. She welcomed everyone into her home and considered them her children. She will be greatly missed and her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband, Theodore (Teddy), sons Robert (Cindy) Bucci, William (Shelly) Bucci, Charles (Nicole) Bucci and daughters Sandra (Dewey) Knapp, Bonnie (Phil) Privitera, Peggy (Herbert) Scroger, Deanna Bucci, stepchildren, Donna King, Katie (David) Kinney, Theodore (Lynette) King and 28 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Friday March 16, 2018 from 5-8pm at the Oakfield-Alabama Baptist Church, 2210 Judge Rd, Oakfield, NY 14125. Funeral Services will be Saturday March 17 at 11:00am at the church.

Myrtle Murtagh

Myrtle Murtagh, 82, of Batavia passed away peacefully on March 11, 2018 at Crossroads House in Batavia. She was born on December 25, 1935 in Langol, OH to the late Frank and Beile (Bowling) Hacker. In addition to her parents, Myrtle is predeceased by her daughter Karen E. Biegas; brothers Earl and Walter Bowling, Virgil and Vernon Hacker; sister Geneva Snyder.

Myrtle was an avid bowler, loved doing crafts and most of all spending time with her grandchildren camping. She was a long time employee at Delco in Rochester.

She is survived by her sons; Michael (Dee DiPasquale) Murtagh of Rochester and Thomas Murtagh of Batavia; sisters Anna Lee (Ray) Curtis and Mary Wells; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Kennedy Rose McCullough

Wyoming - Kennedy Rose McCullough, infant daughter of Ashley Bates and Richard McCullough of Wyoming passed away at birth on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo.

Surviving along with her parents are her grandparents; Audra Bates of Byron, Dean Bates of LeRoy and Patricia (Tom) Williams of Byron; her great-grandfather; David Oderkirk of Stafford; aunts and uncles; Andrew Williams, Lauren Williams, Dylan Bates and Kerri Bates, all of Byron. Kennedy is also survived by great-aunts and great-uncles.

Robert M. Irvine III

Robert M. Irvine III, 32 of Perry, passed away on Wednesday March 7, 2018. He was born in Warsaw on November 26, 1985 to the late Audrey (Long) Irvine and Robert M. (Stacy) Irvine Jr. of Rushford.

Robert was currently working as a mechanic at Edward Arnold Scrap Processors Inc. in Corfu, NY. He enjoyed fishing, racing dirt bikes, doing mechanic work on the side and spending time at Paul’s Cycle Shop.

He is survived by wife Kari J. (Herbert) Irvine of Warsaw; daughter Brooklyn Herbert of Warsaw; sisters Kimberly (Curtis) Schroth of Pavilion; Cassandra Irvine of Albion; aunt Carol (Carl) Weber of Perry; uncle David (James Lockner) Long of Crystal River, FL; girlfriend Christina King of Perry; very close friends Frank Lohmer and Bill Peete; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

PHILIP L. COMPTON

PHILIP L. COMPTON ~ Varysburg 

Age 72, of Varysburg, NY died Wednesday March 7, 2018 at his home while under the care of Hospice and his loving family. He was born March 16, 1945 in Batavia, NY a son of the late Cecil and Alice (Ross) Compton also preceded in death recently by his brother, Richard Compton and daughter, Jean "Pat" Russell. 

Philip was a machinist by trade and worked  at Moog, Inc. in East Aurora along with being a member of the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church in Warsaw.  He was an outdoorsman through and through, an avid hunter he enjoyed horses and riding them. Phil's center was he family, his love of his wife, sons and grandchildren. 

Surviving is his beloved wife of 52 years, Grace (Holley) Compton of Varysburg; his loving sons, William (Sherry) Compton of Varysburg and Dave (Heidi) Compton of Attica; grandchildren, Earl, Samantha (Mike Love), Clayton, Cody, Lance, Jada, Mason, Tara & Philip; great-grandchildren, Jemma, Jaxon, Trenton and Andrea; brother, James (Sandra) Compton of E. Bethany; sister, Carol (Wayne) Speed of Oakfield; his "best bud" & "hunting partner", Jerry Gee along with several nieces and nephews.

Ilah Jane Kilian

  Ilah Jane Kilian, 95, of Wisconsin, formerly of Cowlesville, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2018 in Menomonee Falls, WI. She was born on July 29, 1922 in Tonawanda to the late Reverend Robert A. Noble and Hattie (Redtmann) Noble. In addition to her parents, Ilah is predeceased by her husband; William E. Kilian and sister Edna Phelps.

Mrs. Kilian was a piano teacher, church organist, church secretary and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Ladies Missionary Society. She loved tatting, crocheting, sewing, quilt making and gardening.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. Robert Noble of Dallas, TX.; children Roger (Carol) Kilian of New Hope, MN., Ronald (Susan) Kilian of Portage, MI., Ross (Donna) Kilian of Polk, PA., Eileen (Charles) Russell of Cherry Hill, NJ., Rodney (Cyndi) Kilian of Menomonee Falls, WI., and Marilyn (Jon) Rust of Samora Correia, Portugal; 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
