Obituaries

Dustin M. Nemec, a practicing Doctor of Pharmacy, passed away on September 25, 2021 from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident.  Dustin was born on January 19, 1995 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY.  While living just 26 years, Dustin accomplished much and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends who loved him dearly.

Dustin graduated third in his class from Elba Central School in 2013.  While attending ECS, Dustin participated in football, swimming and tennis.  Dustin was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he obtained the rank of Life Scout.  While in BSA, he participated in Sporterifle and worked at Massawepei Scout Camp, in the Adirondacks, on the archery range.

Dustin attended the University at Buffalo, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.  He graduated Cum Laude, in May of 2020 with the degree of Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).  Dustin started his career as a pharmacist with Tops Friendly Markets.  Dustin loved his job and his "work family" and will be remembered for his strong work ethic and commitment to detail when dispensing medications needed to treat illness and improve quality of life.  Dustin was always considerate and kind and had a heart of gold.  His amazing smile and quick sense of humor will be especially missed.

In Dustin's spare time, he was a great enthusiast and collector of guns and loved target shooting.  Dustin was also an avid weight lifter and cyclist.

Dustin is survived by his father and mother, Edward and Karen Nemec of Elba, NY; his brother Dylan (Alexandra Foley) Nemec of Irondequoit, NY; grandparents Kenneth and Joanne Deane of Batavia, NY and many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.  He will be greatly missed by his faithful, spoiled German Shepherd dog, Dominic.

Dustin is predeceased by grandparents, Emery and Marie Nemec, and cousins, Christopher Ball and Stephanie Konfederath.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave. in Oakfield.  Dustin's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday at St. Padre Pio Parish, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield.  Dustin will be laid to rest in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba.

Mary Anne Metz, courageously fought a long illness and passed peacefully from this earth on September 27, 2021.

Mary Anne was born in Batavia, to the previously deceased John and Gladys (Chaya) Balbick. She is survived by her husband Ronald, son Matthew (Theresa), son Richard (Emily), daughter Stephanie (Chris Miller), grandchildren Eleanor, Garrett and Levi. Mary Anne is the sister of Robert (Jane) Balbick, Elizabeth (Derek) Genesky and Nancy (Ed Schichtel) Balbick.

Mary Anne graduated from Rosary Hill College and University of Buffalo. She held teaching and library positions at a number of schools, retiring from Attica High School as the Library Media Specialist. Mary Anne loved golf, biking, sporting events and most importantly spending time with her family. Her many hobbies included photography, knitting and sewing, cooking, gardening and reading.

  James Thomas Fryer, age 81, of Batavia died peacefully Thursday September 16, 2021 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on September 11, 1940 in Batavia to the late Irving and Florence Fryer. James is preceded in death by his siblings; Gloria Dilcher, Geraldine Kasmarek, Irving Fryer; daughter and son-in-law Jeannie (Randy) Godlove.

James served his country with the United States Air Force. He worked for many years at Trojan (Eaton Yale & Towne). James loved to golf and go bowling with friends and family. He also spent his spare time with family working on stock cars.

He is survived by Sandy Dellapenna, Robert (Elizabeth) Fryer; daughters Annette Mazur, Anna Marie “Mia” Mogavero and Tammy Stevens; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

  Alfred E. Higgins, 82, of Oakfield passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021 at the United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on March 18, 1939 in Medina to Eileen Casper and step-father Lester Casper. Alfred is also predeceased by his brothers; Leroy (Deborah) and Ronald Higgins.

Alfred was a Heavy Equipment Operator for Lester John’s Inc. for many years and also AD Call in Stafford. He loved to hunt, watch football and was a big NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; Beverly (Chamberlain) Higgins of Oakfield; a son Jeffrey Higgins of Oakfield; brother Charles (Diane) Higgins of Albion; along with many nieces and nephews.

Alfred Angelo Panepinto, 64, of Batavia, passed away on September 23, 2021 at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo surrounded by his family and friends.

Alfred was born December 12, 1956 in Batavia, a son of the late Alfred A. Panepinto, Sr. and Edna Miller.

Alfred loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his precious granddaughter, Avaya.  He was a longtime member of Godfrey's Pond and enjoyed music.

Surviving are his fiancée, Barbara Johnson of Batavia; children, Josie Rose Panepinto of Batavia, Nicole (fiancée Macy Paradise) Johnson of Elba and Austin Johnson of Batavia; grandchildren, Avaya C. Panepinto, Conlan Johnson and Shayley Johnson; his loving aunt, Dolores Gaeta of Detroit, MI and cousins.

Batavia - Patricia L.  Fee, age 93 of Batavia passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Gateway Home in Attica.

She was born on March 27, 1928 in Smithport, Pennsylvania a daughter of the late Clayton and Ruth Miller Scott.

A member of St. Joseph's Church in Batavia and a former member of the Batavia Lioness Club, she worked for many years as a lunch aide in the Batavia School District. 

Patricia is the wife of John H. “Jack” Fee who passed away on January 25, 2013 and mother of the late David C. Fee who passed away on January 24, 2017.   

Surviving are her children; Michael (Delores) of Greece, Gregory Fee  of Mesa, Arizona,  Kathy Smith  of Huntington Beach, California and Colleen (William) Wassink  of Batavia, New York, ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There are no prior visiting hours. Laura Ruth Warren, 93, of Bergen passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport.

 Mrs. Warren was born on February 5, 1928 in Batavia, to the late A. Sidney and Mildred (Cotton) Pratt.  She was married to her loving husband Augustus C. Warren who passed away in 2014.

 Laura worked for many years as Head Seamstress for C.L Carr Co. in Batavia, NY.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.  Laura and Gus were Caretakers at Godfreys Pond for many years.

 She is survived by her children, Gary (Dana) Warren of Batavia, Kathie (Richard) Holzschuh of Brockport, David (Kelly) Warren of Bergen, and Wendy (Benjamin) Ritzenthaler of Shortsville, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Annette Warren, her sister Barbara Magel of Auburn and several nieces and nephews.

 She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Warren, siblings: Leslie Pratt, Maryann Waasdorp and Helen Rosocoff.

 There will be no visitation. Family and close friends are invited to attend Laura’s funeral service on October 2, 11:00 am at H.E. Turner & Co.      Dean M. Sehm Jr., 62, formerly of LeRoy, NY passed away at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Arizona on Sept. 17,2021 after a battle with COVID.  He was predeceased by his parents, Dean and Maybelle Sehm.

    

 Dean was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.  He worked for Ryder Trucking as a Senior Manager in charge of P M Optimization.  Dean enjoyed shooting, hunting, fishing, classic cars and driving his corvette.  He was very active with the Christ Presbyterian Church and served as head usher.

     Dean is survived by his wife, Sheri; two sons, Dean III (Kimberly) Sehm of AZ and Robert (Yessica) Sehm of AZ; step-daughter, Kadi Heekin; 7 grandchildren, Meredith, Dean IV, Ava, Alexander, Jeremy, Julian and Samuel; brother, Darryl Sehm of LeRoy; sister, Cheryl Lead (Larry Koester) of Perry; nieces, Amy and Crystal; nephew, Darryl; many great nieces, great nephews and always cherished, Karen, Matthew and Nikki Clark of NY.

Lorraine F. Siuta Hough, 75, of Waxhaw, NC, passed away on Thursday, (August 26, 2021). Until 2017 Lorraine had been a lifelong resident of Genesee County she spent the last 4 years in North Carolina with her daughter and family after the passing of her beloved husband, Douglas A. Hough.

Lorraine was born August 3, 1946 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Edward and Rose (Pirro) Siuta.

Lorraine retired from United Memorial Medical Center where she worked in the ambulatory surgery department. Before that, while her daughter was in school she worked part time at Alexander Central School as a cashier in the lunch room. She was well loved by the kids. Lorraine was a lifelong member of Batavia Assembly of God church and very involved in many programs at the church during her years there. She served her church in many ways; for many years she taught Sunday school, ran the Missionettes girls club, helped run the Sunday school dept, and sang in the church choir. When she moved to NC, she joined Zamar Church in Lancaster, SC and made many new friends these last 4 years. When the doors were open, she was there. She served the Lord her whole life and loved his church and his people. Always active she was part of a “neighborhood” ladies bible study as well.  

She is survived by her daughter, Lynne (Scott) Herr of Waxhaw, NC, her grandson Noah Herr of Waxhaw. Her brother, Raymond (Deborah) Siuta of Wyoming, NY. Her stepdaughter Sarah VanPragg of Albany, NY. Nephews Ray (Lisa) Siuta and Erik (Ashley) Siuta; 2 great-nieces Ella and Maddie Siuta and 2 step grandsons Devin and Reilly Van Pragg. Brothers-in-law Henry Hough, Paul (Dawn) Hough; sisters-in-law Donna Hough, Rosemary Nobles, Stella Howe, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Douglas A. Hough and her sister Doris A. Siuta.

Batavia - Daniel W. Shea, 60 of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, (September 21, 2021) at his home.

Mr. Shea was born September 29, 1960 in Batavia, a son of the late Wayne and Doris (Schneider) Shea.

Daniel attend Batavia High School where he played football. Following high school, he served honorably with the United States Navy during which time he traveled to several countries. He played guitar in a band and was in the Drum &  Bugle Corps in years past. Mr. Shea enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins and was a talented artist. He also enjoyed hunting, cooking, and cheering on the Red Sox and Buffalo Bills. He was very fond of his work at the Batavia VA Medical Center and the time he spent working with Jerry Arena.

Daniel is the husband of Beth (Kwiatkowski) Shea of Batavia. The two were married on June 27, 1987.

Surviving along with his wife are his sons, Daniel Haynes of Caledonia, Brandon (Ashley) Shea of Illinois, and Scott (Kaila Smith) Shea of Batavia; a grandson, Anthony Shea of Illinois; Brothers, Thomas (Debbie) Shea, and Timothy (Kimberly) Shea both of Batavia; a sister, Kathleen Shea of Batavia; nephews, Ryan, Dylan (fiance Alyssa Wolford), and Kyle (Catie Boerschlein) Shea all of Batavia; nieces, Addison Shea of Batavia, and Faith (Eric) Ware of Maryland. Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins also survive.

  Mark Scott Dickinson Parise passed away on September 21, 2021 at the age of 58 at Unity Hospital.  He is survived by his wife of 36 years Helen Parise, who together owned Parise’s Auto & Towing in Batavia, NY for 35 years after taking over from Helen’s parents.  He is also survived by his son Joseph, owner of Lickity Splits Ice Cream in Batavia and daughter Elaina, third generation operator of Parise’s Towing.  He also leaves behind mother in law, Joan Parise and the late Ralph Parise of Batavia, in-laws of Jeff & Mary Joan (Parise) Martin, John Parise, Paul Parise, and Doug & Kathleen (Parise) Boje.

Mark was originally from Alexander and was apart of the Alexander class of 1981.  Immediately after graduation he started at Parise’s Towing and was responsible for servicing the AAA towing of Genesee County.  In October of 1997, Mark signed the contract with the New York State Thruway, where he spent 17 years helping clear the highway of wrecks and disabled vehicles for a 32 mile stretch from Leroy to Pembroke. 

Mark was a very generous and giving person and was best known for his volunteer work at the St. Joes Lawn Fete.  When he wasn’t volunteering or at his repair shop, he enjoyed helping his son, Joe at his ice cream shop.  He loved to serve the customers their ice cream.  Mark also cherished restoring and building his tow trucks with his daughter Elaina.  Together they created world-renowned tow trucks that landed them the cover of Tow Times Magazine. He was very proud of his standout purple and teal tow truck fleet that he and his daughter painted.   Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling with his family and friends. 

A Funeral Service will be held in memory of Mark on October 2, 2021 at Resurrection Parish, 303 E Main St, Batavia, NY 14020 at 11:00AM and a reception to follow at 1:00pm at the Beachhead Veterans Club 3188 Broadway Rd. Alexander, NY 14005.

  Patricia M. Scheuerlein, 82, of Byron passed away on September 20, 2021 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born on March 12, 1939 in Batavia to the late Peter and Eugenia (Luche) Falcone. She is also preceded in death by brothers; Michael, Anthony, James, Frank Peter and Dominic Falcone; sisters Mary Falcone and Jean Warren; Grandson Kyle Scheuerlein and Daughter in law Lorraine Scheuerlein.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years; Thomas Scheuerlein; sons Timothy (Julie), Daniel (Debra), James (Mary), Thomas (Angela),  David (Jenifer); sisters Rose (Robert) Moore, Ann Freeman and Sue Means; 12 Grandchildren, 4 great- grandchildren.

Pat was an active member in the Stafford Fire Departments Lady Auxiliaries and Exempts for over 45 years. She was a cook at the Red Osier, Golden Poppy and Notre Dame High School.   Pat was a Devoted Catholic and parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy and St Brigid’s Parish in LeRoy.

Victor M. Jensen “Vic”, of Attica, passed away on his 94^th birthday, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at LeRoy Village Green. He was born January 7, 1927 in Batavia, to the late Marius (Camilla Petersen) Jensen. He was very proud to be the youngest of 12 and is preceded in death by his wife Neva J. (Sergel) Jensen, all of his siblings, brothers Charles, Walter, Harry, Alfred and Frank Jensen, sisters, Edith Carpenter, Ethel Schernau, Mabel Jensen, Ruth Jensen, Christine Brown and Virginia Stephan.   

Vic was married to Neva for 49 years after they eloped on Valentine's Day in 1954.  He owned and operated Jensen's Liquor Store for over 30 years.  He lived during the depression, was a polio survivor at age 18, and lost the use of his right hand, however was often heard saying,”I've had a wonderful life and a wonderful wife."  He was extremely proud of his daughters for their excellence as athletes and as students and that he was able to put them through college.  He was an avid supporter of his daughters and grandchildren in life and sports.  

Vic is survived by his daughters, Vicki L. Jensen, Joanne M. (Robert) Maxwell, Lynn M. (Barry) Northup, 5 grandchildren, Rob (Erika) Maxwell, Ryan (Lorraine) Maxwell, Ashley, Brandon, Jenna Northup, 5 great-grandchildren, Robbie, Phillip, Grace, Logan and Jaclynn, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Manor House and LeRoy Village Green, along with friend’s neighbors and family who all took such loving care of Vic.

  Albert A. King, 92, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 21, 2021 at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia.  He was born in Indian Lake, NY on April 17, 1929 to the late Earl and Celia (Parker) King.  In addition to his parents, Albert is predeceased by his wife; Janice A. King; son Paul King; daughter Christine Groleau; brothers Howard and Bernard “Jack” King; sisters Leona Woodman, Marlene Locke, and Carol Meade.

Albert was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War.  During his teen years, he was a very talented basketball and baseball player; was scouted by and tried out for the Brooklyn Dodgers.  He enjoyed playing golf throughout his life with friends and family.

Albert was a 1986 retiree of the Eastman Kodak Company, being employed in the Telecommunications division for 26 years.  He worked in several other trades in his lifetime; lumberjack/logging, mining, carpentry, tractor trailer driving, heavy machine operator, and an electrical lineman.  He was also a very skilled woodworker and craftsman.

He is survived by his sons: Alan King of Vancouver, BC, Canada, and Richard (Barbra) King of Elba, NY; five grandchildren: Alexander King, Todd (Valdiza) Phipps, Julia McGonagle, Jason Temple, and James King; three great-grandchildren: Eric Phipps, Joseph and Thomas McGonagle; a sister, Linda McCane; and a brother-in-law, Edwin Meade; several nieces and nephews.

Elba - James A. Daggar, 67 of Elba passed away on Friday, (September 17, 2021) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mr. Daggar was born March 6, 1954 in Rochester, a son of the late Robert and Ruth (Ackerman) Daggar.

James was an Army Veteran and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed cooking, fixing things, riding his bike, and his dog. Family was important to him and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving is his son, Brian Daggar of Elba; grandchildren, Sophia and Tristen Daggar; sister, Marilyn (Steven) Wisden of Tennessee; his best friend, Tyler Bedard; and Brian's mother,  Michelle (fiance John Bedard) Daggar of Elba.

A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lung Association, 2564 Walden Ave #101, Buffalo, NY 14225.
