Carol J. Moore, 76 of Batavia, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Brookdale Senior Living in Williamsville. She was born July 9, 1946 in Batavia to the late Gilbert and Annabel (Collister) Hoskins. She is preceded in death by a brother Norman Hoskins.

Carol retired from Genesee County IT Department as a System Analyst. She enjoyed gardening, walking, exercising, and traveling. Carol was a board member of the Batavia Cemetery Association and member of St. James Episcopal Church in Batavia. She was a very giving woman, often volunteering her time and giving blood.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jon McManis of Batavia, children; Amanda (Trevor) Boquist of Saskatchewan, Canada, Tracy (Mark) Poff of CA, John “JD” (Deb) McManis of AK, Susan Kennelly of Batavia, Eric (Cindy) McManis of FL, William McManis of MI, James (Jen) McManis of Caledonia; siblings, Robert (Roxanne) Hoskins of Batavia, Charles (Katherine) Hoskins of GA, Marie Williams of Byron, 20 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Diane A. Dimick, 85 of Stafford, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at LeRoy Village Green. She was born December 13, 1936 in Woburn, MA to the late Robert and Jennie May (Rudolph) Barber. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard J. Dimick and two siblings.

Mrs. Dimick was a longtime member of Stafford Methodist Church and worked many church dinners with her husband and also a member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Lynn (Joe Cronin) Dimick of Scottsville, Michelle Ann (Matt) Haire of Derry, PA; Paul R. Dimick of Houston, TX.

Beverley Fee McCracken Widdowson had her faith become sight on September 15, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home. Mom lived most of her life in Bergen and was a 1955 graduate of Byron-Bergen Central School. She married Ronald McCracken on February 9, 1957. Together they raised 5 girls. Mom and Dad loved the Lord, serving Him, and turning strangers into friends. They also enjoyed entertaining, fixing breakfast at a park, having their grandkids spend the weekend, going to Muckdog games, and visiting the Outer Banks with family and friends. Mom was happiest when taking care of someone, supplying a meal, giving a ride, and sending a handmade card. Mom loved to sew clothes for her girls and enjoyed doing paper crafts, painting ceramics, making dolls, baking, gardening, reading, and studying the Bible. She was employed at P. W. Minor & Sons. After Dad passed away in 2011, Mom missed having a companion and someone to care for. She married M. Eugene Widdowson on April 2, 2013.

Mom is survived by her husband, Gene; sisters-in-law Ruth (late Gerald) McCracken of Batavia, Marilyn (late Roy) McCracken of Geneseo, and Linda (late William) Lubanski of York; daughters Patricia (late Lee) Davis, Cathleen (Ken) Worthington, Lori-Beth (Mark) Woodruff all of Batavia, Lisa (Daniel) Rieks of Tennessee; son-in-law Paul Gordon of Virginia; and Mom to many more children of the heart, including her loving and faithful niece Cindy (Ron) Speicher. She is also survived by granddaughters Danielle (Steven) Clark of Batavia, Stephanie Barber of Oregon, Elizabeth (Gabriel) Minniear of Brooklyn, Emilie Barber of LeRoy, Rebecca Woodruff of Batavia, and Michaella Barringer of Batavia; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Albert and Dortha (Conley) Fee; brothers Bernard (Deloris) Fee, Donald (Irene) Fee, and Robert (Florence) Fee; and sister Judith Fee. She is also predeceased by her loving first husband of 53 years, Ronald McCracken; her daughter Sheryl Gordon; her in-laws George and Kathryn (Dyke) McCracken, William and Valeria (McCracken) Phillips, and Joyce (Costich) Fee; a niece; and three nephews.

  Sharon M. O’Neill, 80, of Batavia passed away on September 15, 2022 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Batavia on December 25, 1941 to the late Harry and Doris (Foster) Pask. In addition to her parents, Sharon is predeceased by her sister; Sandra Draper.

Sharon was born, raised and lived all of her life in Batavia. She graduated from Batavia High School. Sharon worked as a Supervisor in the workshop at Genesee Co. ARC for over 35 years, retiring in 2012. She loved working with her clients and often helped with outings and in the group homes. Sharon had such a great love for her clients that she opened her home with welcoming arms and housed several clients for years as their caregiver.

In Sharon's spare time she enjoyed going camping, going for drives in the country and stopping at garage sales. She had lots of talents and enjoyed doing ceramics, and making all sorts of crafts over the years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting making items for family and friends. She very much enjoyed baking and cooking during the holidays. Whether it be her delicious spaghetti sauce or her famous meatball cookies, they were enjoyed by all. One thing she had was to have her bacon crispy. She also liked canning many foods during the summer and making her freezer jams.

She had a great interest in Genealogy. She spent many hours and years researching her Ancestors, finding much information over the years about her family. Sharon loved tending to her fish and her fish pond. She very much enjoyed sitting and watching her fish swim back and forth in the pond. She had a passion for flowers. She loved them all. She was always tending her flower gardens and adding more flowers each year, the more colorful the better. One of her greatest loves was her animals. Whether it be her dog, Shelby or her cats, Baby and Sissy she enjoyed spoiling and playing with them. She was a very compassionate, loving, caring person who was always lending a helping hand to anyone. Sharon enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. She is greatly loved and will be missed very much by all.

She is survived by her children; Patrick (Fiancé Laura Ireland) O’Neill of Batavia, Kimberly Rice of NC., and Denene (Timothy) Bourke of Albion; siblings Doreen Roth of Batavia and Jack Pask of Batavia; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Ann Gavenda, 88, of Elba, passed away on September 14, 2022, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing in Batavia.

Ann was born January 27, 1934, in Batavia, a daughter of the late Irving and Margaret (Carroll) Warboys. A devoted and influential member of the Elba community - where she lived with her husband, Donald, for their 69 years of marriage - Ann was the first woman to volunteer as a first responder with the Elba Volunteer Fire Department. She continued to give back to her community throughout her life, serving as Town Clerk for 16 years, as a Boy Scout Leader, and as a driving force in the planning and fundraising behind the relocation of the historic Griffin House.

Family and friends fondly recall Ann’s love of baseball and of her Muckdogs in particular, a lifelong passion sparked when she attended the very first professional game played by the Batavia Clippers in 1939.

Ann is survived by Donald; her children, Peggy (Randy Cole) Jayme, Donald Gavenda, Paul (Tammy) Gavenda, and Gary (Sue) Gavenda; grandchildren, Phillip Gavenda, Donna (Tony) Betancourt, Cody Gavenda, Meredith Jayme, Madeleine Jayme and Bailey Gavenda; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Rob Warboys; sisters, Gretchen (Charles) Duffy and Jane (Patrick) Augello; brother-in-law, Walt Gavenda and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her son, Thomas Gavenda and sisters, Sally Peyrebrune and Judith Spieler.

Kathleen R. Legg, 69, of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly at her home, Thursday, September, 15, 2022.

She was born in Batavia on July 20, 1953, a daughter of the late Dean and Evelyn A. (Buckman) Legg. Kathleen was a graduate of Batavia High School.

Kathleen is survived by her brother, Wayne Legg; her niece, Jamie Legg and her two children.

There are no calling hours. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu.

Joan Y. Wolfe, 93 of Batavia, originally from Varysburg, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Premier Genesee in Batavia. She was born June 6, 1929 in Buffalo to the late Gordon and Doris (Stone) Phillips. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley H. Wolfe and son-in-law James Walsh.

She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her beloved children, Linda (Richard) Simpson of Williamson, Larry (Kathy) Wolfe of AL, Lorrie Walsh of Batavia; brother Lamar (June) Phillips of NC, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

  Liz Dick passed away on Tuesday September 13, 2022 in Rochester, NY at the age of 45. She was born to Gregory Dick and Karen Balkwill-Dick on July 2, 1977. She is predeceased by her father Gregory Dick, her grandparents Genny and Larry Balkwill; her Grandmother Helen Johnson and many beloved pets.  

Liz went to Batavia High School; she then earned her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Brockport and later completed her Master’s degree. Liz was employed with National General Insurance as an Associate Manager of Claims. Liz has worked in the Insurance industry for over twenty years. Liz enjoyed Reading, Diamond Art, watching TV/movies with friends as well as the Arts. Liz loved to travel including cruises, going to Disney, as well as going on local wine tours. Liz’ ability to touch someone’s soul was endless, she was a friend to many and was happy to do anything if it was with those she loved. She was a generous and thoughtful person who loved finding and giving someone the perfect gift.  Liz loved animals from the deepest part of her heart, she was known for rescuing many kinds of four-legged friends. Liz has volunteered her time and resources to various animal organizations over the years. Liz brought people together with her love of trivia, both hosting and playing.  She has played Euchre with friends for over 20 years. Liz was a member of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls until she was 21.

Survivors include her mother Karen Balkwill-Dick; her niece Felicity Dick; her best friend Stephanie Norton, her godchildren Trey Nielsen and Abby Nielsen; her best friend Rachel Coughlin; her best friend Billie Lape; and many, many other friends and relatives.  Also left behind are her faithful four-legged kids Cooper, Penny, Chewy, and Comet.

Medina - Sterling E.  Lewis, 74, of Medina passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center.

He was born on January 6th, 1948 in North Hornell, a son of the late Edward Lewis and Wilma Kernan Lewis. 

He proudly served his country with the United States Navy from 1968-1970. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool and darts. His family would like to thank the staff at the VA Medical Facility in Batavia for the excellent care their father received while he was under their care. 

Surviving are his daughters, Terri Lewis  of Basom and Stacey Fanton of Attica; five grandchildren, Sean (Kathleen) Vasko, Kaitlyn Johnson, Alyssa Lyons, Logan Lyons and Olivia Fanton; his sisters, Arlene Eldridge of Cameron Mills and Vicky (Jeffrey) Mullin of Batavia along with nieces and nephews. 

He is predeceased by his sisters, Beverly Combs and Marlene Lewis.

Renee F. Miller, 67, of Pavilion, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2022, surrounded by family.

  

   Renee grew up in LeRoy, NY.  She worked as a hairdresser and later as a teacher's aide while lovingly raising her family.  She will be remembered for her kind heart, her care for others, and the way she never arrived anywhere empty-handed or let anyone leave hungry.  She loved to make her grand-kids smile.

     Renee was predeceased by her parents, Bob and Edith Smith and her brother, Roger Smith.  She is survived by her husband, Michael Miller, sons Brad (Jasdeep Sekhon) Miller and Matthew Miller, daughter Erin (Chad) Weis, adored grandchildren Edie and Henry, sister Roxanne (Gerald) Paganin, and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

     A Remembrance Service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, September 24th at BW's Restaurant, Pavilion, NY.  Reception to follow.  Those attending are welcome to bring a memory to share.

Kohl, Clara (nee Krupa) of North Java, peacefully entered into rest in her home on September 14, 2022, at the age of 92. Daughter of the late Joseph and Agata (Sowa) Krupa; wife of the late Courtney “Cork” Kohl, mother of the late Albert C. Kohl and mother-in-law of the late Doug Royce. She is also predeceased by 2 brothers – Mathew Krupa (WW II) and Chester (Bernice) Krupa and 3 sisters – Florence (Leo) Kolek, Lottie (Charles) Capage, and Jean (Tom) Samer.

Survived by daughters Linda (Rick) George, Cheryl “Bags” Kohl (Tracy Shiltz), and Annette (Curtis) Clark, grandchildren Heidi (Tom) Behr, Kristofer George, and Stacey (Matt) Herod, Jessica Johnston and great grandson Elias, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Clara worked for the former Warner Juneby Case Company on Michigan Ave., Buffalo for 7 years on the factory line putting the pillows into jewelry boxes. Later, after her children were grown, she became a waitress at the Valley Inn, Warsaw. She thoroughly enjoyed the job and interacting with her customers. She loved being a member of the Ladies Sodality at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Darien Center, NY where her embroidered pillowcases with the crocheted edging were a requested item at church bazaars. She also enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader in Darien Center where she worked with the girls in her troop to earn their badges.

Upon moving to North Java, Clara became a 4H leader and took pleasure in teaching the girls in her group how to cook. As a volunteer for the North Java Fire Dept, she was known for her Crazy Crust Cherry Pie. She was proud to be a Eucharistic minister, a member of Our Lady Lourdes, a 4^th and 5^th grade Religious Education teacher at St. Nicholas Church. She became a member of the Tri-town senior citizens group and looked forward to monthly meetings and visiting with friends. She also was a member of the Six Star Post American Legion in Strykersville. Clara especially looked forward to planning and going on bus trips with her sisters and friends. They had a lot of fun adventures that she spoke about for years. She loved gardening with her husband, and they shared their harvest with many friends and family, including her dilled green tomatoes. She also enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills and the World Series games, doing jigsaw, Wonderword and Daily Jumble puzzles.

  Marion E. Baker, 80, of Pike passed away peacefully at her home on September 13, 2022. She was born in Warsaw on December 10, 1941 to the late Ellsworth and Evelyn (McCall) Flint. In addition to her parents, Marion is predeceased by her sister; Marilyn (Gerald) Fuller and grandson; Eric Flint.

She is survived by her spouse; Paul V. Wagner of Pike; sons Douglas (Linda) Flint of Pike and Jeff (Teresa) Flint of Pike; grandchildren Racheal Clark, Stacy Flint, Kelly Flint, Robert Flint, Marquis Flint, Steven Flint, Daniel Flint and Jessica Flint; great-grandchildren Samuel, Colton, Liam, Emerson, Kobe, Aviana, Carter, Kyra and Addison, along with several nieces and nephews.

Marion worked for the Champion Company in Perry for many years. She then became a dairy farmer until she stopped working. Marion loved to cook and bake and taking care of her flowers beds at home.

East Bethany ~ James V. Compton, age 80, finished the race strong, as he passed into heaven’s glory on September 13, 2022.

    

He was born February 17,1942 in Batavia NY to the late Cecil and Alice Compton of East Pembroke, NY.

     James received his education at Corfu High School and worked as a milkman in the days of home delivery and then as a machinist, before going to General Motors in Rochester, where he would retire.

     His love of horses led him to Batavia Downs, where he trained and became a driver in the Harness Racing industry. Having many horses through the years, he was nicknamed “The General” by the track announcer, with his most notable horse being track legend, Michael Scores.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sandra L. Compton; his children, Kevin Compton of E Bethany, Roger Compton and his wife, Cheryl of Bloomfield NJ, Cheryl Squire and her husband, Timothy of Wakefield NC, Jeanne Palmer and her husband, Albert of Warsaw NY.  James also has 6 grandchildren; Taylor Squire, Rachael Boynton, Aaron Pahuta, Allyssa Compton-Disla, Michael Compton and Amanda Palmer; 2 great-grandchildren, Addison Gregg and Ethan Boynton; sister-in-law, Grace Compton; brother-in-law, Wayne Speed; Patty Beverly and her family, John Nelson and his family, Geri Puma and her family, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     James is pre-deceased by his siblings, Phillip Compton, Richard Compton and Carol Speed, as well as his grandson, Zachary Squire.

Lee A. Hare, 61, of Corfu, passed away peacefully at his home, Monday, September 12, 2022.

Lee was born in the Town of Tonawanda on September 12, 1961, a son of the late Joseph F. Hare, Jr. and Elaine Hare.
He was a graduate of Pembroke High School and served in the United States Marines. Lee worked for Milherst Construction for many years.

Lee is survived by his brothers, Joseph Hare III and Michael (Beth) Hare; nephew, Zachery Hare and nieces, Kayleen and Dylan McEwan; his beloved wife, Maureen Augustyn Hare; stepsons, Timothy (Nikki) Augustyn and Eric (Erica) Augustyn and step grandchildren, Kasey, Kendall, Leah and Aleigha.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Friday, September 16, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any charity for animal rescue.
