Elroy Milton Wrathall, 95, of Bergen, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.

Elroy was born November 6, 1925 in Medina, a son of the late Frank and Mabel (Amos) Wrathall.

A veteran, Elroy served with the United States Army.  He was an inspector for Lapp Insulator in LeRoy.

Surviving are his daughters,  LuAnn (John) Wells of Bergen and Deborah (David) Roggow of New Mexico; four grandsons, nieces and a nephew.

Preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wrathall and his brothers, Everett, Franklin and Keith Wrathall.

Elroy's family would like to thank the staff at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia for the wonderful care they provided for their father.

Elroy's services will be held privately by his family.

Byron ~ Martha M. "Marty" Saxman, age 73, of Tripp Road, passed away Sunday evening (June 27, 2021) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

    

 She was born November 12, 1947 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Herbert and Anna Marie Neiner Pape.

     Marty will be remembered as a very caring and kind person, who was devoted to her family.  She enjoyed her coffee time and playing cards with family and friends.

     She will be sadly missed by her husband of 54 years, David D. Saxman; her children, David Saxman Jr., Dawn (Dan) Clark, Herbert (April) Saxman and Christopher (Sue) Saxman; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Beverly Layton and Betty Christ, along with many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by many brothers and sisters.

Kenneth M. Whitbeck, 77 of Akron, passed away suddenly on Friday (June 25, 2021) at Buffalo General Hospital.

He was born February 1, 1944 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late John “Louie” and Elizabeth Pfohl Whitbeck.

Survivors include a daughter, Dawn L. Whitbeck of Akron. Son, Tom Whitbeck of Akron. Grandchildren, Christopher M. Borchert, Matthew H. Borchert, Bryan A. Whitbeck and Tyler J. Whitbeck. Brother, James S. (Sally) Whitbeck of East Rochester. Nephews, Adam J. Whitbeck (Holly)(3 Great Nephews), Andrew J. Whitbeck (Sarah), Amanda M. Morabito (Michael)(3 Great Nieces)

Ken was predeceased by his wife, Dale H. Whitbeck (Hutchinson); son, Steven A. Whitbeck and brother Everett G. Whitbeck.

Mr. Whitbeck was retired from General Motors after working at the Tonawanda Engine Plant for 33 years. He was a proud Veteran, having served his country with the U.S. Army from 1965-1967.

In retirement, Ken was able to give more time to the hobbies he loved to do with his family.  Some of the hobbies included wood working, where he would cut or carve out many items for mom to paint and share with his children and grandchildren for birthdays and holiday gifts.  He enjoyed taking care of his flowers and lawns, for all to enjoy.  Fishing was a hobby he shared with many friends and family members, on Lake Ontario and Lake Allice.  In the evenings he enjoyed watching the Yankees play baseball.  Weekends were spent relaxing at Lake Allice with family and friends, and enjoyed being “Captain Ken” for the pontoon boat rides. For many years he travelled to Florida with his late wife, enjoying the sites and warm weather. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Ken will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Doris Emily Vickery, 100 years of age, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021. at The Grand of Batavia care facility.  Doris was born May 26, 1921, in Cedar City, Utah, the daughter of Isaac Conrad Haight and Emily Corry Haight, and the granddaughter of many Utah pioneers.

She went to work for Bell Telephone after graduating from high school and continued in this profession until her retirement from Verizon in 1978. She was “Miss Voice and Courtesy” for AT&T in 1966.

Doris met her husband, Robert K. Vickery, during World War II in 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Robert was stationed with the Army Air Corps. They married after a whirlwind courtship and just before Robert was sent overseas. After the war, they moved to Attica, New York, where they raised their family. Doris was a member of the Attica Presbyterian Church.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Maureen Dwyer, her brother, Claude Dix, a baby daughter, her husband, Robert, her son Richard, her grandson Mark Buckenmeyer, and her daughter-in-law, Paula Vickery.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (David) Eaton of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Deborah (Michael) Buckenmeyer of Attica, New York; her sons Robert (Trudi) Vickery of Clifton Park, New York, and Edward Vickery of Attica, New York; daughter-in-law Sandy Vickery of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of the Marley Funeral Home in Attica, New York.  There are no calling hours.  A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica, New York.

Linda S. Campbell, 71 of Oakfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday (June 24, 2021) at her residence under the loving care of her family and Hospice.

She was born March 1, 1950, a daughter of Maurice and Marion Heinz.

Linda was a very giving and loving individual with a heart of gold. She enjoyed flowers and taking care of her garden, travelling to the beach and ocean. She loved antiquing and solving crossword puzzles. She was formerly employed by Scofield Healthcare in Amherst. She will be missed dearly by those who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Campbell of Oakfield, Son, Jacob Shia of Oakfield. Sisters, Beverly, Lisa, Laurie, Sondra and Judy. Brothers in-law, David Campbell and Gerald (Kathy) Campbell. Sister in-law, Sue Pogel and many other relatives.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in Akron, NY.

Oakfield – Sherwin Amos Radka, loving husband and caring father died Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the LeRoy Village Green Residential Healthcare Facility. He was 95.

Born in Oakfield on September 5, 1925, Sherwin was the son of the late Helen Brumsted Radka Davis and Amos F. Radka. He was a 1943 graduate of Oakfield High School. In 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Propus. Sherwin was honorably discharged in 1946 and then attended the University of Buffalo. He graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Sherwin, also known as Josh to those close to him, married his wife of 74 years, the late Valera Dart on January 16, 1947. The couple lived in Batavia and Buffalo before moving to Oakfield where they raised two children.

After working as an accountant for several companies, he was appointed as the Postmaster of Oakfield in 1959. After 16 years, he was promoted to the postmaster of East Aurora, where he served until his retirement in 1985.

Sherwin devoted many hours to public service and community work. He served as secretary of the Oakfield Fire Department for many years before becoming an exempt member. He coached two Oakfield Little League teams, and was a member of the former Oakfield Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school and served as both a Trustee and Elder. Josh was past president of the Oakfield-Alabama Lions Club, and chairman of the Genesee United Way Appeal. He joined Rotary International during his time in East Aurora, and in his later years became a member of the Oakfield Historical Society.

Sherwin served more than 15 years as a member of the Oakfield-Alabama Board of Education, including several terms as president. He proudly presented graduation diplomas to his daughter and son.

Josh enjoyed traveling with Val, golf, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends. Josh continued to be active into his 90s, making new friends at Saint Anne’s Community at the Greens in LeRoy, and learning new things.

Sherwin is survived by his daughter, Gayle Miraglia (Peter) of Guilderland, New York and his son, Jeffrey Radka (Mary) of Brockport. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Janelle Baker (Sean), Meghann Hongach (William), Leslie Radka and Damian Miraglia, four great-grandsons, four nieces and a nephew.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Radka of Austin, Texas.

His family would like to thank the staffs of both Saint Anne’s Community at the Greens and the LeRoy Village Green for their compassion and care.

The family will be holding a private burial. A memorial service for both he and Val will be held in September where all are welcome to attend. Graham Arthur Spiers of Batavia, NY passed away on June 19, 2021.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Grace Orcutt Spiers, and his twin sister, Sue Spiers McLean.  

He is survived by his four children, Margaret E. (Peggy) Spiers, Robert B. (Debra Hyde) Spiers, Steven A. (Ann Trankina) Spiers and Sarah J. (Tony) Reuter; and four grandchildren, Samantha J. (Sammy Jo) Spiers (Keith) Stevenson, Daniel R. (Danno) Spiers, Christopher R. Spiers, and Meghan M. Reuter and brother, Tom (Charlotte) Spiers and nieces and nephews.

Graham was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 16, 1931 to Robert H. and Margaret Walker Spiers.  His family moved to FoxHill Farm on Lewiston Road in 1945.  He graduated from Batavia High School in 1949.

Graham loved his church home at Batavia First United Methodist where he was a member for 75 years.  He and Grace were members of the McNabb Sunday School class.  Besides serving in many capacities at the church, Graham volunteered with Troop 6 of the Boy Scouts for many years.
   
Graham served in the US Army Reserve.   He served for 35 years as a reservist with the 98th Division.  He retired in 1993 after working as a civilian as the administrator for the Batavia reserve center.

The family will celebrate Graham’s life with a graveside service. Attica ~ Timothy M. Zielinski, age 52, of Laurel Drive, passed away Wednesday morning (June 23, 2021) at Rochester General Hospital, in the loving presence of his family.

    

 He was born March 9, 1969 in Rochester, a son of Rhonda Behr Zielinski and the late Anthony W. Zielinski.

     Tim will be remembered for many things, but especially for his love of his family.  He was a very devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather, who also had a special loving bond with his in-laws. His 20+ year career as a registered nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital exemplified his compassion and devotion to others.

     He was passionate about all kinds of music, loved everything about nature, was a science and movie buff, enjoyed writing and anything to do with water.

     Tim will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Angelique Spring; his children, Garrett Wesley (Mandy) Spring and Victoria Faye Podwika; his dearly loved grandson, “Little” Wesley Ivan Spring II, his mother, Rhonda Zielinski and his sisters, Amanda Zielinski (Jamison) and Mary Zielinski (Michael).  Tim was also lovingly supported by his many in-laws and dear friends.

     Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Tim’s Life on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Northgate Free Methodist Church, 8160 Bank St. Rd., Batavia, N.Y.

Bergen - Cynthia S. Reynolds, 74 of Bergen, passed away on Wednesday, (June 23, 2021) at Unity Hospital in Rochester.

Mrs. Reynolds was born December 10, 1946 a daughter of the late Stanley Ratajczak Jr. and Ann (Zamaitis) Ratajczak.

Cynthia was a parishioner of St. Brigid's Church in Bergen and greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a hard worker who loved to antique and collect various things. Mrs. Reynolds was proud of her flower beds and liked to cook, work puzzles, and host family gatherings.   

Surviving are her husband, Lawrence "Larry" D. Reynolds of Bergen; children,  Michael Olander of Gates, Peter (Deana) Olander of Bergen, Sue (Mark) Barber of Bergen, and Robert (Carrie) Reynolds of Bergen; grandchildren, Tyler Lavare of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Zachary and Megan Olander of Gates, Jillaina Olander of Brockport, Jessica and Michael Olander of Churchville, Matthew and Aleah Olander of Bergen, Jaelynn Reynolds and Angela Young of Bergen; great-grandchildren, Arriel Shanley, and Ella Olander; a sister, Patricia (Michael) Kohlhagen of South Salem.

She is preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Anne Olander who passed away on May 24, 2005.

LeRoy / Campbell, NY ~ Jane E. Terrill, age 93, of West Avenue, passed away early Tuesday morning (June 22, 2021) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

     She was born June 6, 1928 on the family farm in Stafford, NY, a daughter of the late Blaine and Viola Hofmann Wight.

     While growing up in Stafford, Jane attended and graduated from the South Byron High School and went on to attend Houghton College, graduating with a teaching degree.  She went on to a long career in teaching high school math and science before retirement.  Jane ultimately moved from Campbell, NY in 2017 to The Greens in LeRoy.

     Jane is survived by her sisters, Nancy (Ronald) Johns of KY and June (Richard) Mullen of Byron; step-children, Robin (Gary) Woodbury and Doc (Jackie) Terrill; step-grandchildren, Nathan (Michele) Terrill and Matthew Terrill, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

     She was predeceased by her husband, Warren Terrill and her sisters, Evelyn (Cal) Waterman, Mary (Charles) Torrey and Grace (Norman) Phelps.

     A special thank you to her nurse, Beth and caregivers, Katie and Shannon, as well as the staff at Highland Hospital's 5th Floor Blue-West.

     Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Wyoming/Ocklawaha, FL - Sandra  J. Van Buren, 78  of Ocklawaha, Florida and formerly of Wyoming, passed away on Sunday, (June 20, 2021) at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo.

Mrs. Van Buren was born May 21, 1943 in Arcade, a daughter of the late Alvie and Helen Schriber Rogers.

Sandra was a member of the Morning Star Cowboy Church in Florida. Sandra and her husband, Doc were foster parents to many children over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In her younger years, she enjoyed horseback riding.

Surviving is her husband, Delbert "Doc" L. Van Buren of Ocklawaha, Florida; children, Kimberly (Dennis) Osborne of Buffalo, Scott (Karen) Van Buren of Wyoming, and Wyatt (Eilah) Van Buren of East Bethany; step-children, Amy (Allen) Wright of Bethany, and Kelly (Kerri) Page of Linden. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Sandra is preceded in death by several siblings.

  Joshua T. Hurlburt, age 39, of Perry, NY passed away on Tuesday June 22, 2021. He was born in Warsaw, NY on December 6, 1981, a son to Dale W. “Sookie” and Evelyn M. “Evie” (Stradley) Hurlburt. He is preceded in death by his brother; Jason A. Hurlburt who passed away on December 22, 2000.

Josh was a 2000 graduate of Perry Central School. He was a Sergeant with the US Army and worked as a group leader at American Rock Salt in Groveland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding snowmobiles and four wheelers, playing softball and just being outdoors. He especially loved spending time with his son Dominic.

He is survived by Son Dominic Jason Hurlburt of Perry; parents Sookie and Evie Hurlburt of Perry; maternal grandmother Maryln Eastman of Warsaw; a special friend Karly, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends

UPDATED: Beatrice Ostrander of Allen, Texas passed away on May 8, 2020 at the age of 88. She was born on September 16, 1931 to Zachariah “Boo” and Mary (Marrow) Cox in Carlton, New York.  Beatrice is a former resident of Alabama, New York.  Beatrice married Donald Ostrander on July 29, 1950 at the Kent Baptist Church in Kent, New York.  She was "gramma Bea" to the children she would babysit, Bea to her coworkers at J C Penney in Medina and at the corner store, Alabama Holley Farm, Aunt Beattie to nieces and nephews.  Bea enjoyed working in her roses, sewing, cooking and being independent in spite of a loss in her vision. She has left us with so many memories.
 
Beatrice is survived by her children, Sandra (Russ) Weimer or Allen, Texas, David (Donna) Ostrander of Fort Myers, Florida, and Douglas Ostrander of Bergen, New York; grandchildren, Christopher Weimer, Tricia (Kevin) Shafer, Kimberley Chapman, Nicole Ostrander, Amber Ostrander, and Ryan Ostrander; 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Mary (Wilbert) Fraiser of Barre Center, New York; and numerous other loving family and friends.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ostrander (2001); 4 brothers, Robert, Sydney, John, and Clayton (Jean) Cox; and sisters, Anna Mae (Harold) Germeo, Sara “Betty” Churchill, and Florence “Tootie” Roth, nieces, Kathy Cox and Virginia Marie Cox, a nephew, John Cox.
 
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Alabama-Basom United Methodist Church, 1392 Church Street, Alabama, New York 14013. An inurnment will be held The Alabama Cemetery.

  Patrick D. Suozzi, 85, of Medina, passed away on Monday June 21, 2021 at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia. He was born in Batavia on July 7, 1935 to the late Pasquale and Teresa (Longobardi) Suozzi. In addition to his parents, Patrick is predeceased by his wife; Theresa (Riso) Suozzi; brothers Joseph and Paul Suozzi;

Patrick graduated from Batavia High School and the University of Buffalo. He was a United States Naval veteran of the Korean War. Patrick was a longtime extremely successful youth football coach in West Seneca and Liverpool New York and was an avid sports fan of the Bills, Sabres and Yankees. He loved attending Batavia Muckdogs baseball games with his son and greatly enjoyed weekly gatherings with his High School friends. Patrick was a successful businessman and a decorated USPS Letter carrier, and will be forever remembered as a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his son; Terry (Alberta) Suozzi of Medina; brothers Donald Suozzi of FL., Ralph (Maria) Suozzi of FL., Dennis (Marg) Suozzi of IN., Jeffery (Joanne) Suozzi of PA; sister Pamela (Thomas) Gorman) of Henrietta, along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday June 29, 2021 at Ascension Parish 19 Sumner St. in Batavia. He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum in Batavia.
