LESTER C. "ANDY" ANDERSON, JR.

Age 72, of Batavia, died Sunday morning October 30, 2016 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born July 18, 1944 in Altoona, PA a son of the late Lester C. and Betty (Robison) Anderson, Sr. 

Andy was a proud United States Army Veteran having served with the 82nd Airborne Division. A longtime employee of Wright Beverage Distributors until his retirement. He had a love for the outdoors, hunting and hiking, he enjoyed camping in the summer, cruising in the winter and was a tireless volunteer at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia. He always had at his side his faithful 4 legged companion, Wiley and will be remembered as the wonderful father he was and a great "PA" to his grandchildren. 

Surviving is his beloved wife, Stacey (Schneider) Anderson of Batavia; sons, Dane (Melanie) Anderson of Corfu, Evan Anderson of Batavia, Erik (Nicole) Anderson of Darien and Chad (Dominique) Nell of CA; siblings, Jack Anderson of Rochester, Melody (John) Tanza of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Hannah, Logan, Cameron, Liliana and Genevieve; dear friends, Jim (Judy) Russell of Batavia along with several nieces and nephews. 

The Anderson family will be present from 4-8PM on Wednesday November 2 at the MICHAEL S. EDWARD R. (PARADOWSKI) FISHER

Age 96, of Oakfield, died peacefully Thursday October 27, 2016 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born October 12, 1920 in Buffalo, NY a son of the late Ignatius and Lucy (Orlowska) Paradowski also preceded in death by a sister, Alice Kruzicki. 

Mr. Fisher was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII having been stationed in England, he was very proud of his service time and would often share stories of the war with friends and family. He was an entrepreneur at heart, owning and operating many business throughout his lifetime. Ed enjoyed horses, taking care of his yard and mowing his lawn, an avid reader and frequent follower of Fox News, Bill O'Reilly. 

Surviving is his former wife, Ruth Bernhardt of Batavia, sons, Paul (Linda) Paradowski of Oakfield, Bruce (Cheryl) Fisher of NC, step-son, Norm (Pat) Fisher of AZ; sister, Emily Zagon of Cheektowaga; grandchildren, Paul (Julie) Paradowski, Mark (Lisa) Paradowski, Tracy (Scott) Denny, Craig (Catherine) Simon, Jennifer Daniel and Bruce (Carla) Fisher, 13 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. 

The Paradowski family will be present from 8:30 - 9:30AM Thursday November 3 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 WEST MAIN STREET ROAD BATAVIA, NEW YORK 14020 where prayers will be recited 9:30AM followed by a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Padre Pio Parish (Oakfield Site). Batavia - Katherine I. Hawkins, 97, formerly of Batavia, a retiree from P.W. Minor Shoe Factory in Batavia, died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy.

Mrs. Hawkins was born July 11, 1919 in Oakfield, a daughter of the late Henry and Emma Garrod.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church for over 75 years.

Her husband, Milton E. Hawkins, died on January 4, 2011.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Betty (John) O'Brien of Batavia and Linda (Timothy) Munger of Helena, AL; 6 grandchildren, Scott, Kim, and Kevin Gabriel, Krystin Seales, Brittany Golden and Gregory (Karen) O'Brien; 5 great-grandchildren, Steve, Alexander and Zachery O'Brien and Morgan and Blair Seales; several nieces and nephews. 

She was the mother of the late David Hawkins and sister of 4 late brothers and 1 late sister.  

Friends may call on Tuesday November 15, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 E. Main St., Batavia.  Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at St. James Episcopal Church, 405 E. Main St. Batavia.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited, Inc.  One Water Fowl Way, Memphis, TN 38120.  Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba. 

Mrs. Anita L. (Totten) Porter, formerly of Oakfield and Lyndonville, passed away on October 28, 2016.

Mrs. Porter was born in Batavia, January 12, 1950, a daughter of the late Harvey M. and Phyllis E. (Graves) Totten. A graduate of  Oakfield-Alabama High School and Genesee Community College, she was married to the late Montraville J. “Montie” Porter III. She was employed by the New York State Dept. of Corrections, as a Corrections Officer at the Albion Correctional Facility and retired on September 30, 2013. 

She enjoyed reading, her dogs, and loved her four grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Brett (Tracy) Porter; her daughter, Laura (Mike) Schreiner; four grandsons, Colin, Brenden, John and Brett; her brother, Randy (Melinda) Totten of Brockport; her sister, Kim (Paul) Meland of Medina; several nieces and nephews. 

Friends may call on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016 (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. following visitation. Pastor Daniel Thurber will officiate and interment will be in Alabama Cemetery.

Frances D. “Babe” (Straub) Hackett, 81, passed away on Friday October 28, 2016 at the LeRoy Village Green. She was born in Buffalo on May 29, 1935 to the late Arthur and Marie (Villa) Straub. In addition to her parents, Frances is predeceased by her sister and brother in law Viola (Charlie) Ortolano.  

Frances received an Associate’s Degree from Genesee Community College while in her 40’s. She retired as a Merchant Marine where she worked on the Great Lakes which she was so very proud of.  She held many jobs in her life including selling real estate and being a supervisor at Sylvania in Batavia. She owned a restaurant in Attica, a gift shop and also owned and operated a plastics manufacturing company called Hack-Co in Batavia. She was an avid bowler, gambler, loved casinos and would often play cards at her mother’s house for days at a time.

She is survived by her children; Marie McCarthy of Batavia, Frances (Brian Schoenherr) Charles of Rochester, Keith (Diane) Lapp of LeRoy and Rosemary Cook of PA; brothers Arthur (Fran) Straub Jr. of Attica, Andy (Lucy) Straub of Warsaw; 8 grandchildren; Jamie, Michael, Heather, Lindsey, Keegan, Collyn, Elizabeth and Killian and 2 great grandchildren Alexander and Michael Jr.

Robert H. “Fuzzy” Mattia Jr., 77 of Wethersfield, passed away on Wednesday October 26, 2016 at Wyoming County Community Skilled Nursing Facility. Fuzzy was born October 5, 1939 in Nunda, the son of the late Robert Sr. and MaryHelen (Moore) Mattia.

Fuzzy was a retired sanitary welder for Twinco, where he was instrumental in developing, operating and maintaining production lines in various food plants throughout the United States. He had a passion for hunting and reloading and was usually found outside mowing, gardening or someplace in the woods. Fuzzy was often sought upon for his craftsmanship of gun smithing, farm equipment repairs and welding talents. In his early years he built stock cars for several Holland Speedway race teams and was a member of the North Java Fire Department.  He was also a member of the Java Village First Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife Elaine Ruth (Bridges) Mattia whom he married November 16, 1957; his daughters Cyndy Mattia of Virginia, Debby (Daniel) Lamkin of Bennington, and Hiedi (Timothy) Librock of Darien; eight grandchildren Chelsea Bakos, Kevin Mullen, Lauryn Lamkin, Tayla Mattia, Seth Librock, Ethan Librock, Cyara Mattia, Wyatt Librock; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is the father of the late Mark Mattia who passed away on August 20, 1987 and John Mattia who passed away on May 1, 2004; also the brother of the late Patricia Mattia Brocius.

LeRoy - Peter I. Rossi, 89, of LeRoy, passed away on Wednesday (October 26, 2016) at the New York State Veteran's Home in Batavia.

Peter was born December 21, 1926 in Batavia, the son of the late Frank A. and Caroline (Sala) Rossi.

A veteran, Peter served with the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War.  He is a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Northwoods Sportsmen Club and the VFW.  Peter enjoyed being a part of the McDonald's coffee club that would regularly get together.  He was a section foreman at Lehigh Valley Railroad in Batavia.  

Survivors include two sons, Frank A. (Barbara) Rossi of Kansas City, MO and Peter M. (Beverly) Rossi of Arizona; a grandson, Frank Rossi of Webster; a granddaughter, Alexandria Rossi of Arizona; a great-granddaughter, Ashlee Rossi of Gates and several nieces and nephews.

Peter is the husband of the late Clara S. Rossi and brother of the late Julia Spink and Laura Ballard.

Calling hours are Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.  Peter’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Site, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.  He will be laid to rest with full Military Honors in St. Francis Cemetery, LeRoy.  Memorials may be made to New York State Veteran's Home, Attention: Activities Fund, 220 Richmond Avenue, Batavia, NY 14020.

Bergen - John F. “Jack” Robinson, 74, of Bergen, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Unity Hospital.

Mr. Robinson was born August 21, 1942 in Bergen, a son of the late Carl and Helen Sherman Robinson.

A longtime employee of the Village of Bergen's Department of Public Works, Jack was instrumental in developing, operating and maintaining Robinson's Driving Range and Golf Course. He loved mowing lawns, golfing, hunting and watching wrestling. He enjoyed trips to Batavia Downs, going to the Rose Garden to play Quick Draw with his son and the daily “outings” he took with his wife, Shirley.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Davis Robinson, whom he married March 29, 1962; his children,  John Robinson of Bergen,  David (Kelli) Robinson of Churchville, Paul Robinson of Bergen, Todd (Karen Crusoe) Robinson of Livonia and Teresa (Jay) Whalin of Bergen; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan, Sam, Heidi, Justin, Nick, Josh and Brett; four brothers: Robert (Barb) Robinson of Churchville,  Ralph (Barb) Robinson of Bergen,  Melvin (Cyndy) Robinson of Florida and James (Lori) Robinson of Batavia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is the father of the late Richard L. Robinson who passed away on April 29, 2004, grandfather of the late Christopher L. Miller who died on August 22, 2003 and brother of the late Carl Robinson.

Gladys E. Price, age 76, of Perry passed away on Saturday October 22, 2016 at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Gladys was born in Portage, New York on June 21, 1940 a daughter of the late George and Bearneadean (Lee) Niles.  Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband David Price who passed away on March 29, 2004, a sister Eleanor Organski and brother Ervin Niles.

Gladys was a graduate of Perry Central School class of 1959. She and her late husband were former owners of the Sea Serpent Inn in Perry. She was employed by the former Star Market and Champion Products in Perry and retired from JN White Designs in Perry.
She was a member of Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Perry. She enjoyed knitting and doing needle point.

She is survived by 2 brothers: Melvin (Marcia) Niles of Perry, Marvin (Ann) Niles of Warsaw, 3 sisters: Bernice (Raymond) Burdick of Canaseraga, Amy (Duke) Bowman of Wyoming and Pearl (Joseph) Eliasz of NJ, 3 sisters-in-law: Vicki (John) Naylor of Perry, Verna Lee Traber, Marie Niles of Silver Springs, along with many nieces and nephews.

Byron - Trevor J. Mathisen, 13, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Trevor was born November 15, 2002 in Batavia, the son of John M. and Amy Mills Mathisen of Byron.

Trevor loved to play hockey and was a member of the Buffalo Stars. He enjoyed 4 wheeling, riding dirt bikes and spent countless hours at Godfrey's Pond fishing. Trevor was involved with 4-H and recently began showing cattle. He loved being outdoors and loved all animals.  Trevor had a personality that was larger than life, a smile that could brighten any room and a laugh that was contagious.

Surviving along with is parents are his sister, Autumn Mathisen of Byron; grandparents, Elmer F. Mills, Jr. of Byron and Diane (Brad Thomas) Mathisen of Cheektowaga; his great-grandmother, Estelle Rodman of Conesus; his aunt, Tammy (Rick) Saglimbeni and their daughter Anna Saglimbeni of Tarpon Springs, Florida; his uncle, Richard Mills of Byron and his son, Kodey Mills of LeRoy.

Trevor’s celebration of life will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 30^th at 5939 Griswold Road, Byron.  All are encouraged to wear Trevor’s favorite color, lime green and arrival by 4 wheeler, dirt bike or tractor is strongly encouraged. There will be many activities throughout the day to honor Trevor’s memory including a bonfire.

KENNETH A. FRIESEMA

Age 67, of Batavia, died peacefully Friday September 30, 2016 at Unity Healthcare in Rochester. He was born May 25, 1949 in West Seneca, NY, a son of Jon and Jean (Schmidt) Friesema of West Seneca. 

Ken was a graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Music with a Bachelor's degree in vocal performance. Ken enjoyed working for M&T Bank at branches throughout the area, but his passion was singing. He was known for his corny jokes, but the world would stop to listen whenever he would sing. Ken was a member of the Mason's West Seneca Lodge #1111 and participated in all of their musical programs as long as his health allowed. 

Surviving is his beloved wife of 33 years, Laura (Fulcomer) Friesema of Batavia as well as his children, Christopher (Sara Tracy) Friesema, William Friesema and Julia Friesema all of Batavia; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Julian & Aurora Friesema, Kaylub Dunn and Peyton Mickey all of Batavia; sister, Joanne (James) Daly of Cheektowaga; niece, Tara; nephew, Michael along with aunts, uncles and cousins.  

The Friesema family will be present from 2-3PM on Saturday October 29 at the MICHAEL S.   Charles J. Silvernail, 59 of Alexander, passed away Sunday October 23, 2016 at Highland Hospital in Rochester surrounded by his family. He was born February 1, 1957 in Batavia, to the late Norman & Vera (Snyder) Silvernail. He is preceded in death by a sister Tammy Silvernail.  

Charles was an avid hunter, fisherman and longtime member of A-On-Do-Wa-Nuh Sportsman Club in Leicester. His grandchildren were everything to him.

He is survived by his loving wife Robin L. (Dioguardi); daughter Cheryl (Dan) Hollands of East Bethany; sisters Jane (John) Peters of Ormond Beach, FL; Betty Jones of Daytona Beach, FL; Terry (Ray) Saluste of Batavia; grandchildren Connor Daniel and Emma Rae Hollands, along with several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews.

LeRoy / Wyoming ~ Andre Carmel, age 79, of Transit Road, passed away Saturday morning (October 22, 2016) at Rochester General Hospital in the loving presence of his family.

    

He was born April 27, 1937 in St. Bruno, Quebec, a son of the late Armand and Delia Many Carmel.

     Andre was a loving man, who was dedicated to his family, not only locally, but also to his family in Canada.  He was known for his friendly demeanor and his devoted religious faith.  Those that had the pleasure to be called his friend, knew what a hard worker he was.  It seemed as though work was a hobby to him.  He enjoyed being a mason and a business owner.  He also loved to travel and meet new people.

     He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen Collins Carmel in 1997, along with 7 siblings.

     He will be sadly missed by his wife of 16 years, Esther Goodie Carmel; his children, Andre (Eileen) Carmel of LeRoy, Kathleen (Andrew) Hulme of Pavilion, Douglas Bauer of Elba, Laura Cunningham of Attica, Carol Robinson of Batavia and Jeffrey (Kim) Bauer of Batavia; 14 grandchildren; brother, Laurent (Suzanne) Carmel of Quebec, sister, Lucienne Carmel of Quebec, along with several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     Visitation, services and interment for Andre will be held in his hometown of St. Bruno, Quebec later in the week.  A local memorial service will be held at a future date to be announced.
