Joseph Beszczynski, Jr

Joseph "Joe" Beszczynski,Jr of Darien Center passed away after a long illness on November 29, 2019. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen (Rustowicz); his children,  Joe (Kate) Beszczynski III and Linda (David) Shoe; grandson, Joe(Janet) Beszczynski IV; and great grandchildren, James, Abigail, and Destiny; siblings, Adele (the late Dan) Tybor, Gene (Edwina) Beszczynski, Dan (the late Cecilia) Beszczynski; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Joseph and Anna (Krawczyk) Beszczynski, Sr. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy and his brothers, Ray and Cy Beszczynski. Joe trained and drove harness horses for over 30 years. He enjoyed racing stock cars and construction work. He retired from Harness horse racing and working at Skyline Campground.

Robert K. Aradine

BERGEN - Robert K. Aradine, 84, of Bergen, passed away Monday, (December 2, 2019), at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mr.  Aradine was born June 26, 1935, in Bergen, a son of the late Kenneth and Imogene (McIntyre) Aradine.

Bob was a lifetime farmer and truck driver, a 45 year member and past Master of the Hesperus Lodge Free and Accepted Masons in Bergen, and a member of the Bergen United Methodist Church.  He was active with the FFA and enjoyed huting, fishing, snowmobiling, and spending time with his family.

Robert is survived by his loving companion, Jackie Toscano of Bergen, sons, Richard A. (Sharon) Aradine and Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Aradine both of Bergen; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Bethany) Aradine of Bergen, Brandon (Megan) Aradine of Byron, Justin Aradine, and Jenna Aradine both of Bergen; great-grandchildren, Levi, Evelyn, Kate, and Abby Grace Aradine; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Aradine of Bergen; a brother, David (Marie) Aradine of Bergen, brother-in-law, Kenneth Bater of Cali. 

Mr. Aradine is preceded in death by a son, Barry Aradine; Brother, Roy Aradine; and sisters, Emily Bater, and Ann Bater.

There will be no visitation.  A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.  Burial will be in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen. Dolly (Phyllis) Piazza

LeRoy ~ Dolly (Phyllis) Piazza, 79, of West Main Road, passed away Saturday evening, November 30, 2019, at Strong Memorial Hospital in the loving presence of her family.

    

She was born on December 30, 1939 in Batavia a daughter of the late Nunzio “Duke” Maloni and Stella Macugowski. She was a graduate of LeRoy High School, Class of 1957.

     She retired in 2017 after 38 years as co-owner and Head Chef and Baker at LB Grand Restaurant. At age 11 she learned to make her signature spaghetti sauce and meatballs in her father’s restaurant when her mother fell ill. Her mother eventually recovered and over time, taught Dolly how to make various homemade pies, cakes, pastries and other desserts.

     She also worked many years as a waitress in the Club House at Batavia Downs. She then entered the bar and restaurant business with her husband and several different family members over the years.

     She will be remembered not only for the quality of her cooking, but also for her hard work, forgiving nature, generosity and love for her family and friends. She was an inspiration to all that knew her.

     She is survived by her husband of 60 plus years Ronald A. Piazza Sr., a brother, Samuel Maloni,  a sister in-law Cindy Maloni of LeRoy, children, Ronald (Cindy) Piazza, Pamela Morrow (Ronald Shoemaker) all of LeRoy, Joseph Piazza of Tavares,Florida, Michael Piazza and John (Joele) Piazza also of LeRoy. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Nicolena (Mike) Schmidt of Dale NY, Janelle Piazza (Matt Ellis) of LeRoy, Nicholas (Kari) Piazza of Ransomville, NY, Joseph Piazza Jr., Anthony Piazza and Vincent Piazza all of Tavares, Florida, Kimberly (Josh) Jacobs of Hawaii,  Melissa Piazza of Batavia, Nate Piazza of LeRoy, Kari Piazza (Steve Cappotelli), Benedicto Piazza, Carli Piazza, and Tony Piazza all of LeRoy, and 3 great-grandchildren,  Ariana Bodine and Abigail Bodine of LeRoy and Peyton Jacobs of Hawaii, a nephew, Robert Maloni of LeRoy and a niece Karen Maloni Ferguson of Massachusetts..

Dolly was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Joseph Maloni and nephews Joseph Maloni Jr., John Maloni and Nicholas Maloni.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday, December 4th from 2 – 8 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road, LeRoy.

     A Memorial Service and interment for Dolly will be held privately.

Jeanne Mae Kinne

Jeanne Mae Kinne, 88, of Alabama passed away on Friday November 29, 2019 at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo. She was born December 2, 1930 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Maude (Howard) Craft. Reuniting in heaven with her husband of 70 years; Arthur R. Kinne.

Jeanne along with her husband spent there many years working in the Alabama area. Getting started after marriage, Jeanne worked alongside with Art at Starkweather Egg Farms in Pembroke. They started their own Kinne Sport Shop on Church St. selling snowmobiles and hunting supplies.  Over the years, many folks have reminisced about the shop “Hunting Stories”. Jeanne also worked at Alexander’s in Batavia selling clothing. Jeanne and Art were the caretakers of the Alabama Cemetery for many years, and on top of all that, she worked at the US Post Office in Alabama, Basom. Jeanne certainly enjoyed life to the fullest. She went to the Alabama Methodist Church after marriage where she spent many years helping out with Sunday school. She belonged to the Old Fellows in Alabama with the Rebekah’s and never stopped with the Rebekah Creed; believe in friendship, love and truth. Within the 57 years she held many office positions and was the Noble Grand Officer. After the Alabama Lodge, she joined the Corfu, Lockport Lodges and was a member of the Alabama American Legion. She loved to play euchre, work on her flowers beds, play with her grandkids and drink good cup of coffee. Our hats are off to you Jeanne, the Alabama community will miss you, and by the way Jeanne, Happy 89th Birthday.

Surviving family members are her daughter; Patty Mae Pelton, son-in-law Ray Pelton; grandsons Bart and Clint Towne; great-grandchildren Kory Towne and Sophia Heverm; predeceased grandson Shane Towne.

There will be no prior calling hours. A 12:00PM Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday December 4, 2019 at the Alabama & Basom Methodist Church 1392 Church St. Alabama, NY 14013. Jeanne will be laid to rest in the Alabama Cemetery.

DOUGLAS A. BAUER

DOUGLAS A. BAUER  ~ Age 63, of Batavia, peacefully passed away on November 28, 2019 at  United Memorial Medical Center after a four-year courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Douglas was born in Batavia January 9, 1956 to the late Warren Bauer and Esther (Goodie) Carmel of East Bethany and a brother, Paul Bauer.

Douglas worked at Boyles International for over 30 years in the parts department as a salesman and excelled as a front counter customer services representative for the company. He was a caring and loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed word searches and crossword puzzles as well as watching NASCAR, classic TV shows, and westerns. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan, as well as a regular on bowling leagues where his best accomplishment was successfully hitting two 7-10 splits in a single game. He had a love for the holidays, especially Christmas, where his fun-loving, and joyous personality showed through. Douglas was an American history buff with the ability to educate anyone on dates and information especially when related to the presidents and any significant historical event.

Along with his mother he is survived by his children, Crystal (Russell) Joy of Batavia, Antoinette (Michael) Wood of Batavia and Michael (Paulina) Bauer of Pensacola, Florida; two grandchildren, Andrew and Skylar Wood; siblings, Carol Robinson of Batavia, Laura Cunningham of Attica and Jeff (Kim) Bauer of Batavia. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Lisa Armbrewster and her children, Tiffany  (Johnny) Anthony of NC and Joseph Colon of Alden; Lisa’s grandchildren, Alice, Destin, Maylee along with many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Doug’s Life Monday December 2 from 5:30 – 8p.m. at the Alexander United Methodist Church 10540 Main Street Alexander, New York 14005. Doug will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica and memorials in his memory can be made to his children to be disbursed to his favorite charities.

Robert J. "Bob" Barnard

Batavia - Robert J. "Bob" Barnard, 61, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019, at his home while under the care of HomeCare & Hospice and his loving family.

Bob was born August 17, 1958, in West Berlin, Germany, a son Mary (McMullen) Barnard of Perry and the late Charles W. Barnard.

A veteran, Bob served with the United States Army from 1976 to 1979.  Bob was a detention officer for the Buffalo Federal Detention Agency in Batavia and a member of Resurrection Parish.  Above all else, he will be remembered as a family man who cherished his grandchildren.

Surviving along with his mother are his wife, Debra (DiAntonio) Barnard of Batavia; children, Nicole (Ben) Chamberlain of North Chili, Amy (Dave) Tabbi of Clarence Center and Robert Barnard, II of Rochester; grandchildren, Jaiden, Luca and Dominic; brothers, John (Theresa) Barnard of Leicester, Brian Barnard of Perry, Thomas (Sophia) Barnard of Schertz, TX and Henry (Darleen) Barnard of Henderson, NV; his mother-in-law, Concetta DiAntonio of Batavia; his sisters-in-law, Sharon (Ronald) Robbins of Batavia, Mary Jo (Rick) Thomas of Batavia and Georgina (Bob Lawton) Buck of Oakfield and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his father, Bob is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Frank DiAntonio.

Calling hours are Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.  Bob's Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.  Entombment with military honors will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Batavia.

Merle Lee Case

Merle Lee Case, age 81, of Wyoming, NY, and Mulberry, Fla., passed away peacefully on October 11, 2019, with his family at his side

Merle was born March 2, 1938 to parents Lyle C. Case and Marian A Mitchell.

He is predeceased by his parents and son Daniel.

Merle is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Ethel Eichenberger Case, whom he married May 18, 1957; a son David (Peg Patterson) Case, of Corfu, NY; daughters Tamara (Bob) McElroy, of Marietta, Ga.; Brenda (Bob) Brown, of Wyoming, NY; Paula Case, of Warsaw, NY; and a brother Ronald (Leola), of Indianapolis, Ind.

 

Merle has 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Merle was a veteran, proudly serving in the Marine Corp.

He had a great love for golf, walking, playing cards, hunting, fishing and farming.

Merle was very dedicated to his family and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A funeral service for Merle will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019 at the Wyoming Baptist Church, Wyoming, NY.

Velma Hickok

Velma Hickok, 88, of Le Roy, formerly of Pavilion, passed away on Monday November 25, 2019 at the Le Roy Village Green. She was born on September 28, 1931 in Perry to the late Kenneth and Mabel (Petri) McVay. In addition to her parents, Velma is predeceased by her husband; Charles F. Hickok Jr. and son; Brian Hickok.

Velma was a retired Home Health Care Aid. She loved knitting, crocheting, and gardening. Velma was a member of Roanoke Community Church and was treasurer there for many years.

She is survived by her children; Alan Hickok of PA., Gary (Karen) Hickok of TN., Scott (Paula) Hickok of NC., Cathy Jordan of OR., Julia (Joseph) Matusak of Le Roy; brother Kenneth (Dorothy) McVay Jr. of NC; Elsie (Frederick) Taggart of Batavia; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

James A. Walsh

James A. Walsh, 74, of Batavia, NY, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019. He was born on February 7, 1945 in Batavia, NY to the late Eugene and the late Linda (Krause) Walsh. James was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Walsh.

James served in the United States Navy from 1965-1969. He retired from the Attica Correctional Facility after 34 years.

James is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lorraine (Wolfe) Walsh; brother, Robert Walsh; mother-in-law, Joan Wolfe; several sister-in-laws; several brother-in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held from 11 am – 1 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the Marley Funeral Home, LLC, 135 Main St., Attica, NY 14011. ROBERT A. "BOB" ABEL

ROBERT A. “BOB” ABEL ~ Age 65, of Byron, died Thursday evening November 21, 2019 at United Memorial Medical Center. Bob was born November 5, 1954 in Rochester, NY to the late Jack Abel and Shirley Barber of Churchville, NY.

Bob had a passion for cars and engines, especially NASCAR and Ford, he enjoyed “loud” music, always willing to share a good joke and had a great love for family and his time spent with his grandchildren

Surviving are his beloved daughters, Kristy (Joe) Ferra of Virginia Beach, VA, Kerri (Derek) Turner of Churchville and Shelby Abel of Bergen; cherished grandchildren, Joey, Eric, Breanna, Hannah, Haley, DJ and Zyaire, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Brayleigh and in early 2020 great-grandson, Zayden; siblings, Holly (Barry) Main and Tracy Clinton both of Wyoming along with several nieces and nephews.

Bob’s family will be present from 4-6p.m. on Monday November 25, 2019 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 6p.m. Memorials in his memory are suggested to the family.

Lyle W. Embt

Lyle W. Embt, 87, of Bethany, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019 in LeRoy, NY.  He was born on August 14, 1932 in Bethany, NY to the late William H. Embt Jr. and the late Edith M. (Norton) Embt.  Lyle was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Carol (Smith) in October of 2017.

As a young man, Lyle enjoyed his college years at Alfred Ag & Tech, even occasionally hitchhiking to NYC on weekends.  After graduation he returned home to nurture his dairy farm in conjunction with his Dad's poultry farm.  He and Carol raised their family on the farm. In addition to the toil and rigor of farm life, he worked 20 years as a bus driver for the Alexander School District.  Lyle’s country lifestyle fostered in him an independent spirit such that he was a self taught carpenter and mason. On the rare occasion he was not working Lyle enjoyed reading, mowing his lawn and communicating worldwide with his HAM radio equipment.  He was a perennial student of history, such that he devoured written accounts and thoroughly enjoyed an occasional trip to nearby states.  Visiting Gettysburg and Washington D.C. created special memories where he would soak up every word of every plaque, tour the sights, visit the monuments and relive the history in his mind. 

Lyle is survived by his children, Paul (Lori) Embt of Pavilion, Tim Embt of Bethany, Bob (Gail) Embt of Virginia, Becky (Mark) DiNardo of Maryland, Don (Susan) Embt of Virginia, Susan (Brian) Meyers of Bethany, Sarah (Phil) Miess of Henrietta, and Tom (Jennifer) Embt of Colden; 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

There will be no prior visitation and no services at the request of Lyle.

Daniel J. Alexander

BERGEN - Daniel J. Alexander, 68, of Bergen, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, (November 20, 2019), at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Mr. Alexander was born April 1, 1951, in Rochester, a son of the late Robert and Eloise (Blatchford) Alexander.

Dan was a bus driver with Churchville-Chili Central School for over 30 years, and was the owner of Alexander's IGA in N. Chili.  He was a butcher his entire life and a pro golfer at Batavia Country Club.  Mr. Alexander was a past member of both the Bergen and Churchville Volunteer Fire Departments, was an avid bowler and in his younger years, he raced motocross on flat tracks.

He is the husband of the late Lorraine (Trimble) Alexander who passed away on August 15, 2017; father of the late Daniel M. Alexander who passed away on May 10, 2017; and brother of the late Jay Alexander.

Surviving are his daughter, Kathryn (Greg) Swain of Caledonia; grandchildren, Braelyn and Brielle Swain; brothers, Bill (Rachel) Alexander and Larry (Jean) Alexander both of N. Chili, John (Peg) Alexander of Churchville, Steve (Michelle) Alexander of Alabama; a sister-in-law, Dot Alexander of Chili; his best buddy, Richard Werth of N. Chili.  Several nieces and nephews along with the entire Friday Night Golf Gang also survive.

Friends may call from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Tuesday at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 S. Lake Street in Bergen, where Dan's Memorial Service will immediately follow. Charles P. Pettinella

BATAVIA - Charles P. Pettinella, 91, of Rochester, formerly of Batavia, passed away Thursday, (November 21, 2019), at St. John's Nursing Home in Rochester.

Mr. Pettinella was born April 9, 1928, in Batavia, a son of the late Dominic and Theresa (Mastriano) Pettinella.

Charles was a member of Resurrection Parish and the former St. Nick's Social Club.  He was a true outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing.  Mr. Pettinella served his country honorably during World War II with the Army and worked for many years at GTE Sylvania as a Television Repairman.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mary (Owens) Pettinella of Rochester; son, Edward (Ann) Pettinella of Pittsford; daughter, Michele (Thomas) Worden of Pittsford; grandchildren, Ryan Pettinella of Pittsford, Cory (fiance Courtney Moore) Pettinella of Maryland, Paige (David) Bloom of Pittsford, Colin Worden of Rochester, and Harrison Worden of Pittsford.

Charles is preceded in death by his siblings, Louis Caiazza, Annette Versaggi, Dominic "Don" Taylor, and Angelo Pettinella.

Warner E. Hopkins

  Warner E. Hopkins, 92, of Bennington, passed away surrounded by his family on November 19, 2019. He was born on January 5, 1927 in Perry, NY to the late Charles and the late Ruth (Kessler) Hopkins. Warner was preceded in death by his siblings, Glenn Hopkins, Earl Hopkins, Pearl Griffith, and Eileen Kosikowski; his son-in-law, John Warner and his son-in-law, Paul Hendel.

Warner was a Dairy Farmer for over 50 years and, with his wife, founded For-Hope Dairy Farm. He was a volunteer Fireman for the Town of Bennington Fire Department. Warner served in the United States Navy during WWII followed by work at Westinghouse for over 20 years. He was a member of the Wyoming County Farm Bureau Board of Directors and he was Wyoming County Conservation Farmer of the Year. Warner was an avid bowler and he was very proud that he lived at the highest spot in Wyoming County.

Warner is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ruth (Forkl); his children, Judi (Don) Best, Doris Warner, Gary (Lynne) Hopkins, Donna (Jim) Zevola, Diane Hendel, and Joan (Paul) Kulczyk; sister-in-law, Helen Hopkins and brother-in-law, Rob Roy Griffith; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held from 11 am – 12 pm on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Marley Funeral Home, LLC, 135 Main St., Attica, NY 14011. A Funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica. JOHN JAMES GALLO, SR.

JOHN JAMES GALLO, SR. ~ Age 63, of Elba, died peacefully at the home of his companion while under the care of Hospice and his loving family on Saturday morning November 9, 2019. John was born November 18, 1955 in Batavia, NY to Frank Gallo of Batavia and the late Helen (Pratt) Rosokoff also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ann (Tydelski) Gallo on 2012.

John always took pleasure in helping friends and family. He never took life for granted and would try to capture as much beauty as his camera could hold. If he wasn’t out riding his motorcycle, or taking pictures, he would pick up his paint brush or find the next garage sale. He was a renaissance man at his best and he did one hell of a BBQ. We loved him dearly and he will hold a special place in all our hearts.

John is survived by his loving children, John J. (Michelle) Gallo, Jr. of Rochester and Marie (Jean Pierre) Gallo-Arevalo of Toronto, Canada; friend and soulmate, Jacqueline Meyer of Rochester and her family; mother-in-law, Dolores M. (Bay) Tydelski of Batavia; step-father, Sanford Rosokoff of Amherst; siblings, Anthony C. (Maryann) Gallo of Batavia, Frank S. Gallo of Batavia, Peter Rosokoff of Amherst and Jessica (Jon) Topper of Buffalo; members of the Tydelski family, his cherished granddaughter, Reina Patricia Arevalo along with several nieces and nephews.

The Gallo family will receive friends from 1-3p.m. on Sunday November 24, 2019 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where a Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3p.m. John will be laid to rest with his wife in St. Joseph’s Cemetery and memorials in his memory are suggested to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester at 1048 University Ave. Rochester, NY 14607
