Shirley E. Brumber

Shirley E. Brumber, 86 of Elba passed away Saturday November 16, 2013 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born September 30, 1927 in Batavia to the late Chester (Ernestine Schramm) Wiedrich. Mrs. Brumber worked for Black & Decker in Brockport. She is preceded in death by her first husband Lawrence Cooley; second husband Irving Brumber; son Douglas Cooley; stepson Dale Brumber; stepdaughter Nancy Rocklein; brothers Gerald and Donald Wiedrich.

She is survived by her son Larry Cooley; daughters Debbie (Mike) Kelly; Kimberly (Sharon) Brumber; brother Robert (Mary) Wiedrich; sisters Elsie Annunziata; Ruth (Joseph) DeFazio; 6 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Mary Rose Mogavero

Mary Rose Mogavero, 85 of Batavia, passed away on November 15, 2013 at the United Memorial Medical Center. She was born December 29, 1927 in Batavia to the late Matthew (Lena Cicero) Recchio. Mrs. Mogavero was a member of Ascension Parish. She is preceded in death by her husband Samuel A. Mogavero  in 2004, son Ralph J. “Ricky” Mogavero, daughter in law Kathleen Mogavero, brother Michael Recchio, and sister Helen DiPiazza.

Mary Rose is survived by her sons Matthew (Paula) Mogavero of Arizona, Charles Mogavero of Batavia, sister Antoinette Ciaccio of Batavia; brother Matthew Recchio of Florida. 3 Grandchildren, 2 great-grandchild; along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday November 20, 2013 at 9:30 AM at Resurrection Parish at 303 East Main St. in Batavia. Entombment will take place is St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.

GEORGE A. McCONNELL

George A. McConnell Age 87, of Batavia, died early Tuesday morning November 12, 2013 at his home. He was born December 25, 1925 in Brantford, Ontario to the late Gordon and Hilda (Barnes) McConnell.

   Mr. McConnell was retired from the US Postal Service in Batavia where he worked for many years. As a young man he quit school to join the United States Army during WWII and served in the European Theatre, many years later under the program Operation Recognition, George was able to receive his High School diploma of which he was most proud. He was a life member of the VFW, avid bowler, former member of the Elks and Moose Lodges, member and tireless volunteer of the SPCA for 9 years, a great fan of baseball and the New York Yankees. George will be remembered as a kind, gentle, generous man with a wonderful sense of humor who was loved by all who came in contact with him. George's greatest loves, his dear Candee, the SPCA and his cats.

   Surviving is his beloved wife with whom he was to celebrate their 25th anniversary November 19, Candee (Duttweiler) McConnell of Batavia; sons, Brian of Rochester and Gordon of Alabama; sister, Shirley (Robert) Buckley of Batavia; cousins, Ray (Bridgette) Hughes and their daughter, Carolann all of Oakville, Ontario, Alison (Bob) Rosborough of Maine, Georgia (Ben) Oh of Virginia; dear friends, Dana (Joe) Roman of Rochester; 2 grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Patricia A. Maxwell

Patricia A. Maxwell, 72, of Alden, died Wednesday (November 13, 2013) at Buffalo General Hospital.

She was born in Buffalo on November 28, 1940, a daughter of the late Richard and Florence Dziadaszek Hudomint.

Her husband, Ralph H. Maxwell died on June 25, 1990.

Patricia worked in the quality control department of Mennen Medical in Clarence, NY.

She is survivied by her children: Julie (Michael) Stachura of Alden, Donna Reinhardt (Michael Saeli) of Alden and Brenda (Thomas)
Griffin of Clarence. Stepchildren:
Donna (James) Smith of Akron, Daniel (Elaine) Maxwell of Depew and Darren (Emily) Maxwell of Alden.  Five grandchildren: Richard Donovan, Shawn (Megan) Donovan, Michael (Becky) Szczepanski, Nicholas Szczepanski and Chelsea Szczepanski. Her sisters: Arlene Jack of Williamsville, Joan (Eugene) Dziekan of Mesa, AZ and Jeanette (late Jerome) Jazwiecki of Akron.  Two brothers: Dennis (Eunice) Hudomint of Akron and Robert (Sandy) Hudomint of Akron.  Her dear friends, Nick Pelz of Lancaster and Charlie Enser of Lancaster.  She is the sister of the late Richard Hudomint and Michael Hudomint.

Carole J. Pettinella

Carole J. Pettinella of Batavia went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday (Nov. 14, 2013) at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville after a long illness.

She was born in Batavia on Oct. 31, 1934 to the late Joseph and Mary Gugino Barone. She graduated from Batavia High School in 1952 and married her high school sweetheart Angelo Pettinella on Feb. 20, 1954 at St. Anthony’s Church. In the 1970’s, Carole worked as manager of the Short Stop convenience store and Henry’s Restaurant, and as office assistant at Beltone, all in Batavia.

Carole accepted Jesus as her Savior in 1976, and was active in the church, participating in Bible studies, seminars and evangelical crusades. A member of Women’s Aglow International, she will be remembered as a strong witness for Christ through her compassion for others and through her angelic praise and worship.  Her favorite verse was Psalm 27:1 – “The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”

“Nana,” as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved spending time with her family, and was especially proud of all their accomplishments. Family and friends loved Carole’s delicious meals and desserts; she truly enjoyed cooking and baking, and generously shared with all who came to their home. She also was an avid bowler, having participated in leagues at Mancuso Bowling Center in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. She enjoyed spending time with her girlfriends, whether they were praising the Lord, dining or shopping.

She was predeceased by her son, David (July 22, 2007); grandson, David Jr., (Aug. 30, 2005), and sister-in-law, Judith Barone (July 20, 2008).

Carole is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Angelo; son and daughter-in-law, Michael (Wendy) Pettinella of Batavia; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas (Betsy) Pettinella, of Batavia; brother, Anthony (Marge) Barone of Batavia; grandchildren, Teressa Pettinella, Leanna (Dan) DiRisio, Bryan Pettinella, Adam Pettinella, Jennifer Cudney and Kelly Cudney, all of Batavia, and Philip Pettinella and Matthew (Meghan) Chartraw, both of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Christian Peek, Jenae Colkey, Haylee Thornley, Vincent DiRisio, Luciana DiRisio, Brycen Pettinella and Gage Pettinella, all of Batavia; nieces, Jodi (Scott) Fisher of Oakfield, Suzanne Barone, Toni (Ron) Funke, Amy Barone and Nicole (Rich) Boyce, all of Batavia; great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

As per Carole’s wishes, there will be no prior visitation and the family will gather to celebrate her life at their convenience. SHARON LEE VOORHEES ODERKIRK

Stafford - Mrs. Sharon Lee Voorhees Oderkirk, age 71, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Hildenbrandt Hospice Care Center.

She was born November 11, 1942 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Harold and Edna Warren Voorhees.

She worked for the New York State Thruway Authority and was secretary for the First United Methodist Church of Batavia. She served as secretary for the Genesee County Agricultural Society for 30 years, Bergen Historian and was a member of the Bergen Grange. She enjoyed traveling, puzzles, researching genealogy on the Voorhees side of her family, playing the Wii and her dog, Zena.

She is survived by her husband, David G. Oderkirk; her former husband, Warren C. (Ann) Pocock of Bergen; three children, Dawn (Ryeder) Dilcher of Byron, Heather (Ken) Gillette-Nenni of Albion and Brian (Laurie) Pocock of Stafford; her step-children, Warren Oderkirk of Byron, Andrew (Michelle) Oderkirk of Michigan, Audra Bates of Byron, Christa Oderkirk of Batavia and Pam (Aaron) Sharp of Byron; 20 grandchildren; her great-granddaughter Anna and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is the sister of the late Ralph Voorhees.

Kelli L. (Snider) Graves

Kelli was born on August 10, 1973 in Batavia, New York a daughter of L. Stephen (Candice Wilson) Snider. She passed away November 10, 2013 at Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by the love of her family after a 33 year brave and courageous battle with cancer. Kelli was a 1992 graduate of Perry High School, and graduated from SUNY Cortland with her masters degree in education. She was a 7th and 8th grade science teacher at Keshequa Central School in Nunda for 15 years. She enjoyed teaching her students at Keshequa, trying to make a difference in each of their lives. She enjoyed camping, animals, and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Shirley Snider and Verna (Charles) Wilson; father-in-law Harry J. Graves Jr.

She is survived by her beloved husband Gregory M. Graves whom she married on October 6, 2006, her loving parents; L. Stephen and Candi Snider of Warsaw, her daughter: Bayley Graves at home, a step-daughter; Amanda Graves of Friendship, a paternal grandfather; Lawrence Snider of Holley, mother-in-law; Marguerite Graves of Springhill, Fl., sister-in-law; Brenda (Robert) Borne of Wellsville, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and her extended family at Keshequa Central School.

Timothy C. Costanzo

Timothy C. Costanzo, 43 of Batavia, passed away Tuesday November 12, 2013 at his home in Batavia. He was born January 13, 1970 in New Hartford to Robert A. (Jane E. Mullen) Costanzo of Batavia. Tim was a member of Resurrection Parish. He is preceded in death by his sister Nadine Costanzo.

He is survived by his brother Scott (Shannon) Costanzo, his niece Eva Costanzo, nephew Cade Costanzo all of Chili and close friend James Preedom of Batavia.

Dillard A. Judd

Dillard A. Judd, 78, of Batavia, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday (November 9, 2013) at Genesee County Nursing Home.

He was born in Starke, FL on October 10, 1935, a son of the late Dillard and Celia Judd.

Dillard grew up in Starke, FL and was an animal control officer prior to moving to Batavia.  He was a carpenter for numerous business’s in the Batavia area.  He was also involved with the Civil Air Patrol in his younger years.

Dillard was the husband of the late Ruth Ann Judd.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan (Marty) Sellers of Starke, FL. Brothers, Thomas (LaVerne) Judd of Graham, NC, John (Nancy) Judd of Ashville, NC.  Sister, Judy Stastny of Keystone Hieghts, FL.  Also survived by nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation.  Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Leonard E. Rospierski

Leonard E. Rospierski, 71 of Chaffee, NY, died Monday (November 11, 2013) at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
 
He was born in Wilkes Barre, PA on November 25, 1941, a son of the late Alexander and Frances Gull Rospierski.
 
Leonard was an Electrical Foreman at the University of Buffalo South Campus prior to his retirement. He enjoyed nature, woodworking, automobiles and his canine friends.
 
Survivors include his companion of 26 years, Mary Irene Brewer of Chaffee. Children, Len (Susan) Rospierski, Jill (Jeff) Moore and Jeffrey (Jodi) Rospierski, all of Alden.  Grandchildren, Jacob, Kristina, Shaunna, Hailey and Justin.  Sisters, Janice (Evan) Evans of Buffalo and Debra Lamancusa of Tonawanda.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
 
Family and friends may gather to share memories, condolences and thoughts on Wednesday (November 13th) from 4-8pm at the J. Randall A. "Randi" Miller

Randall A. "Randi" Miller, 26 of Lancaster formerly of Cowlesville  passed away November 9, 2013. She was born May 19, 1987 in Warsaw to Douglas H. (Nancy M. Kilian) Miller of Cowlesville. Randi loved the outdoors, doing landscaping and she was a very talented artist. She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Bennington. Randi was an excellent athlete especially softball. She will be remembered as being very kind hearted. She is preceded in death by her grandfather Ralph R. Kilian. 

Randi is survived by her parents; sisters Alexandria R. Miller, Georgie A. Miller, grandmother Arlene Kilian all of Cowlesville; grandparents Herman (Ester) Miller of North Java; loving boyfriend Jake Wujek of Lancaster along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Genevieve Jo Shaffer, of Perry passed away on November 7, 2013 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born November 6, 2013 to Chad M. (Hillary T. Beaumont) Shaffer of Perry.

Along with her parents Genevieve is survived by her grandparents Ward (Barb) Beaumont; Dave (Dawn) Borden; uncles Matt Beaumont; Shane Shaffer; William (Heather Dates) Borden all of Perry along with numerous great aunts, uncles and cousins.

Frank Strollo

Punta Gorda, FL/Batavia – Frank Strollo, 71, of Punta Gorda, Fl and formerly of Batavia, passed away suddenly on Monday (October 28, 2013) at his home.

Mr. Strollo was born May 14, 1942, a son of the late Ralph and Virginia (Fiore) Strollo.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Punta Gorda and a former member of St. Anthony’s Church in Batavia.  He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Batavia Golf Club as well as the St. Andrews South Golf Club in Punta Gorda.  He was a retired corrections officer and was a member of the Forgotten Victims of Attica.

Frank is the husband of Grace (Almeter) Strollo of Punta Gorda, Fl.  The two were married May 1, 1979 and enjoyed 34 wonderful years together.

Surviving along with his wife are his children, Frank J. Strollo of Rochester, Christine (Scott) Harris of Point Venture, Tx, Michelle (Michael) Perkins of Pavilion, Philip Boss of East Bethany, and Luanne Jacobs of Batavia; grandchildren, Frank, Anthony, Ethan, Mason, Zachary, Hannah, Kaleigh, Taylor, and Jenna; siblings, Anthony (Kathleen) Strollo of Albany, Florence (Donald) Skinner of Batavia, Mary Ann Strollo of Rochester, and Delores (Michael) Fee of Rochester.  Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Milburn C. "Mel" Parmerter

Milburn C. “Mel” Parmerter, 75 of Attica passed away at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.

Born August 5, 1938, in Gainesville, he was the son of the late George and Hazel Bauer Parmerter. On August 26, 1961 he married Jeanette “Jenny” Matteson and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He served in the U.S. Army from December 1955 through December 1958, stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska.  He was a Union Painter for 26 years working out of Local 43 in Buffalo. In 1984 he began working in maintenance at Wyoming Correctional Facility and retired from Attica Correctional Facility in 2004.  He was a member of West Star Lodge 413 Free and Accepted Masons in Varysburg and a life member of the Varysburg Fire Department.

He was fondly called “Uncle Mel” by family and friends alike; to know him was to love him. Survivors include his wife Jenny of 52 years, one son, Carl (Sue) of Attica, and two daughters, Cheryl Stringham of Attica, and Chris (Darren Krawczyk) Parmerter of Johnsonburg; four granddaughters; Courtney (Michael) Vogel of Jacksonville, NC, Carissa Parmerter, and Eliza and Emily Stringham all of Attica.

Mel donated his body to the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Family and friends are welcome to join us at Quality of Work Life Building, Exchange St, Attica on Sunday, November 10th from 1-4 pm, where a celebration of life service will be held at 2 pm and a light luncheon to follow.

Mrs. Moag enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Batavia, crocheting and art work. She is preceded in death by her son Christopher Moag; brother Charles Buckenmeyer; sisters Elizabeth Buckenmeyer and Mary Falkowski.

Lucy is survived by her son Michael (Cindy) Moag of Batavia; daughters Colleen DeBuyser of Rochester; Lisa (Zynon) Putney of Brockport; brothers Francis Buckenmeyer of Alexander; George (Dorothy) Buckenmeyer of FL; Bernard (Jerry) Buckenmeyer of Alexander; sisters Catherine (Paul) Raines of Alexander; Dorothy Moynihan of Batavia; Margaret (James) Hoffman of Attica; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday November 11, 2013 from 7 to 9 PM at the Marley Funeral Home, LLC 135 Main St. Attica, NY 14011. A 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday November 12, 2013 at Our Lady of Good Counsel 10677 Alleghany Rd. Darien Center, NY 14040. She will be laid to rest in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Attica.
