Antoinette A. O'Geen

LeRoy ~ Antoinette A. O'Geen, age 94, formerly of Myrtle Street, passed away Monday afternoon (June 30, 2014) at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home.

     Mrs. O'Geen was born September 22, 1919 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Anthony and Carmella Corrado Strollo.

     She will be remembered as a very loving person, who was very active and full of energy.  She enjoyed working around her yard, bingo and visiting with her family.

     She is survived by her siblings, Rose Strollo of Batavia, Florence Macaluso of LeRoy, Albert Strollo of Batavia and Anthony (Jean) Strollo of Byron, along with many nieces and nephews. 

     She was predeceased by her husband, John O'Geen, and her siblings, Mary (Alfonso) Ficarella, Pauline (Joseph) O'Geen, Frances Miceli, Michael (Ann) Strollo and Alfred (Mary) Strollo.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 3 ~ 7 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  Her Rite of Christian Burial will be on Thursday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Joseph's Oratory, 27 Lake St., LeRoy, with interment to follow in St. Francis Cemetery.

Ryan M. English

Ryan M. English, 23 of Attica, passed away on Saturday June 28, 2014 at his residence. He was born on November 1, 1990 in Batavia to Brian P. English of Corfu and Sandra J. (Twardowski) English of Attica. Ryan worked for Links at Ivy Ridge in Akron. He loved spending time with his son Noah and his family. Ryan is preceded in death by his grandparents Arthur (Rosemary) Twardowski and Chester P. English.

Ryan is survived by his son Noah English, a brother Brett A. English and his grandmother Joy E. (John) Livermore along with many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday July 3, 2014 from 4 to 7 PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main Street Attica, NY 14011. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday July 4, 2014 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica where he will be laid to rest.

JOSEPHINE N. BOYD

JOSEPHINE N. BOYD - Age 88, of Batavia, died peacefully Saturday morning June 28, 2014 at her home. She was born August 30, 1925 in Batavia, NY to the late Sidney and Jane (McCarthy) Nevin also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Warner, Phil Luttrell and Freda Gamble.

   Mrs. Boyd was a telephone operator for the former NY Telephone and a member of the Telephone Pioneers, she enjoyed golf and playing cards.

   Surviving is her beloved husband of over 50 years, James Boyd of Batavia; daughter, Deborah (William) Evans of Reno, NV; a granddaughter, several nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors past & present.

   Family and friends may visit from 1-2 p.m. Thursday July 3, 2014 at the Michael S. GARY W. BUSENLEHNER

GARY W. BUSENLEHNER – Age 66, of Attica, died Friday afternoon June 27, 2014 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born April 13, 1948 in Buffalo, a son of Beverly (Salisbury) of Dunkirk, NY and the late Louis Busenlehner also preceded in death by his brother, David.

   Mr. Busenlehner was retired from USF Holland and is a United States Army Veteran. An active Mason and past DDGM of the Genesee & Wyoming District and a member of the Masonic War Veterans.

   Surviving along with his mother are his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, Kenneth, sister, Barbara along with many nieces and nephews.

   Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday July 2, 2014 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWKSI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 WEST MAIN STREET ROAD BATAVIA, NEW YORK 14020 where funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. followed by a Masonic service and military honors. Bradley J. Wolcott

Bradley J. Wolcott, 47 of Dale, passed away on Friday June 27, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born on April 28, 1967 in Batavia to Douglas M. (Charlotte Abrahamsen) Wolcott of Dale.

Brad worked as an Industrial Training Supervisor at Attica Correctional Facility and had 20 years with New York State Dept of Corrections. He was a man of many talents including maple syruping, bee keeping and woodworking. Brad was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt. He enjoyed traveling especially with his wife Colleen and he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need of anything.

Bradley is survived by his beloved wife Colleen L. (Steves) Wolcott of Dale; daughter Jessica M. Wolcott of Pavilion; step-children Chad D. Klier of Lancaster and Kristie D. Kleir of FL; brothers Gregory D. of Caledonia; Timothy R. (Dawn) of Attica; sisters Christine M. McCulloch of Dale; Jennifer L. Crane of Bethany; two step-grandchildren Branden and Paige Rieser-Klier, father and mother in law  Henry (Penny) Steves of Alexander,  brothers and sisters in laws Henry (Sue) Steves of NC, Gary and Tammy (Steves) Bogardus of Attica, along with many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy M. Hardy

LeRoy ~ Dorothy M. Hardy, age 90, of East Main Road, passed away at home on Thursday evening, June 26, 2014.

     Mrs. Hardy was born February 12, 1924, a daughter of the late Lynn and Margaret Wood Sr.

     She is survived by her children; Paul Hardy Sr. of LeRoy, John Hardy of Lockport and Anna Hutton of LeRoy, a brother, Lynn (Patti) Wood of Kent, 5 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" Hardy, a son, James Hardy and a daughter in law, Dianna Hardy.

CARLETON POMEROY JR.

CARLETON POMEROY JR. – Age 95, of LeRoy, formerly of Unadilla, NY died peacefully Thursday morning June 26, 2014 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. He was born December 15, 1918 in Unadilla a son of the late Carleton & Agnes R. (Kilpatrick) Pomeroy Sr.

   Mr. Pomeroy spent all his life in Unadilla until he and his wife moved to the Village Green six months ago. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Colgate University in 1941 and was a member of the Commons Club and Phi Beta Kappa.

   Carl was employed at Bendix in Sidney, NY for 41 years retiring in 1982 as Engineering Manager in charge of the Engineering Materials Lab. While at Bendix he belonged to the Society of Plastics Engineers, The American Society for Testing Materials and the Aerospace Committee of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He was the Bendix Corporate Gatekeeper responsible for expertise in Plastics and Elastomers for all Bendix Divisions.

   He belonged to the Lewis H. Morgan Chapter of the New York State Archeological Association and the Eastern States Archeological Association, The Sidney Engineers Club and the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce. He was a Past President of Freedom Lodge #324 F & A.M., and a member of the Walter L. Hunt Chapter R.A.M.

   He was a professional musician in the 40's belonging to the Musicians Union. He was a competitive bowler for over 40 years, belonging to a number of leagues in the Sidney Bowling Association. He was inducted into the Tri-County Bowling Hall of Fame in September 1992.

   He is survived by his loving wife, Lona M. (Root) Pomeroy of LeRoy after sharing  their 72nd wedding anniversary on May 14, 2014; daughters, Diane (William E.) Wormsley of Durham, NC and Laraine (William E.) Caton of Batavia; grandchildren, Edward J. (Paula) Caton of Stafford, Ellen C. (Adam) Brokaw of Batavia and Patai B. (Stephanie) Wormsley of Harrisburg, PA; great-grandchildren, Carson, Carly & Bailey.     

   Family and friends may visit from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday June 29, 2014 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York. A graveside remembrance service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday July 2 at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Unadilla, NY where he will be laid to rest. Samuel P. Tomaselli

Samuel P. Tomaselli, “Sammy T.”, 69, of Batavia, died Friday (June 27, 2014) at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo. 
 
He was born in Batavia on July 2, 1944 a son of the late George and Helen Cichocki Tomaselli. 
 
Sammy was a veteran of the US Navy having served from 1963 to 1967 and attained the rank of SK3. He was retired from General Mortors Valeo in Rochester and had worked for the City of Batavia for many years.   He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and enjoyed golfing, bowling and numerous other sports. 
 
Surviving is his wife, Nancy Aliano Tomaselli  whom he married over 40 years ago.  A daughter, Ginelle (Greg) Ireland of Batavia.  Daughter Jennifer and step children, Nicholas, Christine and Cheryl.  Nine grandchildren and a great granddaughter.  A sister, Georginne (Jack) Majerus of Batavia, two brothers, George Jr. (Maxine Parada) of Medina and James (Connie Chatley) of East Pembroke.  Brother in law, Irvin Bartz of Batavia.  He is the brother of the late Diane Bartz.  Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins also survive. 
 
Friends may offer their condolences, thoughts and fond memories at the J. Michael E. Smart

Michael E. Smart, 44, of Attica passed away on Thursday June 26, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on March 2, 1970 in Batavia to Robert (Lucilie Wilder) Smart of Texas. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law Robert Ahl.

Michael was a 1988 Batavia High School graduate. He was extremely proud of being elected Town Supervisor of Attica. He currently worked as a village employee, and previously for the Department of Works in Batavia.  Michael just started riding motorcycles with the Patriot Guard Riders.  He loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed his friends, coffee shops, farming and camping. He was known for being easy going, helping others and always smiling. People that knew him would say that he was a jokester and there wasn’t a mean bone in his body.

Michael is survived by his wife Janet (Ahl) Smart of Attica, son Riley Malone of Batavia, mother-in-law Barbara Ahl of Attica, brother Douglas (Bernadette) Smart of Batavia, sisters Sue (Frank) Henry of TX; Janice (George Arnold) Smart of Batavia, sisters-in-law Deborah (Harold) Cratsley of Attica; Sandra (Gordon Biehl) Prusak of Attica, nieces and nephews Jennifer Sweet; Erica, Kayla, and Jessie Henry; Steven Cotter II; Jeremy Arnold; Douglas Smart Jr.; Brandon and Tyler Smart; James Prusak Jr.; Amanda Cratsley along with several great nieces and nephews.

Charles K. Thayer

Charles K. Thayer, 90, of Pembroke, a farmer all his life, died Wednesday (June 25, 2014) at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Thayer was born in Perry Jan. 16, 1924.  He was a son of Herman Thayer and Stella Safford Thayer Schiller and a stepson of Daniel Schiller.  A graduate of Perry Central School, he worked in the Perry Knitting Mill and on various farms until 1959, when he bought his own dairy farm, Gra-Chuck Farm, in Pembroke.  He also drove school bus for Pembroke Central School in the 1960s.  He lived a simple life, and was known as a hard worker who took care of his family and farm.  He had a great sense of humor and knew how to tell a good story. He also enjoyed woodworking.

He and his wife, Grace Snyder Thayer of Pembroke, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary Feb. 9.

Mr. Thayer was the brother of the late Ellis and LaVerne Thayer and Edith Bathrick, and stepbrother of the late Perry Schiller.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Sharon (late Kenneth) Larsen of Pembroke, Douglas (Shirley) Thayer of Watkins Glen, Daniel (Tracy) Thayer of Pembroke and Melody (Thomas) Gorman of Kirkville.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Thomas Thrane) Larsen Fuller of Schuylerville, Charles Larsen of Oakfield, Nicholas Thayer of Watkins Glen; Sarah, Danielle and Zoe Thayer, all of Pembroke; Cassandra, Patrick and Michael Gorman, all of Kirkville; Christine Gorman of East Syracuse; and Jennifer (John) Draper of Oakfield; and five great-grandchildren, Noel and Julian Thayer-Sunseri  of Pembroke, Iliana and Camden Draper of Oakfield and Ryan Gardner of East Syracuse.  A sister, Joan Nevinger of Florida, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

CLYDE WILLIAM DICKES

CLYDE WILLIAM DICKES – Age 78, lifelong resident of Elba, died peacefully Sunday morning June 22, 2014 in Topsail Island, NC. He was born October 24, 1935 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Edward & Marian (Hoy) Dickes, also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred (Seibert); siblings, Richard, Gary and Elaine Kaufman, Francis Hoy.

   Mr. Dickes retired from Birdseye Foods in Brockport in 1999. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and was an avid golfer

   Surviving is his companion, Sandy Wills of Elba; son, Patrick (Cheryl Mcrae) Dickes of Manlius, NY; daughters, Vicki (Mark) McShane of Lacona, NY, Michele (Anthony) Buczek of E. Bethany, NY and Liza (Russ) Peet of LeRoy, NY; brothers, Neal (Sharon) Dickes, Thomas (Sandy) Dickes & Terry (Peggy) Dickes all of Batavia; sister, Lynda Dickes of Chapel Hill, NC; sister-in-law, Frances Dickes of Elba; 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

   Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service 2:00 p.m. Monday June 30, 2014 at Springvale Cemetery in Elba where he will be laid to rest. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

   A gathering will be held at the Elba Rec. Hall following the service.

NICOLE MARIE SHEEHAN

NICOLE MARIE SHEEHAN - Age 29, of Lancaster, formerly of Batavia, died Friday  June 20, 2014 at UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. She worked as a primary instructor at People, Inc. in Buffalo and was a former sales associate at Macy's Dept. Store. She was born June 17, 1985 in Batavia, NY to Suzanne (Dunham) Ball of Batavia and Michael Sheehan of TN.

   Nicole was a Batavia High School graduate and attended Genesee Community College and graduated from Geneseo State College with a Special Education degree. Nicole had a love for children, the outdoors, gardening and crafts. She was an avid football fan of the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers. She enjoyed family parties and an excuse to dress up.

   Nicole will be remembered for her infectious smile, selfless attitude and her joy of gift giving. In keeping with Nicole's loving and generous spirit her final gift on this earth was that of being an organ and tissue donor. She shared the Gift of Life with numerous families so their loved ones may live on. In this senseless tragedy Nicole is looking down from heaven and smiling on us all.

   Surviving along with her parents are two brothers, Jeremy (Emily) Sheehan of LeRoy and Ryan Sheehan of TN; two nieces, Holly and Lyric and a nephew, Jeremiah and Suzanne's long time significant other, Michael Shaughnessy; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

   Family and friends may visit from 3-8 p.m. Friday June 27, 2014 at the Michael S. Tomaszewki Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road, New York 14020 where a Celebration of Nicole's Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 28. Joseph P. Strogen

Elizabeth, CO - Joseph P. Strogen, 92, of Elizabeth, CO, and formerly of Batavia, passed away Sunday, (January 19, 2014) at his daughter’s home , in Colorado. 

Mr. Strogen was born March 19, 1921 in Batavia, a son of the late John and Mary (Meterko) Strogen.

Joe served his country honorably during World War II. 

Mr. Strogen was a former employee of Batavia Metal Products and Doehler-Jarvis in Batavia prior to moving to California in 1963.  There he worked into his 70s as a machinist with Lockheed Martin, GSR Sloan Co., and Flo Control.  In his later years he worked to design and maintain machinery for plastic pipe fittings. 

He greatly enjoyed traveling with his wife, baseball, fishing, and hunting.  He was also an avid reader. 

Joeseph was a member of the Moose Lodge in Batavia and Warsaw, the VFW and the American Legion.

He is the husband of the late Elva (Hyde) Strogen who passed away in January 2004.

Surviving are his children, Paul D Strogen of Daly City, CA, James A. (Virginia) Strogen of Sun Rise Beach, MO, and Mylynne (Wayne) Austgen of Elizabeth, CO; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Darin Strogen of MN, Eric Austgen of Elizabeth, CO, Rachel Hurst of Aurora, CO, Susan Austgen of Elizabeth, CO, and Jim Wolford of PA.  12 great-grandchildren also survive.

Joseph is preceded in death by his siblings, Frank, Jean and Helen.

There will be no prior visitation.  Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, (June 28, 2014) at West Bethany Cemetery, Brown Road, Bethany.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021.

Alfonso S. Attardi

Alfonso S. Attardi, 85, of Batavia passed away on Sunday June 22, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born on May 17, 1929 in Batavia to the late Dominick and Vanera (Maio) Attardi. He is preceded in death by his sister Angeline Giordano.

Mr. Attardi was a United States Army Veteran. He  was a former employee at GTE Sylvania and worked for Philips Manufacturing in Knoxville, Tennessee before retiring. Alfonso enjoyed fishing, golfing, the casinos and most importantly his family. He was a member of Ascension Parish, past member of Stafford Country Club and life member of the former St. Nicholas Social Club.

(Pricola) Attardi, son Dominic (Jill) Attardi of Farmington, daughters Vanessa (Philip) Overfield of Webster; Jamie (Francis) O’Mara of Hilton, grandchildren Michael (Erin); Andrew; Nicole; and Adrienne Overfield, Danielle and Shawn O’Mara, Sophia, Dominick and Angelo Attardi, great-grandchildren Kayla Overfield-Magana and Joseph Schultz survive along with many nieces and nephews.

James J. Baker

James J. Baker, age 70, of Perry, died on Saturday June 21, 2014 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.He was born in Buffalo, New York on February 13, 1944 a son of the late Clement and Betty (Strozewski) Baker.

James was a United States Army Veteran.  He retired from New York State Department of Transportation in Warsaw, where he had worked for many years. He was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) in Perry. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, and being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife Peggy (Gorman) Baker whom he married on June 7, 1969, sons; James (Liana) Baker of Rochester, Michael (Jennifer) Baker of Perry; brothers Gary (Barbara) Baker of Niagara Falls, Kenneth Baker of Lakewood, Ronald (Patricia) Baker of Dothan, AL., Gregory (Andrea) Baker of St. Petersburg, FL., grandchildren; Vanessa, Zachery, Amelia and Addison Baker, along with many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) in Perry on Thursday June 26th at 11:00 A.M.
