Batavia – Amelita “Lee” Colangelo, 93 of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at her home while under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

She was born Sunday, March 2nd, 1930 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Alexander Colangelo and Philomena Orlando Colangelo. 

A member of Resurrection Parish in Batavia, Lee was a world traveler having visited six of the seven continents. An avid skier and swimmer, she loved all animals, especially cats. Lee taught for many years in the Rochester School System and was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association. She worked at Esquire Magazine in New York City in the 1950’s.

Her family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to all of Lee’s caregivers for the devoted care they gave to her throughout the years.

She is survived by her nephews, Francis N. Penna, Jr. of Batavia and Michael Cuviello of Maryland; her niece, Marianne (Michael) Kenny of Rochester, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. 

She is predeceased by her siblings, Anthony (Martha) Colangelo, Anita (James) Cuviello, Mary (Francis N. Sr.) Penna, Louis (Rita) Colangelo, Dante Colangelo and Jeanette (Ken) Seward. 

There are no prior visiting hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Nancy Lou Wilson entered eternal rest on August 14, 2023 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home with her loving husband and family by her side.

 She was born Nancy Lou Green on March 28^th, 1941 in Olean, N.Y. to the late Edwina and Cecil Green.

     She is survived by her husband, Floyd Wilson and four children; Lloyd (Veronica) Dodge of LeRoy, Barbara (Brian) Bundrock of Batavia, Cindy (Mark) Fisher of Appleton, Wisconsin and Lyle Dodge of Batavia.  Her son, Loren J. Dodge predeceases Nancy, as well as her first husband, Lloyd J. Dodge Sr., her daughter-in-law, Colleen Dodge and granddaughter, Nancy J. Dodge.  She has several loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  Nancy still has family in the Southern Tier region including her sister, Judy (Leroy) Sweiger and brother, Franklin aka Butch (Gay) Green as well as many nieces and nephews.

     A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 23^rd at 1:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 8703 Lake Street Road, LeRoy, N.Y. 14482

Kathryn (Kathy) Marie Dziekan, 79 of Pavilion passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 15, 2023.
     Kathy was born in Kingman, Arizona on April 3, 1944, daughter of  the late Thomas and Joan (Conover) Cable.  Her military parents lived in numerous cities, providing experiences and beloved stories for their family to share and remember.  Kathy married Francis S. Dziekan on October 16, 1964, who preceded her in death in December, 2000.
   

  Kathy worked in many capacities, including Pavilion Central School cafeteria, Adams Insurance Agency and Young's and Linfoot Insurance, but was always a Mother first.  When Kathy’s children were young, “stay at home mom” was not a “job,” but rather what mothers did while their husbands went to work.  Kathy was an exceptional mother and wife, she cared deeply for her family and friends, and worked tirelessly to please everyone, not out of obligation, but because of who she was.  She ensured all who stepped into her home were safe, happy and fed!
     Kathy embraced the holiday season, creating the most elegant décor, her Christmas tree was second to none!  Kathy opened her home to friends and family providing holiday meals and cookies beyond expectation.  She loved music and dancing, long walks, trips to visit her children and grandchildren, working in her yard and gardens, and watching her children and grandchildren compete in sports.
     Kathy is survived by her children, John (Stephanie) Dziekan of Haymarket, VA, Scott (Kelly) Dziekan of Austin, TX, Daryl (Rebecca) Dziekan of Pavilion, NY, and Kerry (Shaun) Milligan of Merritt Island, FL; grandchildren, Emma, Jessica, Bennett, Clayton, Dylan, Garrett and Colton; sister, Jean (Phil) Lopez of Kokomo, IN, brother-in-law, Steve Bluse of Bunker Hill, IN, brother, Harvey Cable of Walton, IN, and brother, Tom Reid (Jan) Cable of IN.
     Kathy was predeceased by her sister, Betty Jo Bluse and sister-in-law, Karen Cable.
     Family and friends will gather to share stories and memories on Saturday, September 23rd from 3 ~ 4 P.M., with a Remembrance Service to begin at 4:00 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd., LeRoy, N.Y.  A celebration of Kathy’s life at BW’s Restaurant, located at 11070 Perry Rd, Pavilion NY will follow at 5:00 PM.

Norma J. Maliszewski, 95 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (August 15, 2023) at home under the loving care of her family and Hospice Care.

She was born June 7, 1928 in Batavia, a daughter of the late William J. and Bernice Bartz Porter.

Norma worked at the former Sylvania Manufacturing prior to meeting her husband, Leo Maliszewski, where he operated a local dental practice here in Batavia. She loved animals, singing and doing artwork. She also enjoyed reading, especially her prayerbook. Norma will be missed by all who knew her.

She is predeceased by her husband, Leo Maliszewski who died December 27, 2002 and siblings, William A. Porter and Jack Porter.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Harold) Odell of Batavia. Brother, Donald Porter of Batavia. Sister, Lorraine Nash of Oswego and several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Grandview Cemetery.

Robert C. Moscicki, PE, age 88, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Batavia NY, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2023, at Heidi's Haven in Lady Lake, FL. Bob was born in Batavia, NY on August 13, 1934, the son of the late Cecil and Helen (Wujick) Moscicki. Bob married Leona, (Lee) (Sobolewski) Moscicki on July 7, 1956, and lived in Batavia, NY until they relocated to Leesburg, FL in 2007. Bob was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church of Leesburg.  Bob and Lee were happily married for 59 years. Bob is survived by his daughter, Saundra (Sandy) Moscicki (Partner, Carmen Stief) of Cape Cod, MA. Pre-deceased by his wife Leona, son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Cheryl (MacArthur) Moscicki, his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Willard Preston and his brother-in-law, Bayne Johnson.

  Bob is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carol (Sobolewski) Johnson of Silver Springs, NY, granddaughter, Jela Gerrard and three great-grandchildren of Warsaw, NY, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. Bob is also survived by his dear family friends, Phil and Tina Marks family and Ken and Leigh Ann Pyc family.

     Bob graduated from Batavia High School in 1951. He attended Buffalo State Technical College and the University of Buffalo, then he served in the US Army Reserves. Bob began working as an Engineer at Graham Manufacturing Company in Batavia, NY in 1956. He obtained his Professional Engineering License in 1969. Bob was promoted to Quality Assurance Engineering Manager, and then retired in 2000 as Vice President of Graham Manufacturing Corporation.

     Bob was an exceptional drummer and enjoyed playing in dance bands around Batavia NY, he also offered private drum lessons. He was a drummer with Mighty St. Joe’s Drum Corps, and also directed the drum line. Bob could still play an amazing paradiddle on his drum pad just months prior to his passing.

     Bob and his wife, Lee and family spent summers at their cottage on Silver Lake, in Perry, NY for 29 years, from 1974 to 2003. He enjoyed his time with his beloved "Lake Family", close friends and neighbors at the lake. Bob had a double garage built across the street from the cottage and it was named “Bob’s Garage”, where he had his work bench and all his tools. It was a place where all his friends would gather.  He really enjoyed his Lake Family and get togethers in his garage. Everyone there knew that Bob’s birthday was like a famous holiday, and his Lake Family aways spoiled him with wonderful birthday parties.

     There will be a Mass at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Leesburg, FL on August 28, 2023, at 8:30 AM. There will be a Celebration of Life Ceremony at 11:00 AM on the same day at a location to be determined.  Beyer's Funeral Home of Leesburg, FL are overseeing the arrangements.
     At a later date to be announced, there will be a Mass at Ascension Parish Catholic Church in Batavia, NY.  Immediately following Mass there will be graveside services at Saint Joseph's Cemetery in Batavia, NY, where Bob will be laid to rest with his wife, Lee and their son, Bruce. A Celebration of Life will take place after the burial. Local arrangements completed by the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc. in LeRoy.

Vernon J. Marzolf, December 10, 1936 - August 14, 2023 Of Darien N.Y. Passed away peacefully August 14, 2023. Vern attended St. Mary's High School in Lancaster,  where he was an exceptional baseball player. Vern proudly served in the Navy Reserves from 1954-1962. He worked in his family business, Demuth-Marzolf Fuel Oil, before he became an Operating Engineer. He could run any heavy equipment, but was especially talented with the bulldozer. He belonged to Local 17 of the International Union of Operating Engineers and was a Lifetime member. In later years he devoted his time to his friends and family, always offering a helping hand. He loved his family immensely, especially his grandchildren - Tommie, Stephanie, Alex, Darrren and Liam. His passion was hunting, he was exceptional at it and had many awards and records. Bobby Ann Dennison, 78, of Batavia NY passed away peacefully with her daughters Marie and Colleen by her side; she was surrounded by her loving family until the very end. Bobby Ann was born on September 27^th, 1944 to her late parents Lena Marie (Guyer) and Pearly Arthur Branscomb in Keene, NH. 

In 1962 Bobby Ann met Benjamin Gove Evans and they married on November 11^th, 1963 and had three beautiful children, Marie, Carol and Benjamin Evans. 

Bobby Anne was extremely proud of her family and loved them all dearly. She never went a day without talking to them. She loved every one of her many grandkids and made sure they all knew it. That love never dulled no matter how much time went on and when her grandkids had children of their own she loved each of her great grandchildren just as much. Bobby Ann was a godly, kind hearted, loving, and honest woman who left her mark and wisdom behind for her family to carry with them. She will be missed beyond measure and will never be forgotten. 

She leaves behind her brother; Richard Branscomb; her three children Marie Frye, Benjamin Evans and his wife Colleen who was a daughter to her and Carol Pyatt; her grandchildren Lena and Zachary Evans, Benjamin and Joey Evans, Kirk Frye, Robert and Amber Pyatt, Michael Pyatt, Matthew and Justin Pyatt, Johnathan Davis, Christopher Ellis and Cody Jurentkuff as well as many dearly loved great grandchildren.

LeRoy ~ Michael D. Loftus, age 73, formerly of Buffalo and Chili, passed away at home on Monday, August 14, 2023 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

     He was born in Batavia, NY on February 14, 1950, a son of the late William J. and Ruth Loftus.

     Mike was a longtime employee of DePaul, but enjoyed retirement and spending time with family in the last years of his life.

     He was a devoted father and is survived by his son, William E. (Melissa) Loftus of Fairport; brothers, John, Richard (Barb), Peter (Tami); sisters, Janet (John) Palenski and Katie (Bob) Steffenilla, as well as many nieces, nephews and caring friends.

Thomas (Tom) Powers passed peacefully at his home in Batavia on July 14, 2023.  Born in Warsaw, NY on October 6, 1952, Thomas was a member of St Mary’s Parish in Pavilion, NY for many years.  Thomas was predeceased by his beloved parents, Charlie and Millie Powers, and brother, Robert Powers.   

Thomas graduated from Pavilion Central School and from Erie County Community College’s food service management program.  Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War.  After discharge, he worked for Trojan Industries for eight years and later for the VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Batavia in the Nutrition and Food Service department.  After 30 years of dedicated service, for which he received numerous awards, Thomas retired from the VAMC, but not before he had prepared thousands of nutritious meals and delivered them with a smile and a healthy dash of his signature humor. He was also a member of the American Legion in LeRoy for many years. 

Thomas was a life-long fan of the San Francisco Giants and thoroughly enjoyed supporting the Batavia Muckdogs, most recently from his season’s seat directly behind home plate, where he often provided encouragement to aspiring young ball players. 

He is survived by brothers Donald of Newtown, PA and John of Amherst, NH.  He is also survived by his beloved sisters-in-law, Marji, Judy, and Susan, nephews Michael, Christopher, Andrew, Patrick, Gary, and Trevor, nieces Colleen, Katie and Meg, and grandnephews and nieces Jackson, Nathan, Aiden, Jack, Matthew, Charlie, Sean, Elizabeth, Madelyn, Annika, Helena and Satya.   

There will be no prior calling hours.  A Memorial Mass will be held at St Mary’s Parish, Pavilion, NY at 10am on Saturday, September 16, 2023 followed by a graveside and military service at St Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception at the Church Hall immediately after the graveside service.

On August 10, 2023 Butch Herdegen flew to Heaven to be with the angels. Butch loved his family and his lake home on Horseshoe Lake.

Butch will be greatly missed by Janet, his wife for 61 years; his children, Butch (Jaime) of Ponce Inlet, Fla., Mike of Orlando, Fla., Maria of Orlando, Fla., Janna Bernard of Cocoa Beach, Fla. and Janet (Jim) Suggs of Winter Park, Fla.; his nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his sister, Roberta Barlow of South Carolina.

Butch is predeceased by his parents Ken and Marjorie and brother, Rodney.

Mary (Priolo) Severino, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her, age 92, now rests in peace with our Lord. Born February 20th, 1931, Mary lived a full beautiful life on the south side of Batavia. Beloved daughter of Peter and Maria Priolo, she is  predeceased by her sister Santa, brother Paulo, brother John Priolo, daughter Teresa (John) George and son Peter Severino. She is survived by her siblings Elaine Frieday and Santina Volino, her loving husband of 70 years Nicolo Severino and children Joseph (Sheri) Severino, Christine (Randy) Bow, Rosemary (Norm) Giess, Maria (Darin) Waite, Nicholas (Robin) Severino, Rafaline (Greg) Shilvock, and Jerry (Dorine) Severino.  Her family legacy includes 18 grandchildren and soon to be 10 great grandchildren. Mary’s strong Sicilian heritage and faith guided her life, helping her parents run their family-owned grocery mart on the south side of Batavia.  Her strong value placed on family could be seen by the countless Sunday afternoon family dinners of pasta with homemade sauce and meatballs.  She was especially known for her rice balls, honey balls and pizzelle made for holidays.  Mary enjoyed the company of all her kids and their families, and rejoiced at the arrival of each grandchild and great grandchild that she was able to hold in her arms.  Mary enjoyed her days faithfully watching her soaps or spending a day out shopping.  She never forgot any family member's birthday accompanied with a card and a gift bag filled with our favorite comforts.  Mary held a strong sense of faith as a long standing member of St. Anthony’s Church.  She was an avid reader and loved to read about and hear stories about angels.  Now heaven has been gifted a new Angel.  A mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Batavia on Thursday August 17th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice, Crossroads House, or St. Judes Childrens Hospital. James F. Smith, 74, of Batavia, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

Jim was born January 30, 1949, in Peoria, Illinois, a son of the late Harold and Marian (Hammer) Smith.

Jim was a 1966 graduate of Notre Dame High School and a 1967 graduate of Simmons Institute of Funeral Service.  He began his professional career at the former C.W. Bohm Mortuary and then at H.E. Turner where he retired from in 2012.  During his 40 year career, he opened the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home in Bergen and purchased the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home in Batavia and the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home in Oakfield.

He was a member of Resurrection Parish where he was a lector and was chairman of the church Lawn Fete.  Jim was also a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Msgr. Kirby Council Knights of Columbus.  An active member of the Batavia Rotary Club, he served on the board of directors, was a past president and Paul Harris Fellow. He was active in the concession stand at Dwyer Stadium in the 1980’s with the Batavia Rotary Club.  Jim served with the Army National Guard from 1969-1975. He was a member of the Batavia Area Jaycees and Stafford Country Club, where he served on the Board of Governors and was a past president. He chaired the Batavia Pageant of Bands and was instrumental in the formation of the Hospice Family Care in Genesee County.

Jim was a fan of the Buffalo Sabres, New York Yankees, and the Buffalo Bills, having attended Superbowl XXVI in Minneapolis.  He enjoyed traveling, golfing, meeting his friends for coffee and attending his grandchildren’s sporting and musical events.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary (Calarco) Smith of Batavia; children, Jason (Lori) Smith of Batavia, Justin (Elizabeth) Calarco-Smith of Elba, Joshua (Kristin) Smith of Batavia and Jenna (Mark) Alexander of Oakfield; grandchildren, Megan Smith, Matthew Smith, Madeline Smith, Noah Calarco-Smith, Nicolas Calarco-Smith, Lucia Calarco-Smith, Caleb Smith, Brendan Smith and Gabby Smith; his sister, Georg Ann (late Thomas) Feldman of South Carolina; brothers-in-law, Anthony (late Judy) Calarco of Batavia and Nicholas (late Marcia) Calarco of Oakfield and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Frank J. Calarco, Jr. and sister-in-law, Victoria Moscicki.

Byron - Jimmy Lyman Stanton, 73 of Warsaw, formerly of Byron, passed away on Tuesday, (August 1, 2023) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Mr. Stanton was born May 12, 1950 in Batavia, a son of the late Wallace and Rheta (Shultz) Stanton.

Jimmy served his country honorably with the Army and was a member of the Sackett Merrill White Post American Legion in Bergen. He enjoyed spending time with the people in his community in Warsaw. Mr. Stanton retired from Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester and volunteered for 4769 hours at the Batavia VA Medical Center.

Surviving are his brother, Jack (Yvonne) Stanton of Batavia; sisters, June (James) Fodge of Avoca, Cindy (Bill) Skelton of Chiefland, Florida, and Kelly (Dana) Hilderbrant of LeRoy; treasured aunt, Bev (late Dean) Barnard of Byron. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

Along with his parents, Jimmy is reunited in death with his sister, Sandra Stanton.

There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held in Western New York National Cemetery in Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Tarpon Springs, FL ~ Debra Schuyler, formerly of LeRoy, NY, died on August 4, 2023 in a Tampa, Florida hospital following a long battle with Cancer. She was 68 years old. 
     A lifelong learner, Deb was born Debra Jane Marble to parents, Larry and Barb Marble, while Larry was serving in the Air Force at Travis Air Force Base, California. 
     Graduating from Caledonia-Mumford Central High School, class of ‘73, she excelled in her academic studies and was part of the cheerleading squad, volleyball team and marching band, to name a few activities. She also graduated from Genesee Community College, Geneseo and Brockport State Universities. 

  It was at a part-time waitressing job at a New York State Thruway rest stop in LeRoy where she met her future husband, David Schuyler, who was working as a cook. Though from competing high schools, (David hailed from LeRoy Central), they forged a bond that lasted over 50 years!
     Deb was an enthusiastic and well-loved teacher at Holy Family School before moving to the Wolcott Street School in LeRoy, where she taught First grade for over 25 years. It was there she enriched young lives and encouraged the love of reading in her students. She also supported LeRoy’s older students by directing several of the school’s much-enjoyed musicals. It was important to her to provide the experience participating in a polished performance on every level. 
     A valued and dedicated member of Mumford First Baptist Church, Debra shared her gift of music by serving in roles of junior choir director, organist and adult choir director through the years. One of her greatest accomplishments (she was known to have said), was to convince her dad, Larry, to join the choir. Then, she was able to have her whole family together!
     Upon retirement, Deb and David settled in the Tarpon Springs, Florida community called Stonehedge. Deb could take in nearby ocean beach views, continue her passion for gardening, compile genealogy research, entertain out-of-town guests and enjoy the new friends who became family in their new home. 
     Debbie is survived by her devoted husband, David. They were blessed to have over 50 years together as a couple. They were proud to have raised two sons; Kyle (Liza) of Colorado and Blair, now based in Dallas, Texas. They welcomed daughter-in-law Liza in 2017. Deb relished supporting her boys, whether cheering them on from the stands as they played baseball, marched the field in bands or performed on a stage. Both became excellent musicians. She and David celebrate the fine men they have grown to be. 
     Deb is also survived by her sister, Sheryl (Ed) Jones of North Carolina and her brother, Scott Marble of Mumford, NY. 
     Family and friends may call on Tuesday, August 15 from 4 ~ 7 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd., LeRoy.  A service to celebrate Deb’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 16, at 11:00 AM at the Mumford First Baptist Church, 5 Dakin Street, Mumford, NY. Interment to follow in Mumford Rural Cemetery.
     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mumford First Baptist Church in Deb’s memory, or you may consider purchasing a children’s book, dedicating it to Debbie and donating your chosen book to an elementary school library in your community.
