Harry A. Hoy Jr.

Harry A Hoy Jr., 90, of Batavia passed away on July 20, 2016 at the NYS Veterans Home at Batavia. Harry was born in Buffalo on September 23, 1925. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 65yrs Lucille (Spoth) Hoy.

Harry served in the Air Force during WWII. He enjoyed family, church, playing the harmonica, gardening, hunting, fishing and volunteering doing the prison ministry at Attica Prison.                

He was the devoted father of Harry Hoy III, David (Diana) Hoy, Susan (Michael) Daugherty, Daniel Hoy, Paul (Lynn) Hoy, Claire (Philip) Reiner, Michelle (Gary) Midkiff, Peter (Susan) Hoy, Elaine Hoy; Dear brother of late Marcia(Don)Lindsey, James(Sherry) Hoy, Judy Hoy, Annette (late Louis) Miller, Karen Balduf; in laws Robert Spoth, Al (Jean Turton) Lou B. Spoth; blessed with 23 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Ethel L. Yuhas

Batavia - Ethel L. Yuhas, 93, of Batavia, a Director Of Reading And Compensatory Programs and Teacher for 34 years at Grand Island School District prior to her retirement in 1979, died Thursday, June 30, 2016 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility, in LeRoy.

Mrs. Yuhas was born December 12, 1922 in South Alabama, NY, a daughter of the late James and Freda (Lortz) Woof.

She was a 30 year member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she served as a Deacon, Clerk and Director of Christian Education, was a volunteer with Literacy Volunteer of Genesee County for 20 years where tutored immigrants who wanted to become American citizens.

Her husband, William L. Yuhas, died December 28, 2002.  

Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 

She was the sister of the late Howard W. Woof, Glenn Woof, James Goldwin Woof, Edna Woof, Ruby Woof, Mary Davis, Mabel Hottois, Margaret Hover and Florence D’Angelo.  

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Batavia.  Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 190 Oak St., Batavia, NY 14020.  Mrs. Yuhas will be laid to rest next to her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.  Arrangements were completed by H.E. Scott B. Humel

East Pembroke -- Scott B. Humel, 51, of East Pembroke, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (July 26, 2016).
 
Scott was born August 8, 1964, to Norman and MaryLou (Clark) Humel.
 
Scott was a treasure of a man. His faith was an inspiration. His work ethic was stellar. His talents were endless. His sense of humor was infectious. He was brave and courageous and his love for his family was without limits.
 
Along with his parents, Scott is survived by: his loving wife of 30 years, Patricia “Penny” (Lipinski) Humel; His beloved children -- Scott Brian, Amanda Lynne, Mathew Paul and Mark David; His brothers; Norman (Patty) Humel and Jeffrey (Suzanne) Humel; and his sister, Lori (Alan) Carpenter.
 
A service will be held at East Shelby Community Bible Church on Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m.

Kathleen B. (Schiavi) Boyce

Kathleen B. (Schiavi) Boyce passed away suddenly on July 20, 2016 in Lakeland, FL.  She was born on March 30, 1952 in Batavia, NY, the daughter of the late Frank L. Schiavi, Jr. and Agnes M. (Coffey) Schiavi.

Kathleen adored her cats, who were just like her, as well as her husband and family.  She loved to read the Bible daily and was a very spiritual person.  She would always go out of her way to help others, even if it was just a smile to brighten their day.

She was predeceased by her sister, Felecia M. Schiavi-Smith in 2002; her brother, Stephen M. Schiavi in 2006; and her brother-in-law, Kyle A. Couchman in 2016.

Surviving are her husband, Richard L. Boyce of Lakeland, FL; brothers, Frank L. Schiavi, III of Batavia and Michael J. Schiavi of Perry; sisters Cheryl A. (Allen) Gillett of Cohocton; Frances L. Schiavi of Benson, AZ; Margaret R. Thomas of Niagara Falls; and Theresa B. Lee of Batavia; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her beloved cat, Hercules.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Northgate Free Methodist Church, 350 Bank Street, Batavia, NY.

Jonathan J. Connolly

Jonathan J. Connolly, 38, of Batavia passed away on Sunday July 17, 2016. He was born May 5, 1978 in Batavia, NY to Stephen H. Connolly of Batavia and Ann Thomas.

Mr. Connolly was an employee of Chapin International, Inc in Batavia. He was an avid fisherman.  He had a love for music, enjoyed playing the guitar and trumpet.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica Eastridge of Batavia; sons Logan and Orin McLain of Batavia; daughter Emma Eastridge of Batavia; brothers Jeffrey (Danielle) Connolly of FL; Michael (Natalie) Connolly of Buffalo; niece Penelope Connolly of Buffalo; Father and Mother-in-Law Ralph and Deborah Eastridge of South Carolina.

Dale E. Lowe

Batavia - Dale E. Lowe, 58, of Batavia, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at his home, in Batavia.

Mr. Lowe was born July 10, 1958 in Batavia, a son of the late Edwin and Lynda L. (Aubert) Lowe.

Survivors include his sister, Cheryl Lowe; his brother, Donald Lowe; a nephew, Jared Pietrzykowski and a niece, Kaitlyn Pietrzykowski, all of Batavia. 

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 20 North Pointe, Suite #130, Amherst, NY 14228.

John A. Angevine

John A. Angevine, 86, of Brockport, formally of West Palm Beach passed away peacefully on Monday July 25, 2016 at Unity Hospital in Rochester. He was born on June 6, 1930 in Lockport, NY.  He is predeceased by his wife Mildred Norton-Angevine.

Mr. Angevine was a long time Machinist for General Motors working at Harrison Radiator in Lockport. He was a 56 year member of the Masons, spent 17 years in the Army National Guard and was an NRA member as well as a fire arms instructor. John belonged to the Bykota Lodge #333 in Florida where he spent many years living in West Palm Beach. He was a supporter of the Shriners Children’s Hospital as well. He loved raising horses, traveling especially to Las Vegas, but above all else loved being with his family.

He is survived by his step children; Robert Norton of Batavia and Linda Knox of Batavia; step grandchildren Shane Borton, Garth (Anna) Knox and Krista Norton, along with one great grandson Devon Foglesong.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Nicholas L. Kabala

LeRoy ~ Nicholas L. Kabala, 63, passed peacefully at home on Monday, July 25 after a 9 month battle with cancer.

     Nick was born on August 20, 1952 and is the son of the late Carl and Anne Kabala of Greece, NY.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Barb (Krenzer); his children, Sandy (Sean) Whiting and Brian Kabala; granddaughter, Jane Whiting; sister, Betty (Doug) Thomas; mother-in-law, Fran (Ianita) Krenzer; sister-in-law, Karen (John) White; brother-in-law, Dutch (Rhonda) Krenzer; and many nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann (Bob) Sweetser and father-in-law, Ray (Dutch) Krenzer.

     Nick retired from General Motors after 36 years of service and worked at IMCO in quality assurance for 8 years until his diagnosis. He had a love of music, baseball (anything Yankees), and the outdoors. Nick  loved his country and previously served in the National Guard.  He was a former Captain of the LeRoy Fire Department and a member of the Excelsior Hook and Ladder Company.  He also spent numerous summers coaching Girls’ Softball, something he loved to do. Family was always his number one priority, which was evident in the way he showed his love every day.

     Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 29th from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19).  A funeral mass celebrating Nick’s life will be held on Saturday, July 30th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.

Nancy L. Plath

Batavia - Nancy L. Plath, 72, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday (July 23, 2016) at her home in Batavia.

Nancy was born December 21, 1943 in Perry, a daughter of the late Harold Raymond and Mary Magdalene (McCarty) Decker.

A longtime and faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Batavia, Nancy's family was very important to her.  She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's events and spending time with her friends.  Nancy liked going to garage sales, reading, crafts and serving others.  She was a kitchen worker at the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia.

Survivors include her children, Christopher D. (Joann) Plath, Jeffrey Plath and Stacy (Chris) Mullen, all of Batavia; her grandchildren, Christopher H. (Melissa) Plath, David (Shannon) Plath, Daniel Plath, Tara Lynn Plath, Joseph William Plath, Aaron Jeffrey Plath, Kennedy Mullen, Camryn Mullen, Jadyn Mullen and Masyn Mullen, all of Batavia; her great-grandchildren, Ryan Plath, Isaiah Plath, Julia Plath, Aubree Plath and Sophia Plath; one brother, Harold Decker of Columbia, SC; one sister, Diane Amburgey of Houston, TX and several nieces and nephews.

Nancy is the wife of the late David W. Plath and sister of the late Richard Amburgey, Golden Amburgey, Chuck Amburgey, Delphine Amburgey and Julia Amburgey.  

Calling hours are Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 238 Vine Street, Batavia.  Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday also at Grace Baptist Church.  Nancy will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery, Batavia.  Memorials may be made to the family for distribution to various charities.

Jeffrey L. Leith

Jeffrey L. Leith, 61 of Columbia, Missouri lost his battle to cancer on Friday, July 8, 2016.  Jeff was born July 26, 1954 to the late Grove & Arlene Leith.  He is survived by his wife, Lisa of Columbia, MO, siblings, Naomi Smith of Lexington, VA, Jo York of Batavia, NY, Ardean (Meeli) Leith of Averill Park, NY and Duane (Reva) of Dunn, NC, many nieces and nephews.  Jeff is preceded in death by his sister, Sandra McGowan and brother, Bruce Leith.

Jeff graduated from Wyoming Central in 1972 and ran the family farm, Leith Acres until he moved to Missouri in 1983 where he worked for Boone Realty and had his own maintenance business for rental properties.   He loved growing roses and his coi ponds. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 2-4 PM at the Wyoming Fire Hall, Maple Street, Wyoming, New York.  

Suzanne LeVine

Suzanne LeVine, 61 of Batavia passed away peacefully on Friday July 22, 2016 at her home. She was born February 16, 1955 in Wauseon, OH to Edward J. Sutherland of Batavia and the late Constance (Zogaib) Sutherland.  Suzanne is preceded in death by her husband John C. LeVine in 1998; brother-in-law Rich Sparaco.

Mrs. LeVine was a longtime teacher and was currently teaching at St. Christopher’s in Tonawanda. She was generous to a fault, did anything for anyone, and was hysterically funny. Suzanne loved to sing, was dedicated to teaching, her family, and left a permanent impression on everyone. She will be remembered forever as Devine LeVine. Suzanne was a sweet, generous, loving woman who touched so many lives. She will be missed by so many.  

She is survived by her beloved sisters Elaine Sutherland of Batavia; Colleen (Joseph) Head of Buffalo; Ann Sutherland of Batavia; Maria Sparaco of Milton, NY; niece Kaitlin (Daniel) O’Keefe, nephews Richie and John Sparaco.

Isabelle Catherine Rada

  Isabelle Catherine Rada, 95, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Thursday July 21, 2016 at Genesee County Nursing Home.  She was born February 8, 1921 in Alabama, NY to the late Mathias (Helen Meyer) Tretter.  Mrs. Rada is preceded in death by her husband Raymond J. Rada; son Roger Rada; brother Paul Tretter; sisters Joan Moynihan, Mary Tretter, Teresa Dehm, Sister Theresa Florence Tretter, daughter-in-law Onlee Rada.

Mrs. Rada was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish, and the Legion of Mary. She worked at the NYS School for the Blind in Batavia for 25 years. Most of all she was a devoted and loving mother to her five children. Family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her beloved children Patricia (Donald) Hayles of AZ; Richard (Cindy) Rada; Helen (Mark) Weibel of Batavia; Donald (Kristy) Rada of Byron; brother Carl Tretter of Batavia; daughter-in-law Jolynne Rada of Batavia; brothers-in-law Kenneth Dehm and Donald Moynihan of Batavia; 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Ruth W. Lange

Ruth W. Lange, 89, of Attica, died peacefully on July 20, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 30, 1926, in Greigsville, NY, to the late Chauncey and Evelyn Barrett Wellman. Mrs. Lange is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Kilian Lange, who died May 24, 1996; brother, Donald Wellman; along with a sister- and brother-in-law, Ruth and Reg Roys.

A member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Attica, she was first employed as a hairdresser and went on to work at GTE Sylvania, retiring after 28 years of service.

She is survived by a son, David (Marilyn) Lange; daughter, Marcia (Robert) Perry; three granddaughters, Karen (Adam) LaDuke; Suzanne (Greg) Scholand; and Danielle Perry; three great- granddaughters, Naomi, Sally, and Margo LaDuke; a sister-in-law, Carol Wellman; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hans J. Boxler Sr.

Hans J. Boxler, Sr., of Varysburg passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (July 18, 2016) at the age of 81. He was born May 15, 1935, in Buffalo, a son of the late Joseph and Lea (Jäeggi) Boxler. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his son John Boxler; daughter-in-law Debra Boxler and sisters Gretchen Praller and Mary Boxler.

Hans was a longtime member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish in Varysburg, NYS Farm Bureau, and the Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce. Hans was a life-long dairy farmer and visionary whose love of animals encouraged him to create Hidden Valley Animal Adventure where he shared his love for God’s animals with others. Hans had many interests and passions. He was active in tractor pulling for over 45 years belonging to the National Tractor Pullers Association, Empire State Pullers, Pro Pulling League, and NYS Tractor Pullers Association. Other interests included traveling, dancing, collecting antique farm equipment, going to auctions, working with his Belgian horses, and visiting farms.

He was well respected by the community and supported the community by organizing the annual Old Fashioned Harvest Days to benefit multiple charities including the Varysburg Fire Department, Sheldon Baseball and St. Vincent’s Catholic School.

He was a man of great generosity and faith, putting God above his greatest love…FAMILY.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 59 years Rose Boxler; Children Hans Boxler Jr., Kathleen (Richard) Luce, Barbara (D. Jeffrey) Dominesey, David (Ella) Boxler, Thomas (Lisa) Boxler, Michael Boxler all of Varysburg, Susan (Jeffrey) Cusmano of Attica and Lori (Christin) Domes of Attica; grandchildren Melissa (Anthony), Melinda, Brittany (John), Christina, Lisa (Eric), Andrew, Ashley (Michael), Jesse, Chelsey, Lindsey, Augustus, Nicholas, Tyler, Jacob, Tasha (James), Nichole, Katlyn, Warren (Rebecca), Laken (Joseph), Bradford, Gregory, Dylan, Samuel, Andrew, Ellie, Jack, Cash, Gage, Eden and Ivy; great grandchildren Lexi, Levi, Bailey, Grant, Talon and Sicilia along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Kathy J. Johnson

LeRoy - Kathy J. Johnson, 64, of LeRoy, passed away at her home in LeRoy on Monday, July 18, 2016.

Mrs. Johnson was born December 19, 1951 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Joseph and Marilyn Bresslin Frederick.

Her husband, Kenneth "Smokey" J.  Johnson, Jr., passed away on May 4, 1997.

She is survived by her children, Amber (Josh) Hutchings of Batavia, Ed Letts, Jr. of LeRoy and Trisha Letts of Florida; three grandchildren, Alec Johnson, Nikolai and Madison Hutchings; two sisters, Michelle Frederick-Freeman of Wyoming and Jill Frederick of Rochester; brother-in-law, Edward (Cathi) Johnson of Salem, Oregon, three sisters-in-law, Donna (Wally) Douglas of Sinclairville, Sandra (Tommy) Dees of Lakeland, Florida and Linda (Doug) Hagen of Batavia; and several nieces and nephews.
