Sue White, 87, formerly of Attica, passed away on February 4, 2020 in Batavia. She was born in Lockport, NY on July 21, 1932 to the late Charles and the late Leantine (Barnes) Webster.

Sue is survived by her son, Michael (Robin) White; grandson Michael (Jessica) White; and Granddaughters Nicole and Tiffany and great grandchildren, Michael, Hannah, and Harper White.

JANET M. GRASSO ~ Age 78, of Batavia, died Friday afternoon February 7, 2020 at Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport - SNF. Janet was born to the late Andrew and Evelyn Corcoran on March 25, 1941 in Batavia. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, James and Burton Corcoran, Mary Talbot and Linda Vallese.

Janet worked for Griffith Energy for many years and was a member of Ascension Parish, the former St. Anthony’s. She loved to take shopping trips with her sisters and travel with her husband as well as family. Janet most enjoyed her time spent with family especially her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her husband of 39 years, Lewis Grasso of Batavia; children, Alan (Jennifer) Smith of Pittsford, Brian (Brenda) Smith of Webster, Jacqueline M. Grasso of Rochester, Michael J. (Nancy) Grasso of Scottsville, Jeffery A. Grasso of Rochester, Wendy S. (Brian) Winslow of Scottsville; brother, Edward (Beverly) Corcoran of Batavia; grandchildren, Brittany LaBore, Gina Grasso, Mallory Winslow, Jared Grasso, David Smith, Abigail Winslow, Sarah Smith & Nicole Grasso; great-granddaughter, Emelia along with several nieces and nephews.

Batavia - LaVerne E. "Turk" Francis, age 87, of Batavia, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020.

Turk was born May 8, 1932, in Cuba, son of the late Norman Francis, Sr. and the late Marjorie Banker Francis.

A member of the Genesee Country Church, Turk faithfully served as a greeter of the church and as head usher for over 30 years. He enjoyed traveling with Nancy, was proud of his antique tractor collection and loved to wash and detail his car. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Manhardt Francis. The two were married August 23, 1952. Also surviving are his daughter, Lynda (Daniel) Lyons of Oakfield; three grandchildren, Jessica (late Derrick) Baity of New York City, Colleen (Paul) Kowtun of North Tonawanda and Kyle Lyons of Oakfield; three great-grandchildren, Elijiah Jones, Mason Baity and Parker Kowtun; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Francis of South Carolina, Irene Francis of Texas and Barb (late Dave) Conn of East Bethany along with several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Sharon L. Francis who passed away on August 31, 2009 and his brothers, Herbert Francis, Norman Francis, Jr., Walter Francis and Melvin Francis.

Joyce E. (Skeet) Groth, 82, of Corfu, New York passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020. She was born on December 7, 1937 to the late Harold and Viola (Hansen) Skeet. She was the sister of the late Kermit Skeet.
Joyce was a member of the Corfu High School Class of 1955 and the East Pembroke Cornerstone Church.  She was a bank teller at M&T Bank in Corfu for 18 years before retiring.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, and spending her winters in Bradenton, FL where she loved to play Mahjong and visiting with friends.  Joyce also enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her loving husband Dennis Groth whom she married on June 7, 1958, two children, Gregory Groth and Joan (Matthew) Worth.  A sister Marilyn (Charles) Percey.  Six grandchildren, Meghan Groth, Benjamin Groth, Adam (Rebecca) Worth, Kathryn Worth, Bailey Groth, Camryn Groth, and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Natalie Worth, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 12 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the C. B.   Judy L. Russell, 68 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2020 surrounded by her family at Gateway Home in Attica. She was born in Batavia on April 22, 1951 to Lee Klawer of Batavia and the late Ruth (Clute) Klawer.    

Mrs. Russell, worked as a hair stylist for over 30 years and was co-owner of Russell Alarm in Batavia. She is a longtime member of Cornerstone Church in East Pembroke where she was very involved and volunteered in many of the church activities. Judy loved gardening, doing puzzles, baking, camping, vacations to Myrtle Beach and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.     

Judy is survived by her beloved husband James R. Russell of Batavia; children Amy Russell of Batavia; Kelly (Alan) Heizmann of Rochester; Brian Russell of Batavia; brother Randy (Christine) Klawer of East Pembroke; grandchildren Abigail Russell, Benjamin Heizmann, Alyssa Salamone, Brooke Heizmann along with many nieces and nephews.

Niagara Falls - Bruce Wayne Evans, "Wink", 64, of Niagara Falls, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the Buffalo VA Medical Center.

Bruce was born December 2, 1955, in East Chicago, IN, a son of the late Odie and Constance Evans, Jr.

Bruce was a veteran serving with the United States Army, a Buffalo Bills fan and loved spending time with his family and friends and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Ella (Sumeriski) Evans of Batavia; step-children, Shawn Drennen of Batavia, Philip Rumble of Daytona, FL, Virginia Martinez of Batavia, Cody Proctor of Shortsville and Katara Ames of Batavia; brothers, Derrick (Nina) Evans of Niagara Falls and Sean Evans of Florida; sisters, Debra Evans of Niagara Falls, Kimberly Evans Dixon of Niagara Falls, JoAnne White of Indiana, Donna Evans Patikas of East Chicago, IN, Michelle Evans of Gary, IN and Moshfilay (James) Anderson of Indianapolis, IN, 16 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bruce is predeceased by his brother, Michael Evans and a step-daughter, Reba Taylor.

CARL F. TOMASZEWSKI ~ Age 77, of Batavia, NY died peacefully Tuesday February 4, 2020 at home with family and dear friends with him. He was born in Batavia, November 2, 1942 to the late Maximillian and Rose (Siewierski) Tomaszewski, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Jean Ross and Ronald Tomaszewski.

Carl grew up in a modest, strict home with his father who had emigrated from Poland, mother from Buffalo and the youngest of three children. He attended grade school in the basement of Sacred Heart Church, attended vocational school and graduated from Batavia High School. His catholic upbringing was the center of his life growing up on the South side of Batavia and although in contrast to what are children have today, he always stated, “My parents loved me, and I always had what was needed.”

He was a strong, determined hard working man that always provided for his family, Carl worked at the former Trojan Industries for about 20 years prior to its closing and moved on to the Eastman Kodak Co. where he retired in 2002 all along working odd jobs to make his families lives better. He was an intelligent man who learned from reading and his hands-on experiences, there was nothing he could not create or fix. Carl was a perfectionist who never settled for anything less and appreciated the same from others all while teaching his children and grandchildren the same.

In raising his children Carl was active in their lives, from church, school and sports. He was a youth soccer coach, Batavia Youth Football Coach, President of the St. Joseph’s Home School Association and a tireless volunteer at the church lawn fetes of the former Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Churches for many, many years.

When his children had grown and started their own lives, he grew quieter, more attached to home and began to travel and enjoy life with his dear Patty. Together they enjoyed vacations, overnight trips, dinners and the contentedness of just being together. Some 20 years ago as his health began to decline, they moved in with his son and daughter-in-law and supported the opening of the Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel and Dibble Family & Event Center. His enjoyment of cooking had him hard at work at Dibbles for the last 10 years, even when his failing body said, no, his heart brought him in.

Dad, your wish to spend your final days at home was granted on Christmas Eve and from there you spent the next 42 days finally letting us care for you and show you the love you had always shown us. Those days were a gift to us and your grandchildren because we saw you smile, and we told you how much we loved you. As you began to slip away Tuesday morning it was so peaceful, your final breath left so gently at 7:25p.m. as grandma and grandpa reached down from heaven and returned you to their care. Thank you, dad, we were blessed to have you and the many valuable lessons that you have left us with.   

Surviving is his beloved wife of 50 years, Patricia Ann (Tubiolo) Tomaszewski of Batavia, son, Michael S. (Valerie) Tomaszewski of Batavia and daughter, Melissa Ann (Jim Valente) Tomaszewski-Nichols of Buffalo, dearest Poppi to, Sydni Jo Nichols, Madisyn Michael Tomaszewski and C. Max Tomaszewski along with several cousins.

Batavia - Wayne C. Gantt, 85, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020, at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Gantt was born June 14, 1934, in Knox County, Ohio, son of the late A. Lloyd and Carrie Day Gantt.

A graduate of Centerburg High School in Centerburg, Ohio Wayne served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 as an electronics specialist.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty L. White Gantt of Batavia; two daughters, Penny (Daniel) Mudrzynski and Shirley (Gregory) Gubb; five grandchildren; John (Carrie) Mudrzynski, Brad (Melissa) Mudrzynski, Bryan (Carol) Gubb, Tyler Gubb and Sarah (Sam) Brudz; nine great-grandchildren; Daniel, Joseph, Nathan and Derek Mudrzynski, Ethan, Carter and Addyson Gubb and Palmer and Emmy Brudz; his brother, Vaughn (Georgena) Gantt along with several nieces and nephews.

Wayne is predeceased by his four brothers and one sister.

There will be no visitation. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. He will be laid to rest in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba. Vernon E. Jett, age 60, of Perry, NY passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born in Brockport, NY on April 1, 1959 a son to the late Harvey E. and Margaret “Peg” (Hughes) Jett. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a sister: Connie Mulcahy and brothers: Bob and David Jett.

Vernon was a graduate of Wyoming Central School. He was a licensed hairdresser, and worked for Presto Lite in Arcade where he was a CNC machine operator. He enjoyed fishing, being outside doing yard work and gardening or just a simple ride with family to get an ice cream cone. He was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

He is survived by his wife: Audra M. (Chase) Jett whom he married on June 26, 1993, 2 daughters: Mikhayla and Maggie Jett of Perry, 2 sisters: Karen Evans and Lori (Michael Durfee) Jett both of Castile, 3 brothers: Harvey Jett Jr. of Gainesville, Douglas Jett of Castile, Darrell (Anna) Jett of Houghton, mother-in-law: Mary (Thomas) Baehr of Akron, 2 brothers-in-law: Arthur Mulcahy of Perry, Robert (Danielle) Chase Jr. of Akron, along with many nieces and nephews.

ROCHESTER - George J. Capp, 86, of Rochester, passed away Sunday, (February 2, 2020), at his home in Rochester.

Mr. Capp was born March 22, 1933, in Batavia, a son of the late John and Mary (Lis) Czapeczka.

Mr. Capp served his country honorably with the Air Force where he was a mechanic.  Following his discharge, he worked for many years as a mechanic with the US Post Office in Rochester. George, or as he preferred to be called, Capp, was the longest running patron of the Strathallen Hotel in Rochester.  He was a talented gardener, an expert craftsman, and an excellent chef.  He will be remembered for his love of classical music, and his willingness to help most anyone who he thought needed it.  He was always at the ready to mentor or to aid in any way he possibly could.

He leaves behind close friends, Mark Potter and Josh Nichols both of Rochester, and James Toepper of Brockport.  Several other dear friends also survive.

Capp is preceded in death by his sister, Lee Capp.

BERGEN - Rev. Jack A. Logan, 93, of Bergen, passed away Monday, February 3, 2020, at his home in Bergen.

Rev. Logan was born on October 18, 1926, in St. Petersburg, Florida, a son of the late Jelks and Ann E. (Zuck) Logan.

Rev. Logan graduated from Harbor Creek High School, Roberts Wesleyan College and Asbury Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity Degree.   He was a pastor at the Bergen 1st Presbyterian Church in Bergen, New York and had served with the Free Methodist Church for 50 years.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving the USNAS Banana River, Fl.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Kathryn "Katie" (Greenawalt) Logan, whom he married on January 1, 1946; four children, Stephen (Donna) Logan of TN, Connie Logan of Conesus, Keith (Theresa) Logan of MI and Mark (Ruth) Logan of Churchville; 12 grandchildren: Jonathan (Candice) Logan; Jason Logan; Jamie (Wade) Humphries; Allison Nichols; Meredith (Stefan) Bauroth; Nichole (Lt. Col Matthew) Rapp; Melinda Jamis, Melissa Logan; DeWayne (Emily) Logan; Jordan Logan; Tyler (Rebecca) Logan and Elise (Shane) Fraser; 27 great-grandchildren;1 great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Herbert (late Sally) Logan of TX and Ronald (Donna) Logan of Ransomville.

He was a brother of the late Joyce Neithermer.

Byron - James G. Cudney, age 77, died on Feb. 3, 2020 at Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Nov. 3, 1942 in Batavia, first son of Glenn W. Cudney and Mildred J. Newcomb.   He was predeceased by his parents and his youngest brother, Gerald W. Cudney of Florida.

He is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Barbara A. (Chapman) Cudney whom he married on June 17, 1967.  One brother, Kenneth G. (Barbara J.) Cudney of Florida; a sister-in-law, Nancy Cudney of Florida, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jim was a Switch Technician at Rochester Telephone Co. for 34 years and and also at Adelphia Communications in Buffalo for 5 years.   He was a Life Member of Genesee County Fish and Game Prot. Association, a Life member of Telephone Pioneers and Local 1170 CWA.   He served from 1964 until 1966 as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam war.   His pastimes included hunting deer and fishing in Canada with his group of best buds.   In retirement he served his community as Councilman of Byron for 5 years and Chairman of the ZBA for 4 years.  He was involved with several committees in Byron.  He was a member of the Leroy Historical Society and enjoyed local history.

At his request there will be no calling hours.   A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring with burial in the North Byron Cemetery and a military honor guard.

Batavia - Amy L. Huntzinger (Netter), 62, of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 2, 2020.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Jamie R. Netter and her sister, Kathy Berra.

She is survived by her husband John Huntzinger, sons, Steven (Nicole) Huntzinger of Rome, New York and Robert (Melissa) Huntzinger of LeRoy New York; three grandchildren, Abraham and Grace Huntzinger and Josephine Huntzinger. She is also survived by her siblings, George (Cheryl) Netter, John (late Nadine) Netter, Sharon Kinney, Ginny Marble, Lorrie (Timothy) Storrs, Susan Ausman and as well as eleven nieces and nephews.

Amy graduated from Pembroke Central School and attended Genesee Community College. She volunteered at the Corfu Fire Department and was the first female firefighter in Genesee County. Additionally, she worked at Genesee Memorial Hospital for 17 years, beginning as a nurse's aide and subsequently becoming an EMT in the emergency room. She began working at H&R Block as a Tax Specialist and retired after 32 years. Amy enjoyed scrapbooking and spending time with her grandchildren. The kids were the loves of her life.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia.
