LeRoy ~ Donald A. "Rooster" McBurney, age 90, formerly of Cole Road, passed away early Saturday morning (Feb. 29, 2020) at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia.

    

 He was born July 25, 1929 in Batavia, a son of the late Ambrose and Catherine Mooney McBurney.

     Don will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, who was a proud Korean War veteran.  He enjoyed baseball, golfing, deer and rabbit hunting.  He also cherished the time he could spend with his buddies catching up on the news.

     He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Grace Gelsomino McBurney; his children, Nancy (Jerry) Roth, Joan McBurney and Patrick (Susan) McBurney; 2 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Graham, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Veronica Airth and Madonna Haley.

     Family and friends are invited to his Rite of Christian Burial to be held on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.

EUGENE E. BEZON ~ Age 80, of Elba, NY died peacefully Friday February 28, 2020 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born in Batavia, May 12, 1939 to the late Joseph A. and Stephania (Mickey) Bezon, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Richard Bezon, Monica Bezon-Rice, Joseph M. Bezon, Jr. and Douglas Bezon.

Eighty years, Gene had Elba in his heart, spending his entire life at his family Homestead on Oak Orchard Road where at an early age he started pulling weeds on the precious “Muck Lands.” He attended Elba Central School where he was a member of the FFA and played on the basketball and football teams.  Graduating in 1958 and remaining on the family homestead, Gene married his sweetheart, Susan Dickens in 1963, took to milking cows and thus began, Eugene Bezon Farms. His hard work and dedication to the farm and his family is evident as the farm continues to operate today under his motto of, “Work Done First.” Gene was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and was so very proud of his grandchildren and loved to attend their sporting events.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 56 years, Susan (Dickens) Bezon of Elba, sons, Kevin (Lynn) Bezon, Dennis Bezon and Steven (Candy) Bezon all of Elba; daughters, Karen (Michael) Cusmano of Oakfield and Debra (Todd) Reilly of Elba, dearest grandpa to, McKenzie, Kelsey, Tucker, Kaden, Kameron, Leah, Ashton, Logan, Sydney, Ty, Kelsey (Matthew) Smith and John; sisters-in-law, Edith Bezon of Byron and Joan Bezon of Florida along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gene’s family will be present from 4-8p.m. on Wednesday March 4, 2020 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers will be recited 9:15a.m. Thursday morning March 5 followed by his Mass of Christian Burial 10a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish (Elba Site) with Rev. LeRoy - Roger D. Smith, age 70, passed away unexpectedly at home January 17, 2020.

     He was born October 8, 1949, in Batavia, a son of the late Robert and Edith Bennetti Smith.

     Roger was a 1967 graduate of LeRoy Central School where he will be remembered for his athletic abilities, especially on the basketball court.   He was passionate about sports, both watching them and playing in several leagues through his life.  His most proud moments were watching his son and grandchildren play in various sports events through the years. 

     He is survived by his son, Travis (Kerri) Smith of Stafford, grandchildren, Jaidyn and Jagger; sisters, Roxanne (Gerry) Paganin of Avon and Renee (Michael) Miller of Pavilion, along with several other relatives.

     Services will be private at the convenience of his family.

Gasport – Mr. Loren E. Hall, age 80, of Gasport, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Niagara Hospice, surrounded by his family.

Loren was born May 27, 1939, in Batavia, son of the late Glenn and A. Fern McGiveron Hall.

He worked at Harrison Radiator in Lockport as a machine production operator. Loren was the proud owner of a 1980 El Camino that he entered in numerous area car shows. He enjoyed Friday night fish-fry’s and attending car shows.

He is survived by his wife; Judith Unger Hall whom he married on December 10, 1983; his daughters; Kathy (James) Crandall of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Susan (Hank) Richards of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; his step-daughter; Diane Barletta of Greece, New York; his step-son; Daniel Barletta of Greece, New York; six grandchildren; David (Nicole) Crandall of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jeremy Crandall of Chesapeake, Virginia, Krystie Beckwith, Matthew (Cynthia) Beckwith of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Vincent Edwards and Jackie Edwards, both of Greece, New York; five great-grandchildren; Abigail, Joseph and Aryana Crandall and Lilyanah and Dakotah Beckwith; his brother; Donald (Joan) Hall of Oakfield and nieces and nephews also survive.

  Gerald H. Graham, 91 of Perry, passed away peacefully at the NYS Veteran’s Home at Batavia on February 27, 2020. He was born January 16, 1929 in Perry to the late Robert J. (Eloise Goodwin Horton) Graham. He is preceded in death by brother Robert J. (Gladys) Graham, sister Erestine (George) Cox, son-in-law Jacques Schmit, parents-in-law Maynard (Mary) Ess, sisters & brothers-in-law Anna (Perry) Borsching, Jean (Victor) Pietrzykowski, Donald Ess, Raymond Ess, John Neff, nephews Darrel Borsching, Dennis Borsching and Victor Pietrzykowski.  

Gerald was a veteran of the US Air Force where he was a SSGT serving in France as a member of Air Police during the Korean Conflict. After his military service from 1950-1954 he worked in security for Eastman Kodak. He was a farmer and truck driver for Jones Chemicals in Caledonia. After retirement he drove truck for Emerling Farms, Perry and worked at the Tired Iron Tractor Museum in Cuylerville.

Gerald enjoyed antique cars and tractors. He also enjoyed tractor pulling, car shows and spending time in Florida. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a member of McKelton Post American Legion in Perry and the NRA.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Madeline (Ess) Graham of Perry; children Deborah Graham-Schmit of Warsaw; Mary (Bruce) Carney of Castile; Darlene (Sidney) Broughton of Silver Springs; Sandra (Brent Maines) Graham of Castile; Gerald H. (Sam) Graham of Perry; grandchildren Hans VanValkenburg, Stacey Jaggard, Amberley (Daryl) Robb, Carrie (Brian) Kehoe, Harvey William Jaggard IV, Melinda (Robert) Trowbridge; great-grandchildren Levi and Grayson Trowbridge, Alexander and Oliver Robb, Hollow Vail VanValkenburg, Merit Scott Kehoe, sisters-in-law Dorothy Neff of Warsaw; Janet Ellis of Warsaw; Cheryl (Jim VonGundon) Bryant of Perry; brother-in-law Edward (Lynda) Ess of Batavia; along with many nieces and nephews.

Margaret L. Ingersoll, 90 of Warsaw, passed away peacefully on Friday February 28, 2020 surrounded by her family at Brothers of Mercy in Clarence. She was born August 22, 1929 in Sheldon, to the late Edgar (Caroline Smithley) Heintz. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Niles C. Ingersoll; daughter Patricia (Tom) Zak, grandson Chad Lynch, brother Jack Zittel, sister Dorothy Vetter, daughter-in-law Virginia Ingersoll.

Margaret worked as a Telephone Operator at NY Tel, GTE Sylvania, sold real estate and as a Ward Clerk at the VA in Batavia. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, an amazing cook and lived life to the fullest. Mrs. Ingersoll loved the Lord, family reunions and her many friends. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and family was everything to her.

She is survived by her children Niles E. Ingersoll of Jefferson City, TN; Mark (Vicki) Ingersoll of Pawleys Island, SC; Scott (Roseann) Ingersoll of Wheaton, IL; Robert (Gerry) Alexander of Corfu; Jo Ann (Marshall) Lynch of Smyrna, TN; sister-in-law Madonna Zittel; brother-in-law Richard Vetter; 17 grandchildren along with many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

BATAVIA - Glenn R. Frier, 83, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, (February 26, 2020), at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mr. Frier was born November 29, 1936, in Ellenburg, a son of the late Ernest and Iva (Miller) Frier.

Glenn was a retiree of Lapp Insulator and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and woodworking.

He is the husband of the late Jessie E. (Meyers) Frier who passed away on April 5, 2015.

Survivors include his children, Kathleen (James) Grasby of LeRoy, Deborah (Douglas) Brown of Cowlesville, and Bradley Frier of Batavia; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Sidney Cree of Shelby.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Glenn is preceded in death by his siblings, Cloyce Frier, Herman Frier, Iola Cree, Victor Frier, and Kathleen Frier.

There will be no visitation.  Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Mr. Frier will be laid to rest with his wife in Grand View Cemetery. Renee’ M. (Strain) Morris, age 38 of Portageville, NY went to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 25, 2020 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the Town of Castile. She was born in Warsaw, NY on January, 8 1982 a daughter to Ronald B. and Charlene M. (Grover) Strain of Portageville. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Donald Strain.

Renee’ was a 2000 graduate of Keshequa Central High School. She was a honor student at Genesee Community College finishing up her last semester in their nursing program. A profession she was looking forward to helping people in need. She was currently working part time as a waitress at John-N-Sarah’s Restaurant in Perry. Renee’ was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Old Path’s Church in Perry. Her faith was a big part of her life. She was the proud mother of 4 beautiful daughters who she adored. She enjoyed spending time with her family, church family and extended friends.

She is survived by her daughters: Jaelyn, Jessah, Hope and Khloe, the father of her children: Jeremy “Bear” Morris of Perry, sisters: Rhonda (Kris) Gross of Mt. Morris, Danell (Jeff) Guesno of Perry, maternal grandparents: William (Carol) Grover of Portageville, paternal grandmother: Gladys Strain of Nunda, along with many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

A Celebration of Renee’s life will be held on Sunday March 8th at 3:00pm at the Old Paths Chapel 181 South Main St. in Perry followed by a time for fellowship at 4:30pm at the church gymnasium. Renee’ will be laid to rest in East Koy Cemetery in Portageville.

  James C. Suttell, 57, of Batavia passed away on Monday February 24, 2020. He was born on December 24, 1962 in Batavia to the late John A. and Stella (Hamera) Suttell. In addition to his parents, James is predeceased by a niece; Megan T. Suttell.

Jimmy was an over the road truck driver for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, motocross and loved NASCAR.

He is survived by 3 children; a brother John (Kathleen) Suttell of Oakfield; a niece Rachel Suttell.

Batavia - Michael A. McDonald, 63, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020, at his home.

Michael was born November 28, 1956, in Alexandria, VA, a son of the late William M. and Lorraine (Veringo) McDonald, Sr.

Michael retired with 35 years of service with the FBI Forensic Laboratory and proudly served six years with the United States Marines.  He was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish and the USMC League in Lockport.  Michael loved music, his guitars and his trusted companion, Gino.

Survivors include his wife of over 38 years, Valerie (Palone) McDonald of Batavia; a brother, William (Terry) McDonald, Jr. of Virginia; his father-in-law, Donald J. Palone of Oakfield; a brother-in-law, Dave (Debbie) Palone of Oakfield and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Along with his parents, Michael is predeceased by his mother-in-law, Josephine (Galline) Palone.

There are no prior calling hours.  Michael's Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish - St. Cecilia's Worship Site, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield.  Burial with military honors will be in St. Cecelia's Cemetery, Oakfield.

  Daniel L. Morrow, 69, of Batavia passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday February 23, 2020 at the LeRoy Village Green. He was born in Batavia on August 12, 1950 to the late Murray Morrow and Donna (O’Brien) Morrow of Batavia. In addition to his father, Daniel is predeceased by his wife; Georgina A. Morrow

Daniel was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, walking the beach, and most of all sitting by the ocean with a good book.  In his later years he took up biking and loved to talk about his 100-mile trip on the Erie Canal from Brockport to Syracuse that he made several times; by himself, with his son-in-law, Philip, and once with his grandson, Anthony.  He instilled in us a zest for life and enjoying all that was around us.  From his love of music, watching good movies, appreciating great comedy, to cheering on his beloved Yankees, Sabres and Bills (he was a hometown man through and through), traveling, great food, and good wine, he never stopped experiencing and enjoying life. Danny loved his parents, his siblings, his wife, and his children, but he found great joy in being a grandfather.  His grandkids all knew that if they needed anything, he was the one to turn to.  You have left a mark on their lives and they were blessed to call you theirs. With immense courage you faced the end of your life.  We watched you fight a disease that could not be overcome, but one that could be endured.  And you valiantly endured with a smile and grace, strength and tenacity right to the end.  You taught us all something in the last chapter of your life that we did not want to learn, but that will leave us better going forward - when life is unfair don’t get bitter, be kind. 

The last two years of your life you received the best care at Leroy Village Green.  Every nurse, every aide, every therapist, every housekeeper came in to see you and commented on your beautiful smile, your sense of humor, your kindness to each and every one.  The entire staff mourned you like you were their father, their friend, their brother.  You will be missed by many, but more importantly you will be remembered.

  Russell D. Betters, Rusty, of Oakfield, New York died peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 22, 2020 surrounded by his loving family after nearly 79 years of a life well lived. Russell was born on April 8, 1941 in Oakfield, New York to the late Marshall and Agnes Betters.  

Russell spent his entire life in Oakfield, New York, a town he loved to call home. Those who know him best speak fondly of his years as an icon at many local dealerships where he greeted his customers for nearly 60 years with, “How’s that car running?” Rusty sold thousands of cars at local dealerships including Frey Brothers Motors, Mancuso Motors, Hawley Motors, Country Motors, and most recently, Ken Barrett Chevrolet for 22 years. Russell had a wealth of knowledge and deep affinity for all things motor vehicles.

Russell was a member of the first class to attend Oakfield High School on Lewiston Road. Russell was an active Boy Scout, earning the prestigious honor of Eagle Scout. Continuing his devotion to service, Russell served in the National Guard. Russell spent his free time golfing with his son James every summer, and cherished their trip to The Masters in Augusta. He treasured the time he and Carlene spent tending to their house and beautiful gardens. Russell loved to share stories about adventures at the casino and memories of time spent at Saranac Lake.  Citizens of the town of Oakfield may remember Russ and Carlene’s restaurant Car’s Corner, and they could ring in the Christmas season by the twinkle of lights and decorations Russell put up meticulously each year at his home on Main Street.   

Dad, your wish to spend your final days at home was granted, and we will forever cherish all of the memories created and revisited during this time together. The stories, laughter, and tender moments we shared are such a gift. We are grateful you are at peace.

Russell is survived by his wife Carlene (Cadieux) of Oakfield, daughter, Wendy Spear (Bill Davis) of Batavia, son James (Kelly) Betters of Stafford, daughters Sandra Betters of Northport, and Mary Ellen McQueen (Brian) of Niskayuna, son Dean (Tracy) Cadieux of Oakfield, and daughter, Christin Thompson (Paul) of Byron. Russell loved spending time with his grandchildren Marygrace (Aaron), Julie, James, Patrick, Charlotte, Joshua, Lindsay, Marshall, Hope, Natalie, Logan, Mason, Will, Leah, Wade, and Carli. Patricia Heslor, 77, of Sun City Center, Fla., – formerly from Alabama, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

Pat enjoyed baking, sewing and gardening.

She truly enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren for many years. She also enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by: her husband, Doug Heslor, whom she married on July 15, 1961; and daughters, Tami (Larry) Burbules, of East Pembroke; Pam (Mark) Talbot, of Riverview, Fla.; son, Randy Heslor, of Alabama; five grandchildren -- Craig, Tracy, Heather, Jordan, Randy; and three great-grandchildren -- Cameron, Tanner and Addison.

There will be no funeral services at this time, a private burial will be at a later date at the Alabama Cemetery.  

Merritt F. Patrick, age 84, of Mt. Morris, passed away on Thursday February 20, 2020 at Eastside Nursing Home in Warsaw where he had been residing. He was born in Leicester, NY on August 27, 1935, a son to the late Leon and Delora (Arnold) Patrick. He is preceded in death by a brother Leon Patrick who passed away in 2018, brother-in-law’s: David Hellerman and Gerald Olin.

Merritt was a self-employed farmer in Mt. Morris owning and operating Pat-Noel Farms. He also worked 10 years at Industry in Rush, NY then worked 25 years for the State of New York Department of Corrections as a truck driver.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center and Perry Center Fire Department where he has been a member since the age of 18. He drove bus for the former Tri-Town Cadets Drum Corp. for many years, had a 3 pony hitch that he and his family would drive in many area parades, played Santa Claus for many years. In high school he was active in the FFA and 4-H. In Merritt’s spare time he enjoyed hunting, camping, antique tractors, having coffee with his friends, going to Pike Fair or just spending time with his family.

He is survived by his “pride and joy” of 65 years Loretta (Olin) Patrick whom he married on March 12, 1954, 2 daughters: Suzette Meyer of Mt. Morris, Deborah (Gary) Burke of Rochester, son: Mark (Mark Tyman) Patrick of Rochester, sister: Sandra Hellerman of Afton, Va., 4 grandchildren: Joshua (Elissa) Burke, Ashley (Timothy) Garvin, Shane (Chris) Meyer, Levi (Daniel Rose) Meyer, 5 great grandchildren: Heather and Margaret Burke, Peter and Oliver Garvin and Justin Skelly, 3 sister-in-law’s: Joy Patrick of Perry, Juday (Gary) Seng of Kansas City, KA, Pat Olin of Perry, brother-in-law: Richard (Pat) Olin of Fairfield Glade, TN., along with many nieces and nephews.

Nicholas A. Tundo, 83 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2020 at Premier Genesee Center. He was born March 17, 1936 in Batavia to the late Anthony (Lorraine Bowen) Tundo. He is preceded in death by his sister Karen Giordino, grandchildren Jason Lang, Tessacca Tundo and Jacob Lang.

Nick worked in the Rochester Laborers Union and enjoyed playing the Penny Slots.  

He is survived by his children Douglas (Amy) Tundo of West Henrietta; David (Rose) Tundo of East Bethany; Nicolette (Ricky) Lang of Batavia; Mark (Genny) Tundo of Middlebury; former wife Marie Tundo of Batavia; brothers Blaine Tundo of Rochester; Paul (Lynette) Tundo of CA; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild along with several nieces and nephews.

A 12:00 Noon Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Resurrection Parish, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia, NY 14020.
