Horace H. Wilder, 94 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (October 4, 2017) at his residence.

He was born in Batavia, NY on August 15, 1923, a son of the late Horace and Elsie Bowden Wilder. 

Horace was a Veteran of World War II, having served our country with the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was employed as a die and mold maker for Doehler Jarvis and Elchar Tool Specialists in Batavia prior to his retirement. Horace was proud to be a 60 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was a baseball fan and held seasons tickets for the Batavia Muckdogs until 2015. 

He was the loving husband of the late Maude Ella Wilder, who died June 4, 2012 and father of the late Charles Wilder who died on September 21, 2011.  

Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl (Thomas) Hance of Willoughby Hills, OH and Nancy (Barney) Mitchell of Batavia.  Six grandchildren: Frederick (Lisa) Hance, David (Akiko) Hance, Jeffrey (Shannon) Hance, Michael (Gina) Wilder, Melissa (Lorne) Leeds and Samantha Mitchell. Seven great grandchildren: Thomas, Dustin, Travis and Riley Hance, Victoria and Kalifornia Leeds and Brenden and Angel Wilder.  Daughter in law, Kathy Wilder of Sacramento, CA.

Friends of the family are cordially invited to share their thoughts, condolences and fond memories with the family on Friday (October 6th) from 5-8pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA. Services will be Saturday, 10:00am at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Batavia - Nancy J. Casper, 96, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Casper was born March 21, 1921 in Alabama, New York a daughter of the late Charles and Zella Ostrander Carroll.

Her husband, Harold Casper, passed away on December 23, 1982.

She is survived by her children, Beverly Garlipp of The Villages, Florida, John Casper of Rochester, Becky (Bernie) Allen of Elba and Charles Casper of Batavia; 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Arthur, Roger, Chuck, Albert and Alice Carroll, Ruth Lawrence, Roxy Clapp, Cora O'Dell and Peggy Warboys.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home for their years of love and caring.

There are no prior visiting hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in North Pembroke Cemetery. Rochester - Elaine R. Pratt, 71, of Rochester, died peacefully with her loving family at her side on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, in Rochester. 

Elaine was born November 1, 1945 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Donald and Hyacinth "Heidi" (Wallman) Boyle.

She was a house parent at the New York State School For The Blind, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencerport and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia.

She is survived by her husband, William S.  Pratt, whom she married November 23, 1963; her grandson, Billy Joel (Ashley) Pratt of TX; 2 great-grandchildren, Aubrey Pratt and Jacob Pratt, both of TX; 2 brothers, Gerald Boyle of Batavia and David Boyle of TX; a sister, Joan (Ayden) Plowe of Rochester; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Orlando, Jean Barnard and Mary Joan (George) Davis, all of Batavia;  and several nieces and nephews. 

She was the mother of the late Timothy W. Pratt and sister-in-law of the late Margaret Wescott.  

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Burial in Grand View Cemetery will also be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, 2652 Ridgeway Ave., Rochester, NY 14626.  Arrangements were completed by H.E. The Villages, Florida - Mr. Richard Bret “Dick” Yaw, age 82, longtime Batavia resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 under the care of Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, Florida following a brief illness.

Mr. Yaw was born November 18, 1934 in West Seneca, the son of the late Charles Yaw and Ruth Woodard Yaw.

Dick is preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Mary Patricia Yaw in 1996.

Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Maryann "Mame" Yaw; his loving children,  Kathleen Yaw of Aledo, Illinois, Todd (Amy) Yaw of Maitland, Florida and Margaret (James) Fasano of Batavia; six grandchildren, Douglas (Holly) Lamkin, Nathan Lamkin, Bret (Elizabeth) Yaw, Chelsea Yaw, Benjamin (Kimberly) Fasano and Jenna (Kevin) Arroyo; six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Cooper and Harper Lamkin, Addison and Jonah Arroyo and William Fasano; two sisters,  Carol (Richard) Smith of Lakeland, Florida and Charlene (Monroe) Kuhlkin of Spencerport; along with several nieces and nephews.

A graduate of West Seneca High School in 1952 and Erie Community College in 1954, Dick and his family moved to Batavia in 1963 when he took a position with Graham Manufacturing. He would eventually leave the company to pursue other interests in metallurgy and after many successful years in the field, he retired from Q.I.S. in 2006.

A diehard Buffalo Bills fan, Dick enjoyed many seasons alongside his "crew" from the "fan van" and had continued hope for a winning season until the end. An avid golfer, Dick was a lifelong member of Stafford Country Club where he served as the club president during the late '80's. Dick also enjoyed bowling, fishing with his family in Quebec and baseball. A lover of "his" New York Yankees, he was a standout third baseman while in college. A longtime member of St. Mary's Church, Dick was active in his community serving as a city councilman in the late 1970's, coaching little league and was a supporter of the YMCA.

A true lover of life, Dick will be remembered for the immense joy he had in spending time with his family and friends, his infectious smile and his generous, kind spirit.

There are no prior visiting hours. Dick’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia.  He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Merle R. Cowie Sr., age 87, of Sun City, AZ. and Perry, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 26, 2017 at his home in Sun City, AZ. Merle was born in Perry, NY on April 26, 1930 a son to the late Thomas and Anna (Kirchgraber) Cowie. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by brothers: Leslie, Thomas and Robert Cowie, son-in-law: Herschel Hilley and former wife/mother of his children: Vivian Atkins.

He was a 1947 graduate of Perry Central High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corp at age 17 and was a decorated Korean War Veteran. Merle returned to Perry where many of his professions/accomplishments were to occur. He was a member of the Perry Center Volunteer Fire Department (age16). Crop and dairy farmer, custom crop harvesting, bulldozing (he loved building ponds), carpenter, pilot, crop-duster and was a member of the American Legion and Civil Air Patrol. Upon retiring, Merle spent time residing in both New York and Arizona, taking advantage of the best weather. His many hobbies included hunting, flying, painting, watching Buffalo Bills football, restoring Farmall tractors, building jigsaw puzzles and being a general prankster.

He is survived by his 5 children: Merle (Sassy) Cowie Jr. of Byhalia, MS., Merleen Hilley of Punta Gorda, FL., Marleen (Steve) Cowie-Smith of Perry, Marty (Linda) Cowie of Phoenix, AZ.,  Michelle (Tony) Dukes of Pittsford; a sister Anna Page of Perry; brother Philip (Barb) Cowie of Perry, former wife/mother of his children: Marge (Hance) Cowie of Warsaw, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Alice Meiser Childs, 86, of Basom, departed for Heaven on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from the Batavia Health Care Center.  She will live for eternity with Jesus Christ, her precious Savior and all the saints who preceded her, including her beloved husband of 58 years, Marvin Childs and younger brother, Leo Meiser. 
 
Alice was born June 3, 1931, in Indian Falls to the late Loren and Beulah (Thompson) Meiser. She is survived by son Donald (Lori) Childs, daughters Marval Matyas, Denise (Scott) Lynk, Darla (Jerry) Jaszko, grandchildren Tristine (Chauncey) Vanice, Courtney (Leo) Pereira, Moriah Lynk, Taylor (Jon) Dimmig, Joie Matyas and Alexander, Jaziel, Andrew, Jeremiah, Jacobi, Jericho, Leah, Joshua and Joseph Childs, 5 great grandchildren, sister Jean (Lloyd) Schlagenhauf, brothers Floyd (Jean) Meiser, Marvin (JoAnne) Meiser, sister-in-law Nancy Meiser, special family cousin Lois Brockway, and many deeply-loved nieces and nephews.
 
Alice was a retired teacher, beginning her career in Painted Post, teaching briefly in Batavia and retiring from Oakfield-Alabama after many years as a beloved kindergarten teacher.  Her passion for children and teaching were evident in every aspect of her life.
 
She also had an extraordinary love for people, having never met a stranger. Her home, a haven of love, acceptance, and hospitality, was always open to family, friends, neighbors, speakers and traveling groups from church, fresh air children, foreign exchange students and even stranded motorists.  She especially enjoyed inviting a mix of old and new members of her church family for dinner and an enjoyable evening of games and encouragement.
 
A talented artist and musician, Alice especially enjoyed oil painting, cake decorating, ceramics, and playing the piano and organ – frequently improvising her own upbeat rhythms and tempo when she played.
 
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. this Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church, 238 Vine Street, Batavia.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church followed by a graveside service at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Corfu.  Any memorial gifts may be made to charities of the donors’ choice.

RYAN N. DeSANTIS ~ Batavia

Age 24, died Sunday morning October 1, 2017 at home. He was born February 14, 1993 in Batavia, NY a son of Lisa DeSantis and Michael Klotzbach of Batavia. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Evelyn DeSantis and paternal grandmother, Sharon Klotzbach. 

Ryan's life was MUSIC, listening, playing guitar or playing in a band, it gave him peace. He was employed by Bourbon & Burger, enjoyed skateboarding and was always happy to show off his tattoo's. Ryan will be remembered for his loyalty to family and friends and although came off  with a tough exterior, he was a mere Teddy Bear when you got to know him.           

Surviving along with his parents are his siblings, Jacqueline Klotzbach of Utica and Benjamin Klotzbach of Hilton; maternal grandfather, Nicholas DeSantis of Ft. Myers, FL; paternal grandfather, Charles Klotzbach of Corfu; his sweetheart, Sarah Ferns of NC; aunts/uncles, Lori Veltz, Linda DeSantis, Thomas Klotzbach, Patrick Klotzbach, Kathleen (Jon) Rivers, Jay (Wendy) Klotzbach, Kelly (Troy) Harlach, Elizabeth (Michael) Cipolla along with numerous cousins and friends. 

Ryan's family will be present from 4-8pm on Wednesday October 4, 2017 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATON CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers will be recited 11:30am Thursday October 5 followed by a 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary's Site). Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Lawson, 79, of Alden and Darien was called home to the Lord on Monday October 2, 2017 at the Batavia Health Care Center. She was born on August 8, 1938 in Reynoldsville, PA to the late Louis and May (Cattau) Kroh. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is predeceased by her beloved husband, Valdon O. Lawson, and siblings Ellen (Lee) Strickland and Paul (Alice) Kroh.

She is survived by her five children: Catherine Lawson of Alden, Trina (Eric) Goodman of Darien, Kevin (Michele) Lawson of E. Bethany, Ray (Vicki) Lawson of Pembroke, and Gary (Jennifer) Lawson of Horseheads, NY; brother Clair Kroh of Alden; grandchildren Shannon, Taylor and Alexis Goodman, Sarah, Ian, Kelly, Jenna, Dimitri, Nathan and Kiya Lawson; close friends Sandra Schecterly of Darien and Pat Weiser of Warsaw, along with many nieces, nephews and relatives.

Elizabeth was a partner in Lawson’s Motor Sales in Darien for many years with her late husband, Valdon. She served as the Assessor for the Town of Darien for 20 years prior to her retirement in 2004. She often said her biggest accomplishment was raising five wonderful children and seeing how they and their families grew and enjoyed life. Betty liked playing pinochle with friends in the Darien and Corfu senior citizen groups. She was known for her crocheted afghan creations and also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles with family and friends.

Batavia - Harlo C. Towner, 81, of Batavia, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Batavia Health Care Center, LLC.

Mr. Towner was born May 7, 1936 in Wayland, a son of the late Dewey Towner and Eva Weber Towner.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette A. Moss Towner, whom he married May 6, 1960; two daughters, Janis (Greg) Lontkowski of Batavia and Sheryl (Denley) Edgerton of Wilson; three grandchildren, Emily Lontkowski of Batavia, Cherish Edgerton of Massachusetts and Benjamin Edgerton of Wilson; his brother, William (Georgia) Towner of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; his sister, Edith (Kenneth) Deault of Tuscon, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother, Dewey E. Towner, Sr.

Charles Mariano “Lobo” LoBello Sr., 77, of Batavia passed away on Thursday September 21, 2017 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born in Buffalo on February 10, 1940.

He served in the military in the early 1960's and spent time in Germany during his service. After the military he settled in Batavia, NY where he resided with family and friends until his passing. Charles enjoyed retirement and loved spending time with his family and working on his cars. He especially enjoyed and loved being a great Grandfather.

Charles is survived by his 3 children; Christine (Chris) Reedhead of Rochester, Charles (Robin) LoBello Jr. of AZ., and Julia LoBello of AZ.; grandchildren Nikki (Seth Kramer) LoBello, Vincent (Keturah) Reedhead, Daniel LoBello, Isabella LoBello and David LoBello; great-grandchildren Ezra Kramer and Oliver Reedhead.

LeRoy ~ Beatrice "Bea" C. Vernaccini, age 81, formerly of Munson Street, died peacefully with her family by her side early Monday morning (Sept. 25, 2017) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

    

She was born August 2, 1936 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Ralph and Josephine Gomborone Yachett.

     Bea will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who simply just loved life itself.  She was a very giving person, who was devoted to her faith, her family and her friends.  She enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra and was very supportive of her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.

     She is survived by her daughter, Susan Becker of E. Bethany, her son, Samuel (Krissy) Vernaccini of Brockport; grandchildren, Brandon (Renee) Mills, Justin Becker, Amanda Becker (Jacob Bohn) and Samuel Vernaccini III; great-grandchildren, Audrina Mae and Kenley Claire Mills; sister, Joan (Sam) Riggi of LeRoy; sisters-in-law, Tina Vernaccini of LeRoy and Josephine Luce of Bergen; brother-in-law, Steve Vernaccini of Bergen; best friend, Josie Conte of LeRoy, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Samuel Vernaccini in 2009, her sister, Marie Breslin, her twin sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Scafetta and her dear friends, Patricia Bovenzi, Betty Jane Leanen and Evelyn Tabone.

Carl “Buzzy” Becker, 63, of Rochester, formally of North Java passed away on Monday September 25, 2017 at the Shore Winds Nursing Home in Rochester. He was born on April 7, 1954 in Buffalo to the late Bernard and Leona (Schwab) Becker.

Nicknamed "Buzzy" by his brother when they were kids, Carl was a free spirit that loved his daughter, Suz and his family and friends in Sheldon, NY. He helped his father combine and he independently had a crop-spraying business with his red "M" tractor. He enjoyed flying his Hawk Ultralight plane and cruising on his Harley. He was an avid reader of Sci-fi and history. He loved watching Star Trek or jamming the tunes of the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, and Fleetwood Mac.

Carl is survived by his daughter; Suzanne (Edward) Mendes of Varysburg; siblings Joan (Duane) Hopkins of WV., John Becker of North Java and Kathy (Roger) Hanley of Sandusky, NY.

Theodore C. “Ted” Ianni, 69, of Lockport, passed away on Sunday (September 24, 2017) at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport.

Ted was born December 22, 1947 in New Haven, CT, the son of  Mario Ianni of Lockport and the late Maria (Perozzi) Ianni.

Ted was a free spirit, who always followed his dreams.  He enjoyed his life and spending time with family and friends. 

Surviving with his father, Mario, are several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Along with his mother, Maria, Ted is predeceased by his son, Alexander Ianni.

Sharon Stoltzfus, age 49, of Perry, passed away on Saturday September 23, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester surrounded by her family. Sharon was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 30, 1967 a daughter to Grace J. Yoder of Maryland and the late John E. Yoder.

Sharon was a homemaker who loved raising her four beautiful children and being a wonderful pastor’s wife. She enjoyed reading, music, singing, walks through Letchworth State Park, tending to her flower gardens, cooking, baking and collecting antiques. She was a member of the Mt. Anthems Choir Group in Salisbury Pa. for 7 years in her youth and was an active member of the Silver Lake Mennonite Church in Perry.

She is survived by her husband: Ernest Stoltzfus whom she married on August 18, 1990, 1 daughter: Joanna Stoltzfus of Perry, 3 sons: Kendric (Heather) Stolzfus of Orange, Va., Derek and Danny Stoltzfus both of Perry, her mother: Grace J. Yoder of Grantsville, MD, a sister: Twila Yoder of Albright, WV, 2 brothers: Duane Yoder of Berlin, PA. and Wendel Yoder of Baltimore, MD, her mother-in-law: Lydia Stoltzfus of Honey Brook, PA., , 2 sisters-in-law: Mamie Bontrager of Arlington, KS, Becky (Jacob) Esh of Honey Brook, PA, a brother-in-law: Sam (Rosa Marie) Stoltzfus of Honey Brook, PA, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Margery G. Keem, 94, of Perry passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw where she had been residing. Marge was born in the Town of Gainesville on May 11, 1923 a daughter of the late Albert and Hazel (Ellis) Grasby. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband; Nelson R. Keem who passed away on February 6, 1993; 2 son-in-laws David Milhollen and Richard Ames; brother Donald Grasby and her mother and father-in-law Earl and Leta Keem.

She worked for the former Gates Transport Trucking Company in Perry for 12 years and later for Hart’s Insurance Co. in Perry as a commercial Insurance agent for 18 years retiring in 1992. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry where she was involved with the United Methodist Women, a member of the Wyoming County Home Bureau, former Golden Age Club of Perry and the Senior Social Club of Perry. Marge enjoyed listening to country music, was an excellent pie maker, family and friends called her home “Grandma’s Pie Factory”, the biggest part of her life was family, she enjoyed those simple visits especially from her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She is survived by her two dedicated daughters;  Judy (Bill Goewey) Milhollen of Leicester and Nancy Ames of Perry; 3 grandchildren Russell (Gay) Milhollen of Leicester, Douglas (Holly) Milhollen of Perry, Scott (Kellie) Milhollen of Perry; Step grandchildren Cynthia Sims, Samantha (Leigh) Ciesleiski and Christopher Sims; 7 great grandchildren Mark (Rachel) Milhollen, Rachele (Bob) True, Dustin (Ashley) Milhollen, Amber (Chris) True, Morgan, Autumn and Noelle Milhollen; 7 great-great grandchildren Averie True, Camden, Declan, and Harper Milhollen, Peyton True, Ciara Milhollen and Reese True; a sister Lena Mertz of Warsaw; sister-in-law Dorothy Grasby of Warsaw; brother-in-law Harry Boyer of Batavia, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
