Mrs. Loretta San Fratello

Rochester - Loretta San Fratello, 94, of Rochester, formerly of Batavia, longtime bookkeeper for Sportservice at Batavia Downs Racetrack, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at St. Ann's Home, in Irondequoit, NY.

Mrs. San Fratello was born August 6, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Raymond Giuliano and Josephine (Sorce) Giuliano. She was the matriarch of both the San Fratello and Giuliano families in her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and niece. She will be remembered for her devotion to and love of family first, including all her extended family and friends of all ages.

She reveled in her home life, was a terrific (and creative) cook who enjoyed that role immensely - with stories to be told of her exploits by many over the years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and attended Mass at St. Mary’s Church and St. Joseph’s Church. Her hobbies included making ceramics in her younger years and cultivating and nurturing house plants in later ones.

Her husband, Salvatore "Sam" San Fratello, passed away on September 16, 1995, one year before their 50th anniversary. They met during the early years of World War II.  She is also predeceased by her grandson, Jason Grizzanto who passed away on December 30, 2006 and her brothers, Sam, Lawrence and John Giuliano.

She is survived by her brother Albert Giuliano of Chicago; her children, Raymond (Carol) San Fratello of Clermont, Florida, Francine (Richard) Grizzanto of Webster and Jeffery (Amy Hamilton) San Fratello of Batavia; five grandchildren, Kara, Kayla and Ryan San Fratello, Gina (Doug) Keddie and Michael Grizzanto; her great-grandson, Elijah Keddie; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street in Batavia. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia.  She will be entombed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery Mausoleum. Mrs. Marjorie A. Lyon

LeRoy - Marjorie A. Lyon, 96, of LeRoy, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Lyon was born August 2, 1921 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Albert and Lillian Crawford Krull.

A former member of the Bowmansville United Methodist Church, Mrs. Lyon was active in the Bowmansville Chapter of the Home Bureau. An avid gardener, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Lawrence W.  Lyon, passed away in 2011.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Ann) Lyon of Clarence, Patricia (Ron) Sherry of Pembroke, Massachusetts, John (Phyllis) Lyon of Ridgley, West Virginia and Jeffrey (Cathy) Lyon of LeRoy; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is the mother of the late James Lyon; grandmother of the late Michael Lyon and sister of the late George, Raymond, John and Robert Krull and Dorris Bindig.

Friends and family may call on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Arlene J. Mancuso

LeRoy ~ Arlene J. "Huggie" Mancuso, age 87, of Wolcott Street, passed away early Monday morning (November 20, 2017) at United Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

     

She was born June 16, 1930 in Alabama, N.Y., a daughter of the late Moses and Josephine DeMars Garrow.

     She will be remembered as the loving matriarch of her family.  She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.  Holidays were always special to her when her family all came together.  She became known as "Huggie" to her family and "adopted family", as she always welcomed anyone who came through her door.  She was a great cook and baker, and in her earlier years, worked for the Elm Dairy, the Jello Factory and the Broadway Restaurant.

     She is survived by her, daughters, Sharon (Tom) Royce of LeRoy, Debbie (Vern) Falcone of LeRoy and Laura (Dean) McClurg of Warsaw; grandchildren, Roxanne Coniber, Jason (Missy) Coniber, Brian (Becky) Coniber, Toni Jo Royce, Jenna (Matt) Falcone Brooks, Kristin Falcone and Michael (Paula) McClurg; great-grandchildren, Zachary Bieber, McKenna and Hailey Coniber, Lindsey and Madison Coniber and Aiden and Brenna McClurg, brother, Donald (Marilyn) Pursel of LeRoy, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and favorite dog, Raina.

     She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Raymond L. Mancuso and her siblings, Joseph (Joan) Garrow, Margaret (Walter) Churchfield, Richard (Barbara) Pursel, Robert (Betty) Pursel, Ann Pursel and Betty Garrow.

     Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2 ~ 6 at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  Her Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church, 44 Lake Street, LeRoy.  Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.

Philip S. Cowie

Philip S. Cowie, age 84, of Perry, NY, passed away on Sunday November 19, 2017 at his home. Philip was born in Perry, NY on July 6, 1933 a son to the late Thomas and Anna (Kirchgraber) Cowie. He is preceded in death by a son: David Cowie who passed away in 2001, brothers: Leslie, Thomas, Robert and Merle Cowie.

He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Phil was a self employed contractor for many years before becoming the Superintendent for the Village of Perry. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center, Perry Fire Department where he was past chief, Perry Rotary Club where he was past President, and created many of the stage sets for the annual Rotary show, Wyoming County Pioneer Association where he was past President, and sang with the Warsaw Barbershoppers Chorus. He was a caring person who was always there to lend a helping hand to whom ever needed it. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and was proud of his children’s accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara (Chapin) Cowie whom he married on Feb. 18, 1982, 4 sons: Mark (Gail) Cowie of Rochester, Scott (Cheryl) Cowie of Perry, Michael (Michelle) Cowie of Tuscaloosa., Al., Matthew (Gretchen) Cowie of Perry, a sister: Anna Page of Perry, 5 grandchildren: P.J. (Kat) Cowie, Allie Cowie, Sydney Cowie, Tyler Cowie and Walter Cowie, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

JENNIE B. GERKE

Jennie Gerke, 92, passed away peacefully on November 19th, 2017.  Beloved wife of Edward, Jennie was a former LPN at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital. She is predeceased by sisters Mary, Marie, Stella and brothers Mike and Ignatz, along with her feline companion, Blackie. 

She is survived by her children, Robert E. (Darlene) of Oakfield, Mary Ann (Gareth) Parfitt of Hamburg & Susan M. (Craig) Pagaduan of Hawaii. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Brian (Rosanna) Parfitt, Chenoa Pagaduan, Cyrus Pagaduan, David (Janelle) Parfitt, and Rob Gerke, Jr., along with 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Charlotte M. DeMena

Charlotte M. DeMena, passed away November 17, 2017 at the age of 79, daughter of Harry & Florence Van Alst.

She leaves behind her older sister, Florence Ross and beloved husband, Elder Ronald DeMena Sr. of 60 years; 2 children, Ronald Jr. and Pamela; 5 grandchildren, Ronald III, Gary, and Nial DeMena, Walter Briggs, and Timothy Corey; 5 great-grandchildren, Camden, Madelyn, Anna, Dani and Gary Jr.

Charlotte was a faithful woman of God and the Lord Jesus Christ, and a true help mate. She will be missed immensely by family, church family and many friends.

DIANE L. REBMANN

DIANE L. REBMANN ~ Batavia

Lifelong administrative and managerial registered nurse, died Thursday November 16, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident. She was born August 20, 1947 in Alden to the late Ralph & Dorothy (Holtz) Horni.

Diane’s nursing career spanned many years and touched many lives. Known for her care and compassion as home health care registered nurse at Genesee County Health Dept. She continued her career in administrative nursing at McCauley Seton and retired from the VNA (Visiting Nursing Association) in Batavia.
She enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, backpacking, canoeing, cross country skiing, fishing and bird watching. She was a member of the YMCA where she played pickleball as well.
Diane will be remembered as an extremely caring woman who was devoted to her family and most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was also active at Our Lady of Good Council R.C. Church in Darien Center. 

Surviving is her loving husband of 49 years, Donald Rebmann of Batavia; beloved children, Stephanie Norris of Chesapeake, VA and her children, Kaylee & Ashley, Douglas (Tammy) Rebmann of Alexander and their children, Leah, Katie, Michael & Joseph, Debra Webster of Batavia and her children, Tanner & Kelly, Julie (Daniel) Vella of Rochester and their children, Zinnia, Zander, Olivia & Alec, Christopher (Carrie) Rebmann of Darien and children, Tess & Chloe; 6 great-grandchildren; dear sisters, Donna (David) Stolzman and Cindy (David) Meyer all of Alden; in-laws, Gerri (late Joseph) Matre, Norman (Rusty) Rebmann, Raymond Rebmann, Ann (Joseph) Morin, Nancy (James) Allegretto, Phillip  (Cathy) Rebmann, Patricia Begiers, the late Sandra Hinksen along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Robert C. Adams

A celebration of life for Robert C. Adams will be held from 2 to 4 pm November 24 at the Holiday Inn Express meeting room, 4356 Commerce Drive, Batavia, where relatives and friends are invited to share their stories and memories with the Adams family. Robert C. Adams passed away August 3, 2017 at his home in Odenton, MD after a long battle with cancer.  "Bob" grew up in Elba.

James Chester Walker

LeRoy - James Chester Walker, 45, of LeRoy, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center.

James was born April 4, 1972 in Brockport, a son of Rev. Raymond (Virginia) Walker of Stafford and Cordella Walker Purnell of Laurinburg, NC.

James will be remembered as a loving man and a great father.  A veteran, he served with the United States Army.  He received numerous awards for his culinary skills and he was an assistant manager at SUNY Geneseo.

Surviving along with his parents are his fiancée, Torry Washington of LeRoy; children, Tykirah Ellerbe of North Carolina, James Raymond Walker of Kentucky, Danaye Maddox of LeRoy and Della Rose Walker of LeRoy; grandchildren, Tyquez Pittman, Tyneric White and Tykeal Ellerbe; a brother, Raymond D. Walker of Batavia; a niece, Renea Walker of North Carolina; a nephew, Edward Walker of North Carolina and a niece, Courtney Walker of Ohio; a great-niece, Raven Boggan of North Carolina and several cousins, aunts and uncles.  

James is a grandson of the late Chester Purnell, Willie Ruth Purnell, William Walker and Ruth Walker.

Calling hours are Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home 403 East Main St., Batavia.  Services and burial with full military honors will be in Laurinburg, North Carolina.

Kenneth Draycott

Batavia - Kenneth Draycott, 92, of Batavia, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Kenneth was born July 2, 1925 in England, a son of the late Joseph and Ann (Walters) Draycott.

Kenneth served during World War II with the Royal Naval Commandos.  He is a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Rochester Consistory and a 50 year Master Mason.  He enjoyed reading, especially about history and geography, classical music and traveling, having visited England 13 times.  Kenneth was very active with the Boy Scouts and was also proud to have mastered using his iPad. He was a sales representative at Chemi-Trol Chemical Co. in Gibsonburg, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Jane E. (Hall) Draycott, of Batavia, whom he married December 15, 1956; one son, Kenneth J. (Carolyn) Draycott of Auburn; one daughter, Phyllis J. Draycott of Batavia and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Kenneth is the brother of the late J. Leslie Draycott.

All service will be private.

CLARENCE J. "PeeWee" DOWNS

CLARENCE J. "PeeWee" DOWNS ~ Elba

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully Thursday afternoon November 16, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 9, 1940 in Elba, NY to the late Floyd and Lottie (Johnson) Downs, also preceded in death by his first wife, Linda (Farren) Downs; son, Richard J. Downs, great-grandchildren, Destiny & Jasmine Lowe and Brodi Robinson; siblings, Floyd, Elwood, Robert & Charlotte along with in-laws, Marie (Kenneth) Years and Robert (Pat) Townsend. 

Mr. Downs was a self-taught mechanic who could fix anything from a stock car to a pea harvester working up until last year for many area Muckers including, Marky's Wholesale, Big O Farms and Torrey Farms. He enjoyed stock car racing, NASCAR, John Wayne movies and was always available to help someone in need. PeeWee will be remembered as a loving, caring, family man who simply loved to be home, on Thursday afternoon Nov. 16, 2017, Heaven welcomed its "Newest Angel." 

Surviving is his beloved wife of 42 years, Vickie (Townsend) Downs of Elba; loving children, Carl J. & James C. both of Elba and Shawn (Daniel) Hargrave of E. Colleen R. King

Stafford – It is with great sadness that the family of Colleen R. King announces her sudden passing, on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at the age of 45 years. She will be remembered by her children Christopher B. King, Brittany K. Rodon, Anthony (AJ) Armstrong, Cody Kosiorek and her many friends. She was also mother of the late Ashley Rodon.

Colleen was born April 24, 1972, in Batavia, NY. She was the daughter of the late Richard R. (Rip) King and is survived by her mother, Karen Balduf King, and brother Brian S. (Christine) King, of Corfu.

A memorial service in memory of Colleen will be held at noon on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at The Sportsman Coon Club, Hopkins Road, Corfu, for family and friends.

Mrs. Linda M. Mead Engelhardt Royse

Batavia - Linda M. Mead Engelhardt Royse, 76, of Batavia, an avid bingo player who loved her family dearly, passed away on died Thursday, November 16, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Royse was born May 12, 1941, a daughter of the late George and Irene Larmon Mead.

She is predeceased by her husbands, John W. Engelhardt and Ralph L. Royse, Sr.

Survivors include three sons; G. Bill (Joanne) Engelhardt of Batavia, Ralph (Deb) Royse, Jr. of Batavia, and Ward Royse of Batavia: seven daughters; Helen Engelhardt of Batavia, Irene McNutt of Batavia, Linda Royse of Batavia, Annie Royse of Virginia, Ruth (Tom) Gilliatt of Batavia, Malynda (Billy) Blackshere of Batavia and Mabel Ramirez of Batavia; one sister, Mabel (Robert) VanNess of Brighton, 38 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Linda DiMartino Engelhardt; grandson, Andrew Cianfrini, brother, Donald Mead and nephew, Johnny Houch.

SHIRLEY J. EARL

SHIRLEY J. EARL ~ 90 years old of Batavia, passed away on Friday,11/10/17 at the Batavia Health Care Center.

   Shirley was born and raised in Erie, Pa., and graduated from the Erie Academy High School in 1944. She then moved to Batavia in 1964, where she lived the remainder of her life. Shirley loved to take walks and meet up with friends at local restaurants. Earlier in her life, she loved to ride bicycles throughout the city. Faith was also a big part of her life. She attended Grace Baptist Church when it was located on Bank Street, and most recently at the City Church on Batavia's Main Street.

   Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Edna Anna (Allen) Luther. Also by three brothers:  Charles Luther, John Randolph Luther and Douglas Robert Luther; as well as by one daughter-in-law, Fibi Earl. 

   Surviving relatives are her three children: Kevin (Cathleen) Earl, Kristi (Jim) Earl Houseman, and Kerry Earl; Grandchildren: Renee (Tony) Earl Becker, Amanda Earl, Michael Gilbert, Kathryn (Erik) Merrell, Justin Earl and Jasmin Earl. Shirley is also survived by three Great Grandchildren: Gavin Becker, Julia Merrell and Charlotte Merrell. 

   There will not be any calling hours. In the Spring, a private family celebration will be held in Erie, where burial will take place at that time. If desired, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, at 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17 in Chicago, IL  60601. Additionally, memorials or donations may be sent to the Batavia Health Care Center, 257 State Street, Batavia, NY.
