Dennis L. Groth, 84, of Corfu, New York passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022.  He was born on April 24, 1937 to the late Lyman and Helen (Barnes) Groth.  He is predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Joyce (Skeet) Groth. 
Dennis was a member of the Corfu High School Class of 1955.  He was a member and Trustee of the Cornerstone Church of East Pembroke, and a lifetime member of the East Pembroke Fire Department.  Dennis served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves for 21 years earning the rank of Chief Enginemate. 

After graduating from High School, Dennis was employed at the Genesee Co. Highway Department and Eaton, Yale and Towne in Batavia in the Engineering Department.  In the 1970’s, Dennis joined the family business of L.J. Groth & Sons.  He was also employed at the Pembroke Central School District.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, taking care of his lawn, and spending his winters in Bradenton, FL where he loved to play cards and visit with friends.  Dennis also enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by two children, Gregory Groth and Joan (Matthew) Worth.  A brother Norman Groth and a sister-in-law Marilyn Percey.  Six grandchildren, Meghan (Chanel) Luck, Benjamin (Tammy) Groth, Adam (Rebecca) Worth, Kathryn Worth, Bailey Groth, Camryn Richardson, and four great-grandchildren, Luke and Natalie Worth, Callan Richardson, and Elena Groth, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be no prior calling hours, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Church of East Pembroke, 2583 Main Road, E. Pembroke NY, with burial to follow at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Corfu, NY.  The family respectfully requests that anyone attending the Memorial Service to please wear a mask.

Nicholas L. Van Son, 37 of Imperial Beach, CA, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He was born February 8, 1984 in El Centro, CA to Leticia (Jerry) McGuire of CA and Timothy (Debbie) Van Son of SC.  

Nick, loved California, he loved the weather and animals. His daughter was everything to him.  

He is survived by his daughter, Abrielle Moon Trauscht of Attica, parents, brother, Matthew Van Son of Miami, sister, Heidi (Dave) Compton of Attica; Tanya Trauscht of Attica, along with several nieces and nephews.

Sophie P. Burey, of Darien Center, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, surrounded by her five beloved children. Pinky (Sophie) was born October 19, 1935, in Buffalo, NY to the late Pearl DeSio and John S. Winstel.

Pinky lived a full and active life. Without a doubt, her greatest love was her family. She was the foundation of the family, raising five children and managing a busy household. There are no words to express how special she was to her family. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 64 years, Robert E. Burey. She is survived by her children, Karen R. Prince, Susan L. Coulter, Patti G. Burey, Robert S. Burey and Brett M. Burey; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and her brother and sister, John and Catherine Winstel.

Pinky loved the outdoors. She enjoyed camping and canoeing in the Adirondack Mountains with her husband, Bob, family, and friends. She was also a member of both Honey Hill and Bluemont ski patrols. Her other interests included golfing, bowling, the WNY Gas and Steam Engine Association, the Attica Historical Society, and the Attica Haunted House Association.

Pinky was always thinking of others and will be dearly missed. Services will be private.

June Reigle, age 90, went to be with our Lord on the evening of Wednesday, January 12, 2022.  June was born on May 9, 1931 in Newstead, New York. 

She lived in Batavia most of her life.  She worked at G.T.E. Sylvania for 30 years until she retired.  June liked watching Game Shows, doing Word Search Puzzles, and she used to love going to BINGO.  She also loved animals very much. 

June is survived by her only child, a daughter, Sharon Reigle.  She will be sadly missed by Sharon as well as her kitty, Ricky, and her puppy, Squirt.

Suzanne J. Drachenberg, 82 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Thursday (January 20, 2022) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born February 17, 1939 in Elba, a daughter of the late Onofrio Sr. and Rose Marabella Monachino.

Suzanne was employed by the Batavia City School District for several years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed social media, especially Facebook, bowling, cornhole and being outdoors. She carried on the tradition of the matriarch of the family and enjoyed every minute with them. Whether it was big family dinners, get togethers or vacations, she loved her time with her beloved family.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Donald Drachenberg Sr. of Batavia. Sons, Donald (Robert Sharman II) Drachenberg Jr. of Rochester and Daniel Drachenberg of Canandaigua. Daughters, Melissa (Brian Pillo) Drachenberg of Batavia and Kimberly (late Thomas) Butler of Oakfield. Grandchildren, Erica Dibble, Ryan Dibble, David Pillo, Jessica Johnson, Cory Johnson, Scott Manes Jr. and Shannon Butler. Brother, Joseph Monachino Sr. of Missouri. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, Onofrio Monachino Jr., Patsy Monachino Sr., Sam Monachino, Paul Monachino Sr. and Thomas Monachino Sr. Sisters, Philippa Burns, Betty Capadano and Pauline Groulx.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery.

LeRoy ~ Donald B. Hobart, age 70, of Warsaw Road, passed away on January 21, 2022 at home after a long battle with cancer.

     Donald was born on September 7, 1951 in Cortland, New York. He was the son of the late Francis L. Hobart and Dorothy Brown Hobart. Donald was the fourth of six children; older siblings Ronald, Daniel, and Judy, and his younger siblings Charles and Sharon, as well as many other half-siblings. 

    

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Dixie Hobart (née Schoneman), after a loving marriage of 53 years. Other family includes his daughter, Kimberly (Andrew) Carmichael of Homer, his son, Kyle (Jenna) Hobart of LeRoy, and his daughter, Korinne (Michael) Anderson of Batavia; grandchildren, Amanda Yanik (Dan), Amber Hassell (Charlie), Kyle Hobart Jr., Braydon Hobart, Zachary Anderson, Keaton Hobart, Aidan Anderson, Emma Hobart, and Ava Anderson; and great-grandchildren; Halie and Rhett Hassell and Judson, Maxwell, and Saoirse Yanik.

     Donald worked for a number of manufacturing companies in Cortland, New York, always believing that making and producing things out of raw materials created and sustained a strong middle class. He worked for Chris Craft Boats, Agway Fabrication, Brockway Motor Trucks, Pall Trinity Corp., and Grossman’s Lumber, where he became the youngest branch manager at the age of 21. In 1981, Donald was recruited by the Eastman Kodak Company, moving his family to Le Roy, New York, where he would live for the remainder of his life. Through a series of promotions, he became one of three Ombudsmen of Eastman Kodak until his retirement.

     He attended school in Homer and Cortland, going on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Roberts Wesleyan College. Later on, he completed a graduate program in Labor Relations from Cornell University. 

     Upon relocation to Le Roy, Donald and his family became involved in the United Methodist Church, where all three of his children were baptized. He became the President of the Board of Trustees.

     Donald had a passion for education and spent 21 years as a member of the LeRoy Central School Board of Education (15 years as the board president). He was also a longtime president of the Genesee Valley School Boards Association, as well as the National School Boards Association. For his many years of dedication, in 2010 Donald was chosen as the New York State and National School Board Association’s Advocate of the Year. In addition, he was also the proud recipient of the Albert Hawk Award.

     Donald put emphasis on his family life and loved getting together with his family frequently. He and his wife Dixie own Rockland Cottage on Skaneateles Lake, where they have years of memories. Their friends also held great importance to him, especially lifelong friend, Ron Walters.

     A man of many interests, Donald was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, history, literature, the outdoors, hunting, and traveling. He will be remembered for his work ethic, compassion, and ambition.

     Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 25 from 4 ~ 7 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd. (Rt. 19), LeRoy. (Facemasks are required to be worn inside at all times)  His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 26 at 11:00 AM at the LeRoy United Methodist Church, 10 Trigon Park.  He will be laid to rest at a later date in Homer, N.Y.

Ruth G. Stinson, 80 of Rochester, formerly of Batavia, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. She was born April 6, 1941 in Okahumpka, FL to the late Henry and Hattie Mae (Thompson) Hatcher. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry Stinson, sons, Otis L. Thomas Jr. and Titus Stinson; brothers, Bernard, Othella and Tommy Hatcher; sisters, Hazel McKinny, Annie Johnson, Lilly Mae Littles, Dorothy Rolle and Rosa Williams.

Mrs. Stinson, retired from Genesee County DSS as a Social Worker. She loved the Lord, her family and was a woman of great faith. Ruth was a Pastor that touched many lives as a counselor, community leader, foster mother and a stronghold for those in need. Mrs. Stinson, deservingly won Fabulous Woman of Genesee County. She will be missed by many and remembered for the tireless help she offered to all.

She is survived by her beloved children, Ocie (Al) Swilley of FL., Tyrone (Mary) Stinson of Buffalo, Kevin Thomas of Rochester, Charlotte Thomas of Gates, Tamar Stinson of Buffalo, Onita Thomas of Gates-Chili, Dexter Stinson of Rochester, Rosa (Abrham) Cotton of Rochester, Regina Stinson of Rochester and Michael Stinson of Rochester, sister, Minnie Lee Rolle of Ft. Pierce, FL; cousins, Claude Brockington, Henrietta Tyndell, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Nancy Marie (Chatt) Jaszko, 83 of Batavia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, (January 12, 2022) at her home with her husband and children at her side.

Mrs. Jaszko was born May 14, 1938 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Washburn) Chatt.

She was a parishioner of St. Padre Pio Parish - St. Cecilia's Church in Oakfield and sold Avon for 35 years. Nancy was a precious little soul who loved life and was loved by everyone who met her. She was a mother to many and a peacemaker for all. Mrs. Jaszko was lovingly known as Nana by all the neighborhood children.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Jaszko of Batavia; daughters, Catherine Jaszko, and Lorie (Scott McAllister) Jaszko both of Batavia; sisters, Susan (Ron) Odessa of Batavia, Shirley Scott of Batavia, and Diane (Chuck) Lee of Lockport; brothers, Michael (Patricia) Chatt of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Andrew (Christine) Chatt of South Dakota. 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by her son, Joseph David Jaszko.

Thomas J. Mooney, 75 of Attica, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born November 25, 1946 in Batavia, to the late William and Lucile (Pierce) Mooney. Mr. Mooney is preceded in death by his siblings, Roy, Bill, Kenneth, John Mooney; Mildred (Ross) Smith.

Tom worked for many years at Attica Central School. Music was an enormous part of his life, he cut a record and played in bands for most of his life. Tom was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and camp.

He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (Merlin) Mooney of Attica; children, Thomas (Michelle) Mooney Jr. of Elizabethtown, PA, Priscilla (Ray Toperek) Mooney of Lackawanna, NY, Sherry (Dominc) Cusatis of Downingtown, PA; sister, Mary Richley of Attica; four grandchildren, Christopher and Felicia Toperek, Hannah Mooney, Cody Cusatis; 3 great-grandchildren, Angelica, Ashlyn and Audrey, along with many nieces and nephews.

  John H. Magnus, 93, of the town of Alabama, NY, passed away on Monday January 17, 2022 at the Wyoming County Community Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born on April 5, 1928 in Baldwin, NY to the late Edward and Helen (Heyward) Magnus. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his first wife; Margot (Kopf) Magnus, his second wife; Deanna (Walls) Guihan and third wife; Myrna (Daniels) Magnus; sister Helen Richthammer.

Mr. Magnus was a proud United States Army Veteran and member of American Legion Post 626 in Basom, NY. He enjoyed the 29 years he spent working for the Telephone Company and retired as a foreman in Babylon, NY. John also spent time working on furnaces part time in Bay Shore, NY and also part time at SEARS Automotive Department in Bayshore, NY. He was known to micromanage at M&M Seafoods out on the dredge. M&M was Magnus & Magnus John's son kirks boat business in West Sayville NY. Where he would spend every day there helping or as his son kirk would say...micro managing the dock yard.  He was an avid duck hunter, master boat builder, push pole maker and meticulous decoy creator. John won awards for his duck boats, decoys and was the center point of many articles, and was mentioned in a few books. He had a bay house on an island in Freeport that was used in the winters for duck hunting with the guys and the summers for family and friends gatherings. John also built a house in East Hampton for his parents, where family and friends would gather for summers for boating, fishing and swimming for many years. 

He is survived by his children Barbara (Ricky) Erdman, Deanna (Peter) Keenan, Kirk (Rachel) Magnus, John (Dianna) Magnus; stepsons Brett (Denise) Easterbrook and Tim (Shelly) Easterbrook, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Oakfield - Paula Ann (Dennis) Luker, 72 of Oakfield, entered into eternal peace on Tuesday (January 18, 2022) in the home she built with her husband Dan by her side.

Paula was born on December 7, 1949 in Batavia, to the late Arthur and Dolores (Smith) Dennis.

Paula was raised in Alabama, New York, was a graduate of Oakfield-Alabama Central School, worked for several years at Peterson's Drug Store and managed the "Love of Pete" gift shop in Oakfield. Paula also served on both the Oakfield Town and Village Boards and proudly served in various positions as a member of the Oakfield First Presbyterian Church. Paula had a gift to write and say the most beautiful words. She loved sending out cards to her family and friends, always with a small note for that special added touch. She would say her "life is wonderful, God has truly blessed me."

Paula married her high school sweetheart, Dan on October 26, 1968 and recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. She was so proud of her two children and would tell everyone about her five beautiful grandchildren.

Paula is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Dolores (Smith) Dennis and Father-in-law, Carl Luker.

She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel; her daughter, Kimberly (Edward) Staniszewski; her son, Jeffrey (Shui-Wah) Luker; her grandchildren, Emily Ann, and Joseph Staniszewski, Nathaniel, Katarina, and Angelina Luker; brother, Alan (Debbie) Dennis; sister, Wendy (Mike) Saeli; sisters-in-law, Diane (Rick) Stafford, Tammy (Rick) Way, and Cindy (John Ramos) Luker. Several nieces and nephews who she loved very much also survive.

Family and Friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Oakfield United Methodist Church, 2 South Main Street in Oakfield, where Paula's Funeral Service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Cary Cemetery in Oakfield. Churchville – Ruth Alexander Logan, 60 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 16, 2022 with her husband and children by her side.

Ruth was born August 20, 1961, daughter of the late David and Gladys Alexander.

Ruth lived with commitment, integrity and joy.  A life-long member of the Churchville community, Ruth served on the staff of Roberts Wesleyan College since 1990.  Her first role was in the Office of Development for 10 years, until she was asked to serve as Director of Human Resources.  In 2004 she was appointed as the Vice President for Administration and became a member of the President’s Cabinet.  In 2017 she transitioned to Vice President for Student and Organizational Development, overseeing employees, student life, athletics, emergency response, diversity initiatives and history/archives.  Her career and ministry at Roberts Wesleyan College spanned 30 years and was focused on the high calling of transformational Christian education and she used her voice and role to support, clarify, mentor and encourage both staff and students alike.

Ruth will also be remembered as an avid gardener who enjoyed tending to her extensive flower beds.  She and her husband had a passion for travel, taking trips around the world.  However, her greatest joy was caring for her 2 children and 5 grandchildren.  Ruth spent her life creating a home filled with grace and love.

Ruth’s faith in God was her upmost priority, living her life as a reflection of the Lord’s love to those around her.  She was an active member of Northgate Free Methodist Church and was blessed by the friendships and fellowship of that community.

Holding on to her memory is her husband of 37 years, Mark Logan; son, Tyler (Rebecca) Logan; daughter, Elise (Shane) Fraser; brothers, David (Barbara), Brad, Lance (Kathy); and 5 beautiful grandchildren, Jack, Evelyn Grace, Henry, Callie and Banks.  Friends may call on Friday, January 28th from 4-7 pm at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Avenue, Bergen.  A celebratory Memorial Service of Ruth’s life will take place at Pearce Memorial Church on Sunday, January 30th at 1:30pm, 4322 Buffalo Road, North Chili, NY 14514.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Diversity Initiatives Fund at Roberts Wesleyan College, 2301 Westside Drive, Rochester, NY 14624.

   Louis (Lou/Louie) Andolora, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loved ones on January 15^th, 2022 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, and was the son of Margaret (Margie) Bower and Philip Andolora.

Lou was a lifelong resident of LeRoy and Batavia, NY, Lou was a Tax Advisor, operating Andoll Enterprises, serving Genesee County and Western New York for over 49 years.  Louie was a hardworking man who would do anything for anyone; he was a great and loyal friend to many. All that knew him and loved him will miss him dearly.

Lou is predeceased by his mother Margaret (Margie) Bower and his father Philip Andolora. He is survived by his fiancée Melissa (Missy) Mowers, his life-long partner and the love of his life, his daughter Makayla Lynn Andolora, Miranda Mowers, Courtney Mowers and Grandchildren, Austin and Emaline, and siblings Kathy (Rick) Leas, Glen (Cheryl) Andolora, Sheila (John) Hollwedel, and Lisa (Duane) Prine and Matthew C. (Cindy) Tooker of MA, nieces and nephews and many, many loved ones and beloved friends.

Lou loved and cherished his family deeply, his daughter Makayla was his pride and joy, they enjoyed hunting together.  Lou was one very proud “Papa”, it brought him such joy and he cherished each and every visit with the kids. When the grandkids would call him “Papa” his face would light up the entire room.  Lou enjoyed spending time with family.

Gordon Diver age 62 of Pembroke passed away at the Premier Nursing Home in Batavia NY the afternoon of Friday January 14 2022. 

Gordon was born October 4th 1959 in Batavia NY.  He was married to the late Deborah Exford of Leroy NY who passed in 2013.    

Gordon was raised on the family farm in Pembroke NY with his siblings where he enjoyed riding recreational vehicles and working on them.  He also enjoyed being around the family diner (Dees) lending a helping hand when needed.   

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Sr. in 2008 and Delores Falker Diver in 2014, and a nephew Daniel E. King in 2021.

He is survived by his siblings; sister Linda and Timothy King, along with brother Lawrence Jr. and Kathleen Diver all of Pembroke, and brother Mark and Linda Diver of Erie, Pennsylvania.  Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Joseph J. Joyce, 68, of E. Pembroke, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. He was born on November 14, 1953 in Buffalo to the late James A. and Eileen (McCabe) Joyce. In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by his wife; Gail (Ewert) Joyce.

Joe was a United States Army Veteran, having served from 1971-2008 when he retired as a First Sergeant. He was a member of the 82^nd Airborne Division, Military Police, Medic and Combat Engineer units. He was an Independent Contractor in Iraq specializing in advanced weapons systems and was a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders of WNY. He worked for many years as a diesel mechanic for Syracuse Supply Co. in Tonawanda. He owned and operated All American Tree business as well. Joe was an avid skydiver in his spare time, and above all else a proud Papa who loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children; Eileen Peterson of Corfu and Neil (Olga) Joyce of Pittsford, siblings Nancy (late Bill) Finkney of Oakfield, Connie (Kevin) Hammond of Cuba, William (Susan) Joyce of E. Pembroke, Maureen (Dennis) Ryan of Batavia, James (Joann) Joyce of E. Pembroke, Karen (John) Zajak of Eden, Joanne (Jeff) Wenzel of Honeoye, Cathy (Joseph) Wasko of Chaffee and Eileen Slater of Batavia; granddaughters Alyssa (Charles), Payton, Olivia, Audrina, Alexandra, Christina, Natali, along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 2:00-5:00PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. Joe will be laid to rest in St. Patrick’s Cemetery at a later date.
