His goal was to make everyone smile, and “to just be happy.”

Harold “Harley” Harloff reunited with his wife in Heaven on Thursday, April  7, 2022.  He had celebrated his 97th birthday on March 1st with his family at his adopted home - Village Green Nursing Facility in LeRoy.

Harley had a unique way of “telling it like it is” without offending, and always with a smile.  He attended Lycoming College in Pennsylvania to become a preacher.  He transferred to Syracuse University to continue his studies; however, he lost his brother in World War II and came back to Batavia to operate the family farm with his father Bert and mother Annabelle.  Harley was very well known in the cabbage world and often visited the Fresh Express headquarters in Florida.  He also had side jobs, selling propane gas with his buddy Glen Lambein and an outdoor paint product plus a logging business.  Harley was a good provider for his family and a strong man of faith.  He sold the family farm to his friends at My T Acres when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and his son Gregg and grandson Stephen continue his legacy with the Call family today.  After recovery, he began a Lincoln Log business with his son Doug and enjoyed meeting people at the New York State Fair and throughout the region. 

Harley was a strong man of faith, and raised his family with integrity and Christian values.

Harley was active in the Batavia Sertoma Club, and fondly remembered the hours spent at the ice skating rink they created in a parking lot at John Kennedy School in Batavia.  He also was instrumental in the building of the First United Methodist Church building on Lewiston Road as a church Trustee, and volunteered with the youth to paint the inside of the building and mission work by harvesting squash to give to local food banks.  Harley was also active on the Grandview Cemetary Board of Directors and was often found supervising the grounds upkeep on the Clinton Street site, and volunteering to mow the lawn at the Methodist church Lewiston Road location.  His friend Dick Siebert tapped him to become a Genesee County Elections commissioner in the early 2000s, which he thoroughly enjoyed.  It was his way to give back to the community that had given him so much.  In the later years, Harley enjoyed his Saturday morning “Barber Conable” coffee meetings with the boys and appreciated their friendship.

Harley was a wonderful caregiver to the love of his life Jean Harloff.  He supported her as a schoolteacher and mentor to so many children in the Batavia area during her 37 ½ years in education, and cared for her in her final years.  Harley sold his home and move into Washington Towers, where he made many friends and enjoyed giving managers Vicki and Valerie a “hard time”.  Ill health forced Harley to move to LeRoy Village Green in May 2021 and he was given the dignity and care he deserved and needed. 

Harold Harloff is survived by his children, Gregg (Susan) Harloff of Batavia, Marilyn (Todd) Helming of Amherst and Douglas (Judy) Harloff of Oakfield.  Grandchildren Stephen (Luis), Harloff , Geoffrey Harloff and Erika (Robert) Waver, Katie (Matt) McCracken of Batavia, Joshua (Katie) Harloff of Oakfield, Emily (Adam) Drilling Weed of Orlando, FL, and Kristen Drilling of Batavia, also 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister Marjorie Long of Batavia and dear friend Beverly Gerkin and her daughter Dawn   His brother Donald and sister Ruth Higley Weber predeceased Harold.  His beloved wife Jean Harloff passed on April 9, 2009.  Sister in law Marjorie Harrower Spaulding, and brother in law Robert and Carol Harrower have predeceased Harley.

The family is very grateful for the patience and care given to Harley at the Village Green.

Calling hours are planned for Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 1:00 – 2:30PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020.  A 2:45PM Celebration of Life Service will follow visitation at the Funeral Home.  Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.

  Francis J. Amrhein, many knew him as either “Frank, Butch or Stach”, 76, of Attica, New York, passed away on March 23, 2022, at Rochester Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.  He was born November 1, 1945, in Buffalo New York, the son of the late Francis J. and Agnes M. (Kalieta) Amrhein.

Frank was a veteran of the United States Army and was later employed by and retired from Attica Prison as a New York State Correctional Officer.  He was a member of St. Vincent’s Church in Attica.

He is survived by his children, Michelle L. (Wes) Persun of PA, Frank J. (Erin) Amrhein and William M. (Maggie) Amrhein of SC; a brother, Dennis Amrhein of Depew; grandchildren Matthew, Quinten and Mara Persun, Deziree (Persun) Rosenberg, Reid and Emma Amrhein and Everly Amrhein; 1 great grandchild with another on the way as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Linda M. (Gorom) Amrhein; sisters Barbara Amrhein and Joan (Amrhein) Gajewski; brother-in-law Bernard (Cookie) Gajewski.

There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Francis’s life will be held at St. Vincent’s Church in Attica, NY and will be announced at a later date.

Corfu - Angelo Jekov passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. Angelo was born on February 1, 1959 to Jeliasko and Luigina R. Jekov in Buffalo, NY.

Angelo is survived by his wife, Christine; Mother, Rose; brother, Vincenzo; daughters, Luigina, Jacqueline, Tiffany and Kimberly; along with four grandchildren. Angelo worked at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo for 28 years before retiring with Medxcel in 2021. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family.

Friends and family are requested to join a memorial luncheon on Sunday, April 10th  at 2437 William Street, Cheektowaga  NY 14206 from 1 to 4 pm.

Corfu - Richard L. Hale, 74 of Corfu passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, (April 5, 2022) at his home in Corfu.

Mr. Hale was born February 27, 1948 in Batavia, a son of Norma (Foster) Hale of Batavia and the late LaVerne Hale.

Richard was a parishioner of Resurrection Parish, a veteran of the US Navy, and a retiree of Genesee Community College where he was a maintenance mechanic for 30-years. He was an avid model car enthusiast; attending car shows to both buy and sell model cars. He was a gifted carpenter and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is the husband of the late Sheila (Pribison) Hale. He is also preceded in death by his son, Jason C. Hale, and brother, Daniel Hale.

Surviving along with his mother is his daughter, Jacqueline (Douglas) Ferris of LeRoy; grandsons, Jacob Ferris and Trevor Pahl; sisters, Patricia Diaz of Batavia, and Margaret (Frank) Zambito of Elba. several nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends are invited to attend Richard 's Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Friday, (April 8th, 2022) from St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street in Batavia.  Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery with military honors will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. S. Byron ~ Lester G. Heins, age 95, a lifelong resident of South Byron, passed away at home on Monday morning, April 4, 2022.

     He was born August 20, 1926 in Rochester, NY, a son of the late Lester J. and Ethel Lansbury Heins.

     Lester was a U.S. Navy veteran, where he was a member of the Seabee Division.  He was a 74 year member of the LeRoy American Legion Post #576.  He and his father operated their own trucking business and farming operation in the Byron area, which he retired from driving at age 80 and continued to work around the family farm until age 92.

      He was a member of the Byron Fire Department for many years and also a member of the South Byron Methodist Church.

     He is survived by his son, Gerald Heins and daughter, Nancy Johnson, both of Byron; grandchildren, Todd Wade and Hillary Heins and his great-grandchildren, Skylar, Samantha, Hunter, Hallie, Colin and Brantley, along with many nieces and nephews.

     He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara J. Heins in 1989.

     There are no prior calling hours and a graveside service with military honors will be held at a future date in the Morganville Cemetery.

Bergen - Robert P. Fedele, 81 of Bergen, passed away on Friday, (April 1, 2022) at Unity Hospital in Rochester.

Mr. Fedele was born October 29th, 1940 in Rochester a son of the late John (late Sara) Fedele and Mary (Shelp) Fedele.

Robert was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and was well known in the area for is watch and clock collection as well as his ability to repair them. He also enjoyed collecting classic cars. A tinkerer, Robert could fix most anything and enjoyed spending time at the cabin he built himself in Conesus. He was a proud veteran of the Air Force and served the Village of Bergen as a Trustee for over five years.  

Robert is the husband of Judith (Volkmuth) Fedele of Bergen; father of Paul Fedele of Bergen, Carl Fedele of Bergen, and Theresa (Shawn Nowatchik) Fedele of Stafford; grandfather of J.P. Fedele, Sidney (Kyle) Sickles, Adysen Birge, Danyel Nowatchik, and Dru Nowatchik; great-grandfather of Fletcher Sickles; brother of Joseph (Linda) Fedele of Webster, Sr. Patricia Fedele I.H.M of Pennsylvania; brother-in-law of Jacqueline Fedele, and Debbie Fedele-DeCoste. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Gerald Fedele and John Fedele.

Batavia - Mary L. Saile, 82 of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Unity Hospital in Rochester.

Mrs. Saile was born Thursday, November 2nd, 1939 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Franklin Stocking and Alice Russell Stocking.

A member of Northgate Free Methodist Church, she was an avid reader and card player. She enjoyed camping and listening to music. She “adopted” many stray dogs and will be remembered by her family as their caretaker as she cared for her children and grandchildren.

Mary is the wife of Vernon Charles Coniber who passed away on May 20, 1960 and Lynford F. Saile who passed away on August 20, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Rev. Vernon (Debbie) Saile of Byron, Cindy (David) Landrum of Appomattox, Virginia and Lyndy (Late Robin) Branton of Byron; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Saile of Batavia; ten grandchildren; Ashley, Zachary, Christopher, Stephen, Peter, Danielle, Carissa, Jessica, Megan and Rebecca; six great-grandchildren; Ephraim, Brynn, Elijah, Bailey, Sophie and Collin along with a sister-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Joseph F. Saile who passed away on March 14, 2019 and her grandson, Matthew Saile who passed away on September 7, 1992.

Linda Gene DeWitt, Daytona Beach Shores, Florida passed away on March 31, 2022. Linda was born in Pavilion, NY, graduated from Pavilion Central School in 1966. She worked in her family business B.R. DeWitt, Inc. for many years.  Linda was preceded in death by her son Christopher, her mother Shirley, and her Dad Gene.

She is survived by her son Shannon (Angela) of Pavilion, grandchildren Zackary, Ryan, Trevor, and Kiara. Also her brother Byron and sister-in-law Jaime. Several nieces and nephews.

Mark Laverne Wetmore, age 56, of Sharon, PA, formerly of Pike, New York, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 in Sharon Regional Hospital.

Born July 14, 1965, in Pike, New York, he was the son of the late Eugene and Connie (Grisewood) Wetmore.

Mark graduated from Letchworth High School in 1983 and served his country honorably in the US Army during Desert Storm. He was a construction worker for several different companies through out his career. He was a Volunteer Fire Fighter for many years and in his spare time he enjoyed, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and his high quality, naps.

Mark is survived by two daughters, Nadine (Danny) Hose and Michelle (Sean) Kelly, two brothers, Lance Wetmore and Brian (Amy) Welsh, six sisters, Theresa Damonti, Gina (Dan) Worden, Becky (Scott) Kelley, Patty Bellucci and Yvonne Walcott, four grandchildren, Malayna, Gavin, Cash and Aubriella, his long time partner, Pam Schaller and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Annette and a brother-in-law Rudy.

An open memorial will take place on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Pike Firehall, starting mid day.

  Sue Ann Cole, 70, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Monday April 4, 2022. She was born in Batavia on April 22, 1951 to the late William and Avis (Putnam) Weinert. In addition to her parents, Sue is predeceased by her son: Jamirson Lee Cole who passed Nov. 24th, 2018; and her sister Ruth (Weinert) Genajon.

She is survived by her daughter; Christina (Chris) Ekonomidis of New York City; siblings Jo Ann Toal of Byron, Keith (Adeline) Weinert of Byron, Kirk (Kim) Weinert of Limestone, NY., Kevin (Robin) Weinert of Batavia, Cheryl (Greg) Richenberg of Holley, Karl (Marilyn) Weinert of Byron and Jacqueline Ilazi of Bergen; grandchildren Rachel Cole, Joseph Cole and Sofia Ekonomidis, along with many nieces and nephews.

Sue was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family and friends, and always cherished spending time with her beloved grandchildren. There are countless stories and wonderful memories for all of us to carry forward in loving memory of our beloved Mother, Friend, Grandmother, Aunt. A strong woman who lived her life with honor and kindness, she will be greatly missed.

Batavia, NY- Harold E. Nesbitt, 91, passed away on February 3, 2022.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nan, and 2 sons, David Nesbitt of Pavilion and Thomas (Melanie) Nesbitt of Byron and a grandson, Connor Nesbitt of Vermont as well as nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Morganville United Church of Christ, 8466 Morganville Road in Stafford, where Harold's Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. also on Saturday.  He will be laid to rest with military honors in Grandview Cemetery, Batavia.  At the conclusion of the services at Grandview Cemetery, all are invited to a reception at the Morganville United Church of Christ in the fellowship hall.

Lawrence James Simmons, 83, of Elba, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022.  He was born in Rochester NY on June 28, 1938 to the late John James Simmons and Hazel (Warburton) Simmons.

Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Anne (Peters) Simmons; five children, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; James (Patricia) Simmons of Churchville (Rob Simmons & Christine Guppenberger of Portland OR; & Dan Simmons & Amanda Lawson of Portland OR), Karen Simmons of Kennett Square PA., Linda (Rocco) Zambito of Elba (Rocco & Ashley Zambito of Los Angeles; Gianni & Kayla Zambito of LeRoy NY with Dominic, Maria, Gianna, Chiara and Leo; Luca Zambito of Rochester; Nico Zambito of Elba), Mark (Tammy) Simmons of Ballston Spa (Collin Simmons & Emily Toung of Schenectady; Noelle Simmons with Aliyah JM Simmons of Clifton Park NY) and Alan (April) Simmons of Melbourne FL (Michael Simmons & Hailey Blessing of Forth Worth Texas; Katelyn Simmons of Rochester; & Lydia Simmons of Melbourne FL). Larry is survived by his older sister, Vivian (Late Al) Kurt of Rochester NY and his younger sister Joan Markese of Martinsburg PA. Larry is also survived by his brother-in-law Richard (Meg) Peters; sisters-in-law Susan Peters; Mary (Charles) Schultz; and Kathi (Michael) DeBerger; along with many nieces and nephews.

Larry’s younger sister, Susan (Simmons) Martin died in 2019 with Alzheimer’s disease; as did his father, John James Simmons, in 2005. Larry was predeceased by his most blessed granddaughter, Danica Marie Zambito. 

Larry graduated from Edison Technical & Industrial High School in Rochester in 1957. He immediately began working with Rochester Telephone Co. as a frame man, then moved on to installing and repairing home phones, then repairing cable until his retirement in 1990. 

Larry served Our Lady of Fatima Church in Elba NY as Director of Religious Education. From 1992-2002, he also voluntarily maintained the Church property. In 1998 Larry was presented with the Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker by Bishop Mansell of Buffalo, in recognition of Larry’s outstanding, unselfish service to the Church.

On Saturday, April 9, 2022 services will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Elba. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 11 am to 12 pm at St. Padre Pio Parish, Our Lady of Fatima Worship Site, 65 South Main Street, Elba with his Mass of Christian Burial to follow immediately at 12 pm. Committal services follow at Maplelawn Cemetery, Elba.

Corfu - The biggest,  warmest,  most generous heart stopped when our devoted and loving  husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, George passed away on March 28, 2022, at age 84.

We have been forever blessed with such a kind and loving soul as our patriarch. He leaves behind generations who know his optimistic joyful love of life, which will live on in our own hearts for generations to come. 

Survived by his wife of 59 years, Earlotta, and children, Gregory (Andrea) Karam, Kristin (Thomas) Brown, Jeffrey Karam and Michelle (Thomas) Keilman, grandchildren: Kara, Marissa and Sarina Brown, Michael and Sophie Karam, Ryan, Georgina, Samuel, and Harrison Keilman, great-grandchildren: Joshua, Pierson Brown and Thomas Sugrue. 

Also survived by sisters MaryLouise and Patricia, and brothers Michael and Bernard. Preceded in death, parents Edmund and Mary (Kane) Karam, brother, Edmund and sisters, Shirley and Kathie.

After graduating from St. Mary’s School, Cortland, George attended St. Mary’s College, Maryland and SUNY Cortland. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. He lovingly provided for his family for 30 years as Sales Manager at Sexton, and in retirement, owned and operated The Union Hotel, Corfu NY. George was an active community member; Treasurer of both the Pioneer Mens’ Club and of St. Francis Social Club, he also served on the Village Board of Trustees and was a  Little League Coach for many years. 

A funeral mass will be held on April 23, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 18 West Main Street, Corfu. A luncheon will follow at 8656 Church Street, East Pembroke. A celebration of George’s life will continue that evening at his “Happy Place”. Flowers gratefully declined, instead, please bring your favorite memories of George.

In loving memory of Teresa (Tre) M. George age 65 from Oakfield New York now resting peacefully with our Lord. Teresa is survived by her daughter Nina (Tony) White, granddaughter Natalia and son Jerome George.  She was predeceased by her husband John J. George and brother Peter Severino.  Surviving family includes her parents Nicolo and Mary Severino and siblings Joseph (Sheri) Severino, Christine (Randy) Bow, Rosemary (Norm) Geiss, Maria (Darin) Waite, Nicholas (Robin) Severino, Rafaline (Greg) Shilvock, and Jerry (Dorine) Severino along with several nieces and nephews. Teresa graduated from McAuley School of Nursing in 1980. Teresa spent most of her career employed at Saint Jerome’s Hospital as an LPN forming lifelong friendships with fellow nurses. She also worked as a Home Health Care Aide.  Teresa, a nurse throughout her whole life, touch the lives of so many families especially caring for her own nephew Justin “Goose”. Teresa will always be remembered for her free spirit including her unique style in clothing and gift giving. She loved her music listening to local bands and classic rock of Fleetwood Mac and James Taylor.  Teresa loved her pets, often adopting and rescuing animals that others would turn away.  The family wants to express deepest gratitude to all those who cared for Teresa in her final days, especially Crystal and the Alabama Volunteer Fire Department.

Ola Jean Park, age 74, a lifetime resident of Pavilion, who later moved to Perry, NY, passed away on March 31, 2022, with her husband by her side.

   

  She was born on July 12, 1947, a daughter of the late Donald Sr. and Arletta Roblee. 

     Ola was Captain of the Pavilion Rescue Squad and was the first female firefighter of the Pavilion Fire Department.

     She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard Park Sr.; sons, Richard Jr. (Michelle) Park of Pavilion, Thomas (Payadie) Park of LeRoy and Donald (Kathy) Park of Pavilion; grandchildren, John (Amanda) Park, Alyssa Park, Kayla (Dylan) Wetzel, Kerisa Park, Melisa Park, Keegan Park, Trisha (Billy) Park, Zachary (Rachel) Park and Harley Jean Park; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Muehlig; brother, Donald Jr. (Lynne) Roblee; sister, Donna (Paul) Bernheisel, along with many nieces and nephews.

     She was also predeceased by her niece, Elizabeth Starr and brother-in-law, Gary Muehlig.

     Family and friends may call on Saturday, April 9 from 9:00 AM ~ 1:00 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd. (Rt. 19), LeRoy, where her Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 P.M.  Private family interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pavilion Fire Department.
