Hilda Mabel Graff

Hilda Mabel Graff, 89 of Attica, passed away peacefully on Monday (October 19, 2015) at the home of her daughter in Darien Center, NY.

She was born May 7, 1926 in Alexander, NY, daughter of the late Martin and Ellen Milcarek.

Hilda enjoyed being with her family, crocheting, puzzles, flowers, gardening, baking, canning and anything she could do in her kitchen. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was the wife of the late Harold E. Graff who died February 15, 2008, grandmother of the late James Zajaczkowski and sister of the late Ivor and Ronald Milcarek.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Frank Dahl) Graff of Darien Center and Jean (Joseph) Zajaczkowski of Alexander. Two sons, Dennis (Hailey) Graff of Pavilion and Harold E. Jr. (Bonnie) Graff of Alexander. Sister, Ellen Bessie Meier of Alexander.  Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Abby Lyon Avery Stone

Abby Lyon Avery Stone, 60, of Attica, passed away October 10, 2015 at her home surrounded by the love of her husband and three sons.  She was born December 10, 1954 in Eastport, Long Island to the late Alan (Helen Lyon) Avery Sr. 

Though cancer took her life, it could not dim her smile, nor mute her spirit; the love, kindness and compassion she shared with family and friends shined through every day in spite of it.  

Abby was the youngest of her three siblings: Debbie, Libby and Alan. She grew up in Union Springs, NY and was a graduate of Union Springs High School. She studied marine biology at Southampton College of Long Island University and then received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY where she did her thesis on the nesting habits of Pileated Woodpeckers. Abby and her husband Garry met at Camp Greenkill in Huguenot, NY where they were both counselor/naturalists and were married just seven months later on November 18, 1978. She worked as a special education aide in the Hudson Falls School System until the birth of her first child, Benjamin, in 1982.  She then became a full time mother devoting herself to the upbringing of her three boys. While in Hudson Falls, Abby and her husband, Garry, started the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society in Glens Falls, NY which is still active and functioning as a conservationist organization to this day. The family moved to Attica, NY in 1985 one week after the birth of their second son, Christopher, in order to be closer to family.  Her youngest son James was born in 1989 and after he enrolled in Prospect Elementary, Abby worked as a teacher assistant in the Attica School System for 17 years. Abby was an active birdwatcher and gardener.  She participated in numerous Christmas bird counts and Buffalo Ornithological Society counts and along with her husband completed the Master Gardener program with the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Genesee County.  She loved arts and crafts and specialized in driftwood Santa’s for Christmas.

She is survived by her loving husband Garry Stone of Attica; sons Benjamin and Christopher of Greece and James Stone of Rochester; siblings Alan (Kathleen) Avery Jr. of Toms River, Debbie (Wayne) Guenther of Batavia and Libby (John) Haus of Binghamton along with several nieces and nephews. 

There will be no prior calling hours. A 10:00AM Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church 115 Main St. Attica, NY 14011.

MARIE L. BARONE

MARIE L. BARONE

   Age 57, of Batavia, died Saturday October 17, 2015 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Batavia on February 8, 1958, to the late Nick and Janet (Borst) DelRe, also preceded in death by a brother, Nicholas DelRe.

   Marie worked for 35 years as a Pharmacy Tech at Kmart and also at Batavia Downs, she enjoyed camping and going to Broadway Shows. She was a kind, caring, quiet person who lived her life for family and her two beautiful children.

   Surviving are her beloved children, Christopher and Jennie Barone both of Batavia; brother, Joseph (Darlene) DelRe of TN, sister; Jeanette (Tim) Moore of Batavia; father & mother-in-law, Lawrence (Angeline) Barone of Batavia; sisters-in-law, Suzan (Vincent) Pellegrino of Stafford and Tina (Mark) Adams of Batavia along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends also survive.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

   Marie's family will be present from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday October 21 at the MICHAEL S. Howard E. Wellman

Pavilion ~ Howard E. Wellman, age 67, of Boyd Road, passed away early Monday morning (October 19, 2015) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

     He was born July 25, 1948 in Warsaw, a son of Betty A. Wellman and the late Lewis Wellman.

     Mr. Wellman was retired from Harris RF Communications.  He was a longtime member of the Pavilion United Methodist Church, served as Covington Town Justice and as a member of the Pavilion School Board.

     In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Sally Bryce Wellman; his children, Jayson Wellman of Rochester, Aaron Wellman of Corfu, Amy (Tristan) Jones of N.J., and Heather (Curtis) Bennion of N.C.; seven grandchildren;  his sisters, Deborah (James) Starr of Pavilion, Lucinda (Randolph) Starr of Pavilion and Ann (Duane) Stehlar of Alden; brother-in-law, William (Ernestine) Bryce of Pavilion, along with many nieces and nephews.

     Family and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday at 2:00  P.M. at the Pavilion United Methodist Church.  Interment in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, York, will be at the convenience of the family.

Mary C. Jensen

Mary C. Jensen, 66, of East Pembroke passed away October 17, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Batavia on August 31, 1949 to the late Edward (Marion Campbell) Carney.

She is survived by her beloved husband Richard Jensen; daughters Danielle (Johnny) Jensen-Rodriguez, Tracy Jensen, Marrick (Jeremy) Hale and Kelly Jensen; her 6 grandchildren Scout, Quinn, Lilyana, Trey, Gunner and Ohlson; brothers Edward (Lesley) Carney and Paul (Laurel) Carney.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved dog Sammy.

Dorothy T. McHale

Dorothy T. McHale, 91 of Lancaster and formerly of New Smyrna Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday (October 16, 2015) at Greenfield Health & Rehabilitation Center in Lancaster, NY.

She was born July 5, 1924 in Binghamton, NY, a daughter of the late Stephen and Ludmilla Konecny Viskocil.

Dorothy was employed by Chrysler Corp. in Syracuse prior to her retirement.

She was predeceased by her husband Martin McHale in 1992.
Survivors include seven nieces, Barbara (Bernard) Thoma of Akron, NY, Joyce (James) Gentile of Endwell, NY, Kathleen Kifer of Maryland, Joan Viskocil of Woodstock, NY, Mary Ann Viskocil of Woodstock, NY, Carolyn (William) Licata of Lockport, NY and Tina (Michael) Cartusciello of Rockville Centre, NY. Nephew, Joseph (Marie) Viskocil of Hockessin, DE. Two sisters in-law, Wanda Viskocil of Woodstock, NY and Sandra McHale of Central Square, NY.

There will be no prior visitation. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday (Oct. 21st), 11:00am at St. Teresa of Avila R.C. Church, 5779 Buell St., Akron. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt, NY.

Ralph H. Clarke

Ralph H. Clarke went to be with his Lord on October 13, 2015. Ralph was born to William and Ruth Campbell Clarke on February 13, 1924 in the City of Buffalo.  He served as an American Citizen in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII.  Ralph retired from General Motors, Tonawanda in 1985,  completing a career as a Pattern Maker at the engine plant.  Ralph took great pleasure and pride in remodeling his homes in both Corfu and, later, Florida. As an avid outdoorsman, Ralph enjoyed gardening, golfing, hunting and fishing.  Always smiling and joking, Ralph enjoyed his life to the fullest and, even in his later years, never complained even as his health declined.  

He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife Jane, as well as his brothers Frederick Clarke, Robert Clarke, Ronald Clarke and Alan Clarke.  He is survived by his brother William Clarke, daughters Pamela (Claude) Griffith, Ruth (William) Lang, sons Ralph A. Clarke, and Roy Clarke.  He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah Griffith, Matthew (Ashlee) Lang, Andrew (Monica) Lang, Renee (Jeremy) Peters, Ralph (Khrystina) Clarke, Christopher Clarke and Jennifer Clarke as well as 5 great grandchildren.  Ralph is also survived by his dear friend and caretaker Kyle Couchman.  

There will be no calling hours but friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating Ralph’s life on October 17th, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Alexander United Methodist Church, 10540 Main Street, Alexander, NY 14005. Steven Witkop

Steven Witkop, 49, of Batavia passed away Monday October 12, 2015 at his home.He was born September 30, 1966 in Batavia, New York to Artur Veltz of Batavia and the late Carol (Witkop) Veltz.

Steven enjoyed cooking and was an avid collector.

He is survived by siblings Donald (Patti) Stanley of Basom, Julie (Jeff) Clay of Middleport; nieces and nephews Nicholas, Jason, Sara Stanley; Krista (Josh) Coash, Timothy Clay along with great-niece and nephew Emma and Parker Coash.

Marlene M. Quinn

Marlene M. Quinn passed away on October 7, 2015 at the age of 69 at home with family.

She was survived by her husband Merle G. Quinn for 51 wonderful years and her four children Shawn M Quinn (H.Bruce Henning), Lisa A Gimlin (Ronald L Worthington), Timothy A Quinn and Kevin L Quinn (Tanya Quinn) and her siblings a brother Jim Janish (Debbie Janish), Linda Janish(Mike Strobel), Marcia Gorny (Paul Gorny); two granddaughters and two grandsons; one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews and many many friends.

Paula M. Vickery

Paula M. Vickery, 60, of Attica passed away peacefully Wednesday October 7, 2015 at her home with her loving family after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Buffalo to the late Salvatore (Paula Franci) Lorigo. She is preceded in death by her brother Robert Rosenblatt.

Paula was a teacher’s aide with both the Attica and the Alexander School Districts.  Beyond her love of her grandchildren, family, and friends, Paula was an avid crafter, gardener, and loved by many. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Edward “Ted” Vickery of Attica; son Robert (Andi Rothfuss) Vickery of Batavia; brother Carl (Betty) Rosenblatt of Corning; sister Rose (Joseph) Goren of Cheektowaga, Carol Keiser; sisters-in-law Deborah (Michael) Buckenmeyer of Attica, Sharon (David) Eaton of Lake Havasuaz; brother-in-law Robert (Trudy) Vickery of Clifton Park, along with 3 grandchildren Lucas, Alyssa and Payton Vickery and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Shirley A. Turner

Shirley A. Turner, 83, of Batavia, passed away on Saturday (October 10, 2015) at the New York State Veteran's Home in Batavia.

Shirley was born October 29, 1931 in Camden, ME, a daughter of the late Carroll and Geneva (Dow) Fuller.

She was a member of the South Byron United Methodist Church, Senior Center Quilters and Quota International.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and bird watching.  Shirley was a registered nurse at Genesee Memorial Hospital and for Dr. Burak.

Survivors include her children, Randy (Patricia) Turner of Batavia, Rodney (Cindy) Turner of Corfu and Suzanne (Kevin) Dart of Elba; a sister, Evelyn Capps of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She is the wife of the late Robert G. Turner and sister of the late Mildred Smith.  

Calling hours are Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia.  Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia.

Douglas Lee Brown

Douglas Lee Brown, of Attica, NY passed away on October 8, 2015 at the age of 79 after a long illness.  Douglas was born on September 4, 1936 to Lyle and Etta Kidder-Brown of Alexander, NY, where he grew up and attended high school.
 
During their life together, Doug and Sandy lived in several places: Batavia, Attica,Florida, North Carolina, but settled back in Attica in the 1980s.  Not only did they reside in several places, Doug and Sandy loved to travel.  They travelled Europe before the 9/11 tragedy and visited every state in the country, with the exception of Washington and Oregon.  Doug was a former member of the Attica Lions Club, a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and of the Rochester Bricklayer’s Union Chapter # 3 from which he retired in the year 2000.  He had a great passion for golf and was a member of the Attica Golf Club for 48 years and experienced several golf trips with family and friends.  Doug enjoyed being outside and caring for his yard, in addition to keeping fit, as he spent many years exercising at the YMCA before his illness. Doug is survived by his wife of 57 years Sandra (Spohn) Brown; brother Charles (Kay), sister Phyllis; three children, Alan (Tina), Gregory (Katherine), and Amy (Michael) Brotherton; as well as 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 
 
A Memorial Service will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church 75 Main Street Attica, New York 14011 at 11 am on Monday October 12, 2015.

Rodney F. Winkstern

Rodney F. Winkstern, 82, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Thursday October 8, 2015 at Buffalo General Hospital. He was born December 24, 1932 in South Alabama, New York to the late Floyd (Minnie Radunz) Winkstern. He is predeceased by his wife Delores (Moore) Winkstern.

Rodney was a United States Army Veteran and served in Korea.  Upon his return home, Rodney rejoined his father to help manage the F.B. Winkstern & Son John Deere Dealership in Oakfield where he sold skidoos, snowmobiles and lawn mowers, but one of his proudest accomplishments was starting Del-Mar Farms, Inc. In his later years, Rodney traveled thousands of miles across the United States to visit family and friends. Rodney was never shy about expressing his opinions. Rodney was an animal lover, as well as a member of the Masons, and the Alabama American Legion.

He is survived by his children Calvin (Joyce) Winkstern of Batavia, Rhonda Winkstern of Lyndonville, Rustin (Lael) Winkstern of Georgetown, TX, Floyd “Beaver” (Mary) Winkstern of Batavia; special friend Maura Dibble of Batavia; grandchildren Tara (Jason) Baldwin, Troy Winkstern, Kendall Winkstern, Sara “Sadie” Winkstern, Anna Winkstern, Cameron Winkstern, Chase Winkstern; his dog Buddy, along with many nieces and nephews.  

Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Please join the Winkstern family on Sunday October 11, 2015 for a 2:00 PM Celebration of Life at Hickory Ridge Golf & Country Club 15816 Lynch Rd. Holley, NY 14470. He will be laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery in East Pembroke.

Bobby Woodhouse

Bobby Woodhouse, 56, of West Middlebury passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday October 8, 2015 at his home. He was born June 28, 1959 in Batavia, New York to the late Bob Woodhouse and Jeanne P. (Ficarella) Woodhouse of Batavia.

Bobby was an avid outdoorsman and motorcycle enthusiast. He especially loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. Bobby had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved his dogs, but above all else Bobby loved his family.

He is survived by his daughters Rochelle of Rochester, Jessica of Naples, FL, Kasey of East Bethany, and Morgan Woodhouse of Naples, FL; companion LuAnne Rapone of West Middlebury; brother John (Julie) Woodhouse of St. Cloud; sisters Dawn Woodhouse of Attica, Shannon (Danny) Ford of Alexander; grandchildren Dawson Warner of East Bethany, Arianna O’Neil of West Middlebury, along with many nieces and nephews.

James J. Sulzbach

James J. Sulzbach, 68 of Akron, passed away unexpectedly on Monday (October 5, 2015) at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

He was born November 18, 1946 in Buffalo, NY, a son of the late Walter and Lorraine Albach Sulzbach.

He was the owner of Jim and Bob’s Auto Service in Akron. Jim enjoyed racing and at one time raced at Lancaster Speedway.  He also enjoyed hunting in his spare time.

Survivors include his former wife, Theresa Burdick Coakley. Special companion, Patricia Byerly. Daughter, Deborah (Kenneth Hallman) Jurek of Akron. Grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Cwiklinski, Melanie (Justin) Wojcik, Matthew, Michael, Nicholas, Noelle, Courtney, Vincent and James Jurek. Great-grandchildren, Noah and Eleanore. Niece, Amy (Jack) Grainy. Nephew, Scott (Jen) Sulzbach.  Several cousins also survive.

Jim was predeceased by his brother, Robert Sulzbach.
