DAVID MARAGLIANO

Oakfield - David Maragliano, age 71, of Oakfield, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Buffalo General Hospital.

Mr. Maragliano was born on July 25, 1944, in Buffalo, a son of the late Angelo and Viola Schwartzmeyer Maragliano.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he owned and operated Maragliano Construction in Oakfield.

He is survived by his wife Carol Fischer Maragliano, whom he married on July 13, 1963; his children, William D. (Donna) Maragliano, Sr. of Basom and Laura Maragliano of Oakfield; three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; his brother, Dennis Maragliano of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where his services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Edna Mae Cummings

Edna Mae Cummings, 92 of Wolcottsville NY, went home to be with her Lord on November 25, 2015 at the Brothers of Mercy Rehabilitation & Care Center/Hospice Buffalo.

She was born on April 19, 1923 in the town of Royalton, NY and was the youngest daughter of (10) to the late Rose (Handrich) & Rudolph Frisch of Wolcottsville, NY.

Edna was a homemaker, and later had a career in food processing with RJR Foods, Inc. in Lockport, NY until her retirement.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Hunts Corners.  

She was the wife of the late Leverne E. Cummings, who died February 8, 1996.

She is survived by one sister, Ruth Harold (97) of Medina, NY and 6 children, Dale (Rebecca) Cummings, Larry (Linda) Cummings, Clifford (Marilyn) Cummings, Jack (Roberta) Cummings, Gloria Cummings, and Claudia (Timothy) Hurne.   Edna was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Family and friends are cordially invited to call on the family Monday (November 30, 2015) from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 32 John St. Akron, NY.  A Celebration of Edna’s life will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday (December 1, 2015) at 10:30 am, with burial following at Pioneer Cemetery, on Hunts Corners Rd, Clarence.

Robert J. Stegura Sr.

Robert J. Stegura Sr. 71, of Sheldon, a local mechanic, passed away on Wednesday November 25, 2015 at his home. He was born on June 6, 1944 in Buffalo to the late Charles and Emma (Schiffler) Stegura.  In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his brother Charles Stegura.

Robert was a beloved father and is survived by his children; Janice Marie (Sam) Zimblis, Robert (Michelle) Stegura Jr.; grandchildren Ken (Anne) Powers, Sara Powers and Sandra Powers; great grandchildren Kenny Powers and Mason Giles; Uncle Ed (Jean) Schiffler along with several nieces and nephews.

Randy Scott Schuld

Randy Scott Schuld, 57, died November 5, 2015. He was born in North Tonawanda, NY and was employed as an audio engineer at National Audio in Baldwinsville for 3 years and most recently for I.A.T.S.E. Local 9 for the past 15 years. He was predeceased by his father, Ralph J. Schuld. Survived by his wife, Vincenza M. Marchese of Parish NY; his mother, Marilyn Scott-Schuld, -Britton of Attica, NY; his sisters, Diane (Robert) Franczak of Myrtle Beach, SC, Karen (Peter) Haen of Depew, NY and Wende (Dave) Reiner of Attica, NY. RICHARD JOHN DOWNS

   Age 53, of Elba, died Monday November 23, 2015. He was born in Batavia on July 7, 1962, to Clarence (Vickie) Downs of Elba and the late Linda (Farren), also preceded in death by granddaughters, Destiny and Jasmine Lowe.

   Richie was a mechanic for many years, enjoyed working on cars, going to the races, watching NASCAR, loved his cat, "Growler" and most of all spending time with family and friends.

   Surviving along with his parents, sons, Richard (Abby) Lowe of Albion, Garrett Downs; daughter, Dina (Joe) Forone of Lyndonville; brothers, Carl J. Downs and James C. Downs both of Elba and his sister, Shawn (Daniel) Hargrave of Batavia; grandchildren, Richard Lowe, Jr., Baylee Mae Lowe, Ariana Bernal, Leo Poldo Bernal and Jayden Johnston; nieces/nephews, Krystle (Daniel) Robinson, Mikaela Frasier, Carl Amesbury, Triton Drock along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        The family will be present from 6-8pm Friday November 27 at the MICHAEL S. Betty M. Bauer

Betty M. Bauer, 92, of Batavia passed away Sunday November 22, 2015 at Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born May 30, 1923 in Attica, New York to the late Harry (Esther Bey) Spring. She is preceded in death by her husband John Bauer, brother Earl Spring, sister Eleanor Beaver.

Mrs. Bauer worked as a Secretary at Attica Correctional Facility for many years and worked alongside her husband John on the family farm. She loved to bowl, golf and was an avid card player. Betty was a longtime member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish in Attica.

She is survived by her sister Barbara Spring of Batavia; sister-in-law Dorothy Keizer of Alexander; nieces and nephews Gary Caccamise, Marilyn (David) Grinnell, Jack (Carrie) Caccamise, Mary Ellen (Greg) Lewis, Kathy (Joe) Trigilio; great nieces and great nephews Chad (Wendy) Caccamise, Greg Grinnell, Melanie Grinnell, Rick Lewis, Ryan Lewis, Christian Caccamise, Aaron Caccamise, niece-in-law and friend Nancy Alfes, along with several great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Joseph C. O'Geen

Stafford ~ Joseph C. O'Geen, age 75, of Main Road, passed away Sunday evening (November 22, 2015) at Strong Memorial Hospital in the presence of his loving family.

    

 He was born December 2, 1939 in Batavia, a son of the late Cosimo and Antoinette Filio O'Geen.

     Joe will be remembered by his family as a very caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.  He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish, a veteran of the US Army and enjoyed collecting coins and model cars.

     He will be forever missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret Yacuzzo O'Geen; his children, Christine (William) Carr of LeRoy, Joseph (Cherie) O'Geen of Davie, FL, Lynn O'Geen of LeRoy and Jennifer (Thomas) DeMarco of Caledonia; grandchildren, Jesselyn Carr, Shelbi O'Geen, Dustin Carr, Ashley O'Geen, Noah, Abby and Avery DeMarco; sisters, RoseAnn Donohue of LeRoy and Carm O'Geen of LeRoy; sister-in-law, Janet O'Geen of Batavia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sam (Felicia) Yacuzzo of Jacksonville, FL, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.  In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother, Russell "Satch" O'Geen.

Marvin A. Chamberlain

Marvin A. Chamberlain, 87, of Oakfield passed away Saturday November 22, 2015 at Crossroads House in Batavia. He was born August 4, 1928 in South Alabama, New York to the late Arthur and Alta (Wickham) Chamberlain. He is preceded in death by his wife Janice (Boyce) Chamberlain; son Larry Chamberlain; son in law Kenneth Gardner; brother Milford Chamberlain; step brother Robert Chamberlain and grandson Cory Gardner.  

Marvin worked as a mechanic for Comstock Foods for over 30 years, he was a member of the Oakfield Lions Club and the Historical Society of Oakfield.

He is survived by his children; James Chamberlain, Kathy Gardner and Debbie Chamberlain all of Oakfield; sister Nancy (Albert) Neibel of Byron; step brothers Roger Chamberlain of S. Alabama, John (Donna) Chamberlain of Albion; Step sister Beverly (Al) Higgins of Oakfield and step sister in law Benay Chamberlain of Batavia; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Clara M. Tiberio

Clara M. Tiberio, 80, of Batavia passed away Saturday November 21, 2015 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born September 2, 1935 in Akron, New York to the late Enrico and Mary (Falsioni) DeSanti. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Anthony J. Tiberio Sr.  

Mrs. Tiberio enjoyed cooking shows, puzzles and was an avid reader. She was a cat fanatic, always donating to the SPCA and Disabled American Veterans. Clara was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Church.

She is survived by her daughter Ann Pokornowski of Batavia; Son Anthony Tiberio Jr. of Florida; grandchildren Anthony D. (Tricia) Tiberio of NYC, Christi (fiancé Dan Noble) Pokornowski of Xenia, OH and Erik Pokornowski of Batavia; sisters Elaine Mangani of Clarence and Laura (Dorran) Vogler of Indiana, along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A 9:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday November 25, 2015 at Ascension Parish 15 Sumner St. Batavia, New York 14020.  She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Russell E. Gillett

Batavia - Russell E. Gillett, 87, formerly of Byron and Perry died Friday, November 20, 2015 at the New York State Veteran's Home, in Batavia following a brief illness.

Mr. Gillett was born January 27, 1928 in LeRoy, the son of the late Clayton F. (Pete) and Maysel Beth (Boatfield) Gillett.

In 1952 he joined his father in operating Gillette Hardware Store in South Byron, purchased the business in 1958 and moved the store to Byron where it is presently located.

He was a graduate of South Byron High School and was the point guard on the South Byron Varsity Basketball team that was Section V, Class C Champions in 1945.  He played basketball with both the South Byron and Byron town  basketball teams until 1955.

Rusty, as most people knew him, was the youngest person to be elected Supervisor of the Town of Byron in 1955. Supervisors, at that time, were not only the chief fiscal officer of the town, but represented the town at the county level as a member of the Genesee County Board of Supervisors.  Rusty served as chairman of that board for 2 terms and as supervisor for 12 years until the Board of Supervisors became the Genesee County Legislature.  He then served 9 years as a Genesee County Legislator representing the towns of Byron, Bergen and Elba.  During his tenure at legislature he served two terms as it Chairman.

A veteran of WWII, he served with the US Army from 1945 to 1947. Rusty belonged to many community and  civic organizations.  He was a Past President and life member of the South Byron Fire Department, member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, member of the Sackett, Merrill, White Post #575 American Legion, past master of Hesperus Masonic Lodge #837 in Bergen, 32nd degree Mason and member of Damascus Temple of the Perry Shrine Club.

In 1968, he and 36 other men from Byron formed the Kiwanis Club of Byron.  He served as Chapter President and was Past Lieutenant Governor of the Genesee Division of New York District of Kiwanis International.  He attended both the Congregational Church of Perry and the South Byron Methodist Church.  He enjoyed bowling and golfing at the Silver Lake Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary L. (Churchill) Gillett whom he married in 1993.  Also surviving are one son,  David R. (Sue Ann) Gillett;  two sisters, Barbara (Robert) Bedson and Sandra (late Glenn) Elliott; Step-children, Mary Jo (Carl) Penna-Cook and Stephen (Michelle) Penna; grandchildren, Brent (Bree) Gillett, Peter (Becca) Gillett, Meghan (Josh) Bromley, Kari Psomas, Emma Psomas, Nicholas Penna, Daniella Penna and great-grandchildren, Mia & Madox Gillett.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 pm to 4 pm at the H. E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia, where services will be held Monday at10:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow at the Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kiwanis Club of Byron.

Loraine Batchelor Stipp

Loraine Batchelor Stipp, of Corfu, NY, born May 8, 1928, died November 7, 2015, at the age of 87. Loraine was the wife of the late Roy E. Batchelor (died 1995) and Robert A. Stipp (died 2011). She was the loving mother of Susan (Daniel) Yox, (late Jeffrey), John, and Mark (late Sandi) Batchelor. Cherished grandmother of Ben Toth, James and Emily Yox, and Austin and Chase Batchelor. Loraine was the youngest of 6 children; only one survives her, Nelson Cronin, of Alden, NY. She has many loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends in the Corfu community who enriched her life. She was a long-time member of the Corfu Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and on a number of church committees, spanning many decades. In the past, she was also active as a member of the Auxiliary of the Corfu Volunteer Fire Department. Graveside services will be private. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family at the Corfu United Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall, 63 Allegheny Street, Corfu, NY, on Friday, November 20, from4-7 PM. There will also be a memorial service on Saturday, November 21, at 11 AM, at the church to celebrate Loraine’s life. Boris "Pop" Tkatschenko

Boris “Pop” Tkatschenko, 86, of Alexander passed away in his home on November 16,  2015. He was born in The Ukraine on April 10, 1929.  Boris is predeceased by his wife Walburga (Dietrich) Tkatschenko.

Boris worked in New Jersey building oxygen machines until his retirement in 1994, bringing his love for building and fixing with him as he and his wife Wally moved to upstate New York. With a watchful eye and a lovingly stern word Boris watched over his grandchildren through the years and in his later years grew more loving and sweet with every passing day. He also loved cooking, fishing, caring for his gardens, tinkering, building things in his basement workshop and meals with his family. He and his wonderful Ukrainian accent will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his 4 children; Daniel (Kim) Tkatschenko of Attica, Boris Jr. Tkatschenko and Heidi (James) Knight both of Bound Brook, NJ and Vera (Kendall) Nodes of Warsaw; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Denise E. (Green) Fugle

Denise E. (Green) Fugle, 66, of Darien Center passed away Saturday November 14, 2015 at her home while surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with leukemia. She was born on April 5, 1949 in Buffalo to the late Leigh Richard and Dorothy Loretta (Bohadlo) Green.

Denise served faithfully upon the Attica Central School Board of Education from 1988 to 2003, former Trustee for the Attica Landmark Preservation Society, and as Trustee of the Brainard Cemetery Association (Attica, NY).  She was an excellent cook, loved antiquing, a hot cup of tea, and was fiercely dedicated to her family and friends.  Now, Denise is at rest and we hold her close within us.  Please hold her close in your mind, spirit, and memories as well. 

She is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart Lawrence “Larry” J. Fugle who she married in April of 1969 in Attica and together they raised seven children; sons Brian of Attica and Dustin of Varysburg; daughters Teresa (David) Remington of Attica, Shannon (Jason) Hootman of Darien, Jolene (Jesse) Coots of Le Roy, Amanda (Ryan) Markwith of New York City and Lacey (Shawn) Hyman of N. Java; brother Bruce (Sue) Green of Lancaster; proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren; Spencer, Alexis, Parker, Owen, Jayden, Cricket, Trilly, Souly Etta, Larissa, Beau and Liesel.

Shirley Mae Conrad

Elba - Shirley Mae Conrad, 86, of Elba, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at her home in Elba under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Mrs. Conrad was born January 3, 1929 in Warsaw, a daughter of the late George Merlin and Maude Amelia Raupp Stowe.

Her family was the center of her life. Her greatest enjoyment was her grandchildren and attending their sporting events. She loved traveling with many trips to Europe and across the United States, with her favorite trip being traveling to Hawaii with her daughter. She loved painting ceramics with her daughters, square dancing, bowling, playing cards and dominoes with friends.

She had many careers throughout her life. She met her late husband Robert while working at GTE Sylvania in Batavia. She enjoyed her job, customers and co-workers at the former Fay's Drug Store.

Her husband, Robert L. Conrad, passed away on January 3, 2004.

She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (James) DiCasolo of Elba and Michelle (Jeffrey) Rath of Churchville; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Lindsay) DiCasolo of Scottsdale, Pennsylvania and Meggan DiCasolo of Batavia; two great-grandchildren, Reece DiCasolo of Scottsdale, Pennsylvnaia and  Finn Davies of Batavia and nieces and nephews also survive.

She is the sister of the late Arlie Slusarczyk.

Timothy P. Allen

Elba - Timothy P. Allen, 53, of Elba, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Allen was born July 11, 1962 in Batavia, a son of Dorothy Panek Allen of Elba and the late Bernard T. Allen, Sr.

A lifetime member of the Elba Fire Department, Tim selflessly donated his time annually to the Onion Fest cooking in the hot dog stand. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was a member of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.). He loved tinkering in his garage, camping, gardening with his late daughter Heather and had a great passion for cooking and barbecuing on the grill.

He will be remembered by his family for his fantastic sense of humor and his loving and affectionate manner.

Surviving along with his mother are his beloved wife, Sherri Haight Allen, whom he married September 25, 1982; his daughter, Meghan (George Conley) Allen of Lancaster; his son, David P. (Shannon Pennington) Patterson, III of Raleigh, North Carolina; two brothers, Bernard T. (Rebecca) Allen, Jr. and Terry (Kate) Allen, both of Elba; sisters-in-law, Patrice (late Curt) Haight of Batavia, Shelly (Keith) Weaver of Franklin, Pennsylvania, Sandra (Doug Williams) Denniston of Maine and Jill Anderson of Lovett, Texas; his brother-in-law, Mike (Deanna) Pieniaszek of Albion; his father-in-law, Stanley (late Donna) Pieniaszek of Albion along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Tim is reunited in Heaven with his daughter Heather Marie Allen who passed away on February 25, 2008 and his furry canine companions, D.O.G.I.E. and Jasmine.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia, where members of the Elba Fire Department will gather at 6 p.m. for a fireman’s service. Tim’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia with Fr. Thaddeus Bocianowski, rector of Padre Pio Parish officiating. He will be laid to rest in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Elba Fire Department, P.O. Box 58, Elba, New York 14058.
