ALLEN L. HAGEN ~ Age 91, of Oakfield, died Thursday November 14, 2019 at Rochester General Hospital following a brief 3-day illness. He was born in Batavia, NY on October 7, 1928, a son of the late Lester and Hazel (Tooley) Hagen also preceded in death by a brother, William Hagen, nephew, James Hagen and brother-in-law, Carl Harrington.

Mr. Hagen served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Oakfield United Methodist Church since 1961 and was an over 30-year employee of the New York State Thruway Authority. He enjoyed square dancing, farming and tractors and was a member of the Empire State Oliver Collectors Club. His life was devoted to hard work, family and the love of his life, Leota, whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage with on July 23, 2017, renewing their vows in church and a family reception at LeRoy Country Club

Survived is his beloved wife of 72 years, Leota (Bluman) Hagen of Oakfield; loving daughters, Laurel (Hon. Eric) Adams of Oakfield and their children, Sean Adams of Oakfield, Leif (Andrea) Adams of Oakfield and Kari (Victor) Luis of Norwalk, CT; Cheryl (Stephen) Nichols of Pavilion and their children, Michelle (Adam) Martocello of Rochester, Mark Nichols of Batavia, James (Melanie) Nichols of Columbia, SC; Crystal (Dr. Frank Pignatelli) Hagen of Rochester and their children, Matthew (Brynn) Mayback of Seattle, WA, Jonathan (Mandy) Mayback of Rochester, NY, Nathan (Maureen) Maycheco of Aurora, CO and Janelle (Paul) Burk of Corinth, MS; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Sally Robbins of Fairport; sister-in-law, Laura Hagen of Stafford; several nieces, nephews and four legged companions, Honey Bear & Mr. Kitty. 

The Hagen family will be present from 6-8p.m. on Monday November 18 and 11-1p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 19, 2019 at the Oakfield United Methodist Church 2 South Main Street Oakfield, NY 14125 where funeral services will commence at 1p.m. Mr. Hagen will be laid to rest in Cary Cemetery and in lieu of flowers memorials in his memory are suggested to the church or the Oakfield Volunteer Fire Department.

BATAVIA - Guy F. Young, 83, of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo.

Guy was born August 15, 1936, in North Tonawanda, the son of the late Frederick and Lora (Warner) Young.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and worked a cook at the V.A. Medical Center in Batavia.

He is survived by his wife, Carol A. (Smith) Young, whom he married on May 10, 2002; 3 daughters, Linda (Carlyle) Bump and Kim (Robert) Barkley both of Batavia and Rebecca Gualtiere of Canandaigua; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

Friends may attend service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at City Church, 210 E. Main St. in Batavia, with the Rev. Martin Macdonald officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Guy’s name to City Church, 210 E. Hilda Dylag, 84 of Corfu, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (November 12, 2019) at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born September 22, 1935 in Depew, NY, a daughter of the late Charles and Hilda Nagy Guenther.

She was employed by Pixley’s Market prior to her retirement and was a longtime member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Corfu. Hilda will always be remembered enjoying life, smiling, dancing, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and extended family. Hilda was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and bowler. She enjoyed walking every day and playing cards with family and friends. Hilda was well known for her generosity and love of sharing her placek and pierogi with family and friends.

She was the wife of the late Henry A. Dylag, who died May 18, 2014 and mother of the late Henry John Dylag; sister of the late Charles (Rose) Guenther, Jane (Richard) Trykowski, Donald (Mary Lou) Guenther, Jack Guenther, Thomas Guenther. Sister in-law of the late Richard Nunz .

Survivors include her children, Linda (David) Yohn of Corfu, Donald (Joan) Dylag of Indian Falls, Michael (Shelly) Dylag of Attica, Jane (William) Bergmann of Clarence and Robert Dylag of Corfu. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Siblings, Gail Nunz and Robert (Sandra) Guenther and longtime family friend, Rose Marie Janik.

Jesslyn Lauren Elliott, 56 of Pavilion, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning (November 13, 2019).

She was born July 22, 1963 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Gerald E. Cox Sr. and Carolyn L. Cox.

Jessie was a vital participant amongst the Pavilion youth baseball program for over 2 decades and was an active member of the PTO for Pavilion Elementary School. She also overwhelmed many people with her baking and kindness. Jessie enjoyed camping, baking, time with her grandchildren, family and of course the “Girls Trips”.

Surviving besides her mother are her children, Joshua (Carley) Elliott, David Elliott, Ian (Kyle) Elliott and Austyn Herbert.  Grandchildren, Micayla, Brayden, Landyn, Brooklyn, Seth, Evan and Aubrey. Siblings, Tracy (Mike) Fitch, Kathryn (Dale) McBride, Gerald (Brenda) Cox, Jr. and Ronald (Angie) Cox.

Oakfield -Dora (Nanni) Genesky, 92, of Oakfield passed away peacefully on November 12, 2019 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief stay. 

Dora was born on October 24, 1927 in South Alabama, New York, the daughter of the late Enrico and Filomena (DeNofrio) Nanni, Italian immigrants. 

Dora is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Robert Genesky; her children; Derek (Elizabeth Balbick) Genesky of Batavia, New York; Martin (Judi Fischbach) Genesky of Alpharetta, Georgia; John (Terry Agro) Genesky of Kenmore, New York; Bruce (Patricia Heckathorn) Genesky of Holland, Michigan; and Donna Genesky of Kenmore, New York; six grandchildren, Geoffrey Genesky, Eric Genesky, Lauren Genesky, Derek Comer, Christian Genesky, Alex Genesky and two great grand-children; a brother, Ugo Nanni of Largo, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by six brothers Eugene Nanni, Edmund Nanni, Bruno Nanni, Arthur Nanni, infant Enrico Nanni, Jr. and Enrico Nanni, Jr.

A long-time member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Oakfield New York, Dora was active in parish life for many years in the Alter and Rosary Society.  She was a March of Dimes volunteer and took pride in her civic work on the local elections board.  Dora’s greatest joys were in caring for and loving her family, frequently demonstrated by bringing her family together to share an expertly prepared holiday meal or a simple Sunday dinner.

On Saturday November 2, 2019 Carmella A. Marra, a loving mother of three passed away at the age of 74 near her home in Williamsburg, VA surrounded by loved ones. She was born on January 4, 1945 to the late Mary Grace DiCerbo and Vincent Marra in Olean, NY. She was preceded in death by her brothers Anthony "Mize" Marra, Louie Marra, her sisters Teresa (Samuel) Samuelson and Mary Lou Byrne, as well as her nephew Louie Marra, and her niece Sandra (Timothy) McKeever.

Carmella lived life as passionate as can be and lived to make the most of every moment, she was always on the go, we always said that she could run circles around all of us and boy oh boy we were not kidding. Carmella’s commitment to the AA community was inspiring and touched countless lives. Her passion for recovery, and diligence in this field, generated many flourishing friendships, which she valued deeply. Carmella was an avid volunteer and lived to serve others. She retired from the NY State Department of Corrections as a CASAC counselor, where she ran the CASAT program. As a substance abuse counselor for over 25 years, Carmella was truly fulfilled by her work. Her love of people and strong desire to help them, speaks to the selfless individual she was. In addition to her work, Carmella was a long standing volunteer at the Theresa House, a hospice home in the town she lived in before moving to Virginia in 2016. Carmella enjoyed adventure, traveling abroad, and spending as much time with her family as possible. She was an excellent cook and baker. Carmella embraced her Italian heritage through her gnocchis and various pasta dishes. One of her treasured past times was baking cookies with her beloved grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed this precious teaching and baking time, especially around the holidays. She will be greatly missed.

Carmella is survived by, and will live on through her three daughters Michelle (Steve) Chamberlain, Gia Gordon (Linda Young), and Margaret (David) Spencer. 10 grandchildren: Cortney(DJ Bzduch), Casey (Trevor) Healey, and Ally Chamberlain. Eowyn, Giana, Seneca, and Sarafina Gordon, Andrea, Ava, and David Spencer. As well as 1 great granddaughter: Sophia Bzduch. She is also survived by brother-in law Michael Byrne of Olean, NY and sister-in law Mary Barbara Marra Nara(Gene), originally of Olean, NY, Richard Betts (Linda) and many other family members.

Donald M. Brown, age 84, of Silver Springs, NY passed away on Saturday November 9, 2019 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born in Perry, New York on March 3, 1935 a son to the late Merle and Clarice (Larrison) Brown. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by 2 sons: Donald Brown who passed away in 1984 and Douglas Brown who passed away in 2006.

Don worked for Morton Salt in Silver Springs for 13 years, he was a machinist for Lapp Insulator in LeRoy for 28 years retiring in 1994. He returned back to work driving bus for Livingston-Wyoming ARC for 20 years retiring in 2015. He was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Mary’s Church) in Silver Springs and the 5 Point Rod and Gun Club in Wyoming where he enjoyed trap shooting. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Stacia (Kowasz) Brown whom he married on April 23, 1955, a son: David (Barbara) Brown of Silver Springs, 2 daughter-in-laws: Mary (C Thomas) Reagan of Warsaw, Kimberley (Scott) Brown-Webster of Silver Springs, sister: Nancy (Steve) Larsen of N. Dakota, 2 sister-in-laws: Antoinette (Robert) Blanc and Sally Kowasz both of Perry, 4 grandchildren: Colin (Emily) Reagan, Sheri, Dustin, and Zachary Brown, 3 step grandchildren: Beth Reagan, Mike (Cynthia) Anderson, Donnyle Washburn and Kim (Peter) Reiser, 1 great granddaughter: Willow Reagan, 8 step great grandchildren, cousin: Carol (Cliff) Scott of Castile, along with many nieces and nephews.

Mary “Betty” Elizabeth (Earle) Minchin, 74, of Stafford, Va., passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Mary Washington Hospital with her son at her side.

She was born in St. John’s Newfoundland to the late Mary Elizabeth Earle. She was one of 11 children and the youngest of six girls.

She graduated from Batavia High School Class of 1964. She was a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. William York Church.

She had a very successful career in real estate for over 20 years, most of which was with Coldwell Banker Elite and was always part of many community service events sponsored by the company. She was a top producer for many years and was well known for her professionalism and kindness.

Survivors include: her son James Michael Minchin (Rebecca); grandchildren Connor, Christopher, Brandon, Logan, Merilyn, Shannon, Hannah and Noah; siblings Edward Earle (Beverly), Grace Cook, Jeanette Konieczny, Loretta Bausch, David Earle (Barbara) and Patrick Earle (Marge); sister-in-law Nancy Slaven; several nieces’ nephews; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William John Minchin, and son Brian John Minchin; siblings William Earle, Stella Cirillo, Gerald Earles and Phyllis Griener.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday November 1, 2019 at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford, Va. Oakfield - Duane Merrill Seaburg, of Oakfield, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the New York State Veteran’s Nursing Home in Batavia.

Mr. Seaburg was born October 5, 1928 in Batavia, the son of the late Everett and Mildred Merrill Seaburg.

His wife, Rita Jane Goodman Seaburg, passed away on August 6, 2017. The two were married on June 7, 1952 in Batavia.

He is survived by his daughters, Michele (Thomas) Graham of Oakfield and Marcella (Jeff) Brackett of Webster; four granddaughters, Erin Graham of Longview, Texas and Elizabeth, Emily and Erica Brackett of Webster; two great-grandchildren, Hadley and Harper; and nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his son, Mark Seaburg, who passed away on April 4, 2009 and his sister, Joyce Hutchinson.

Mr. Seaburg was employed as a draftsman and designer for General Electric in Brockport, Shop Vac while living in Pennsylvania, Fisher Price in East Aurora and at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo where he worked as a tool designer. A graduate of Alfred State, he proudly served his country with the United States Navy.

As a member of the Oakfield Fire Department, he served as past chief and past president. He was instrumental in establishing bingo for the fire department and the ambulance service. Duane was a former Oakfield Village Trustee, and he was a past deputy fire coordinator for Genesee County. An avid golfer, he was a member and ranger at Batavia Country Club. Mr. Seaburg also participated in the Senior Olympics for the VA in golf.

BATAVIA - Marian L. (Hart) Harrison, 87, of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, after a period of failing health during an extended stay at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born March 27, 1932, in Sweden, to Alice and Chester Hart, the ninth of eleven children.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Maurice, of Batavia; children, Vicki Currier and significant other Jay Fisher of Batavia and Marvin (Louise) Harrison of Newbury, Vermont; one grandchild, Reed (Annie) Harrison of Portland Oregon; two great-grandchildren, Maggie & Chase. She is survived by one sibling, Martha Krisher of Jacksonville Florida along with many nieces and nephews.

Marian is predeceased by her brothers; Ray, Dean, George, Glenn and Chester Hart as well as her sisters; Jennie Parker, Elizabeth Lamb, Dorothy Austin and Ruth Volk and her son-in-law, Robert "Bud" Currier.

She was a longtime member and tireless worker for the Emmanuel Baptist Church and of the Town of Batavia Fire Department Auxiliary and the local Home Bureau and spent countless hours in community service with them. When the children were young, she was the "ding-dong, Avon calling" home representative, followed by a long stint driving school bus at Elba Central. She then worked for several years as the bookkeeper at the Batavia NAPA store before retiring.

She and Morie wintered in Lakeland, Florida for over 20 years of retirement before their health dictated staying the friendly confines of Batavia for its balmy winters. Square-dancing, camping, playing cards and board games and following the Yankees were all fun pastimes for Marian.

There will be no prior visiting hours. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 11 a.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 190 Oak Street, Batavia. A reception will follow in the church hall after services. Private burial will be held in Grand View Cemetery at a later date. Batavia / Elba ~ Joseph Edward Combo Sr, age 95, passed away on November 7, 2019.

     Born in Rochester, N.Y. on Feb. 27, 1924, a son of the late Patsy and Lillian Combo, he lived his youth in Caledonia, N.Y.

     He married Rowena Monroe Combo in 1948 and raised his family in Elba, N.Y.

     Joseph was a muck farmer, who enjoyed hunting and socializing with other farmers in the area.  He took great pride in his family and cherished each moment with them.

     Joseph is survived by his children; Kathryn Combo Fernandez Brown (Charles) of Alexandria, VA, Joseph Edward Combo Jr. of Batavia, Margaret Combo Mooney of Medina and Elizabeth Combo Pearles (Glenn) of Albion.  He was greatly loved by his grandchildren; Alicia Fernandez Hogan, David Fernandez (Allison), Patricia Combo Zgainer (Darren), Robert Combo (Kelly), Matthew Mooney Galantowicz (Keith), Karrie Mooney Banfield (Jason), Jeremy Mooney (Alisha), Chris Pearles (Kerry) and Andrea Pearles Robinson (Kenny).  He has 13 great-grandchildren, who always put a smile on his face during family gatherings.  He is also survived by his sister, Grace Antinore, sister-in-law, Loretta Combo and many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Rowena, his brother, Carl Combo and his brother-in-law, James Antinore.

D. John “Jack” Grayson, 93, of Le Roy, passed away at Highland Hospital in Rochester on November 4, 2019.

     He was born in Le Roy on November 28, 1925 to the Late Margaret (Dray) and Arthur F. Grayson.

     He is preceded in death by his wife Marguerite (Kagi) Grayson and his brother Arthur W. Grayson.

     Jack was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army Air Corps as a B-24 gunner with the 307^th Bomb Group in the Pacific Theatre.  He held a degree in mechanical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology.  He was a past president of both Le Roy Machine Company and Dray Enterprises, Inc. in Le Roy.  He was a proud member of the New York State Parks Commission.  He was an amateur radio operator (KC2RZ), enjoyed motorsports and the Buffalo Bills.

     He will be missed by eight daughters and two sons; David (Danette) Grayson of Stafford, Anne (Thomas) Frew of Le Roy, Amy (Scott) Pesesky of Norfolk, VA, Peggy Grayson of Stafford, Lisa (Mark) Soderberg of Conifer, CO, Katherine Hare of Virginia Beach, VA, Barbara Ryan of Newport News, VA, William (Kathy) Grayson of Le Roy, Susan (Thomas) Goodno of Chili, NY, Bridget Grayson of Le Roy.  He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and twenty eight great grandchildren.

Georgeia Defoe, 85 of Batavia, has gone to be with the LORD on November 2, 2019.

She was born September 4, 1934 in Batavia, NY.

She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur Defoe; her mom, Margaret Washburn-Starkweather; brother, Vern Washburn and her youngest daughter, Dawn Defoe.

She was a wonderful mom to her 5 children and 2 stepchildren.

Survivors include a son, Douglas (Pam) Scott of Corfu; daughters, Donna Scott of Batavia, Diane (Norman) Sheffer of Caledonia, Debora (Dave) Howe of Corfu, Diana Cooley of Batavia and Lenora Shepard of Batavia. A sister, Pauline Dunlap of Georgia and a brother, Kerry Washburn of Chicago. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

MARYVILLE, TN - Frank Bakos, 70, of Maryville, TN, formerly of East Pembroke, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at in Knoxville, TN.

Frank was born March 14, 1949, in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Frank and Florence (Plewniak) Bakos.

After graduating from Batavia High School (1967), Frank earned undergraduate degrees at Northwestern Michigan College (Traverse City, MI; 1971) and SUNY Oswego (1974). He earned a Masters degree in Vocational Technical Education from SUNY Buffalo in 1980 and in 2004, received his ASME GDTP certification.

He was a former BOCES Machine Shop Instructor, former employee at Eastman Kodak Co. and for the last 20 years, as the owner of Frank Bakos Associates, exclusively consulted for Tec-Ease, Inc.  He was a leader within the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and served as Chairman for various committees of Senior Level Certified Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing professionals.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Darlene M. (Peck) Bakos; 2 sons, Aaron F. (Pam) Bakos of Knoxville, TN and Adam D. (Katie) Bakos of Elma, NY; a daughter, Laura A. Bakos (Shayan Rastegari) of Maryville, TN; 4 brothers, Thomas (Eleanor) Bakos of Batavia, NY, Paul (Barbara) Bakos of Bel Air, MD, Stephen Bakos of Perry, NY, and Bernard (Mary) Bakos of Batavia, NY; 5 grandchildren (Elliott, Aria, Sophie, Evelyn, and Rumi) and several nieces and nephews.

Frank is preceded in death by a sister, Bernadine Foote, formerly of Elba.

Receiving of friends will take place between 3 and 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia, followed by a memorial service at 10 am on Monday, with the Rev. Matthew Gold officiating.  Frank will be laid to rest following services in Grandview Cemetery in Batavia, NY.

BATAVIA - On Monday, October 28, 2019, Cynthia "Cindi" Baldwin Lear, loving daughter, sister, aunt, companion and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep at 56.

Cindi was born on August 29, 1963 in Albion, a daughter of Betty (Manes) Baldwin of Batavia and the late Harold Baldwin.

She attended school at Oakfield-Alabama Central School and Genesee Community College. Cindi was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas. She later worked as a paralegal for various law firms in New York and Texas. She was also a licensed Mediator and Arbitrator. Cindi lived between Texas,Florida and New York most of her adult life.

Cindi was a music lover of all genres and a walking encyclopedia of songs and artists. She enjoyed dancing to the beat from an early age. She was fun to be around and loved the beach. She loved being with family, playing games and reading. She was a history buff and loved political satire. She was a long time member of a Fantasy Football League in Batavia and loved her Buffalo Bills. Cindi also loved the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, Texas Longhorns and Buffalo Sabres.

Along with her mother, Cindi is survived by a sister, Linda Potter of Pearland, Texas; brother, Michael Baldwin of Batavia; and “the love of her life” Jeffrey Matla of Batavia; nieces, Nicole Watson, Julie Potter and Stephanie McGuire all of Texas; nieces and nephews "by choice," Ryan Barbeau, Kyle Shultz, Chase Shultz, Stacy Lear, Shannon Rivera, Melissa Cone, Michael Lear, Kyle Lear, Justin Lear, Ryan Lear, Aaron Lear and Pasquale Rapone. Several other aunts and uncles, and cousins also survive.

There will be no prior visitation.  All are welcome to attend Cindi's Memorial Service on Saturday, (November 9, 2019) at 12:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 306 E. Main Street, Batavia.  The Rev. Raymond Walker will officiate.  Burial will military honors will be private in Cary Cemetery, Oakfield. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Cindi’s name to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Pkwy, Amherst, NY 14228.
