Betty S. Clark, 66, formerly of LeRoy, NY passed away on January 3, 2020 in Medina, NY. She was born in Batavia, NY to the late Claude J. and the late Joan (Johnson) Clark. She was preceded in death by her sister, Karen DellaPenta.

Betty was a former member of City Church in Batavia. She had a heart of gold and would help anyone that needed it.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Robert and Danielle Tooley of Oakfield; grandchildren, Gemma, RJ, and Rowan Tooley; sister, Kathy (Tom) Harper, of Florida; brother-in-law, Pat DellaPenta, of S. Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

DONNA M. WOLCOTT ~ Age 78, of Batavia, died peacefully Saturday December 28, 2019 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born in Batavia, NY on March 18, 1941 to the late John and Catherine (Camaratta) Wolcott, also preceded in death by her siblings, John, Michael, David & Butch Wolcott and Joan Watches.

Donna was employed by the ARC Day Program for many years, she was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed crafts of any kind.

Surviving is her loving sister, Mary A. Fitch of Batavia; brother-in-law, Chauncey Watches, several nieces, nephews and her ARC family.

Donna’s family will be present from 11a.m. – 12p.m. on Wednesday January 8, 2020 at the MICHAEL S. LARRY J. BUCK ~ Age 59, longtime public servant, died Sunday December 22, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a long illness. Larry was born February 19, 1960 in Dansville, NY to the late Charles and Gerri (Comardo) Buck; also preceded in death by his brother, Roger Buck.

Larry’s joy in helping others is what started his career in public service, which began in Attica as a Police Officer, moving on to be a Paramedic for the City of Batavia and finally settling in as a 911 Dispatcher for Genesee County also serving as a Genesee County Coroner for many years. He was an active member of the Genesee County Republican Party, enjoyed all sports, especially hockey, football, horse racing, baseball and NASCAR.   

Surviving is his beloved wife of 35 years, Donna (Gundell) Buck of Batavia; daughter, Michelle (John) Tracy of California and their children, Melody, Sarah & Benjamin; son, David Marniucci of Sodus, NY; sister, Sandra (Paul) Briggs of Dansville; brother-in-law, Fred Gundell of Batavia along with a special niece, Ashley (Chris) Politi.

Marilyn Morton, of North Tonawanda, formerly of Batavia, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2019.  She was born on September 30, 1936 in Batavia, New York to the late Russell and Anne (Rogan) Morton.  Marilyn is predeceased by brothers Russell A. Morton, Jr.; and the Honorable Glenn R. Morton.

Marilyn was involved in nursing throughout her life, as an RN, LPN, Public Health Nurse, and through her significant community involvement.  Marilyn began her career as a surgical nurse in Batavia and Buffalo, New York and then became an instructor at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.  At Plattsburgh State, Marilyn held several positions instructing students, headed the Nursing Department, and also participated on the College's Steering Committee and Faculty Senate.  Marilyn earned her Master’s degree at Tulane University focusing on Public Health Nursing which she used throughout her career, as well as volunteering for community health initiatives, and through her Parish, Saint Peters.

Marilyn was active in many community, health, and religious events and organizations including: fundraisers, community outreach programs for the sick and elderly, helping to bring Hospice to Clinton County, and was also active in local historical events.  She was a lifelong learner and community supporter and she enjoying knitting, needlepoint, and gardening in her spare time.

Marilyn is survived by her nieces and nephews; Melissa Clark of Rochester PA, Katherine (James) Nicoletti (James) of Webster NY, Glenn (Dana) Morton III of North Tonawanda, Timothy-Jay Morton and M. Rogan (Joseph Cardinal) Morton of Buffalo; and many grand nieces and nephews.

Rosalie M. (LoCastro) Rosica, 87 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born in Dunkirk on September 22, 1932 to the late Anthony (Mary Conti) LoCastro. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Thomas R. Rosica, whom she married on June 28, 1958; brother Joseph LoCastro; sister-in-law to Michael Lovria, Noma LoCastro, Lena and Paul Palmer, Sabastian and Ada Rosica; daughter-in-law to Charles (Mary Di’Angelo) Rosica and her niece Frances LoCastro.

She was a 1951 graduate of Batavia High School and 1953 graduate of Jamestown School of Practical Nursing where she earned her LPN Degree. After graduation, she was a nurse at the former St. Jerome Hospital in Batavia for several years before becoming a homemaker, which she was most proud of. A current member of Resurrection Parish, she was a past lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church before it’s closing where she was instrumental in several of the church societies including, St. Nicholas, St. Loretta, St. Josephs Day Table founders and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Rosalie was a devoted wife, mother and “Nannie” to her dear husband and family. Her family and friends meant everything to her. She loved to cook and share a good meal with them. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, ceramics and playing cards over the years. She was an avid animal lover from the time she was a child when she would bring home strays and take care of them to her golden years with her felines Bootsie and Frisky. She will be truly missed by all who knew her and for her witty, loving and charming personality.

Mrs. Rosica is survived by her dear sister Pearl Lovria of Batavia, whom she cherished very much, brother Frank LoCastro of LeRoy, beloved children Thomas C. Rosica, Mary Ann (Joseph) Raphael, Victoria (Daniel) Jacques; most precious grandchildren Jenna (Robert) Gallitto, Jared & Andrea Raphael, Megan and Marissa Jacques, along with many nieces and nephews.    

There will be no prior calling hours, please join the family for a 12:00 Noon Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020 (the family will greet people prior to mass at 11:30 AM). She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.

Sheila M. Stavisky, age 70, of Castile, NY and Norvelt, PA. passed away on Monday December 30, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born in Elmira, NY on March 11, 1949, a daughter to the late Terrence M. and Desailes M. (Brague) McConnell. She is preceded in death by a brother James McConnell who passed away in 2007.

Sheila was a 1967 graduate of North Penn High School in Blossburg, PA., and graduated in 1970 from Mansfield University with a Bachelors of Science in Education. She was a special education teacher of early childhood Education through Jr. High. Sheila worked for several school districts in Pennsylvania including Wellsboro School District in Wellsboro, Tunkhannock Area School District in Tunkhannock and Greensburg-Salem School District in Greensburg where she was very proud of serving as a writing coach. She retired from Greensburg-Salem in 2006.

Sheila was a member of the Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Greensburg and attended St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Warsaw. She was an active member of the Perry Garden Club where she was past treasurer and the Greater Latrobe Art Conservation Trust in Latrobe, PA. Sheila enjoyed cooking, entertaining, home décor especially during the holidays, arts and crafts. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, or just quiet days at the lake with Bill.

She is survived by her husband whom she married on August 28, 1971 Dr. William D. Stavisky, daughter: Bethanie (Kevin) Swartz of Victor, son: Dan (Gina) Stavisky of Orchard Park, 5 grandchildren: John, Allison, Clare, Elyse and Graham. sister-in-law: Sarah (Martin) Fry of Coudersport, PA., and brother-in-law: Dan (Mary) Stavisky of Port Allegany, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Batavia - Dolores "Dee" Elizabeth Ognibene, 84, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2019, at The Grand Rehabilitation And Nursing in Batavia.

Dolores was born February 5, 1935, in Batavia, to the late Vance Frisby and Alice Gund Grice.

She was a beloved wife, mother and sister who was a devoted Catholic. She loved animals and started riding quarter horses at the age of 39. She traveled all over New York State, along with Canada, Texas and the Eastern United States for over 30 years winning numerous awards that include World Championship in Oklahoma and All America Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 64 years, Joseph; beloved children; Stephen Joseph (Loretta) Ognibene, Joni (Thomas) Yaskulski, Rosanne (Mark) Bertolani, Michael (Bonnie) Ognibene and Maria Dolores (Scott) Soeffing; beloved grandchildren; Sara, Joseph, Matthew, Stephen Ryan Ognibene, Melanie (Daniel) Deemer, Michael (Rema) Yaskulski, Mark (Carol) Bertolani, Anthony Bertolani,Samantha (Ryan) Macdonald, Jennifer (Jonathan) Flannery, Kristine Elizabeth (Steven) Cummings, Mariah and Mia Ognibene, Philip, Amo, Vincent, Angelina, Dylan and Jesse Soeffing; beloved great-grandchildren; Thomas and Benjamin Deemer, Michael II and Eden Yaskulski, Ryan Jr. and Andrew Macdonald and Maximus and Mercedes Flannery; her loving and devoted sister; Elizabeth (Nicholas) Spiotta; sisters-in-law Katherine Ognibene and Mary Dee Ognibene along with several nieces and nephews.

Lucy Taylor Snell, 81, of Corfu, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 surrounded by her family.

She was born August 5, 1938 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Clifford and Elizabeth Taylor. Lucy graduated from Kensington High School in Buffalo. She attended Buffalo State Teachers College and graduated in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education. Lucy then went on to be a 4-H economics agent with Genesee County, where she met her loving husband Roger Snell. Roger and Lucy dedicated their lives to their Airville Farm until his death in 1990.

Lucy was an active member of the Sigma Kappa Alumna and the Pi Kappa. Lucy was also a 50-year member of the East Pembroke Grange. Lucy also enjoyed her lunch outings and time spent with the MADD support group. She was known as “Cowgram” and “Hockey Gram” to all who knew her.

Lucy enjoyed gardening, farming, cooking, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her two puppies Baily and Halo. She was an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabers Fan. She was very proud of her Buffalo roots and loved following the revitalization of Buffalo.

Lucy is survived by her children Susan (Frank) DiFilippo of Corfu, and Sally (Jeff) Corbett of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Ryan DiFilippo, Jordan DiFilippo, Elyse Corbett, Garret (Celina) Corbett and Mara Corbett. She is also survived by her sister Lois (late Henry) Rehfeld of Bradenton, FL and several nieces and nephews.

ALICE J. TADDEI ~ Age 89, of Oakfield, died Friday afternoon December 27, 2019 at the East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw. She was born in Batavia, NY on October 13, 1930 to the late Frank and Wanda (Stachowski) Yasses, also preceded in death by her beloved Husband, Amelio R. Taddei, siblings Genevieve Rudolph, Dolores Krantz, Irene Bachulak, Alfreda Walton, Lorraine Maher, Frances Slovick, Frank, Theodore, and Henry Yasses.

Mrs. Taddei was a longtime member of St. Padre Pio Parish in Oakfield and worked at the former Sylvania plant before its move. She was a fun-loving woman who enjoyed cooking, playing cards with her sisters but most of all time spent with family and at Red Lake fishing with her beloved, Amelio.

Surviving are her loving daughters, Carol (Martha Standish) Taddei of Pavilion, Marie (John) Blaine of Pittsburgh, PA and Marilyn (late Keith) Sheron of Batavia; cherished grandchildren, Dr. Maria (Brian) Sheron-Chung and Officer Derek (DeAnna) Blaine; great-grandchildren, Weston & Wyatt Blaine; brothers, Leonard “Butch” Yasses of NC, Edwin Yasses of Stafford; sister-in-law, Lorraine Yasses of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews.

      David F. Genagon of Elba went to be with Jesus after a brief stay at Unity Hospital on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the age of 64.David was predeceased by his father, Myron and his mother, Edith (Schultz) Genagon.

     

 David was married for 40 years to the absolute love of his life, Tammy (Steinbrenner), who he doted on and adored.  Tammy could not have had a more loving husband.

     He was the fourth generation to work the Genagon family farm before joining Kodak for 35 years.  Outside of work, David had several other interests.  He had a lifelong love of classic cars, especially his ’69 Camaro which he fondly remembered and sorely missed.  At 6’7” he was the tallest blackbelt in his Dojo.  Karate was a hobby David took up in order to spend more time with his sons, for whom he would have done absolutely anything.  David was an active and faithful member of Living Waters Church in Le Roy, where he was embraced by a large church familywho shared his love of Jesus.  During the summer he enjoyed camping and relaxing at Conesus Lake with his wife.  David was a family man, an amazing friend, and a loving Pop Pop.  He was always there whenever anyone needed him.  He was selfless, humble and always placed family first. 

     David is survived by his wife Tammy (Steinbrenner) Genagon, two sons, Jason (Stacy) of Caledonia, Joshua (Jennifer) of Rush, and four grandchildren-Madison, Kara, William, and Owen.  David considered himself fortunate to have a second set of parents, Virginia and George Steinbrenner, along with his brothers and sisters through marriage; Jay (Shannon) Steinbrenner, Jeff (Lori) Steinbrenner, Terri (Doug) Skierski, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He will also be greatly missed by his pup and two cats.

Kay (Keenan) Hill, 69, of Alden, NY, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2019. She was born in Warsaw, NY to the late Donald and the late Beatrice (Cornish) Keenan on August 9, 1950.

Kay was a Certified Nurse’s Aide for the Warsaw Hospital and also UMMC in Batavia. Her last place of employment as an Aide was at Erie County Nursing Home. She was also a Beautician.  Kay enjoyed gardening and she painted ceramics in her earlier years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Kay is survived by her children, David Hill of Akron, Lisa Dueringer, of Fortville, Indiana, Scott Hill of Varysburg, and Ashley (Jared) Hiner of Fortville, Indiana; stepmother, Dorothy Keenan of Warsaw; her grandchildren, Julie Earsing, Gage Dueringer, Carter Dueringer, Olivia Dueringer, Talon Dueringer, Brendan Weierheiser, Case Hill, Kamdyn Hiner, and Sophia Hiner.

 There will be a Celebration of Life from 1 pm – 5 pm on March 14, 2020 at the Alden American Legion, 13143 Broadway, Alden, NY 14004. Henry P. Valerych, beloved husband, father and grandfather, was called home on December 25, 2019. Henry, the seventh son of a seventh son, was born on the family farm in Oakfield, NY on July 27, 1927. He was a quiet, gentle man, but a force for change, love and respect.

Hank, as he was affectionately known is survived by his beloved wife of almost 64 years; Anna Schiavone Valerych; his cherished children Michelle (Charles Joseph) Mahler of Batavia, Henry Peter Valerych of Corfu and Mary Ann Valerych, at home; his loving grandchildren Joseph Henry Mahler of Batavia and Sara Anne Mahler of Buffalo. He is also survived by his dear in-laws; Rose and Frank O’Geen, Theresa (the late Russell) Cravatta, Jeanette and Bruce Tehan and many cherished nieces and nephews.

The baby of 12 children, predeceased by all, he surely had a joyous Christmas as he was reunited with his parents; Peter and Mary Valery; his sisters Josephine (Anton) Grylicki, Anna (Anthony) Figelow, Violet (Sal) LoCastro, Gladys (Baldon) Palazynski, Martha (James) Arena; brothers Raymond (Elaine) Valery, Chester (Helen) Valery, Edmund, Leo, John and Walter Valery, as well as his mother and father-in-law Nicholas and Maria Michele Schiavone; in-laws Joseph (Ida (Michael Adamus) Schiavone, Peter (Catherine) Schiavone, Lucy (Mario) Maloni and Mary (Joseph) Yacono.

During WWII, at age 17, Hank quit school and joined the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Mosopelea ATF 158, which was commissioned on his 18^th birthday. He didn’t care much for the sea and after two years in the Navy he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed Army life, serving around the world, including Korea and Germany, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring in 1966. He then worked at and ultimately retired from Graham Manufacturing in Batavia, where he was an active member of the Graham Retiree’s Group, serving as Treasurer of many years.

Hank lived a life of service. As one of the Genesee County NYSARC founders, Hank and his wife helped create and grow the agency from its inception, spending a lifetime in service to people with disabilities and their families. Hank held every office and served on nearly every committee through the years. He chaired the Membership Drive, the Genesee ARC Bowl-A-Thon and the ARC Tournament raffle, helping raise more than $500,000 in his lifetime to support and expand programs and services to individuals with developmental disabilities. After 52 years on the Board of Directors, Hank recently stepped down from his leadership position and was granted Board Member Emeritus status. Hank is forever grateful to the agency employees, particularly direct care staff who truly make a difference in the lives of so many in our community.

A current member of Resurrection Parish, he was an usher at St. Anthony’s Church prior to its closure. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. A Fourth Degree Knight of Capadonno Assembly, Knights of Columbus Msgr. Kirby Council #325, he held multiple offices, including Vocations Chairman and was Treasurer until his death. Hank was also a life member of the Batavia VFW Post #1602, a member of the Down Syndrome Parent Support Group of Genesee County and long-term Agency Representative on the policy setting NYSARC Board of Governors.  A modest man, he focused on his mission and was always surprised when recognition came his way. His many honors included being Geneseean of the Year in 1993 (along with his wife, Ann – the first couple so honored), recipient of the 2002 WNY Developmental Disabilities Awareness Day Family / Caregiver / Advocate Award and most recently receiving the 2019 Spirit of Arc Award.

Lance J. Lipinski, 80, of Lyndonville, formerly of Batavia, passed away on December 27, 2019 at Unity Hospital in Rochester. He was born on January 13, 1939 in Rochester to the late Walter J. and Thelma (Fritz) Lipinski. In addition to his parents, Lance is predeceased by his son; James Lipinski; son-in-law Scott Humel; brother Ronald Lipinski.

Lance was a member of the Sportsman’s Coonhunter’s Association, the East Pembroke Vol. Fire Department, the Junior Wilson’s Sportsman’s Club, and was a social member at the VFW in Medina. Lance was an avid outdoorsman, loved gardening and softball and was a 3 sport athlete in his younger years. Lance enjoyed having friends and family up to the lake for fun!

He is survived by his wife; Betty Lipinski; children Kenneth (Beth) Lipinski of Corfu, Theresa (Jaimie) Branciforte of LeRoy, Deborah (Tim) Baker of Batavia, Penny Humel of E. Pembroke, John Smith of SC., and Michael (Brenda) King of Batavia; brother Thomas Lipinski of Batavia, along with many grandchildren and one nephew; TJ.  

As per his wishes there will be no prior calling hours. Services for Lance will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be a Celebration of Life held in the spring.

Carmella “Millie” McVay, 82 of Corfu, passed away on December 25, 2019. She was born December 20, 1937 in Batavia, to the late Ignazio and Carmella (Dorsey) Mortellaro. She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred M. McVay Sr. whom she married on July 20, 1956; daughter Cathy Hein, sisters Mary (Tony) Cassaro, Jenny Stellar, brothers Casper (Elaine) Mortellaro and Frank (Arlene) Mortellaro.     

Millie was co-owner of Joe’s Pro Shop and Trophies since 1975. She enjoyed bowling, golf, spending time with her grandchildren, puzzles, playing cards at the Senior Center, and spending time getting her hair done by her best friend Carol Grasso.   

She is survived by her beloved children Jeannie (John) Mazurowski of Pittsburgh, PA; Mark (Kelly) McVay of Batavia; Alfred (Donna) McVay Jr. of Crestview, FL; son-in-law Marty (Kathie) Hein of Batavia; grandchildren Kelly (Erik) Albenze, Phillip (Marti) Mazurowski, Mitchell (Kayleigh) Mazurowski, Maxwell (Clarissa) Mazurowski, Joseph (Britney) Santini, Mackenna (Joshua) Fagan, Alex (Maria) McVay, Brittany (Adam) Hein, Stacy (Eric) Hein, and many, many great-grandchildren; siblings Rose (Russ) Vanvalkenburg, Anthony (Shirley) Mortellaro, Joseph (Sandy) Mortellaro and Richard (Kathy) Mortellaro.

She will be laid to rest in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.

  Gina M. Kennedy, 58, of Batavia passed away on December 25, 2019 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born on May 15, 1961 in Batavia to the late John and Margaret (Maloy) Eppolito. In addition to her parents, Gina is predeceased by her brothers; John “Jackie” and Chuck Eppolito.

Gina’s warmth, kindness, and sense of responsibility to her friends, family, and coworkers were undeniable. She was a selfless hard worker who rarely took vacation. She was a wonderful cook and loved to share her gift with everyone. She was quick to give people her opinion on any matter, take it or leave it. She treasured her children and grandchildren, and would tell anyone who would listen just how proud she was. She laughed with her whole body, cried with her whole heart. There can never be a feeling of emptiness, because she filled our hearts. She touched so many lives. She will be sadly missed, and fondly remembered.

She is survived by her loving husband; Kevin Kennedy; daughter Jackie (Dan’l Fisher) Siverling of Batavia; son Craig (Jenni) Meyer of Basom; step-children Joe Elmore and Sarah Elmore; sister Linda Eppolito; sister in law Lori Eppolito; grandchildren Alivia, Benjamin and Craig Jr.; lifelong friend Linda (Doug) Hagen along with many nieces and nephews.
