Batavia - David Lee Funston, 82 of Batavia  passed away on Tuesday, (December 29, 2020) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Mr. Funston was born  January 11, 1938 in Syracuse, a son of the late Herbert and Margaret (Windett) Funston.

Dave was a devout Episcopalian and active musician.  He played percussion in the Genesee Symphony Orchestra for 50 years and held several leadership positions including President.  Dave played percussion with several other groups including "A Pretty Good Band" in Speculator, NY and in support of local high schools musicals, the Rotary Club and others.   

A veteran, David served honorably with the Air Force. Mr. Funston worked in electrical design for nearly 20 years at GTE Sylvania followed by nearly 20 years at Eastman Kodak and was proud of the 21 patents he earned during his career. He and his wife enjoyed summering at their cottage in Lake Pleasant, in Hamilton County where he liked to sail and fly fish. He was also a talented woodworker who enjoyed sharing his products with friends and family.

Surviving are his wife, Anne (Benjamin) Funston of Batavia; children, Barbara (John) Baker of Stafford, Virginia, and Brian (Kristin) Funston of Golden, Colorado; grandchildren, Alison Baker (Jeffrey) Bryant, Samuel (Kayla) Baker, Elsie Baker, Jeb Baker, Maggie Funston, and Matthew Funston; a brother, Bruce (late Shirley) Funston of Jackson, Michigan; a sister, Eileen (late Robert) Houston of Lansing, Michigan.

There will be no visitation. Services will be held at a later date. Batavia- Beverly (Woodhouse) McAllister, age 82, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 28, 2020 at LeRoy Village Green Nursing Facility.

Mrs. McAllister was born Saturday, June 4, 1938 in Batavia, New York a daughter of the late Gordon Woodhouse and Marion Dempsey Woodhouse.

A 1956 graduate of Batavia High School, she worked for Kozak Auto Dry Wash in Batavia and was the office manager for Genesee County Abstract in Batavia for many years. A member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Batavia, Bev was a wonderful mother and wife of 60 years to William McAllister.  She was a kind and gentle soul who was always in good spirits and loved to laugh. She had a great way of finding the good in anyone.

Beverly is the wife of William R. McAllister who passed away on April 28, 2016.

Surviving are her children;  Scott (Lorie Jaszko) McAllister  of Batavia and Colleen (Mark Plessinger) Bosse of Pittsford; five grandchildren; Angela (Jarred) Schlaggel, Aaron R. Bosse, Emily A. Bosse, Alex W. Bosse and Zachary L. Bosse; five great-grandchildren; her sister; Barbara (David) Green of Dover, Delaware; her brother; William Woodhouse of Dover, Delaware and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her infant son, Shawn Allen; granddaughter, Alyssa L. Bosse and her brother, Robert Woodhouse.

There are no prior visiting hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery. Delorice C. Anderson, 87 of Attica, passed away on December 29, 2020. She was born October 31, 1933 in East Pembroke to the late Charles and Ruth Carroll. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Anderson and brother Marvin Carroll.

Dee lived most of her life in Attica before retiring to Port Charlotte, FL, then returning to Attica after the death of her husband. Dee enjoyed many hobbies such as knitting, crocheting and was an award winning quilter at Charlotte County Fair.

Delorice is survived by sons, Brian (Marcy) Anderson of Port Charlotte, FL, Barry (Denise) Anderson of Attica, Bruce (Mindy) Anderson of Attica and her Dutch son Arend (Late Kathy) Koers of Attica. She is also survived by her pride and joy, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Due to covid restrictions a private service will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery, Attica.

Le Roy ~ Martin J. "Mike" Brusso, age 85, of Woodward Drive, passed away Monday morning (Dec. 28, 2020) at Strong Memorial Hospital

    

 He was born March 25, 1935 in Union Hill, N.Y., a son of the late John and Minerva Rathbun Brusso.

     Mike will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at their cottage on Silver Lake.  He was a US Army veteran and had a passion for baseball and tractors.

     He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Melissa (Jeff) Tack and Melinda Miller; step children, Christopher (Sue) Ecker and Kelly (Paul) Frawley; grandchildren, Bethany, Dori and Evee Rivaldo, Caleb and Hannah Miller; step grandchildren, Christopher Ecker, Jonathan Ecker, Christine (Bradley) Oliver and Pauli Frawley; 5 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     He was predeceased by his loving wife, Leni Lee Brusso, his daughter, Michelle Brusso, 11 siblings and stepson, David Ecker.

     Services for Mike will be private at the convenience of his family.

Batavia - Henry I.  Larson, age 79, of Batavia, went home to the loving arms of his savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Buffalo VA Medical Center in Buffalo, New York.

Mr. Larson was born Saturday, February 8th, 1941 in Niagara Falls, a son of the late Eric and Mary Estella Adrian Larson.

He attended Niagara Falls High School and the Columbia School of Broadcasting. He joined the United States Army in 1958, completing his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was transferred to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for combat engineer training. He joined the Paratroopers in 1959 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and served in Germany during the Berlin Crisis when the Berlin Wall was erected.

He was the co-founder and president of Batavia Channel 14 radio club, Free and Accepted Masons, Landmark Lodge in Niagara Falls, a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 1602 and Disabled American Veterans, Batavia American Legion and the Loyal Order of the Moose, #1132 in LeRoy. He was the first president of the 400 Towers resident council and a member of the Batavia Housing Authority board of directors.

He drove tractor trailer for 35 years beginning with Tyler truck lines of Oakfield and ending his career with Cummings & Bricker of Batavia. During his 35 years, he drove over 3 million miles over 48 states, Canada and Mexico.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Tozer Larson; daughters, Dawn Larson (Randy) Piazza, Darlene Larson (Scott) Watson, Teresa “Trixie” Phelan (Ray) Eighmey; sons; Carl Eric (Suzie) Larson, Jason Eugene Phelan and David (Aaron) Larson; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three sisters and one brother.

There are no prior calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial, with military honors, will be held at Grand View Cemetery. Roosevelt Smith, Sr., 75, long time residence of Genesee County, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at his son’s home under the care of his family.

Roosevelt was born, January 24, 1945 in Minter, Alabama, a son of the late Lee Earnest and Lucinda (Moore) Smith.

Roosevelt was a founding member of the Genesee Country Church where he served as a trustee; developed, organized and lead both the elementary and teen programs for years; and drove the church bus.  He enjoyed reading his bible daily, mentoring youth, fishing, hunting and was an exercise enthusiast.  Roosevelt was a member of Godfrey's Pond and summered at Lei-ti Campgrounds for many years. He also participated in bowling and softball leagues in Batavia and Oakfield for many years.  He worked at P.W. Minor’s and Sons, for over 25 years, and also loved driving school bus for the Elba Central School District and worked for several years at Walmart in Batavia prior retirement.

Surviving are his sons, Roosevelt (Liza) Smith, Jr. of Byron and Christopher (Katelynn) Smith of Batavia. Grandchildren; Deacon, Malachi, Roman, Solomon, Genevieve, Ella, Lyla, Eva and Christopher and several nieces and nephews. His brothers; JD Smith, Lee Earnest, Willie Smith and Sisters; Viola Smith, Rosie Mae Davis, Alberta Smith and Shirley Jackson.

Preceded in death by James Smith, Bessie Davis, Willie Nell ”Lucy” Smith, and Deloise Smith.

A Celebration of Roosevelt's Life will be held at a later date at the Genesee Country Church.

Richard  A.  Cecere, 84, of Alexander, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at his home.

Richard was born August 19, 1936 in Batavia, a son of the late Anthony and Anna (Palvino) Cecere.

Richard loved being with his family, raising his turkeys, mowing his lawn and going to the track and watching the horses race.  He was an avid outdoors-man.  Richard was a member of Resurrection Parish and was inducted into the Batavia High School Sports Hall of Fame.  He was a steel worker at Continental Can Company in LeRoy and was also a veteran, serving with the United States Army.

Surviving are his wife, Helen (Gilhooly) Cecere of Alexander; children, Richard (Melanie) Cecere of Alexander, Debra (Tom) Irr of Arcade, Jeff (Jill) Cecere of Alexander, Julie Heale of Alexander and Gary Cecere of Bergen; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Richard is the brother of the late Adeline Cecere and William Cecere.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 4, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.  Please join Richard's family for his military honors which will be held in the front parking lot of Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main Street in Batavia, on Tuesday, January 5 at 10:15 a.m.  Richard's funeral mass will be held privately by his family.

LeRoy ~ William R. Klinkbeil, age 92, of West Main Street, was reunited with his loving wife, Rachel, on Christmas Day (Dec. 25, 2020) while at Rochester General Hospital.

    

 He was born November 16, 1928 in LeRoy, a son of the late Michael and Mary Kunzer Klinkbeil.

     William will be remembered as a very kind, compassionate and loving man, who was devoted to his family, his faith and his community.  He was proud to be a graduate of St. Peter's School in LeRoy and was also proud of his service with the U.S. Air Force.  He was a founding member of the Donald Woodward Memorial Golf League and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He and Rachel were also long time members of St. Peter's Church, where they were greeters.  He and Rachel also worked together delivering Meals on Wheels.

       He is survived by his sons, Kevin (Barbara) Klinkbeil of Brighton and Kristopher (Catherine) Klinkbeil of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kristopher Klinkbeil Jr., (Fiancé Stephanie Roland), Sara Klinkbeil, Jennette Drmacich (Istvan Hajdu) and Jessika (Daniel) Drmacich-Flach; great-grandchildren, Sophie Hajdu, William Hajdu and Oona Drmacich-Flach; sisters-in-laws, Ursula Spillane,  Helen Klinkbeil and Annie Klinkbeil, nieces Shannon Spillane (Thomas Welsh)  and Shawn (Joseph) Siconolfi, special cousins Vicki (David) Clark along with many dear friends.

      In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Rachel Drayo Klinkbeil, he was predeceased by his siblings, Clarence Klinkbeil, Julius (Jean) Klinkbeil, Jane (William) Page, Charles (Margaret) Klinkbeil, Edward Klinkbeil, Victor (Nancy) Klinkbeil, Thomas Klinkbeil, Michael (Shirley) Klinkbeil, and nephews, Mickey Spillane and David Klinkbeil

     His Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter's Church. The mass will be live streamed at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 4, 2021 through the parish website: www.ourladyofmercyleroy.org.  He will be laid to rest with Rachel in St. Francis Cemetery.

Samuel R. Oddo, 90 of Batavia, passed away on December 27, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Batavia, on October 19, 1930 to the late Salvatore (Antoniette Irrera) Oddo. He is preceded in death by siblings William, Nicholas and Anthony Oddo, Sara Passamonte, Angeline Oliver and Anna DiStefano.

After High School, Sam worked at Doehler-Jarvis in Batavia. In 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force, he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Warner-Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia and then shipped overseas via the U.S.N.S.C.G Morton to the Philippines for his remaining two years. Sam returned home and worked at Doehler’s for 13 years until he took a job at Hub Manufacturing until 1971. The same year Sam then gambled and started his own business called Elchar Tool and Die, a mold making shop in Batavia. Four years later he started a second business in injection molding plastics called Genesee Precision Plastics. There, they would make parts for Kodak cameras and Smith Corona typewriters and word processors.

Sam’s spare time included being a devout New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan, making wine and gardening. He enjoyed spending time boating and fishing at his condo on Ostego Lake. He was a member of St. Nicholas Club, American Legion and the VFW.

Sam is survived by the love of his life and wife of 63 years Theresa (Martino) Oddo of Batavia; children, Sam (Sharon) Oddo of Batavia; Nancy (Scott) Henry of Darien; Lori (Randy) Dibble of Corfu; Robert (Sandra) Oddo of Churchville; Julie (Kelly) Boyle of Batavia; siblings, Joseph (Frances) Oddo of Batavia; Richard (Donna) Oddo of Batavia; Katherine Turchiarelli of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for the family. He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.

Oakfield - Eudocio Vazquez, 81 of Oakfield, passed away on Thursday, (December 24, 2020) at The Highlands at Brighton Nursing Facility in Rochester.

Mr. Vazquez was born March 20, 1939 in Salinas, Puerto Rico a son of the late Vidal (late Eugenia) Vazquez and the late Conception Rivera.

He was a former member of St. Padre Pio Parish and loved anything outside. Eudocio was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Eudocio is the husband of the late Edna (Osterstuck) Vazquez who passed away on May 7, 2020.

He is survived by his children, Anna (Joseph) Salone of Rochester, Connie (Russell Blumer) King of Batavia, Mary Davis of Batavia, Sarah Kreutz of Byron, Ashley Kreutz of Byron, and Adam Kreutz of Batavia; brothers, William Vazquez of Puerto Rico, Gabriel Vazquez, Miguel (Soraida) Vazquez, and Felipe (Rosalie) Vazquez all of Buffalo; sisters, Mina Vazquez of Puerto Rico, Lucy Garcia of Buffalo, Judith (late Bruce) Coleman of Puerto Rico, Maria (Edwin) Vazquez, Margarita Vazquez, Ana Cajigas, and Crusita Flythe all of Buffalo, and Martina (Ivan) Sanchez of Florida; a sister-in-law, Sharon Vazquez of Texas. 21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Vazquez is preceded in death by a brother, Jose "Cookie" Vazquez; and a sister, Ada Vazquez.

Byron - Jane  L. Ivison, age 63, of Warsaw,  passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw.

Jane was born Monday, November 25, 1957 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Howard R. Ivison and Arlene Rudd Ivison.

 A 1976 graduate from Byron-Bergen High School, Jane retired from the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home in 2009 as their dietary supervisor. A lifetime member of South Byron United Methodist Church, she enjoyed playing Bingo, ceramics and her lottery tickets.

She is survived by her brother; Kenneth (Carole) Ivison of Union City, Pennsylvania; her sister; Karen (late Dave) Fuller of The Villages, Florida; five nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is predeceased by her siblings; Beverly Ivison and William "Bo" Ivison.

Batavia - Edwin W. Schoenthal, 89 of Batavia passed away on Friday, (December 25, 2020) at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia.

Mr. Schoenthal was born June 4, 1931 in Alabama, a son of the late Walter and Mabel (Scharlau) Schoenthal.

Edwin graduated from Medina High School in 1949 and worked for many years at the former Genesee County Farm in Bethany. Upon the farm's closure, he began working as a Drill Press Operator at Batavia Metal Products.  A fireman for nearly 70 years, Mr. Schoenthal joined the Bethany Fire Department in 1951 where he was a life member and past chief; he was a life member and past president of the Stafford Fire Department; and a life member, former board member, and past vice president of the Alabama Fire Department where he worked bingo weekly. He received numerous awards over 7 decades in fire service including the Genesee County Fireman of the Year Award in 1968.  He was a member and past president of the Genesee County Chiefs Association; a past member of both the NYS and WNY Volunteer Firemans Associations.

Surviving along with his wife, Sally (Meisner) Schoenthal whom he married March 3, 1955 are his daughter, Judy Sanders of Batavia; grandchildren, Jeremy, Todd, Andy, Jason, and Jessie; brothers, Alan (Leticia) Schoenthal of Texas, and Lester (Janet) Schoenthal of Ontario; a sister, Gloria Lewis of Maryland. Numerous great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ed is preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ann Long; and a grandson, Eric Fairbanks.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street in Batavia. Edwin's Funeral Service will be held privately for his family, however will be live-streamed via the funeral home's website beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Batavia - Joyce  L. Bassett, 87  of Batavia, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Bassett was born March 23, 1933 in Warsaw, a daughter of the late Lewis Bush and Charlotte Stevens Bush.

She retired from the New York State School for the Blind as the kitchen supervisor and was the former manager at The Batavia Club. Along with her late husband, Robert, they were the original owners and proprietors of The Batavia Party House. She loved being with her family.

Joyce is the wife of the late Robert F. Bassett who passed away on April 11, 2005.

Surviving are her daughter, Stacey (William) Bradley of Batavia; her daughter-in-law, Robin Bassett of Batavia;  five grandchildren; Melissa (Chad) Maniace, Marla Bassett and Justin, Brandon and Ethan Bradley; two great-grandchildren; Brooke and Brielle Maniace along with several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son, Wayne William Bassett, who passed away on February 12, 2019 and her siblings, Gerald, Homer, Wayne, Richard Bush, her twin brother Jack Bush, June Monagan, Phyllis Irwin, Diana Dumbleton and Marilyn Cristie.

There are no prior visiting hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.   She will be laid to rest in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia. A public celebration to honor Joyce will be held during the summer at a time, date and place to be announced. Le Roy, NY - Mary Ann (Coats) Vink, loving wife, mother, Nana, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening (December 23, 2020) at the age of 63 at Le Roy Village Green Nursing Home. She is survived by her husband, Randy; her

children, Nicole (Joel) Cleveland, Jeremy Vink, and Sarah (Craig) Freeman; her grandchildren, Brynn, Edwin, and Clark Cleveland, and Connor Freeman; her mother, Louise; her siblings, Cindy and Bob; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Hugh.
     Mary Ann was born September 8, 1957 in Scio, NY where she graduated from Scio Central School before moving to Rochester, NY. It was while working at Kodak that Mary Ann met her husband, Randy and they married on May 22, 1982. She loved her husband unconditionally and her children and grandchildren wholeheartedly. Mary Ann was witty, silly, an amazing cook, and she was a mother to so many more than just her children. Her kitchen was always open to anyone who was hungry. Those that knew Mary Ann would say her greatest passion in life was her grandchildren, and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them.
     Due to Covid restrictions, there are no plans for a memorial service at this time. 

     In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the LeRoy Food Pantry, 48 Main Street, LeRoy, N.Y. 14482.
