Pavilion ~ Gary W. Muehlig Sr., age 82, of Lake Road, a retired Eastman Kodak worker and part-time employee of R.L. Jeffres & Sons in Wyoming, passed away on Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2022) at the Wyoming County Community Skilled Nursing Home in Warsaw.

     Mr. Muehlig lived in Pavilion and was married for 61 years to the former Carol Ann Roblee.

     He was born in Buffalo on May 6, 1939, a son of the late Louis and Mabel Barker Muehlig.  His birth came two years to the day after the Hindenburg airship disaster in Lakehurst, N.J.

     Surviving with his wife, Carol, is his daughter, Terri Ann Muehlig of Pavilion; his son, Gary W. Muehlig Jr. of Silver Springs; a brother, John E. Muehlig of Lyman, SC; three grandchildren, Michael Muehlig of Pavilion, his “best buddy”, Mindy Bittner of Alexander and Jordan Muehlig of Silver Springs; two great-grandchildren, David and Isabella Bittner of Alexander; sister-in-law, Donna Muehlig, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

     In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Roger Muehlig.

     Mr. Muehlig worked for Stella Brothers Collision in Lime Rock for several years before going to work for Eastman Kodak in Rochester.  He retired from Kodak in 1991 and worked afterwards for George & Swede Sales in Pavilion and R.L. Jeffres Farm operation in Wyoming.

     A former LeRoy resident, he graduated from LeRoy Central School in 1956.  He and Carol Ann Roblee were married June 18, 1960 at the United Methodist Church of Pavilion.

     Mr. Muehlig was a member of the Pavilion Fire Department and the department’s exempts and was president and caretaker of Maplewood Cemetery in Pavilion.  He enjoyed camping, golf, history, toy trains and toys.

     Of his passing, he once remarked, “To any who spoke ill will of me (during life), well your turn will come.”

     “If you read this obituary, I am better off now because I don’t have to put up with the liberals and freeloaders that have ruined the old U.S.A.!”

     There are no prior calling hours and service will be private at the convenience of the family.

   Robert J. Berardini, 87, of Batavia passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday January 27, 2022 at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia. He was born on March 18, 1934 in Batavia to the late Donato and Assunta (Bellucci) Berardini. In addition to his parents, Robert is predeceased by his father and mother in law; Samuel (Rose) Chimeno; brother Donald Berardini; brothers-in-law Henry Chimeno and Jerry Martino; sister-in-law Angeline Berardini

Robert was a graduate of Batavia Trade School and Batavia High School. He was a lifelong resident of Batavia / Genesee County. Robert was a United States Army Veteran and retired from the City of Batavia Water & Sewer Department after 29 years of service. He was a life-time member of St. Anthony’s R.C. Church and currently Ascension Parish and the Holy Name Society. He was active in all the fund raisers for his church, the Mammoth Sale and Genesee Cancer Assistance. Robert was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Batavia Rod & Gun Club. He was a 10 year partner with Town & Country Auctioneers. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and collecting many items. Treasure hunting at auctions and garage sales was his favorite pastime along with working in the yard; more recently he enjoyed spending time at Batavia Downs Gaming.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Suzanne (Chimeno) Berardini; daughters Theresa (Gary) Russell of FL., Rachel (James Ernst) Berardini of Batavia; brother Richard (Josie) Berardini of Webster; sisters Betty Berardini of  AZ, Diana Martino of Batavia; along with many nieces and nephews.

Robert will be sadly missed by his family and many caring friends for his caring, loving manners and his sense of humor.

  Ann S. Guarino, 81, of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born September 6, 1940 in Buffalo, to the late Jack and Anna (Alessi) Carlino Jr.  

Mrs. Guarino worked for many years as a Beautician in Batavia. She was an avid painter. Ann was a caring, loving person that truly made her family and friends the center of her world. She was a gentle soul that was always concerned and cared about everyone and their well-being. Ann will be missed by all and the world is lucky to have had her in it. The Lord has her now and she is home.    

She is survived by her beloved sons, Vincent (Nancy) Guarino of Bergen, Michael (Jenn) Guarino of Batavia, brother, Joseph (Mary Claire) Carlino of Geneva, NY, grandchildren, Nicholas & Joshua Guarino of Webster, Kristen Guarino of Portland, OR and Lilah Guarino of Batavia; niece, Ashley Carlino Freeman of Batavia.

Regina R. Perkowski, 89 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2022. Regina was born on February 12, 1932 in Batavia to the late John (Jack) and Helena (Lippold) Maley. Regina is preceded in death by the love of her life Carl J. Perkowski who passed away in 1999. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her brother Edward Maley, who passed away as an infant, in-laws Ted and Amelia Perkowski, sisters-in-law Dorothy Maley, Frances Okoniewski and Barbara Burris and brothers-in-law Leonard Burris and John (Skip) Okoniewski.

Regina was devoted to both her family and her faith in the Lord. She was a member of Ascension Parish for which she was a Eucharistic Minister, taught church school, and volunteered for church functions such as bingo and the annual lawn fete. She enjoyed her time in Bible study and prayer group.

Regina loved spending time with her family and friends. She and Carl especially enjoyed being at the family cottage on the lake. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, swimming, and live music and dancing. She enjoyed traveling, particularly trips to Saint Anne's in Quebec. Regina lived life to the fullest right up until dementia took away her ability to do so. She could often be seen walking to church or to the YMCA or enjoying the music at Jackson Square.

Regina was known for her kindness to others. She had the ability to see the good in everyone and the positive in every situation. She was like a second mother to the neighborhood kids and friends of her children and grandchildren.

Regina is survived by her daughter Mary Anne Perkowski, son Joseph (Debra) Perkowski, brother Gerald Maley, sister Donna (James) West, grandchildren Nicolle Fortes and Courtney Perkowski, great-grandson Drew Fortes-Crimes and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, where services will immediately follow visitation at 7 pm. Eleanor F. Hill, born January 28, 1925 in Buffalo, N.Y. and grew up in "Little Hollywood", a neighborhood in "The Valley" part of the First Ward. She was the youngest of seven children of Stanley Konwicki & Carolina Sienkewicz. She was the widow of Leroy "Pete" Hill from Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. They met at the local A&P Supermarket. She was the pretty, blue-eyed blonde of Czech and Polish descent working in the produce department when she met her husband-to-be. He was newly discharged from the Army at the close of WW II where he served in the Pacific Theatre. He came to Buffalo to visit an Army buddy. He needed a job, & he was the handsome new hire in the A&P shipping department.

She will be missed by her daughters, Linda [David] Tyczka and Beverly Hill Scinta along with her grandchildren, Arianne [Mike] Dunlap, Adam [Jordan] Tyczka, and Zachary [Sarah} Tyczka, and great-grandchildren Sam, Tessa and Isaac Dunlap; Whitley, Miller, and Bowen Tyczka and the triplets Anders, Ellis and Reed Tyczka.

Eleanor enjoyed day trips and traveling with her husband. She loved wearing bright cheerful colors and always looked beautiful. She loved all genres of music and enjoyed dancing. She was a sun bunny and loved the hot weather. She adored her Siamese cats and never forgot her beloved Dalmation dog Darcy. She was a voracious reader. After her retirement of 24 years from the F& N Burt Box Co, she did volunteer work at the Attica Stevens Memorial Library. She loved solving all types of puzzles including crosswords and word games. She was a fierce competitor when it came to board and card games. It was a well-known reality to everyone in the family that GG, never let anyone slide when it came to winning a game. It just made us love her all the more.

Batavia - Jeffrey A.  Houseknecht Jr., 42 of Batavia passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at home following a brief battle with cancer under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Jeff was born Thursday, April 26th, 1979 in Batavia, a son of Jeffrey A. (Cristie Lamb) Houseknecht Sr.  of Batavia and Cheryl Boryczka Valentine of Batavia. 

The co-owner with his wife Carolyn of the Houseknecht Agency in Batavia, Jeff loved history, cooking and chicken wings. A devoted husband and father, his family and friends meant everything to him. He loved watching Zach play football, basketball and baseball and his “sidekick” Lily’s sense of humor. Jeff was a diehard fan of the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills.

Surviving along with his parents is his wife, Carolyn E. Houseknecht, whom he married on September 30, 2006; his children, Zachery T. Houseknecht and Lillian E. Houseknecht, both at home; his brother, Charles (Cameron Dussault) Houseknecht of Florida; paternal grandparents, Charles (Carol) Houseknecht of Batavia; his father and mother-in-law, Matthew (Elaine) Lane of Webster; brothers-in-law, Daniel Lane of Irondequoit and Steven (Julie Smith) Lane of Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving is Sammy, his 15-year-old Jack Russell Terrier; Jeff's childhood friends who are more like brothers; Jake Pietrzykowski, Matt Buckley, Ryan Collins, Jon D'Amico, Eric Gahagan, Josh Smith, Cameron Leight, Keith Roth and Mike Hurley; friends that he met later in life; Brian Leach and Edward Narrod; his hospice nurse Dawn Moore with whom he shared a mutual love of the New York Yankees. 

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carol (Tom) Boryczka of Batavia.

“Col.” Roger L. Glor, 78 passed away on January 23, 2022 peacefully at The Charlotte House in North Java. He was born to the late Reuben and Freda Glor on May, 25, 1943. He is predeceased by his sisters Reva Glor and Joyce Bockovich, brother Marvin, and daughter Charlene Glor.

Roger is a graduate of Attica High School and Missouri Auction School.

Roger retired from the U.S. Army in 2003 as a SFC. He proudly served active duty, reserves and then became an Army reserve Recruiter, then onto become a recruiter for the Army Nurse Corp. Where he received numerous awards for his accomplishments. He received top recruiter many times. Earning the top award with his recruiter ring.

Roger’s real passion was auctioneering where everyone knew him as the “Colonel”. He auctioned in the area for over 40 years. He ran the Attica Auction Barn on Sundays for many years. He is also retired from the NYS DOCS.

Roger was an active member of the American Legion Harden-O’donell Post 734, Attica Lions Club and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where he loved singing in the choir. Roger loved his cat Montana.

Surviving are his daughter Lee Ann Glor of Attica, sister Janet (Dick) Post of Lexington, MA, stepdaughter Lynn (Bill) Streichen of Strykersville, Montana the cat, and several nieces and nephews.

Dennis L. Groth, 84, of Corfu, New York passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022.  He was born on April 24, 1937 to the late Lyman and Helen (Barnes) Groth.  He is predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Joyce (Skeet) Groth. 
Dennis was a member of the Corfu High School Class of 1955.  He was a member and Trustee of the Cornerstone Church of East Pembroke, and a lifetime member of the East Pembroke Fire Department.  Dennis served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves for 21 years earning the rank of Chief Enginemate. 

After graduating from High School, Dennis was employed at the Genesee Co. Highway Department and Eaton, Yale and Towne in Batavia in the Engineering Department.  In the 1970’s, Dennis joined the family business of L.J. Groth & Sons.  He was also employed at the Pembroke Central School District.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, taking care of his lawn, and spending his winters in Bradenton, FL where he loved to play cards and visit with friends.  Dennis also enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by two children, Gregory Groth and Joan (Matthew) Worth.  A brother Norman Groth and a sister-in-law Marilyn Percey.  Six grandchildren, Meghan (Chanel) Luck, Benjamin (Tammy) Groth, Adam (Rebecca) Worth, Kathryn Worth, Bailey Groth, Camryn Richardson, and four great-grandchildren, Luke and Natalie Worth, Callan Richardson, and Elena Groth, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be no prior calling hours, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Church of East Pembroke, 2583 Main Road, E. Pembroke NY, with burial to follow at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Corfu, NY.  The family respectfully requests that anyone attending the Memorial Service to please wear a mask.

Nicholas L. Van Son, 37 of Imperial Beach, CA, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He was born February 8, 1984 in El Centro, CA to Leticia (Jerry) McGuire of CA and Timothy (Debbie) Van Son of SC.  

Nick, loved California, he loved the weather and animals. His daughter was everything to him.  

He is survived by his daughter, Abrielle Moon Trauscht of Attica, parents, brother, Matthew Van Son of Miami, sister, Heidi (Dave) Compton of Attica; Tanya Trauscht of Attica, along with several nieces and nephews.

Sophie P. Burey, of Darien Center, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, surrounded by her five beloved children. Pinky (Sophie) was born October 19, 1935, in Buffalo, NY to the late Pearl DeSio and John S. Winstel.

Pinky lived a full and active life. Without a doubt, her greatest love was her family. She was the foundation of the family, raising five children and managing a busy household. There are no words to express how special she was to her family. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 64 years, Robert E. Burey. She is survived by her children, Karen R. Prince, Susan L. Coulter, Patti G. Burey, Robert S. Burey and Brett M. Burey; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and her brother and sister, John and Catherine Winstel.

Pinky loved the outdoors. She enjoyed camping and canoeing in the Adirondack Mountains with her husband, Bob, family, and friends. She was also a member of both Honey Hill and Bluemont ski patrols. Her other interests included golfing, bowling, the WNY Gas and Steam Engine Association, the Attica Historical Society, and the Attica Haunted House Association.

Pinky was always thinking of others and will be dearly missed. Services will be private.

June Reigle, age 90, went to be with our Lord on the evening of Wednesday, January 12, 2022.  June was born on May 9, 1931 in Newstead, New York. 

She lived in Batavia most of her life.  She worked at G.T.E. Sylvania for 30 years until she retired.  June liked watching Game Shows, doing Word Search Puzzles, and she used to love going to BINGO.  She also loved animals very much. 

June is survived by her only child, a daughter, Sharon Reigle.  She will be sadly missed by Sharon as well as her kitty, Ricky, and her puppy, Squirt.

Suzanne J. Drachenberg, 82 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Thursday (January 20, 2022) at United Memorial Medical Center.

She was born February 17, 1939 in Elba, a daughter of the late Onofrio Sr. and Rose Marabella Monachino.

Suzanne was employed by the Batavia City School District for several years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed social media, especially Facebook, bowling, cornhole and being outdoors. She carried on the tradition of the matriarch of the family and enjoyed every minute with them. Whether it was big family dinners, get togethers or vacations, she loved her time with her beloved family.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Donald Drachenberg Sr. of Batavia. Sons, Donald (Robert Sharman II) Drachenberg Jr. of Rochester and Daniel Drachenberg of Canandaigua. Daughters, Melissa (Brian Pillo) Drachenberg of Batavia and Kimberly (late Thomas) Butler of Oakfield. Grandchildren, Erica Dibble, Ryan Dibble, David Pillo, Jessica Johnson, Cory Johnson, Scott Manes Jr. and Shannon Butler. Brother, Joseph Monachino Sr. of Missouri. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, Onofrio Monachino Jr., Patsy Monachino Sr., Sam Monachino, Paul Monachino Sr. and Thomas Monachino Sr. Sisters, Philippa Burns, Betty Capadano and Pauline Groulx.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery.

LeRoy ~ Donald B. Hobart, age 70, of Warsaw Road, passed away on January 21, 2022 at home after a long battle with cancer.

     Donald was born on September 7, 1951 in Cortland, New York. He was the son of the late Francis L. Hobart and Dorothy Brown Hobart. Donald was the fourth of six children; older siblings Ronald, Daniel, and Judy, and his younger siblings Charles and Sharon, as well as many other half-siblings. 

    

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Dixie Hobart (née Schoneman), after a loving marriage of 53 years. Other family includes his daughter, Kimberly (Andrew) Carmichael of Homer, his son, Kyle (Jenna) Hobart of LeRoy, and his daughter, Korinne (Michael) Anderson of Batavia; grandchildren, Amanda Yanik (Dan), Amber Hassell (Charlie), Kyle Hobart Jr., Braydon Hobart, Zachary Anderson, Keaton Hobart, Aidan Anderson, Emma Hobart, and Ava Anderson; and great-grandchildren; Halie and Rhett Hassell and Judson, Maxwell, and Saoirse Yanik.

     Donald worked for a number of manufacturing companies in Cortland, New York, always believing that making and producing things out of raw materials created and sustained a strong middle class. He worked for Chris Craft Boats, Agway Fabrication, Brockway Motor Trucks, Pall Trinity Corp., and Grossman’s Lumber, where he became the youngest branch manager at the age of 21. In 1981, Donald was recruited by the Eastman Kodak Company, moving his family to Le Roy, New York, where he would live for the remainder of his life. Through a series of promotions, he became one of three Ombudsmen of Eastman Kodak until his retirement.

     He attended school in Homer and Cortland, going on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Roberts Wesleyan College. Later on, he completed a graduate program in Labor Relations from Cornell University. 

     Upon relocation to Le Roy, Donald and his family became involved in the United Methodist Church, where all three of his children were baptized. He became the President of the Board of Trustees.

     Donald had a passion for education and spent 21 years as a member of the LeRoy Central School Board of Education (15 years as the board president). He was also a longtime president of the Genesee Valley School Boards Association, as well as the National School Boards Association. For his many years of dedication, in 2010 Donald was chosen as the New York State and National School Board Association’s Advocate of the Year. In addition, he was also the proud recipient of the Albert Hawk Award.

     Donald put emphasis on his family life and loved getting together with his family frequently. He and his wife Dixie own Rockland Cottage on Skaneateles Lake, where they have years of memories. Their friends also held great importance to him, especially lifelong friend, Ron Walters.

     A man of many interests, Donald was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, history, literature, the outdoors, hunting, and traveling. He will be remembered for his work ethic, compassion, and ambition.

     Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 25 from 4 ~ 7 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake St. Rd. (Rt. 19), LeRoy. (Facemasks are required to be worn inside at all times)  His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 26 at 11:00 AM at the LeRoy United Methodist Church, 10 Trigon Park.  He will be laid to rest at a later date in Homer, N.Y.

Ruth G. Stinson, 80 of Rochester, formerly of Batavia, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. She was born April 6, 1941 in Okahumpka, FL to the late Henry and Hattie Mae (Thompson) Hatcher. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry Stinson, sons, Otis L. Thomas Jr. and Titus Stinson; brothers, Bernard, Othella and Tommy Hatcher; sisters, Hazel McKinny, Annie Johnson, Lilly Mae Littles, Dorothy Rolle and Rosa Williams.

Mrs. Stinson, retired from Genesee County DSS as a Social Worker. She loved the Lord, her family and was a woman of great faith. Ruth was a Pastor that touched many lives as a counselor, community leader, foster mother and a stronghold for those in need. Mrs. Stinson, deservingly won Fabulous Woman of Genesee County. She will be missed by many and remembered for the tireless help she offered to all.

She is survived by her beloved children, Ocie (Al) Swilley of FL., Tyrone (Mary) Stinson of Buffalo, Kevin Thomas of Rochester, Charlotte Thomas of Gates, Tamar Stinson of Buffalo, Onita Thomas of Gates-Chili, Dexter Stinson of Rochester, Rosa (Abrham) Cotton of Rochester, Regina Stinson of Rochester and Michael Stinson of Rochester, sister, Minnie Lee Rolle of Ft. Pierce, FL; cousins, Claude Brockington, Henrietta Tyndell, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Nancy Marie (Chatt) Jaszko, 83 of Batavia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, (January 12, 2022) at her home with her husband and children at her side.

Mrs. Jaszko was born May 14, 1938 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Washburn) Chatt.

She was a parishioner of St. Padre Pio Parish - St. Cecilia's Church in Oakfield and sold Avon for 35 years. Nancy was a precious little soul who loved life and was loved by everyone who met her. She was a mother to many and a peacemaker for all. Mrs. Jaszko was lovingly known as Nana by all the neighborhood children.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Jaszko of Batavia; daughters, Catherine Jaszko, and Lorie (Scott McAllister) Jaszko both of Batavia; sisters, Susan (Ron) Odessa of Batavia, Shirley Scott of Batavia, and Diane (Chuck) Lee of Lockport; brothers, Michael (Patricia) Chatt of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Andrew (Christine) Chatt of South Dakota. 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by her son, Joseph David Jaszko.

Family and Friends are invited to call on Wednesday (January 26, 2022) from 10 to 12:00 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue in Oakfield. Nancy’s Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Cecilia’s Church, 56 Maple Avenue in Oakfield. Burial will be in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery.
